I assume it’s because a lot of toilet papers sold in the EU don’t disintegrate easily when flushed down the toilet. It might also be because we would normally take several folds/plies of toilet paper at a time and therefore making the plumbing prone to clogging.

In Strasbourg I was able to buy a place (tiny but very cosy, with a real bathroom and big bathtub, and a mezzanine floor big enough for a big mattress and some furniture, so even if the place was tiny I had a real living-room with sofas and everything) and I paid only 500€ a month for the bank loan, while beeing on minimum wage, so... prices and rent in capital cities seem so CRAZY to me !... :D

You can try and request some help for your rent, even some foreign students are able to obtain it. Depending on your salary, they can help you cover a good part of your rent and after working for 3 months still depending on your salary, you can also get a bonus each month from the gov too (I think as long you don't make over 1700 euros per month as a single person without kids).

The staircase is absolutely beautiful, walking upstairs is a superb activity boost, the apartment is actually really spacious (judging by the European standards) and your plants are doing so good! And it not being your style propably kinda makes you go out more so it's another pro, isn't it? Sending you all the positive vibes x

Can we talk about how the first day I moved in, my host was like “The key will be under the mat!” But then the day I moved in, there was a painting crew repainting the entire staircase...and they moved all the mats, so I had to explain to the landlord why I looked like was moving in...Oops

I lived in Paris for 1.5 years - my apartment was 18m2 (but maybe even smaller?) and I paid 680 euros + EDF monthly, in the 17eme. It was a tiny shoebox and I hated it and life was miserable in Paris. :) Definitely NOT a city for me.

If I was the landlord, here's what I would do:
    1) I would tear down all the walls and rent it as a loft/1 pièce.
    2) Change every window
    3) Reconfigure the "foyer"/kitchen/living room space
    4) Add a kitchen island that can serve as storage and table at the same time.
    5) Reconfigure the bathroom/bedroom space
    6) Paint every wall with a pale color so it seems bigger and can be easier to decorate.
Only then, I would have rented this for 1200 euro/month.

    There is no bidet because
    1- there's no room 😂😂😂
2- it's growing out of style in France. When people redo or revamp their bathroom, they get rid of their bidets. If you want a bidet, ( 😂😂😂), every dwelling in Italy has one (or more :D )
