Fun Fact: This X-Men game was based from a pilot episode for the 90's X-Men with is very different of the final product and most of the people never watched, that's why the design, characters and colors of uniform are different.
Definitely not worth it for the price, size and the little amount it would be played. I love this game, but it is fine as just a memory to me at this point.
Arcade 1ups are Dumbed down versions of originals at a stupid price might as well get a custom arcade with every game in it plus actual high quality parts and decent size monitors!
@@PickelRick007 That's what i did, i had Recroom Masters craft me a custom Streets of Rage legacy cabinet, it's gorgeous, it's top of the line EVERYTHING. No washed out marquee, over 6k games on a retro pi, could upgrade to a PC build any time i want. Posted a video of it a few months back. I basically ended up converting a room into a arcade atmosphere. I wouldn't mind having some A1up cabs in here to fill out the space with cabs but yeah. . . i won't play them. So $700 for a piece of pretty furniture/conversation piece is... not a good idea lol.

This is what I was worried about. These arcade1ups are cool, but how they are “limited” releases creates a situation where you’re paying only for the privilege to own it. Rush and get it before they all sell out like the original TMNT unit, and disregard the overall quality.

1up arcades are toys, they're not real arcades. The whole purpose of having them was because of their price and charging $700 doesn't make any sense. I'd rather pay a little more for a real cabinet and put a raspberry pi in it than paying $700 on a mini arcade.
Yep, the prices have all been raised. I believe when it was first released it sold for $450. I am not sure if there are differences between the original release and this one (I think the original didn’t have the light up marquee?), but it doesn’t seem to justify that big of a price hike.
It's kind of lame that it doesn't have a 21:9 panel to mimic the way the original cabinet had a CRT with a mirror next to it with another monitor in the bottom to make an ultrawide display.

I told myself as soon as I could afford one I would buy one. Years later I started looking but just couldn’t afford one and it was devastating. I found one for $800 that was in great condition but it was on the other side of the country. When I saw the Mortal Kombat Arcade1up for the first time I was hoping they would end up doing this one and the Simpsons. When I saw they were going to be selling them earlier this year I was so damn excited. I have absolutely no more room in my arcade but redesigned the entire thing so I could make room for these to machine. I checked the site several times a month so I could jump on the preorders soon as they were available. Once it finally came I was devastated for the second time when I saw the price. There is no way I can pay that kind of money for one of these cheaply made machines. I can build my own better and cheaper. So disappointed in Arcade1up.
There was an X-Men arcade in kit form or prebuilt on ebay the monster 6 player one with a modern flat display and many games on it. If you have room then go for it. It's a brand new product not used. But you will pay over a thousand for it.
$600 for the full set up was the best I could find. I don’t feel like modding the light up buttons and marquee like the others so it was worth it to me lol

So when a publisher puts out a classic game I'm already enjoying in ROM form on my Retropie, I make a point of buying it, to both show interest in more releases, and to "play fair" and compensate the people keeping the classics alive. But $700 is just too much. I understand that materials have gone up in price, but I'm happy to wait it out.
The problem with the prices now is cause they are combos. Which comes with a stand extender and a stool. So I still wish there was a option for 200$ less

The license cost a lot. Even John D. confirmed that. So most of the money goes in to the license everything else will suffer in quality, controls etc. In order to keep the price down they have cut some where in the product.

Honestly, for that price point, this cab should come with EVERY game that Arcade1up could feasibly do (meaning due to licensing and rights). But if that means 20 games that most people have never heard of, for $700 they should be giving you EVERYTHING they can.
Looks like they went with the SNES version of the Avengers game on there. The original arcade game had huge, detailed sprites. This is certainly a weird choice for a 1up cabinet...
My biggest complaint with the entire Arcade1up line is the overall width of the cabinets, especially when it comes to 4 player titles. If they made these as wide as a standard arcade game, I would be behind them 100%.
Love the shoutout to the Milford Amusement Center. Spent a lot of quarters there over the years growing up in between games of Q-Zar. They got the fun indeed.
The Sprite size in Captain America is because later in the game you meet crazy bosses. Play through the game. I remember this game having a crazy final boss battle.
I have the same sound issue too. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the splitter going to the headphone jack in this cab? No idea, but that was one thought I had.
Totally . That’s not what it’s made for though . Arcades by and large are for kids . It’s more for you and 3 kids and or you and 1 friend . Factor in the online capabilities and you can still play more .
It sounds exactly like it did back in the 90's. The sound effects were always louder than the rest of the audio. Obviously it costs more because of licensing reasons.
I personally think the audio was always this low def and back in the day we had the arcade noise pollution to contend with. We'd need someone to compare with the OG cabinet to be sure since emulation of this game has traditionally butchered the sound.
$700 is quite expensive. It looks nice and the retro coin slots are cool however, that doesn’t really justify $200 in a price hike. Not many arcades are open so it’s not like it’ll ever be profitable like the old days.
I'd dig the coin doors if it would make the cabinet operate more like an actual coin-op machine (even if optional) so you could also use it like an interactive piggy bank.
I'd like the doors to have slits in them as well as the kick plate to stick coins in for fake and have them drop into a cardboard box or something in the hollow area inside the cabinet. I have the new redesigned TMNT and The Simpsons. I got them on sale, so I didn't pay $700 each for them. More like $500 or so.

I got Simpsons for $499 from Walmart and that's all their worth. $750 is totally unjustified and a ripoff in my opinion because of the issues you discussed. Squeaky, crap buttons unacceptable at this price point. Maybe they should focus on quality instead of volume.
I got The Simpsons one. I wish the coin doors opened. That way you could store a few things in the cabinet since it's basically just empty space in there. I also wish the coin buttons pushed in and lit up. Especially at the $700 price range. I will probably do mods for it eventually. Also, I hate these without the stands, they look weird being so small without them.
I have the street fighter one. Don’t think they are worth the price so I wait until Walmart puts them on clearance and get them for $100 or less. NBA Jam was just $100 a couple weeks ago.
I would guess the increase in price is like most other things with attachment rates or build options. The $200 price increase is probably costs the manufacturer less than $50 to make. If they can put $50 worth of options in there and mark it up another $200 it is alot more lucrative for them. I agree though, the higher price point really puts the machines in a premium tier. I would think they are almost pricing themselves out of a lot of peoples budgets
Thanks for this video. I played the snot out of this game as a kid in the arcades. But I just can't justify this price for a fancy emulation box, especially if it has audio issues. The only reason I keep my X-Box 360 plugged in is because I have X-Men Arcade on it. I guess I'll just stick with that...
Just picked up my first ever cabinet from Best Buy MKII Legacy on sale for $100.00 off. So for about $350 you get 3 MK games including 1 and II Ultimate plus 9 more games. Also the cabinet is a deluxe cabinet and was very heavy to transport. So far happy with the value and playing experience. Highly recommend this cabinet especially if you can find it on sale.
I had the same issue with the control board setting up the Golden Axe 1Up. 2 screws would not fit no matter how much I readjusted and reseated. It's my first 1Up and I just recently assembled it. I have to say I am very surprised how many rave about the cabinets. To me at the new price point, it was way too much of a pain to assemble and took quite some time with horrendous directions that tell you things in an order that ends up causing issues, such as screen protective film and such. Laying on the side panel with the rods was also a pain getting the top rods to pop in near the marquee.. Size wise I think the cab is fine with the riser. The cab looks very nice. But it does not feel durable at all. The bezel is also a scratch magnet and all you have to do is barely touch it and it'll scratch. Also, there seems to be input lag..it just doesn't make sense at the price and I'm not sure why these issues aren't more widely discussed.
Arcade 1up also has cheaper countercades that are getting popular. The higher price of the newer arcades might be for collectors only. I might have interest in a countercade someday.
Klaw was the white guy with the accent in the Avengers 2 movie who said the line to Ultron who said, "You sound like Tony Stark" and proceeds to shoot his arm off. That arm is later replaced by a hook or fake arm. He was also in Black Panther with the gun arm.
Thanks for sharing, I’m a bit on the opposite, I would have preferred Captain America and the Avengers being the main artwork for the machine. However the cost and issues make me hesitant to buy much arcade1ups, I was debating on Tron, but until I see reviews and hopefully some deals I’ll hold off.
All three games are really solid. The Captain America and the Avengers game had smaller sprites but the story and environments were pretty good. X-Men is the premier multiplayer super hero adventure. I think the price is worth it for an X-Men fan and the X-Men is such a HUGE franchise.
I'm not surprised at what is happening with the Arcade 1Up machines. These machines are supposed to be an affordable arcade experience, however, since they are becoming soo popular, the price will just keep going up.

They got the 6 player at the smaller Pinballz in Austin, TX. It was for sale I think but it was yrs ago.

My biggest complaint with the entire Arcade1up line is the overall width of the cabinets, especially when it comes to 4 player titles. If they made these as wide as a standard arcade game, I would be behind them 100%.

The Sprite size in Captain America is because later in the game you meet crazy bosses. Play through the game. I remember this game having a crazy final boss battle.

I have the same sound issue too. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the splitter going to the headphone jack in this cab? No idea, but that was one thought I had.
As much as I love that game, I can't imagine crowding 4 fully grown men around that teeny tiny screen. Looks beautiful though.
Totally . That’s not what it’s made for though . Arcades by and large are for kids . It’s more for you and 3 kids and or you and 1 friend . Factor in the online capabilities and you can still play more .
Yes I usually just play with one other person on my 4 player 1ups. They are perfect for just that. Or you and a couple of ladies

Same. I'd pay for a full sized reproduction. These are just too small. They'd look silly in my game room next to my full sized cabinet.

It sounds exactly like it did back in the 90's. The sound effects were always louder than the rest of the audio. Obviously it costs more because of licensing reasons.
I personally think the audio was always this low def and back in the day we had the arcade noise pollution to contend with. We'd need someone to compare with the OG cabinet to be sure since emulation of this game has traditionally butchered the sound.
It almost sounds like something with the speakers. If they change that much they should install better speaker. I ordered the KI one.
$700 is quite expensive. It looks nice and the retro coin slots are cool however, that doesn’t really justify $200 in a price hike. Not many arcades are open so it’s not like it’ll ever be profitable like the old days.

I'd dig the coin doors if it would make the cabinet operate more like an actual coin-op machine (even if optional) so you could also use it like an interactive piggy bank.
I'd like the doors to have slits in them as well as the kick plate to stick coins in for fake and have them drop into a cardboard box or something in the hollow area inside the cabinet. I have the new redesigned TMNT and The Simpsons. I got them on sale, so I didn't pay $700 each for them. More like $500 or so.

Excellent review bro, thank you for your honesty. John D. definitely needs to hear real world feedback from average consumers, not influencers pushing their products. I got Simpsons for $499 from Walmart and that's all their worth. $750 is totally unjustified and a ripoff in my opinion because of the issues you discussed. Squeaky, crap buttons unacceptable at this price point. Maybe they should focus on quality instead of volume.

I got The Simpsons one. I wish the coin doors opened. That way you could store a few things in the cabinet since it's basically just empty space in there. I also wish the coin buttons pushed in and lit up. Especially at the $700 price range. I will probably do mods for it eventually. Also, I hate these without the stands, they look weird being so small without them.

I have the street fighter one. Don’t think they are worth the price so I wait until Walmart puts them on clearance and get them for $100 or less. NBA Jam was just $100 a couple weeks ago.

I would guess the increase in price is like most other things with attachment rates or build options. The $200 price increase is probably costs the manufacturer less than $50 to make. If they can put $50 worth of options in there and mark it up another $200 it is alot more lucrative for them. I agree though, the higher price point really puts the machines in a premium tier. I would think they are almost pricing themselves out of a lot of peoples budgets
It's on sale for $589 at Game Stop. $749 everywhere else, and ebay is a rip off for X-Men. One seller is selling one for over a thousand.

Thanks for this video. I played the snot out of this game as a kid in the arcades. But I just can't justify this price for a fancy emulation box, especially if it has audio issues. The only reason I keep my X-Box 360 plugged in is because I have X-Men Arcade on it. I guess I'll just stick with that...
Just picked up my first ever cabinet from Best Buy MKII Legacy on sale for $100.00 off. So for about $350 you get 3 MK games including 1 and II Ultimate plus 9 more games. Also the cabinet is a deluxe cabinet and was very heavy to transport. So far happy with the value and playing experience. Highly recommend this cabinet especially if you can find it on sale.

I had the same issue with the control board setting up the Golden Axe 1Up.
2 screws would not fit no matter how much I readjusted and reseated. It's my first 1Up and I just recently assembled it. I have to say I am very surprised how many rave about the cabinets. To me at the new price point, it was way too much of a pain to assemble and took quite some time with horrendous directions that tell you things in an order that ends up causing issues, such as screen protective film and such.
Laying on the side panel with the rods was also a pain getting the top rods to pop in near the marquee..
Size wise I think the cab is fine with the riser. The cab looks very nice. But it does not feel durable at all. The bezel is also a scratch magnet and all you have to do is barely touch it and it'll scratch. Also, there seems to be input lag..it just doesn't make sense at the price and I'm not sure why these issues aren't more widely discussed.
Arcade 1up also has cheaper countercades that are getting popular. The higher price of the newer arcades might be for collectors only. I might have interest in a countercade someday.

I think the sound effects were established to give that age old charm to the machine's premiere era. (Squeaking control stick knobs included😁)
Klaw was the white guy with the accent in the Avengers 2 movie who said the line to Ultron who said, "You sound like Tony Stark" and proceeds to shoot his arm off. That arm is later replaced by a hook or fake arm. He was also in Black Panther with the gun arm.
Thanks for sharing, I’m a bit on the opposite, I would have preferred Captain America and the Avengers being the main artwork for the machine. However the cost and issues make me hesitant to buy much arcade1ups, I was debating on Tron, but until I see reviews and hopefully some deals I’ll hold off.
$700 for three games or a PS5 and an xbox series S? 1up price gouging their customers plain and simple

Damn, I remember that commercial for Milford amusement center lol. I used to frequent pips arcade in Clinton, that place was awesome.
All three games are really solid. The Captain America and the Avengers game had smaller sprites but the story and environments were pretty good. X-Men is the premier multiplayer super hero adventure. I think the price is worth it for an X-Men fan and the X-Men is such a HUGE franchise.
I'm not surprised at what is happening with the Arcade 1Up machines. These machines are supposed to be an affordable arcade experience, however, since they are becoming soo popular, the price will just keep going up.
Just release all these great arcade games onto consoles. They're worth $10, not $300-$700. Asking that is just insane.
