I think you literally just set a new standard for bike reviews. Instead of the reviewer knowing every geometry number available, just go ride the bike and give an honest impression. Awesome review!
Thanks Dr. J! I’m just trying to keep it as simple as possible and go out in my normal fashion and let everybody know what I think. My thought is that people who search out these reviews will have a good understanding of the geometry of the bike. I don’t want to waste a bunch of time talking about those things because I feel like my experience and my feedback could be more valuable for people. At the end of the day I just hope and what I’m saying resonates with somebody and it helps them make what is a pretty large purchase. I appreciate your comment my man!
Just got my Rascal a month ago. Love it! Ride in SoCal. I think your assessment is spot on about it being able to handle a wide array of terrain. I was a bit leery of the Pike at first but I’ve been really impressed with it so far.
Hi Rich, did you get the chance to try a large? I am also 5’10. Sat on both a large and a medium. Medium felt good, maybe a bit too short. Large felt a bit too big. 5’10 is a tough height. Always between sizes. Thanks!
it must just be personal preference or proportions. i'm also 5'10 and the medium i felt like i was on it, easy to control, technical etc. the large i was IN it. large felt harder to handle but i also have been on a medium bronson since 2017. i'm 70" tall but just measured and my wingspan is only 68"
Just got my Revel Racal. Just have to install my rear brake hose and bleed. Moving to Joplin as soon as our house is finished. Hour away. It’s a large !!
Great review! Never even heard of the brand or seen one in the area I’m in. I’m jealous that you can leave your garage and quickly be to those trails. Those trails are great!
I rode the Rascal in Sedona this year, didn't care for it. It had no small bump sensitivity at 30% sag, the pike ultimate fork felt harsh too. Really wanted to ride this bike and love it, but it ended up as one of the least liked bikes of the 11 that I demoed in Sedona.
Hey Matt! This is the exact reason I’m doing what I am. People can obviously have experiences on the same bike and I am trying to showcase who I am as a rider, what my background is, and what I think of the bike on the terrain I normally ride. I ran this by at about 28% sag and didn’t notice any issues with small bump clients, but I ride pretty hard and generally am comfortable with a bike being somewhat loose. As far as the pike ultimate feeling harsh, I am totally on the other end of the spectrum and I think it is incredibly sensitive in the initial stroke and ramps up very well. Again, this is great in hood for everyone to read and realize that peoples experiences are different on different bikes. Thanks dude!
Richie, Does this Canfield design pedal as efficiently as the DW Link, say on the Pivot Trail 429? I test rode that Trail 429 and it was such an efficient pedaler. Also, any chance you will test an Ibis Ripley? Great reviews and you are an incredible rider! Love Bentonville too!
Thanks Gabby! I can't say it pedaled quite as efficiently as the trail 429, but I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison. It pedaled very well in my opinion and was a very capable bike. I'm hoping to get a large from Revel so I can spend some more time on it in various places around Bentonville. I'd be happy to test a Ripley, I just have to find one to ride first.
Hey Matt. How did the L work out for you? I originally ordered M and changed to L after watching the video. I'm 5'9.75 in my Five Tens. Sucks not being able to ride, or at least sit on demo for size. Hoping I made right choice. Expected deliver for my Rascal is early June.
@@MileHighEric303 L is good for me. Use a 40mm stem and 760 - 770 wide bars. Seat is forward on the rails a bit. So far it’s been great since last September
Great video and amazing skills on the bike. The one aspect from a marketing standpoint is CBF. You didn't seem to mention it at all. Any sense for it being a worthy feature?
Great review! Wish I had a chance to visit your neck of the woods. I'd totally let you put my 2020 Niner RIP 9 RDO, which has very similar geometry to the Rascal when in high mode. Would love to hear how they compare.
Hey there! I wouldn't directly compare them. They both felt VERY tight and snappy, but I think the Revel's use window is a little more skewed on the "bigger" side. The Spur is a LEGIT bike and I think I could ride it pretty much all over Northwest AR. Seems to be the perfect bike for someone who still wants some "XC" capability, but also wants to get a bit rowdy. The Revel seems like it could be pedaled all day and would handle some pretty gnarly stuff. Hope that helps. Don't hesitate to reach out with anymore questions.
Hey Rich. I'm between sizes on the Rascal and not sure which way to go. Are you 5'10 in shoes on good day? Or barefoot? I'm a legit 5'9 barefoot, 5'9.75 in my Five Tens. Thanks!
Hey Eric! I think it depends on what type of riding you're gonna be doing. I'm 5"10 in shoes and it just felt a bit cramped for me. If I was doing mostly XC riding, a longer stem might alleviate that. Tough call man, but don't hesitate to shoot me any other questions .
Awesome review Bud... I have a cannondale habit 3 carbon now. I found a Revel Rascal (Frame) at a LBS (in stock!!!) I'm going to pick up This Monday... I had my reservations about this bike just because the company is so new. I was thinking about the Ibis ripmo. But the look and the reviews are pulling me towards the Rascal (I love the look of the Rascal better) I already have oneup bars, fox 34 grip2, dpx2, sram gx axs, G2 rac brakes. We do go ride bentonville a few times a year and I was wondering it it would handle the OZ trail system... Your review makes my decision a whole lot easier. Thanks and be safe everyone
Hey Taylor! I only had a small amount of time on this Rascal and I’d really need a large to make a better comparison. Both killer bikes for sure! Revel has said they’ll get me a large as soon as one is available
Rich, have you ever ridden an SB 115? I sold my 2019 RM Instinct BC about 6 months ago and thinking of a shorter travel and lighter bike. At age 66 even though i exercise and in much better shape than the average person my age I really didn't need/use the 160/155 along with the weight that the BC had, i can get a 2021 SB 115 T-2 XO build for $6300.00 which is 1500.00 off list, it's used with barely 50 miles on it and its MINT, with the 1500.00 saved i can add some 1400 gram carbon wheels.
In one of your videos I noticed you can reverse crank a flat pedal all the way around with one foot. How do you do that? I have issues with my feet coming off the pedals during jumps.
Hey Nathaniel! Dude, I’m not sure what video you are talking about. I very rarely ever ride with flat pedals. If you are having issues with your feet coming off the petals when you jump, I would say you are not loading in to the face of a jump. You essentially want to load the bike and the suspension and have it open up together as you come off the takeoff.

Wow 2 clicks out at full speed rebound, I have a pike to if do that the bike would be a crazy horse, so if the trail is less rocky more smooth more rebound?
Hey dude! I thought it compared very well. They both had a very similar feel in that they were very tight and snappy. I would be a little reticent to compare them head-to-head because I think that the transition is definitely meant for more lighter trail riding and the Revel is a little bit more capable when it gets chunky. If I was consistently doing a longer lighter duty trail rides, I would go transition all the way. If I was looking to hit some bigger jumps in a bit gnarlier trails, I think I would probably go with the Revel. I hope that makes sense

I have 150 Pike on mine but I started with 140. The difference from 140 to 150 is small. I was surprised how well it rode at 140 since the demo I rode had a 150. Either way it rides great. I just prefer a little more travel in the front.
Seems like several people from various forums are saying they prefer or have put a 150 up front. I wouldn't be surprised if this is Revel's change for the next iteration. It'll make it just a bit capable and still be within the mid travel category.
