This is poverty, stop glorifying it with calling it a calling. It's nobody's calling to work that hard with an aching back and heart problems.
This is a wonderful look inside a culture that to most Americans unknown. I very much enjoyed watching this presentation. It wasn't just about food, it was also about culture and family.

been to these hawker centres many time while enjoying my holidays in singapore. the meals serving are inexpensive and very delicious. all these hard working singaporeans working hard to feed us. my respect to them all. tell singapore i love her
Hard work but can be rewarding but not necessarily financially. When people appreciate what you dished out is spiritual fulfilment in itself.
There are big lessons to be learnt by people who are Hawkers in Singapore and in Asia. I love that entrepreneur spirit. The hard work and overcoming adversary in life to survive. Having independence. Struggling to repay loans and supporting their families. There are alot of values to be learnt from that.
Beautiful people with so much love in their hearts, a family tie that is incomparable and unbreakable .. the history and culture of what has brought them to the now, is something to appreciate, value and learn from. 💖

I've been worked in Singapore for 5 years 20 years ago i really missed the the foods nasi lamak , crabs curry , pink and white colours gluten rice i love Singapore looking forward to visit that country again

When I was in SG for a month, those hawker places were one of my favorites! Saves me a lot of money and there are lots of food choices. So good. And they serve a lot for what I pay.

I love Singapore. Very beautiful country, very friendly and helpful people.
Hawkers show the epitome of entrepreneurship - it takes grit, mental discipline and perseverance to succeed in any trade or profession.
Hawkers are trully unique in SG. The place, the people and the food! It will be the most I will dearly miss and remember when I'm no longer in Sg.
Hawkers have so much love for their craft, and are such natural entrepreneurs. Grit/perseverance to keep going in the face of difficulties and the energy to make their vision a reality. Got to respect that.
I used to stay at one of the units in that row of shophouses on Syed Alwi Road during my childhood days. I missed those days where my grandaunt would open her "stall" at the base of the stairs of the shophouse that we stayed in. Every early morning, it will always be so bustling with people where patrons go around their normal marketing routine and the stallholders preparing their stock to sell. My Grandaunt would prepare her dishes at our home kitchen upstairs, e.g. Char Bee Hoon, Char Mee, Char Kway Teow, etc. This is one part of my childhood that I wouldn't mind reliving again and again. I believe this is one experience that can't be found anywhere else. From time to time when I reminiscence those times, it just brings up a wonderful feeling; anyone who has been through similar living conditions would understand.
When I grew older, only then I realized that I have unknowingly lived through the actual "Kampong Spirit/Togetherness" during my childhood, an experience that you can never get now in current Singapore. I miss my Grandaunt so much; especially her cooking.
This hawker series are all about human drama. That's why I love this series so much.
I was in Singapore in December of 1978. Loved it. Can’t wait to go back.
I taught Singapore is way ahead against all ASEAN nations in terms of status .... I guess we all are on the same boat 🚣♀️.. monetarily Singapore is above all Asian countries but the hardship .. “ The blood,sweat,& tears “ we are all together ....
May the Grand Architect of the Universe profusely give the Singapore Hawkers strength to overcome future endeavors.

in the caribbean, the dum briyani ( MEAT cooked with the rice) is called PELAU. we cook chicken , beef, mutton pork pelau. very very yummy. i miss singaporean food as well

Compare hawker food prices to restaurants', if we wanna keep our hawker heritage alive, we should increase hawker food prices to increase their income to keep this sustainable and worthwhile for more hawkers.

Hawker life is really tough, lets support them more and finish our plates clean! And return the plates too. They sell really good food at affordable prices

Hawkers are really the best, it's only after I started living overseas and tried to cook my own, and started to realise how much work goes into a seemingly simple dish. My own version taste disgusting haha
