The Cats stage costumes look SO much better than the godawful CGI monstrosities from the 2019 film version! 🙀
Back in the 90s, there was supposed to be a fully animated movie but it got scrapped. What a big fat missed opportunity!

I absolutely love how the stage costumes incorporate human pieces, like Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer having a tank top and stockings with a garter belt in their fur patterns. It’s a great way to blur the line between human and animal

I love the extra detail of Boleyn and Howard, the beheaded wives, wearing chokers as part of their costumes, to stop their heads from falling off.
Seymour and Parr both wear hoop earrings because, at the time of Jane's death and then Henry's death, they had stayed married to Henry

Also, Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves both wear spiked headbands, to represent the spikes of divorce. Both were also royalty in their own right before marrying Henry, so the headpiece also resembles a crown.

1. Mary of Scots's _en deuil blanc_ (white mourning) portrait by François Clouet (or his studio) looked oddly prophetic, with her head emphasized due to her attire
(her mourning was due to close family members' successively dying within a short period: her father-in-law Henri II king of France, her mother Marie de Guise regent of Scotland, & her husband François II king of France)
2. Marie Antoinette, when she was still Maria-Antonia archduchess of Austria, has 2 portraits with chokers on her neck, also very prophetic
I know Anastasia the musical isn’t considered “classic” or “iconic” (to me it totally is!) but I totally wanna shoutout to those costumes!! They tried their own thing while also giving a nod to the animated film & they are GORGEOUSSSS!!

I can name all _32_ colors on Joseph’s coat. Red, yellow, green, brown, scarlet, black, ochre, peach, ruby, olive, violet, fawn, lilac, gold, chocolate, mauve, cream, crimson, silver, rose, azure, lemon, russet, gray, purple, white, pink, orange and blue.

I always get so mesmerised by the costumes on stage. The designers are seriously so talented. I took my son to see Frozen and he was so mesmerised by Elsa’s signature blue gown. The smile followed after as he clutched his dolls said everything…
I was surprised that Christine’s white dress wasn’t on this list because that’s extremely iconic but I’m very happy that the Phantom was number one!
I thought it would be a shared Phantom/Christine entry.

When you see those outfits you know right away what they are from. A t-shirt and jeans over that? Not hardly.
Phantom is my favorite musical, but my favorite costume is the Phantom's Red Death outfit.
My Uncle's a huge fan of the show since he was in high school. He actually made his own Red Death costume...

Im sorry. How is a cast and blue shirt at 5 while Lion King is at 7?! I call bull. Also, the Drag Queens in Kinky Boots' finale should be on this list.
I think it would be better if those two were switched (Evan's polo in 8-7 an Lion King's in 5-4).
And the Book of Mormon getting an honourable mention when it's literally what Mormon missionaries wear. So many better choices than Dear Evan Hanson and Book of Mormon (great musicals, but the costumes are meh in comparison to other musicals out there).

I'm so glad that Glinda's bubble dress made the list. I've seen the show so many times and every single time, I joke about stealing the gorgeous blue gown. Someday, I'm gonna see that dress up close. :D
Try to get pictures of the Dior Junon dress( or to see it when is exhibid ). I think they got inspired by that collection
I saw the show on tour with Kate Rockwell as Glinda and I thought she was amazing!
Beauty and the Beast should be number 2 because the enchanted objects made way for things like The Lion King
To me, it has to be Elsa's Ice Dress, Elphaba's black dress, The Lion King's costumes, and the broadway production of Cats. (I saw three of them up close.
Munkustrap, Cassandra, and Demeter did some audience participation with me) Also, Bernadette Peters' Costume in Into The Woods.
I would’ve been outraged if Dolly’s Harmonia Gardens dress weren’t included. Good job!
Ones I would add:
Charlie’s Finale outfit from Kinky Boots (designed by Gregg Barnes, Thomas Charles LeGalley, and Rachel Attridge)
Anya’s various dresses from Anastasia (designed by Linda Cho, Ricky Lurie, and Brynn Almli) - I mean look at them!
Kinda disappointed with how low the Lion King costumes are on the list but they definitely deserved to be on that list. I was lucky enough to see The Lion King when it came to Dallas a few years ago. My family and I were blown away by the costumes
Iconic would totally include Mame’s lame monkey fur coat, the balcony dress from Evita and I’m shocked that the gold Chorus Line finale costumes didn’t even get an honorable mention.
I was waiting for Evita's dress. How can a t-shirt and jeans be more iconic than Evita's white gown?
One of my bucket list is to attend a show on Broadway. But living in Alberta Canada and on long term disability, not sure I’ll get there.

You’ll make it! I haven’t celebrated my birthday for years so for next year, I’m going to finally see a show on Broadway. My sister said to just buy the ticket and don’t think about it. Once I have the ticket, just make the plans to go. This is her method of traveling and going to concerts and it’s worked for her so far. Just get the ticket and go from there. we can do it!

I was lucky enough that in high school I did theater and we did a 5 day trip to nyc and we saw Kiss Me Kate, Aida (obc!), Music Man (with Eric McCormack) and Lion King. I love it and I dream to go back
My favorite costumes we’re from “Wicked”. Also do a Top 10 Musicals Turned Into Movies and Top 10 Movies Turned Into Musicals
The dresses from Anastasia and the boots from Kinky Boots need to be on this list!!
Not even an honorable mention for Once on This Island??? The costumes are ICONIC, and the fact that a good portion of some of them are made from recycled materials makes it even better!

I think Patrick Bateman in American Psycho had a better look than those boring Mormon ones, Eva Perron had some awesome looks (the balcony scene comes to mind), Sweeny Todd as well, also King Arthur in Spamalot.
Nothing for Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella? The way her dress transforms is so gorgeous! And zero mention of Grease? The Pink Ladies and the T-Birds are iconic costumes!

Beetlejuice should not have been in the opening, or at least used where Mean Girls was so it would catch the voice over explaining why.

Where is Kinky Boots? I don't get what they said about the Schuyler sisters' dresses. Having a group in contrasting colors is a cliché, and I see no connection between particular colors and these characters.
I thought the same thing. If I saw one of those dresses off somewhere I wouldn't know where it came from; it could have been from 1776 or some other historical show. Not iconic at all but Ms Mojo always has to stick Hamilton in everywhere they can. The A Chorus Line outfits or Evita's white gown are much more iconic and you know when seeing it where it came from.

My family and I cannot describe seeing the lion king. ☹️ we have seen quite a number of stage shows and this is the only one non of us recall watching as non of us enjoyed it. We kept looking at one another, wondering if we should leave and do something else whilst in the city! Sad but true. Maybe Australia 🇦🇺 wasn’t given the stage show that year?
