I knew they were done once the MvC Collection got announced at the Nintendo Direct. You're getting more games for WAY cheaper than an Arcade 1 cabinet.
They were done way before that. The Nintendo MvC announcement had zero to do with it at all. There has always been a million different ways to play those MvC games, as well as every single game Arcade 1up released as a cabinet before. Playing on an arcade cabinet with joysticks vs playing on a Switch are two completely different experiences. Arcade1up made a lot of boneheaded decisions which lead to their end. A specific console release has absolutely nothing to do with it lol.

Better check again, it's now $700. RGT is right, this company will be declaring bankruptcy sometime in the near future. In the modern era of Bidenomincs, their prices just aren't realistic. $300 is the sweet spot as many have said. Their prices are going up, and the quality of their cabs are going down. That's the legacy of the modern age it seems.
A1Up knocked it out of the park with Tron, Star Wars and Dragonslair - all mostly true to the original form factor of the full size cabs. Where they went wrong was charging people an arm and a leg for particle board Ikea furniture. I'm sure licensing is expensive, but in some cases you could find an original full size cab at a comparable price. A1Up decided to gouge us for convenience.
Under $200? What are you talking about? People need to get paid, buy food, etc. Under $400 would make more sense. Talk about fantasy thinking in inflation world.

I really prefer the cabinets to consoles, but 3-4 games was way too limiting in terms of how much space they take up, and then with the price hikes on top of that, it just stopped making sense and lost its appeal.
I got what I wanted. The Simpsons and Killer Instinct used for amazing prices. Its sad because there is still potential but Im sure they are pretty much done.
Arcade1up was already niche to begin with. Now with their prices being what they are it's now a niche of a niche, especially when there are way more affordable methods of playing these classic arcade games. A few example of this are emulation, re-releases on consoles and PC, etc.
i went out and bought a nice super nintendo to play my old nba jam game for way cheaper then what they want for a cheaply made mdf jam cabinet, hooked up to my old crt and im back in the game for way less money
I modded mine too. These things take up too much realestate to only play a handful of games. Unless you have the space for an arcade room, and can fit multiple machines, I'd rather just have 1 in my space with tons of games. I bought a Xmen 4 player cabinet so I'd have a machine that could handle all the games I would want to play as I put a trackball on it. I got lightguns, and extra USB ports to hook them up or extra controllers. It was supposed to end there, but I keep going. I think this what a midlife crisis looks like for nerds who lived thru the 80s and/or 90s hehe.
These seemed cool and stuff but I think the issue for most people is that even if they had the money to buy it, the space to actually have it around would make people think twice about buying it. Most people either have an apartment or a small house with a family. The actual market for people that could both buy AND have the space available isn't big. RIP though.
This is probably why we got the marvel Capcom fighting collection after they made the marvel Vs Capcom 2 cabnit … arcade1up knew that they were on their way out and the console companies stepped in to see if they can cop the licenses after all these years of Disney holding the IPs over capcoms head
Arcade 1up started with affordable Arcade Machines that were a little smaller. Then fans wanted more games on the machines & for the machines to looks like actually Arcade Machines. This leads to higher costs. Arcade 1up is now for collectors that will spend to higher amount for the machines.
First gen MSRP (non light up marquee, no replica coin door, crap monitors) in 2018 were $300-400, current gen deluxe cabs are normally $500 but typically include 10+ games each vs 2-4. Inflation since 2018 when these launched is around 25%... so most of the increase in MSRP scales with inflation ($400 in 2018 = $500 today) but you are getting better features (light up marquees, replica coin doors), more games and larger cab without needing to buy a separate riser. I'd argue in most cases that the new cabs are a better product than they were 6 years ago at a similar or even better value proposition.
As someone very involved in the A1U community, I'd have to say your take is pretty accurate, RGT. They lost their licensing mojo, pumped out rehashes, and went silent with fans. It's not only not a good look... it's not good business.
Im w you on that. I just have one machine that I modded to play everything. Never felt the slightest urge to buy another one. I don't understand why anyone would want to spend thousands of dollars to have a collection. Crazy waste of time, money, and space.
It's cool to mod your Arcade1up, but here's the cons: It gets annoying to keep updating your PC software and securities every single day. If you don't update, your PC will run slow. You don't have to do it on the Pi and Odroid boards. Also, you have shut down your PC properly. If you don't, it'll corrupt your files. It's not like Arcade1up when you can safely shutdown by turning the on/off power switch. Worst of all, there's too much wirings that to have to removed the control deck bottom cover, if adding additional buttons. If you're not tech savvy who can solder wires and all, don't mod it.
@@mattgallo9805 Depends on the Games you want to play. My favorite games, use special controllers... like Spinners, Trackballs, Trigger sticks. Its not easy to replicate all of the specialty controller games, into a single cabinet. And the thing it... I preferred actual Arcade machines to boot... because they were 100% authentic, and have superior CRT monitors.
Not surprised. Saw it coming since last year. They never really gave the consumers what they really wanted. Couldn't even put decent buttons and sticks on their machines. That said, some of those rarer cabinets like the Ridge Racer, Outrun, Burgertime, Star Wars, Centipedes are really going to shoot up in value now. In addition to some of the rarer Partycades and Countercades like the Defender and Street Fighter ones.

They definitely have to fix it and bring out better games.
That's about standard as far as reactions go. I think they did pitch a AVP to Retailers but much like everything that has leaked out in prototype photos recently. It was refused by retailers.

They could have just continued to release new cabs with 3-4 games each, at the $399 price point, and they would’ve been fine. Even if the games were more obscure licenses, people would buy them.

Having a room full of these would give anyone the nostalgia bug. The arcade cab art looks cool and were at a decent price. Especially if you had nothing to compare these to. Really great for young kids. OG players will gripe at controls, size and latency for some games. They should have given folks the ability customize the art and expand the games list on these.

Best thing is modding them. If you can get one cheap on the used market you really can have a decent little arcade system. But think the number one issue with most multicade setups is that people download giant ROM packs and just load the system full of thousands of games… and then it’s a pain to find anything to play and then you gravitate to the single game cabinets instead. My best advice for a multicade cabinet is practice restraint, make a list of your top games you ACTUALLY want to play and ONLY put those on it. Makes it much better for others using it too. Otherwise it’s just a lot of scrolling in menus and going “oh wow! This has EVERYTHING! Neat!” And very little time playing games.
“I met some guys at the expo and they told me a rumor so I’m going to repeat it regardless if I know it’s true” Sounds like so many of your other videos. “Hey, I overheard someone say in the supermarket that the Switch 2 will play PlayStation 5 discs. Doesn’t sound right but I guess I’ll make a 10 minute video about it because it might be true”.

The problem, is a lot of the big, main games people wanted; they’ve done. The prices have gone up, and the markets saturated. Why buy a new one, if you want get one used on Facebook for $100-$200? Most people get them, love it for 6 months, and get tired of them. Or the wife wants it moved out for another “live laugh love” sign 😂 They’re toys, decorations. And it’s gotten played out. People get bored. It’s becoming far more niche now, and the products aren’t getting any better

Just enjoy the ones you have at this point because all your going to get now are the same cabinet every year in a new form factor. I wanted Gauntlet but it was too quirky. I wanted the 12 game Joust cabinet but I felt I'd rather have a high qualuty cabinet for more. I would have made an exception for Spy Hunter but that never came out. Edited for failure to auto correct
The footboard is to keep it from tipping forward. I wonder if they could inject more excitement into their products by using a more open architecture for their pcbs. Instead of a one use, custom pcb for every cabinet, use a universal pcb like an android box/raspi in every system, and just have different roms for every cabinet. The difference in cabinets would then come down to how many buttons and the types of controls, depending on the theme. It would save manufacturing overhead in the background, and give the users a more reliable and easier to upgrade experience.

Their prices as well i rather emulate on a rasberry pi and get all those games on one single cabinet
@stevenwasik3369 Don't be silly. If you can install Linux on a dead badger, you can CERTAINLY game on a food item.

Saw terminator 2 for 300$. Then it went 600$. Won't pay 600$ for one game. Arcade 1up got greedy
The XL cabinets they did most recently was what they should’ve been doing from the start, and at or around their original price point.
Hope they discount the machines for Christmas. Would love to get the NBA Jam Arcade for under $200.
Under $200? What are you talking about? People need to get paid, buy food, etc.

But lets be honest we'd rather have the arcade games in an affordable replacement on consoles
I really prefer the cabinets to consoles, but 3-4 games was way too limiting in terms of how much space they take up, and then with the price hikes on top of that, it just stopped making sense and lost its appeal.
Sad to see em go. I'm still getting that ridge racer machine one day though gosh darnnit
I got what I wanted. The Simpsons and Killer Instinct used for amazing prices. Its sad because there is still potential but Im sure they are pretty much done.
What was fun was when they weren't selling like crazy and you could find them for $75.
Arcade 1up renewed my love for arcade cabinets.but i did end up building my own cabinet with a PC ..
I would have got some but the price tags were way too pricey
I got the four player tmnt for my studio and my clients love coming in and being able to play it while they wait their turn at getting tattoos.
Wait until the Ridge Racer Collection, NBA Jam TE, and KI comes to Switch 2.
If there's no online I'll just stick with my roms of those on my raspberry pi
As someone very involved in the A1U community, I'd have to say your take is pretty accurate, RGT. They lost their licensing mojo, pumped out rehashes, and went silent with fans. It's not only not a good look... it's not good business.
My problem with them is that if I ever get an Arcade machine, I just want a single machine that does everything.

Its not easy to replicate all of the specialty controller games, into a single cabinet. And the thing it... I preferred actual Arcade machines to boot... because they were 100% authentic, and have superior CRT monitors.

Can you imagine the discounts if they file BK!!!! NEVER pay full price!!!
Thats what I'm waiting for
They could have just continued to release new cabs with 3-4 games each, at the $399 price point, and they would’ve been fine. Even if the games were more obscure licenses, people would buy them.
People make fun of you for no riser because anyone taller than a hobbit sits down on stool at a 1up WITH a riser 😂
Risers aren't that expensive either. You can get graphics to put on them if you want, so not like they have be boring. I put some on the front of the riser for my rampage machine since it had the generic one. I'm 5'4" and I can't imagine sitting or standing at an Arcade 1up without a riser.
All great points!! I think they priced themselves out of the market. When the prices climbed into the $600 $700 range the quality didn't match the price.

Your.. not wrong. Arcade1up is in a huge legal battle right now with their former design firm, thinkup gaming, depending on how it ends, 1up will in fact be gone within the end of the year, for now it's pretty much just what you said, revisions
Lots of revisions.
I’m thankful to of purchased and built a small arcade in my basement. Unfortunately my basement angles going downstairs was unable to fit a legit Arcade. Arcade1up made those dreams a reality at least for me and my family I’ll always be thankful for that and I will be keeping all 10 machines.
I do think people will miss this company when they are gone.

The problem, is a lot of the big, main games people wanted; they’ve done.
The prices have gone up, and the markets saturated.
Why buy a new one, if you want get one used on Facebook for $100-$200?
Most people get them, love it for 6 months, and get tired of them. Or the wife wants it moved out for another “live laugh love” sign 😂
They’re toys, decorations.
And it’s gotten played out. People get bored.
It’s becoming far more niche now, and the products aren’t getting any better
So any of the cabinets can be modded with a raspberry Pi and loaded up with pretty much any game correct? Cause Ollie’s has some cabinets for $120

Sitting down to play an arcade is just wrong. Standing up gives that feeling of being back in the arcades, otherwise just play a console.
