I really enjoyed this. I'm a local dresser; the touring shows come to my town and I'm hired for the run of a show to do all the dressing responsibilities described in the video. Local dressers only get an hour and a half advance notice of what they need to do during the show. We don't get to practice our track - even the quick changes. We really count on the actors to walk us through the changes. My daughter, who was a dresser for My Fair Lady with me last year, watched a moment of this video over my shoulder and commented about how much space and light they have compared to what we work with. It is a challenging job, but it is the most fun I've ever had!

I appreciated how this video showed the intense jobs of dressers on broadway. About how it's very important to have a relationship with the actor, and it's very impressive how the quick changes are done in such a short amount of time. This shows all the different aspects and details of being a dresser, how you need to be prepared if something rips or comes off. I love how they mentioned about how what the character is wearing is a big aspect, it essentially brings the character to life.

I love the focus on relationships between the dressers and actors. It's so sweet and important to have that kind of bond with someone you work with so closely, even in totally different aspects of theatre.

11-13 seconds for a quick change! That is so fast! So, Dressers are like the PIT STOP CREW of Actors.

@@margotbunny6780You are right! I think they do that job full time and they had years and years of practice. I think it all comes down to how organized and efficient the Dresser is. God bless!

@@moonlitdaisies3928 Yup. Same here, I once had to get a girl into a full French Revolution gown and wig in twenty seconds flat, the year before get a girl from a dress to tomboy jeans, leather jacket, and sneakers, stuff her hair in a hat (she had a LOT of hair) and smudge enough greasepaint on her face to look like a beard in around twenty again. Whew those were fun though lol

I like the emphasis on what the actor is wearing makes the character and helps them come to life. The fact that the costume is looked at as regular clothes that the actor had to be comfortable in is important. I also really appreciate how organized everything is and how hard everyone works.

I was amazed in how many people it takes just to dress the actors, theres so many. Also the modifications they do to the clothes in order to do quick changes is very smart. Never knew that all sectors of theatre required a large amount of attention and organization.

Watching this video took me back to my theatre days as the head of the hair , wig and make up Department in Toronto..
Miss working in theatre. I now work in film where my skills are in great demand. The hardest part of working in theatre is missing out on children’s extra curricular activities and not having weekends to spend with family as you only get Sunday evenings and mondays off.great video, thanks for sharing, and thank you for your passion and hard work.👏👏👏👏🙏🏻❤️❤️

It's so amazing to see how much goes into a costume outside of its design. Dressers really do keep the show from feeling like a play and turn it into an experience, into reality. I'm always impressed by how well they keep their cool.

I really enjoyed this video! I'm a college student majoring in theatre and although, my main concentration is performance, I really do enjoy costumes! A couple months ago I was given the opportunity to be the dresser for my school's production of Sideshow and I loved it. I was assigned to two lead roles and one featured role and although I was up and moving quite a bit, I loved the thrill of helping them with their quick changes and such. Something that I found very intriguing while watching this video was when it was said that "the dresser and actor should form a trust and common liking of each other". This comment sparked my attention because I really do believe in that. I feel that being apart of a show can be very stressful at times for all the people that are involved with it so the last thing you need is to feel bad vibes with the person you are with for basically the whole show.

Is there any classes or courses that expand upon this job? I am in love with this, but I have little experience about fabrics and such, but I would love learn anything anyone would want to teach me. Please, I would pay for it if I can.
Also, there are very few things that make my heart soar, than seeing an actor or actress in full costume in the special world of backstage.

Dressers are the unsung heroes of broadway. Sometimes I think they must work even harder than the actors because they have to be there before the actors arrive to check that the costumes are ready and they have to be here after the actors leave to check if a stitch or button came lose during the show.

Dressers are so important. I mean they are basically the only people you really interact with while being yourself and not the character you play for most of the show. Sure you have your cast but dressers support you in every way and only make your performance better.
