Captured in performance at the 2016 Heifetz International Music Institute "Festival of Concerts" at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, VA.

Wow what an absolutely gorgeous sound he elicits from that instrument......!
Can't agree more. From the very first note to the end was magical. One of those few violists with a really special sound. Can't help but think it's because it's bigger?
It's definitely on par with one of the most melancholic melodies to his 2nd piano concerto
Immaculate bow control especially at the end.. just wow. One day, I'll play like this.. Crying. 4:33 This triplet phrasing is miraculously tight and grouped in such a logically sound way,literally like an aria if you close your eyes. ELATED this guy actually turned to da gamba now.
Literally what I was telling myself as i watched this.. So inspired. I want to play like this :((

딱 시작하는데 놀람
눈감고 들으면 첼로입니다.
Sensibilité. Et technique irréprochable. Coordination parfaite entre les 2 instruments. On en redemande.
This music was made more for the viola than the cello. The viola has so much more expression than the cello.
I think parts of it work even better on double bass, at least as played by Mikyung Sung on her album The Colburn Sessions. I do agree that exceptional performances on either instrument can best many of the ordinary performances on cello! (Cello might seem like it has the best features of both instruments, but sometimes it seems more like the worst of both!)
