Of all the 1Ups this is what I'd get... lmao before the pandemic my big homie and I smashed through X-Men on the big machine at the Barcade, hella old school style, quarters down and our significant others keeping the drinks coming. Quality.

I say run this on a raspberry pie with mame and a couple of tank sticks for four players or three for 5 or six players which the game could play with I think.Microcenter has do it your self arcade build it your self parts where you can build your own arcade cabinet cheaper than an arcade one up replica that is a piece of junk.Arcade one up machines all of them run on raspberry pi or a cheap arm processor or an arduino.They emulate and they run like garbage and are built like garbage.
Put that Spiderman beatemup or the punisher one they already did with the marvel superheroes one and we could talk but....that's alot of moolah.

My experience with Arcade 1up has been:
1) See announcement for a cab that I grew up playing
2) Get excited about being able to finally own an arcade cabinet that I’ve dreamt about owning for years.
3) Preorder as soon as they go up
4) Release date finally arrives, and I excitedly put the cabinet together
5) Boot up the game, and realize almost immediately that once you get past the initial rush of nostalgia, the game is definitely a product of its time, it hasn’t aged all that well, and half the fun was the ever-present danger of running out of coins before you finished the game
6) The cabinet basically just becomes a cool decoration after the initial playthrough, really only getting turned on when I have guests, or I want a quick nostalgia fix
7) Lose interest in Arcade 1up and their announcements for months,
8) Eventually find out accidentally that they’re releasing some other game that I grew up playing.
9) Repeat back to step 1
I only own the MK and big blue SF 2 cabinets. I still play them because those games have replay value. I hesitate to buy something like the Simpsons because beat ‘em ups lose their appeal quick.
I have that exact same experience. I have 5 cabinets now. Hardly play any of them. When we have parties people play them and they keep their kids busy. So I guess their good for that.
I agree with your experience. It is for those reasons I'm happy to stick with mame on my raspberry pi. I don't spent hundreds of dollars, I still get the arcade games I want for free and a good number more, and I can play other games too. 🙂
@troll-man marvel super heroes, golden tee, asteroids, big buck world, ridge racer, T2 a full size silver strike and a modified nfl blitz with a raspberry pi. Should’ve bought out the asteroids and final fight when they were on sale for $150 2 years ago at Walmart. I bought a few since the last post and made room.

He definitely sounds like he just realized he wasted his money all the 1up cabs are a waste of money. You play for a day or two and probably never turn them on unless you are trying to impress your friends but they won’t be that impressed since they are so small.

This is what I was worried about. These arcade1ups are cool, but how they are “limited” releases creates a situation where you’re paying only for the privilege to own it. Rush and get it before they all sell out like the original TMNT unit, and disregard the overall quality.
Yeah these guys are reversing the retro-approach; instead of stuff becoming rare and valuable that's where they wanna kick it off at-- won't work for long, competition and cheaper self-made alternatives will come if they stay succesful.
You can usually buy them later in the year at clearance prices.

@@MegaFinalRound depends on the model, they are bad at gauging demand. Some like NBA Jam are oversupplied but others like Star Wars are totally undersupplied.

1up arcades are toys, they're not real arcades. The whole purpose of having them was because of their price and charging $700 doesn't make any sense. I'd rather pay a little more for a real cabinet and put a raspberry pi in it than paying $700 on a mini arcade.

Definitely not worth it for the price, size and the little amount it would be played. I love this game, but it is fine as just a memory to me at this point.
Arcade 1ups are Dumbed down versions of originals at a stupid price might as well get a custom arcade with every game in it plus actual high quality parts and decent size monitors!

@@laloliz047 That's what i did, i had Recroom Masters craft me a custom Streets of Rage legacy cabinet, it's gorgeous, it's top of the line EVERYTHING. No washed out marquee, over 6k games on a retro pi, could upgrade to a PC build any time i want. Posted a video of it a few months back.
I basically ended up converting a room into a arcade atmosphere. I wouldn't mind having some A1up cabs in here to fill out the space with cabs but yeah. . . i won't play them. So $700 for a piece of pretty furniture/conversation piece is... not a good idea lol.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and I saw the Ninja Turtle 1Up machine for $700! Could have sworn it was cheaper before
Yep, the prices have all been raised. I believe when it was first released it sold for $450. I am not sure if there are differences between the original release and this one (I think the original didn’t have the light up marquee?), but it doesn’t seem to justify that big of a price hike.
I got it for $200 on sale but got bored and sold it later on, wish I had kept that one. Great looking cabinet.

When I was a kid this X-Men game was hands down my favorite. I would go to the arcade only to play this machine. Years later I saw that you could actually buy for your home. I told myself as soon as I could afford one I would buy one. Years later I started looking but just couldn’t afford one and it was devastating. I found one for $800 that was in great condition but it was on the other side of the country. When I saw the Mortal Kombat Arcade1up for the first time I was hoping they would end up doing this one and the Simpsons. When I saw they were going to be selling them earlier this year I was so damn excited. I have absolutely no more room in my arcade but redesigned the entire thing so I could make room for these to machine. I checked the site several times a month so I could jump on the preorders soon as they were available. Once it finally came I was devastated for the second time when I saw the price. There is no way I can pay that kind of money for one of these cheaply made machines. I can build my own better and cheaper. So disappointed in Arcade1up.
There was an X-Men arcade in kit form or prebuilt on ebay the monster 6 player one with a modern flat display and many games on it. If you have room then go for it. It's a brand new product not used. But you will pay over a thousand for it.
They got the 6 player at the smaller Pinballz in Austin, TX. It was for sale I think but it was yrs ago.
I'm excited to see how the Simpsons cabinet is! One of my favorite arcade games, I used to play it all the time when I was a kid.
I've had my fill of these machines. The prices have gone up too far and now I'm going the mod route with what I have.
Fun Fact: This X-Men game was based from a pilot episode for the 90's X-Men with is very different of the final product and most of the people never watched, that's why the design, characters and colors of uniform are different.

I'm a huge retro gaming fan, and also an indie developer. So when a publisher puts out a classic game I'm already enjoying in ROM form on my Retropie, I make a point of buying it, to both show interest in more releases, and to "play fair" and compensate the people keeping the classics alive.
But $700 is just too much. I understand that materials have gone up in price, but I'm happy to wait it out.
I’m sure we can blame Marvel/Disney licensing.
The appeal of Arcade 1ups is that they're comparably cheap...when you get up into $700, you're at the point where you can build a mame cabinet.

No. These type of arcade games get really boring really fast. Not worth $700.
It's kind of lame that it doesn't have a 21:9 panel to mimic the way the original cabinet had a CRT with a mirror next to it with another monitor in the bottom to make an ultrawide display.
my favorite machine as a kid....probably put in enough quarters to pay for this bad boy.

I got Simpsons for $499 from Walmart and that's all their worth. $750 is totally unjustified and a ripoff in my opinion because of the issues you discussed. Squeaky, crap buttons unacceptable at this price point. Maybe they should focus on quality instead of volume.

My biggest complaint with the entire Arcade1up line is the overall width of the cabinets, especially when it comes to 4 player titles. If they made these as wide as a standard arcade game, I would be behind them 100%.
$700 is quite expensive. It looks nice and the retro coin slots are cool however, that doesn’t really justify $200 in a price hike. Not many arcades are open so it’s not like it’ll ever be profitable like the old days.

The problem with the prices now is cause they are combos. Which comes with a stand extender and a stool. So I still wish there was a option for 200$ less

I always want to have an X-Men cabinet when I was a junior in high school. Right now, I'll try to come up with a monthly payment to get Arcade1UP X-Men cabinet.
I think at this point they should let you do a build your own option. Where you select the lay out, artwork, and games that come with it.
Uhm.. they stole that cheap concept and ran with it-- please don't turn it around. Homemade MAME cabs were a thing looong before they tried to cash in on the niche.
That would go against their business model.
I would think they're limited on the different artwork but the rest should be feasible. Select 4 games to be programmed, and receive 4 corresponding plates that you can attach to the front of the machine.

Honestly, for that price point, this cab should come with EVERY game that Arcade1up could feasibly do (meaning due to licensing and rights). But if that means 20 games that most people have never heard of, for $700 they should be giving you EVERYTHING they can.
I got The Simpsons one. I wish the coin doors opened. That way you could store a few things in the cabinet since it's basically just empty space in there. I also wish the coin buttons pushed in and lit up. Especially at the $700 price range. I will probably do mods for it eventually. Also, I hate these without the stands, they look weird being so small without them.

Totally . That’s not what it’s made for though . Arcades by and large are for kids . It’s more for you and 3 kids and or you and 1 friend . Factor in the online capabilities and you can still play more .
Yes I usually just play with one other person on my 4 player 1ups. They are perfect for just that. Or you and a couple of ladies
I'd dig the coin doors if it would make the cabinet operate more like an actual coin-op machine (even if optional) so you could also use it like an interactive piggy bank.
I'd like the doors to have slits in them as well as the kick plate to stick coins in for fake and have them drop into a cardboard box or something in the hollow area inside the cabinet. I have the new redesigned TMNT and The Simpsons. I got them on sale, so I didn't pay $700 each for them. More like $500 or so.
The arcade where I used to play X-Men was a bit small so you used to hear that game all the way down the hallway. Some sound effects and people dying were really loud.

Yeah, I always check if someone's having a sale. With that being said, the artwork is certainly one of its top selling points.
Just release all these great arcade games onto consoles. They're worth $10, not $300-$700. Asking that is just insane.

I would guess the increase in price is like most other things with attachment rates or build options. The $200 price increase is probably costs the manufacturer less than $50 to make. If they can put $50 worth of options in there and mark it up another $200 it is alot more lucrative for them. I agree though, the higher price point really puts the machines in a premium tier. I would think they are almost pricing themselves out of a lot of peoples budgets
It's on sale for $589 at Game Stop. $749 everywhere else, and ebay is a rip off for X-Men. One seller is selling one for over a thousand.

The price killed this deal for me. None of these products are worth more than $550. NONE OF THEM. Not even the T2 cab. Same crappy buttons and controls. Same 17 inch screen. Wifi isn't necessary for an arcade and should BE AN OPTION. Sell the stools separately. Fake coin doors? REALLY? At those prices, the coin slots should be fully functional. Good luck finding others on the leader boards besides the TH-camrs who review these things.
Love the shoutout to the Milford Amusement Center. Spent a lot of quarters there over the years growing up in between games of Q-Zar. They got the fun indeed.

Dude it's a 700 dollar mini arcade machine not a 5k machine. It's decent for what it is.
All three games are really solid. The Captain America and the Avengers game had smaller sprites but the story and environments were pretty good. X-Men is the premier multiplayer super hero adventure. I think the price is worth it for an X-Men fan and the X-Men is such a HUGE franchise.

The Sprite size in Captain America is because later in the game you meet crazy bosses. Play through the game. I remember this game having a crazy final boss battle.
It sounds exactly like it did back in the 90's. The sound effects were always louder than the rest of the audio. Obviously it costs more because of licensing reasons.
I personally think the audio was always this low def and back in the day we had the arcade noise pollution to contend with. We'd need someone to compare with the OG cabinet to be sure since emulation of this game has traditionally butchered the sound.
The license cost a lot. Even John D. confirmed that. So most of the money goes in to the license everything else will suffer in quality, controls etc. In order to keep the price down they have cut some where in the product.

Looks like they went with the SNES version of the Avengers game on there. The original arcade game had huge, detailed sprites. This is certainly a weird choice for a 1up cabinet...

I owned the original arcade board for years and I can attest to the fact that's the real arcade version, not the Snes.
it gets to the point where it becomes an obsession collecting these games but probably spend little time actually playing them.
People are better off selecting one of the machines that are 399 or 499 then moding it.

Thanks for this video. I played the snot out of this game as a kid in the arcades. But I just can't justify this price for a fancy emulation box, especially if it has audio issues. The only reason I keep my X-Box 360 plugged in is because I have X-Men Arcade on it. I guess I'll just stick with that...
Arcade 1up also has cheaper countercades that are getting popular. The higher price of the newer arcades might be for collectors only. I might have interest in a countercade someday.

I'm not surprised at what is happening with the Arcade 1Up machines. These machines are supposed to be an affordable arcade experience, however, since they are becoming soo popular, the price will just keep going up.

is crazy cause a cutting edge tech from an XBOX S1 & a PS5 are below that price range, but people are paying $600-$700 dollars for 4 pieces of cardboard & a cheap m.board for it! Crazy!! This company want people's money for sure!
Klaw was the white guy with the accent in the Avengers 2 movie who said the line to Ultron who said, "You sound like Tony Stark" and proceeds to shoot his arm off. That arm is later replaced by a hook or fake arm. He was also in Black Panther with the gun arm.

I have the street fighter one. Don’t think they are worth the price so I wait until Walmart puts them on clearance and get them for $100 or less. NBA Jam was just $100 a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing, I’m a bit on the opposite, I would have preferred Captain America and the Avengers being the main artwork for the machine. However the cost and issues make me hesitant to buy much arcade1ups, I was debating on Tron, but until I see reviews and hopefully some deals I’ll hold off.

Only machines with Sanwa buttons are worth it. The sole reason I bought into the MS Special Edition from their store was because it was ONLY $400!! The buttons and components on these standard machines are absolutely trash.

I bought the machine for Captain America and the Avengers. Cap’s awesome. You should check out the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier or read Ed Brubaker’s run in the comics. You’ll dig it.
