BATTERY DRAIN TEST | 2020 M1 MacBook Air vs. 2020 M1 13-Inch MacBook Pro

  • It's that time again... time for a Battery Drain Test only this time, putting up the 2 M1 MacBooks up against each other and also to compare in real-time, I also included a prior Intel MacBook Air.
    ALL Settings were identical, Tru-Tone disabled, all connected to the same wi fi network, all had the sleep timer set to never and each macbook was set to 85% brightness.
    Were you surprised with the results?
    Each machine was put through a variety of tasks that were meant to drain the battery more rapidly than normal. Ofc, not everyone is gonna do benchmarking, netflix, video exports & gaming all in one session, but it goes to show just how powerful the M1 chips really are. Give me your thoughts down below!

    Unplugged my M1 MBP at around 12:00PM today and after a full day of working on updating my resume, opening up a few PowerPoints, having Webull and ThinkorSwim open, and now lastly ending the night with a few TH-cam consumption; I'm now here sitting at 74% at 12:44AM. Yeah...the M1 MBP's battery life is no joke. I love it.

Bought it brand new 3 years ago. 96% battery health 3 years later and the battery still holds a charge like it did when I first got it. I use every day and I charge it about once a week (I use it less during the week as I'm working through the week but I use it tons during the weekend). Money well spent. I really liked and enjoyed this video! I 100% appreciate the honesty between ALL devices, and not just promoting one based on personal opinions. I have been told plenty of times through these tech vids, that the Macbook Air, is for average/basic use, and/or somewhat mild usage, compared to the pro which is for heavy duty. I am currently about to invest in a 2020 Macbook Air, based on my needs. I am currently, (sadly, lol) using a google chromebook; who knows what year it is tbh. I need/want the macbook for school purposes; 1, because apple pretty much has every app that play store doesn't have, and 2, I am a music major and want to use Logic Pro etc, but not heavily, just for basic experience until I need it enough to upgrade to a Macbook Pro. (Also because with the educational discount, the Macbook air is within my budget.) Thank you for this video!

    When deciding between these two (Air and Pro M1) I’m also considering longevity. I will keep whichever one that I buy for a few years before upgrading again and wonder if it’s a good idea to get the pro because of it being better, perhaps, for the sustained life of the cpu over the course of a few years.

The laptop is legit amazing. Never gave me any problems and the battery life is incredible still. Still holds a charge like it did when I first bought it. I charge it maybe once a week and I use it every day/every night. Use it less during the week as I work but I use it tons on the weekend. Truly is an awesome laptop and even 3 years later, works like a charm and the battery lasts for a long time still. Honestly, it was money well spent. It is a great laptop if you have the money to buy one.

    Screen brightness at 100%, backlit keys off. A bunch of web-surfing, downloading through a vpn, youtube, video watching through VLC and a small amount of wii/gamecube emulation.
    5 1/2 hours.
    Next time I test again, I'm going to lower my screen brightness to see how much of a difference it really makes. I love having my brightness jacked all the way up...this screen is such a HUGE improvement over my last computer...it's crazy!

    Now that the 14 inch Macbook Pro is out, help me decide between the 13 Pro and 14 Pro when it comes to battery life. I don't do any heavy stuff such as editing photos, videos or gaming. I will be using it only for web browsing, youtube and movies. The better display and more power of 14 inch don't matter to me, 13 Pro's display is already great to begin with. I'm leaning towards 13 Pro because it is slimmer, but at the same time the thicker 14 Pro has larger battery. So yeah please do a video comparison between them.

  • @TCPUDPATM
    @TCPUDPATM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Couple of things - the extra GPU core in the pro means it’s performing at a higher level, and using more juice. The higher fps isn’t free.
    Same might be true for the display, which is brighter on the pro. So the pro should probably be set at ~70% brightness.
    It’s impressive that the pro had a nice gap despite using more power!

    • @loughrey101
      @loughrey101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not, it wouldn't be using that extra core in any of those tests.it doesn't use the extra core if it's not needed and most of those tests were not graphic intensive
