Mdm Leong reminded me of my grandma who had passed on. She's really cute and I love her never say die spirit. Salute to all hawkers for bringing these wonderful food to us and keeping the legacy alive. Thank you CNA for such well documented series. It gave me lots of inspiration to move forward.
@@serpentzachary1340 totally agree. I am a singaporean myself and I always prefer hawker food compared to restaurant food. as it is tasty and cheap. Hence, I only patronize restaurants during special occasions.
U guys are what made Singapore today and what garnered us and our hawker culture the Unesco Heritage. I am proud that we have hawkers in Singapore who serve up good meals. And we can see the work is tough, demanding, with full of ups and downs and there is alot of commitment, discipline and (most importantly) passion needed. have watched all 4 episodes of Belly of Nation 2. Well done CNA for giving a nice series to something easily forgotten in Singapore.
i never consider eating in Singapore as expensive because of these places. I think it is even cheaper than Philippines and Indonesia. Food is so great and the serving size very generous.
Brought tears to my eyes seeing the sign of Ah Ma's Nam Seng being brought down. Hope you'll be back soon. Great stuff cna wish we could have some proper shows like this in Thailand. 🙏👍
That grandma who sell wonton mee is so sweet and seems nice, may she blessed with great health and wealth in 2021. I hope i can visit her store when i visit singapore in the near future
I loved madame Leong attitude she such hard work and optimistic person. She seen really dedicated to her craft and is super admirable. My great gradma sold traditional Salvadoran candy for most of her life and she always had a great personality too. She past the tradition to my gradma but she is the last one who knows the craft. Is really sad when traditional gets lost, so I hope she can continue with her business.
nostalgia hitting me hard just by watching this documentary. i use to eat at hawker centers every day when i was working there almost 10 years ago. miss so many delicious food nasi/mee goreng, nasi lemak, wonton noodles, mee rebus, hainanese chicken rice, roti paratha, tea tarek etc. best thing was the were all affordable. hats off the the hawker center staff. now that i am leaving in canada here you cant really have a good meal in less then 10 dollars so you cant able afford to eat out everyday.
I have watched all of the episodes! Gosh, the story of each episode is cohesively well-documented. All together create a beautiful cascade of the journey inside Singapore's hawkers from the historical perspective and how it transcends through the modern era, including the difficult times as now. Thanks CNA Insider for the remarkable documentary and effort. I enjoyed every second of your work.
Truly enjoyed this series, every episode beautifully highlighted the human side of the hawker industry. The sacrifices, joys and setbacks they have to go through, thanks for producing this!
Such a moving story about the Singaporean hawkers - these folks are really Singapore's cultural heritage. I sincerely hope they all are managing to survive and will be back in 2021!
Really miss those who fed me during my 2years of stay & salute their dedication to feed the entire nation from morning to evening. My Sympathies are with them for going through the hardest times. “We shall overcome someday”... 🙏🙏🙏
The 92 year old grandma! Awesome!! She’s perfect. My grandma lived until she was 92. Then she got Cancer. At 92? It sucked. But she lived long, and was still active. She loved to go out to eat and try new things. She loved a glass of wine and good margarita also. Lol. Her fav snack was nachos!
Thank you, I dearly love watching this serie! Hope to see and visit these stalls in my next tript to SG. And hopefully the Granny of 91 has her new stall! For me she is a true spirit and soul of SG foodies.
I have the greatest utmost respect for hawkers & chefs. They do what they do for passion, not for anything else. Cause it’s not a life that everyone would choose
Great documentary from CNA. While the quality of shows and dramas from channel 5 and 8 have dropped significantly since the 90s and early 00s, CNA has improved by leap and bounds and is now the crown jewel of MediaCorp.

What an impressive hawker food culture 👍🏻. Yes, hygiene is a MUST! Like to see how “take away” and deliveries can use less plastic for better health and less hazardous to our precious environments 🙏🏻
"They sold Ma La Xiang Guo which isn't Singaporean but Chinese, translated as numbly spice stir fry it sound better in Chinese" Hahaha it sound best when you say it!
Surprising that the old hawkers in Singapore are resistant to cashless payment systems. The old street hawkers in Shanghai, who are arguably less educated than their counterparts in Singapore, have already moved to cashless 5 years ago.
