    Buying a mountain bike can be a daunting task! SO MANY OPTIONS, but which one do you choose? XC, Downcountry, Trail, Enduro...who the heck knows. Weeding through all the opinions and industry jargon can be quite complicated and that's part of why I made it a mission to provide as much insight as possible to help you in this process.

    The Fezzari Delano Peak is a Trail bike. Well, what does that mean? Here's my definition: A Trail bike is something that can handle a VERY broad use case. Pretty simple really. Here in Bentonville AR we have an abundance of trails and they are quite diverse. From flowing doubletrack that resembles a giant RC car track, to super chunky manmade rock gardens and everything in between. Again, in my opinion, it necessitates a bike that can balance all of those types of terrain AND different rider styles.
    I chose to go with the Comp version of this bike purely on price point. I'm not a person of high financial means and I can appreciate that $3,500 is a ton of money to spend on a bike for most people. My theory was that this bike would handle pretty much everything in my area, only question I had was "how well would it handle it?"
    The simple answer, as you can see in the video, is very well! The entire process with this bike has been rad. I went through the 23 step process and it was very easy. It also gave me confidence that the bike wouldn't need a bunch of tweaks once I got it. I think this is a key component in what Fezzari does for each and every customer. The idea is to get you a bike that is as much "your's" as possible. It was crazy to pull it out of the box, assemble it in 12 minutes, then literally go and ride it. I still haven't made many adjustments to it.
    The Build
    The Comp is pretty well equipped, especially for $3,500. I was very pleased with the performance of the SLX drivetrain. I've yet to see any shifting issues and I've been pretty hard on it.
    The DVO suspension has been legit! I'm a solid 185+ and I ride pretty hard. It provides a very solid platform and has worked well in all situations I've been in. I even blasted a 34 foot gap on this thing and came up way short. I managed to find the bottom of the fork, but the shock still had a bit left in it.
    The OTT (Off The Top) adjuster is pretty darn cool. It allows a rider to dial in their preference for how the fork feels initially. I'm excited to play around with it a bit moving forward.
    The WTB wheels were my main concern with this build and they've been great! The engagement is drastically less than what I'm used to with my I9 wheels, but they'll work for the majority of riders in my opinion.

      Hey there! Something about that Comp build at $3500, I had to check it out. INCREDIBLE value! I've ridden the heck out of that bike, and let quite a few other people demo it, and it's been great. I expected I'd have to change the wheels rather quickly, but they're are still on the bike and straight as an arrow. You're gonna love it.

  • @jmard24
    @jmard24 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Being on dw bikes for the past 3 years, its hard for me to travel outside of my comfort zone. For 3500 this is a great value and dvo isnt low tier. Youll see this suspension on bikes that cost almost twice as much. With that said i would upgrade the shifter to a xt because i like the double upshift. And I would upgrade the wheels with something that has better engagement. That is all I would change on this bike. Good review. I would suggest the warranty process and things of that nature because it is a direct consumer bike. Especially since this will be alot of peoples first high end bike.

    What you explained is one of the reasons I went with the WASATCH PEAK COMP. Yeah its a hardtail, but I figured it would be a good way to earn my way to a full squish bike. The thing is, I've fallen in love with this thing. I didnt know if I even wanted a full squish. I haven't progressed enough to need on yet. I'll get there and it will be another Fezzari for sure. I've only made two changes to my bike. Tires and stem. Thats it. It does what I need it to do. Awesome vid! Keep up the work and good luck on the descents.

      That's awesome Austin! It's certainly a space that's underserved. I'm on somewhat of a mission to reveal more bikes like this to potential buyers. We're in this very interesting space here in Bentonville: So many people are getting into riding because the accessibility is incredible. However, too many people are buying sub $1000 hardtails and having a bad experience. Providing some insight on bikes at this level is critical in my opinion. I'm lucky enough that I don't have to buy bikes at this point, but I couldn't afford $6000 if I had to. Heck, even $3500 is a stretch for most people. I'm just happy that it's resonating with people.

    Nice to get a truly honest review. Especially on a bike that is more appealing, price wise, than many review. I watched a review of this bike on another You tube channel and the guy always reviews the top spec, highest price bike. As for shedding direct to consumer, we have been on Canyons for the past four years. Love them; no problems and great support. ( I am in Tasmania). I always look at the bikes from the smaller brands, especially direct sales, as usually the spec and the service is better than the big brands. I need to check if they will ship to Australia. I am due for a new bike!

    Loving the fact that you didn't ride it once and then give a review as is the trend for many reviewers these days. Its easy to go have fun on one ride and then give something a glowing review. Also, I've had similar experiences recently regarding bikes with slightly longer chain stays and finding them more stable and easier to manual (I can't hold one for 85 days like you, however). Seems like this would be a great rig!

    • @richdrewtherideseries
      @richdrewtherideseries  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! I have a ton of time on this thing in many different types of trail here in NWA and it's legit! It's pretty crazy to think it's a $3500 bike.

      @richdrewtherideseries  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jeff! I'm hoping to get back on a La Sal soon, I didn't have the time to give it a proper ride in Sedona. I think it's gonna depend a lot on the style of trail you are riding. If it's big and chunky, the La Sal might be the better choice. But it's also about how the bike feels to that particular person. There's this strange dynamic sometimes, where numbers don't seem to matter and a person just feels good on the bike. I jumped back on the Levo SL yesterday and it felt pretty awkward at first, I was pining away for that steep seat tube!

Both the Ripley and Rascal share a similar linkage, which I know to be amazing (Ibis with the DW and Revel with the Canfield system). Zero pedal bob, incredibly efficient, really no need to switch the shock away from fully open at any time. Curious how the Delano Peak stacks up in this regard. Here in northern Vermont, typical after work rides include 2000 feet of climbing and plenty of chuck on the way back down.

    Loved the video, you really convey a great review for the avg rider. I do have a couple questions. 1. Do you think the bike could handle a bike park(NC and TN bike parks) say like 6 to 12 visits a year? I mostly ride in mellow terrain but travel to chunkier trails alot like the Pisgah and Dupont forest area. 2. Is the fox 36 and dpx2 better than the DVO sus that the comp comes with? I'm in between deciding on the comp and elite build. Thanks again for the awesome content!

      Hey Justin! Glad you dug the video. I'd have no issue riding the bike parks I've been to on it. These would be Trestle, Snowmass, Big Sky. I've never ridden NC or TN parks, but I think it would be ok as long as you are a decent rider.
      Man, tough to say on the 36 and DPX2. I could assume they are a bit more capable, but I can't say of they are necessary for you. I'd really like to ride the bike with that suspension on it and see how much different it is.

    Great review. I just bought a Delano Peak a few days ago and I've been on it three times. (Fezzari gives a 30 day return it if you don't like it guaranty so I'm considering whether to keep it). So far, I agree with nearly everything you said. It's a playful, fun bike on the descent. I'm a little concerned with the brakes. Don't think they are excellent. I wish I were positioned slightly less forward. But my biggest complaint is in climbing. Maybe I'm just used to my old Specialized Camber but the Delano Peak seemed harder to move uphill. If I were to consider comparable bikes, what trail bikes compete with this one? You mentioned the switchblade. Any others? (especially those that might climb a little easier).

      @@micahmiller4 I’ve been on my Delano peak comp version for a month now and I haven’t had any problems climbing. Granted, I don’t have any rocky or long extended climbs where I ride, but I expected to fight the full squish bob and that hasn’t been an issue at all. I usually run the rear suspension in the middle position between locked and fully open for pretty much everything. Zero regrets. They really dialed in the sizing. I’m between L and XL and opted for an L. Based on my measurements they installed a 50 mm stem. I was sure that I would instantly change out the bars and stem, but the fit is so good that I don’t plan on changing anything. The only thing that took a full ride to get used to where the brakes. I prob should have gone with shimano since their instant lock is more what I’m used to. After 2 rides, I got used to the modulation of the sram brakes. No plans to switch them out. I want to tweak the settings on the rear shock a bit, bc I’d like it to be a bit more stiff when I get silly out there. 👍👍

    Would love to get your opinion on shorter travel bikes too, I'm waiting on my YT Izzo that is 130mm/130mm which I'm super excited about. Also has the option for longer fork shafts up to 150mm on the fork, but not looking to do that unless I really see a reason to do it, for now keeping the fork at 130mm I think is fine. I really think these short travel 29er bikes really are what 90% of MTBers really need to look at. I think the TH-cam sensationalism of Enduro bikes has influenced people to go straight to something that is 'over biked' for their riding.

    • @richdrewtherideseries
      @richdrewtherideseries  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, you're one of a few that have mentioned the Izzo. Send YT a message and let them know you'd like to see me ride it. I'm totally down to give my opinion on it, I just don't have any connections with them whatsoever.
      I generally am a huge fan of bikes in that realm. My BMX background allows me to stretch the realm of what that travel can do. I won't necessarily disagree with you that 90% of riders would do well with that genre of bike. Just seems everyone wan't something big to "SEND IT" on!

    • @Hardcaslte
      @Hardcaslte 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richdrewtherideseries I think the YT Izzo was launched right at the beginning of all the lock downs unfortunately, there's almost no coverage on it online and the ones that did get a video of the bike all seem to be during lock down and can't ride it. You can find Jeffsy reviews and videos all day long. I wish I was good enough to contact someone there, what the heck maybe I'll send them an email and see.
      I'm definitely one of the people that was on that sort of Jeffsey 150mm/150mm 29'er wagon until I really started watching more and more videos and reviews on "Trail Bikes". Bike Radar's entire Trail Bike of the Year category is now all 130mm bikes which helped tilt me towards shorter travel; especially because I'm in Florida so it's not like I'm bombing any rock gardens at 25mph any time soon.
      It's really difficult for people like me with extremely limited full suspension bike experience, coming from only having a hard tail. You watch the reviews of these All Mountain/Mini Enduro bikes and they always say "It pedals great". But what does that even mean? "It pedals great for an Enduro bike" doesn't really tell you how it pedals compared to a short travel bike.

Now, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be suited for you or where you are riding. I love the Delano because it's a bike I can do a BIG XC/Trail type ride on and still blast some big jumps.
