Rob is one of the few guitarists I can claim I was influenced by. He wrote some of the best riffs out there and, while playing crazy leads, he always had an amazing tone.

Stagnant is one of the underrated songs in all of metal. And the organizations first album is hands down one of the best rock records ever recorded.

I remember hearing about the RV Crash and we already had tickets to see DA at The Omni in Oakland, they were ending the Act3 tour there, we were driving up to the club and on the marquee read Get Well Andy, Dennis and Mark (on crutches) we’re there and played room with a view and veil of deception (den on acoustic) forbidden played that night Kirk Hammett , Jason newsted it was an emotional night, an unforgettable night❤️

I wish I could hear the demos from ACT III writing session which doesn't make it on the record and a live CD from the Act III tour (Dynamo 1990???).
I adore Act III. Everyone did perfect. Not a single displaced note on that record. Awesome production and I really love the drumming by Andy Galeon. Perfect mix of swing and groove plus an organic drum sound which I really miss these days. When I bought the record back in 1990 I was so quite sure this is the next big thing.
I forgot to mention the vocal harmonies, so awesome!

Brotha you said it all… Act III was my favorite album it was so ahead of its time when it came out too!

I remember how blown away I was when Act III came out. I had no idea Geffen made them write so many songs before pinning down the ones for the album. It must've been frustrating, but damn, it turned out killer!

Rob's right-hand owns. Leads so tight and rhythms that crush balls when he pedals that low E. Always impressed with his musicianship. Ultra-Violence will always remain in my Top 5. Keep it heavy, Rob! !⛧🤘

Rob wrote some killer shit as a youngster, Voracious Souls is full of kick ass riffs. I always loved the little breakdown after the solo. 🤘

Thanks for the details about the accident. I hadn't heard it before. I was at UCD and made friends with another metal guy that was supposed to take me to a party with Death Angel. He said he was related to the guys in the band and could introduce me. I had all the albums. I didn't know that the live album wasn't authorized by the band yet. Then a couple weeks later the accident happened and he said the party was cancelled. I wish I could remember his name. I noticed him because he played Somewhere in Time blasting out his dorm window. Yeah, major bummer at the time. I saw the reunion at the Thrash of the Titans show. Amazing 13 hour show. I thought it was a one-off for Death Angel but I'm glad we got more. :)

I had chills when Rob recounted the bus accident. Poor Andy, I remember hearing it was a miracle he survived. I saw Death Angel with Forbidden earlier that year and the show was epic. I was also bummed they had to pull out of the US Tour for Clash of the Titans.

The Ultra Violence was a landmark Bay Area Trash album. It was supercharged mayhem!!! And the live performances were stellar, and tight as fxck. They had such a distinct sound. Badass.

am I crazy, or does anyone else remember when, around the time Act III came out, and they started to go by "D.A.", Rob sort of dissing " the Ultra Violence"?

"We were getting better at writing".
Not really. The 2nd album is much better than that MTV thing, that heavy metal ballad thing they did for the 3rd one.

I've always said amongst many others that Death Angel would of been as Big as Metallica if they never had their mishaps and unfortunate accident that caused them to break up the first time, they would of been big time they're that good!! It was supposed to be Death Angel instead of Alice In Chains on that Clash Of The Titans Tour.
