  • If your clothes come out wet from the spin cycle, your clutch pads are worn, and your machine can't correctly spin the water out.
    This video will help you replace the clutch on your Whirlpool-style machine. A Whirlpool, Maytag, Conservator, Estate, Amana, KitchenAid, or Kenmore will have this particular part on it.

I have several short story titles you can get on Amazon; the links are below. Some are humorous, some reflect events in my life, and some are legends I heard of as a child in the swamps of Louisiana. They are only a dollar or two, and most are free with Kindle unlimited membership. I hope you will take the time to read one or two and give me your honest opinion in the comments on whether or not I should continue to pursue a side gig as an author.

    Just replaced my clutch. Now my agitator will engage but washer won’t spin. It spun for one cycle and then stopped.

      You did something wrong. Pull the transmission again and examine your work. Look at the brake cam on the spin tube. Be sure it releases the brakes. If everything looks good on the outside then replace the neutral drain kit. Fix The Whirlpool Transmission | Replace the Neutral Drain Kit

    Excellent video. Just replaced my transmission box and washer still not working. I can see the Gear box spinning box machine still not agaiting.😢

      Because you commented on the clutch replacement video I assume you mean you replaced your clutch. The clutch has no function in the agitation cycle so you probably have an issue with your transmission. Specifically the parts on the lower end of the shaft. This is probably the video you should be watching. Whirlpool Gearcase Rebuild | Total Overhaul Corrected

    i have a whirlpool direct drive top load washer. I cannot spin the agitator by hand but if i spin the coupling that connects the motor to the transmission it will spin the shaft. Im wondering if this is going to be the clutch?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The clutch is associated with the spin function of the transmission and has nothing to do with the agitator. If you are having problems with agitation your problem is elsewhere. Thanks for watching!

    mine would spin very randomly but aways agitate. clutch good and tight but replaced the band. still no good. brake was tight so replaced spin basket/brake assembly, still no good. changed out transmission and that did it.

      I bet the plastic spin gear was worn out in the transmission. Get a neutral drain kit and you'll have a spare transmission. Thanks for watching!

      @@HarperandKnowles Chip a few questions. when rebuilding a transmission, how do you know if fluid is still good, do you use a solvent (like kerosene) to clean out and its gear oil 85-90wt ? thx

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I look at the transparency of the oil. If it’s black and nasty I'll change it or if there are metal flakes or plastic shavings I'll do the same.

    I just wish I could manage to pull the shaft out of my girlfriend's Roper washer to install the clutch kit I've had for a month. I've been repairing direct drive washers for years and have never encountered this problem

      Remove the agitator and motor and unbolt the transmission. Turn the machine on its side. With a similar-sized rod or block of wood, use a heavy hammer to drive the shaft out through the bottom. Usually, when the shaft clears the first seal, it comes right out. Thanks for watching!

    I replaced the clutch but now the washer doesn't balance. What did i do wrong?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you had it turned up you might have misaligned the triangular plate that rides between the tub fins. Be careful with this, you can crack the tub if the fins ride up on the plate. Also, check that the spring at the rear left of the machine is attached to the bottom of the frame. You should also check the snubber pads for excessive wear. Thanks for watching!

      Put the transmission back in and secure it with one bolt. Take a piece of 100 grit sandpaper and polish the shaft below the agitator splines and above the shaft seal to remove any rust. Make it shiny. Blow off any dust or wipe it clean. Apply some oil, or WD40 to the area and try it again.

      @@HarperandKnowles smoothed that surface with a very fine file ,cleaned recess with a pick tool will hit it with KROIL and let it soak . at this point im about to to get the sawzall

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  ปีที่แล้ว

      With the washer on its side use something to drive the shaft out. Once it passes the top seal it should be easier to pull out. I use an old shaft from a used transmission for this just be careful not to scar up the splines or the threads for the agitator bolt.. FYI if you polish the top of that shaft after you get it out it should go back in easier. You did take all three bolts out of the transmission? Don't use the sawzall !
