    My Mother worked for Molyneux,a very exclusive couturier.She did all the fitting's for Princess Marina's wedding dress,helped by all the workroom girls.She said Princess Marina was a lovely friendly person.After the wedding,the girls received a portion of wedding cake each,and a LARGE bottle of champagne from Princess Marina .

      Marina herself had a been a house model for major couture houses in Paris in the late 1920s/ early 1930s. Her family were in exile from Greece, living in Paris and she was very beautiful, so clothes looked magnificent on her.

    To the author. One important correction. After the Duke's death, it will cease to be a royal dukedom and his son will be addressed as His Grace instead of His Royal Highness NOT because of the Catholic conversion of his mother. It is because the present duke is a grandchild of a monarch, and hence both a royal prince AND royal duke (just like his cousin, Richard of Glouster). But he is not a direct line grandchild, for instance like William. Edward's son will be a (non direct line) great-grandchild and not eligible to be a prince. He inherits his father's dukedom and therefore is His Grace, like all dukes in the UK. But it has zero to do with Catholicism. The Catholicism issue is simply why he is not in line of succession any longer, totally separate issues.

    • @jimleonard6822
      @jimleonard6822 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Exactly right, the present Duke of Kent is the grandson, in the male line, of a monarch and, as such, can assume the title "Royal Highness" but that privilege ends with him. Great-grandchildren of the monarch who are not in the direct line of succession cannot, since the decision of King Gorge V in 1917, be styled as Royal highness. The children of Princess Anne are not Royal Highnesses, even though they are grandchildren of a monarch, they are not in the male line.

      @@Gypsygal23 that's nonsense. You read/were told wrong. Her HUSBAND was offered an earldom, which meant that the children would have been "Lord" or "Lady" at birth. She hardly lived in poverty. Members of the RF gave her money and later paid her an allowance; paid for the children's education; gave her a grace & favour home in Kensington Palace.
    She had a staff of 11, ran around in rolls royces, wore designer clothes, left a fortune in jewellery, holidayed abroad several times a year.

      Thank you, well liked more like well hated. She thought herself to be above even Queen Elizabeth, Queen Consort later Queen Mother She thought she was more royal than everyone, though the Greek royal family was hardly allowed in Greece. Ironically, after the Council of Vienna the only place the European powers supported nationalist ambitions was in what would become Greece. Being part of the Ottoman Empire for so long and on the periphery of Europe the powers placed a Non-Greek on the throne as was done in other countries. Unfortunately the people who gave us the word xenophobia never really accepted this so she may have been royal, but without a country. I hear Meghan Markle keeps a picture of her in a locket.

      Marina, Dowager Duchess of Kent was not just a member of the Greek Royal House but her Great Grandfather was Tsar Alexander II, her father was Vladimir Alexandrovich Romanov and her mother was Elena who married into the Greek Royal family. Marina’s uncle, Vladimir later became the self declared Tsar of Russia after the execution of Nicholas II, his son Alexei and his brother Michael. Her Royal heritage was why she felt the Queen Mother and Alice, Duchess of Gloucester were “those Scottish girls” and she was better. In addition, she had been chosen as the bride for the Prince of Wales, later Duke of Windsor. However, he preferred married women!

    Princess Marina was a first cousin of Prince Philip, and an aunt by marriage of QEII. Although not rich by royal standards, she was well provided for in widowhood. Her home at Coppins was bequeathed to her husband by his favourite aunt, Princess Victoria (or Toria, as she was known, who had died just before her brother, King George V at the end of 1935). And while she herself may not have automatically received a royal stipend during the war, her children certainly did, which included the full costs of their education and a number of staff. Queen Mary is known to have been close to her - supplying much of her jewellery; and she was particularly close to her sister Olga, Princess Paul of Yugoslavia. What she lacked in funds, she received in kind, and privately, from the King and members of all the royal families she was connected to.
    I'm not sure what you're referring to when you describe the air crash that killed Prince George as a mystery. While the princes' sexuality had long aroused far more interest than it should have done - and conspiracy theorists might hold that the Powers-that-be had a history of killing-off gay or bisexual princes during the period of all homosexual activity being illegal and punishable with imprisonment - reference Prince Albert Victor in 1892, it is simply a conspiracy theory and nothing more. Irrespective of where the duke was going or who he was with in the 1942 crash, it has now been established that it was definitely an accident.
    I suspect her son the 2nd Duke took her on a tour of the Far East when he was aged 17, rather than the other way around! This is because as Duke of Kent, he would have been the official visitor - and because he was unmarried, his mother remained Duchess of Kent, and not Dowager, a title that she was never obliged to use and didn't technically become until his marriage to Katherine in 1960.
    The religion of the Earl of St Andrews and Baron Downpatrick has nothing to do with their lack of royal status - either now or in future, when they eventually succeed as Duke of Kent. This is because under the Provisions of the Titles Deprivation Act, 1917, the princely style and titular dignity of His or Her Royal Highness is reserved only for children and grandchildren in the male line of a Sovereign. The only exception was "the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales," however in 2013, Queen Elizabeth II issued Letters Patent extending this exception to "all children of the (then) Duke and Duchess of Cambridge." (This was in order to avoid the situation where if their firstborn had been female, she might subsequently have been displaced by the birth of a male). As he is a grandchild in the male line of King George V, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent has used the titular dignity of HRH all his life (he was styled (HRH The Earl of St Andrews when his father was still alive); but because he is not the Prince of Wales, none of his children are entitled to be known as Princes or Princesses with the dignity of HRH and they are instead, styled as the children of a non-royal duke. Indeed, as it appears King Charles desires to limit the princely style and use of HRH, possibly to the main line only, I suspect that a new Titles Deprivation Act will; replace the 1917 one, and future grandchildren of a Sovereign that are not in the main line of succession, will also be styled in this way, although he may concede to allowing their younger children (but not grandchildren) to remain Prince/ss without the dignity of HRH...

    • @HotVoodooWitch
      @HotVoodooWitch 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Queen's Letters Patent of 2012 had nothing to do with male primogeniture; she just wanted all of William's children to be HRH while she was still alive instead of just George. I personally thought it was overkill, given that they'd all be HRH eventually, but hey--that was her pleasure.

    It's like Sandra, which is its shortened form.

    The future styling of the current Earl of St Andrew’s as “his Grace” and not HRH is not because of his Catholicism but rather the fact that he is a GREAT grandson of a sovereign (George V). The HRH designation ends with his father - a grandson of the sovereign. Even if the Earl had remained an Anglican, he would not be an HRH when he assumes the dukedom.

  • @timallardyce1216
    @timallardyce1216 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    No. The change in religion is NOT why the Dukedom of Kent will not be a royal dukedom. It's because of the Letters Patent of George V limiting who is called prince or princess.
    At this stage (until King Charles changes it) princes and princess are children of the monarch, male line grandchildren (in other words children of princes, but not princesses, remembering that traditionally one takes their father's name, so if a princess marries a commoner, her children are commoners like Princesses Margaret and Anne, both children of monarchs. The only great-grandchildren of monarch that get to be princes and princesses are the children of the eldest son (though this may have changed to eldest child now) of the Prince of Wales. That's why William's children are princes and princess. Once Prince George has children, they will be entitled to titles, but his siblings won't be until their father becomes king

      Phillipa Pay £1000 in 1942 is the equivalent of millions today, she wasn't poverty stricken
      she'd also got some fabulous jewels of her own
      and the public purse is for those working royals born into the house of windsor
      and the royal family are not worth billions, the palaces, windsor castle and a lot of the i royal collection
      are NOT personally owned by them, they are "owned IN RIGHT OF THE CROWN" which means because
      they are the Monarch, they actually belong to the nation
      the Monarch is worth over £400 million,
      but as she couldn't be officially be part of the public purse, which is only certain expenses covered as a working royal, they don't receive any cash and that is what stopped when Prince George, Duke of Kent
      died, but as it couldn't covered by what is now the sovereign grant. the Monarch covered it

I recently read that their portfolio of land, art, jewels, stocks, bonds, etc., aside of what is owned by the British people, is, in fact, worth something like $98 billion.
