@@tatiana4050comics have always been “woke” weather it be Wonder Woman being on the cover of the first issue of the justice league in 1960 with batman and Superman not even being on the cover or superman himself being and immigrant and an allegory for Moses
Minor nitpick but Claremont didn’t create the X-Men. He reinvented them for new readers in a new decade, but the original ‘63 lineup was written by Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby.
The new Hawkeye is also like a younger character so of course they’re not going to be polite to authority figures. Captain America is THE authority figure. He’s literally the embodiment of it. @@Tenshii_Artii I couldn’t find much describing why but one of the creators, Lily said “‘the corporate world wasn't ready’ for an allegory - a story that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning - about transgender people.” It’s also been a while since I watched it, so I couldn’t tell you fully
hey its not a trans allegory, that waters down what the matrix is about. there is obviously transness rooted in the story but it wasn't written as a trans allegory, Lilly confirmed that the interview was misleading and she had meant to express how looking back on the work she can see how her and her sisters closeted transness contributed to the story and affected how it was written. it can be read as a trans allegory but it was not written with the purpose of being one (all positive vibes, i'm trans and the matrix is my special interest, i'd yap for ages about it)

I can’t thank you enough for being on the side of women, I think it’s so important for men to speak about the atrocities that some straight men commit and some of the terrible things women have to experience as unfortunately sometimes if it comes out of a woman’s mouth then they’re considered a man hater or gaslit or such. It really means a lot.
The fact we need a 38 minute video to simply explain don’t discriminate against people is really sad. Anyway I really liked the part about picking an ideology, not a side, reminds me of the quote “great minds think alike, but fools rarely differ” meaning you shouldn’t just agree with everyone who has the same opinion as you (the first bit being having the same opinion, the second being why, you can have the same opinion and still have a bad reason for that opinion)…
honestly, thank you for the first topic being about people getting upset at an Indigenous hawkeye (I mean,,, it makes more sense that way). I have seen a lot of anti-Indigenous rhetoric popping up again, and no one talks about it. no one talks about how people push Indigenous people aside and we can't complain about OUR OWN LAND being stolen. thank you in general talking about how racist most "red pilled" individuals are. That's another thing people don't talk about. They don't want to admit what they are.
It’s kind of how white America hates to hear black Americans bring up slavery because “it was so long ago, nobody who was enslaved is still alive” as if the ground work of American wasn’t built on chattel slavery and still effects the major economic and political infrastructure of the U.S.. Some people genuinely don’t know a thing about history, civics, etc and so they think because things like chattel slavery or racial genocide isn’t actively the case in the U.S. that it doesn’t effect these marginalized communities involved. It’s like an avoidance of guilt when it would be a lot easier to not feel guilty for ancestral crimes if we actually focused on acknowledging the past and reforming the present.
28:24 WHAT? This girl angers me. These types of people anger me. They act like voting isn’t independent and everyone should be the same. At this point America, the country of the ‘free’, doesn’t allow anyone to BE free. Because once you’re a bit different, you’re automatically stripped of an opinion. Why do people care so much about what other people go through? Men shouldn’t be allowed to vote for things that don’t affect them. Abortion, I can’t speak on because I haven’t been in a situation where I needed one, but it doesn’t matter if you think it’s wrong or right, if it’s someone else doing it. Some people don’t like smoking or drinking because of the effects they cause, yet they aren’t going to BAN alcohol and cigarettes. Abortion shouldn’t be something people have to outlaw because they PERSONALLY think it’s wrong. I get that it’s really a religious thing but even then, god says in the Bible that ‘your body is a temple’ and it’s a sin to deteriorate it, so if a woman is on the verge of death because of a child that she didn’t consent to have, does it really matter if abortion is wrong? That FETUS can’t think or do anything for itself so why. Do. They. Care?
It's not even a religious thing. They pretend it is, but in the bible god both advocates for abortion, he even gives explicit instructions on how to terminate a pregnancy in cases of suspected adultery. The bible also says that life begins when god grants the baby a soul at its first breath, in other words, until birth it's not a human according to the bible
If the video game guy is saying women of colour can't lead a regimen, wait until he learns about the actual Amazons (but he'll be relieved to learn that 'Scyths' is almost pronounced as 'cis', I guess).
34:42 that’s part of the problem. The lack of education. The killing off of critical thinking and what was innate human curiosity for factual information and not what supports their projections of hate stemming from their unhealed, unsupported brokenness. We thrive when we are treated well…that’s not available to everyone. We thrive when we’ve healed from our traumas and have found ourselves in safe spaces…but that’s not accessible to everyone or even known to exist to everyone.
17:44 first issue, he thinks being trans is a mental illness. Second issue, he thinks it's jolly good fun to laugh at people struggling with mental illness.
The irony is they use the red pill analogy backwards from what it was in the movie. When Neo takes the red pill, he “wakes up” , in other words , he becomes woke.
I'm a tiny bit late, but I'd like to point out that non-binary people can use he/him pronouns. "Non-binary" just describes someone who identifies outside of the male/female gender binary, so it includes a lot of different gender identities. Most non-binary people use they/them pronouns, but I know a lot of non-binary people who use pronouns other than they/them.
While this is true, Charli does go by they/them pronouns. The person making the original video was purposely trying to disrespect NB people by continuing to use he/him pronouns. I understand that you’re not trying to say it’s okay what the original creator did, I just wanted to add on to it.
21:12 so, this person keeps talking about themself as being trans. Either they cosplayed too long, or, this is a Sister who is so deep in the closet that she felt the only way she could ever experience that was by "infiltrating" and then seeking male validation it was ok cus it was a "mission." Either way, spreading harmful rhetoric is never ok even if it seems like a sisters only way to have a girl moment.
From a character design perspective: if you have to design dozens of characters, don’t you want them all to look different? Wouldn’t it be incredibly boring to just make like 50 different white men? There’s only so many different features you can give them. “Ok so this one will have brown hair, this one will have blonde hair, this one will have no hair…. Uhhhh… ooh! This one will have a scar across his face! …. This one will have… a different scar?” Like it would be way more interesting to create characters that actually look different from each other
6:25 in this case, it’s true, but non binary people don’t always use they/them or neopronouns. sometimes they use she or he but still do not identify as binary, so no. it’s not “obviously incorrect.”
this! i’m an nonbinary person who uses she/he/they. pronouns don’t equal gender and regardless of what pronouns someone uses they are still the gender they say they are ^_^
i'm not non-binary, but was at one point questioning my identity, so i can say from experience that saying stuff like "calling a non-binary person he is obviously wrong" can be very harmful, since it can scare someone who's comfortable with he/she pronouns away from something that could be right for them but seem too extreme because of such misinformation.

@@exhausted6137 I don’t know why you are being rude, all I did was try to inform you. I completely agree with your statement, it’s simply that that term does not fit the situation. Hi, indigenous person of the ojibwe tribe! New hawkeye honestly looks really cool! Also don't blame Hawkeye for being frustrated at people assuming things. I think the sparky comment could lead to some character growth for them, not that they need to suddenly love America, just saying it could be nice for them to trust someone and learn that not every white person is an ignorant ass, yk? Very happy to see a not stereotypical indigenous character.
their design is genuinely so cool, always happy to see more rep in comics tbh i'll definitely give their issues a read :D

I don't think that he thinks they're evil because they were kind I think he thinks it's evil because anybody can pretend to be part of the community and do harm to actual trans people for actual people that experience that life and as you can see politically it also does harm to normal everyday Joe's

This is why Stan Lee & Chris Claremont created the X-Men 💀to make a commentary on how society ostracizes minorities- Prof. X was based heavily on MLK and Magneto was heavily influenced by Malcom X- the comics were rlly ‘woke’ for their time and i feel like that’s a common theme in the x-men 💀💀💀 (5:33)
Loads of sci fi was woke for its times. Only now it stays more in the box.
That’s kind of hard to believe when the group literally has the word ‘men’ in it lol

The new Hawkeye is also like a younger character so of course they’re not going to be polite to authority figures. Captain America is THE authority figure. He’s literally the embodiment of it. I think them being ‘disrespectful’ to an old man who embodies patriotism for a country that took their culture and ancestors from them is… pretty understandable???
I thought the little quip they made to him was funny lol. And I'm white. I love watching this country's internalized racist rhetoric get challenged.

hey its not a trans allegory, that waters down what the matrix is about. there is obviously transness rooted in the story but it wasn't written as a trans allegory, Lilly confirmed that the interview was misleading and she had meant to express how looking back on the work she can see how her and her sisters closeted transness contributed to the story and affected how it was written. it can be read as a trans allegory but it was not written with the purpose of being one (all positive vibes, i'm trans and the matrix is my special interest, i'd yap for ages about it)

Do. They. Care?

Either way, spreading harmful rhetoric is never ok even if it seems like a sisters only way to have a girl moment.
