FA In 1933 ..... these were Men amongst men. Just amazing to consider the equipment & gear used at the time

@@lucaa4480 .... Of course it is. This route is 90 years old..... The changes in gear, technique & ethics is literally from a different century. From chrome moly pitons to spring loaded passive cams, from Kernmantel Ropes to Sticky Rubber shoes, from Ultralight Carabiners to carbonate of magnesium, etc, etc.... and yet a route that is almost 100 years old is still to be respected. The Men of this era were built of sterner stuff

Did the sister route , the Cassin on Cima ovest in 1966 as our second route in the Dolomites. In the following years we never did the Comici because we considered it too easy and aid climbing. Then in 2000 my brother and I did the Comici as a FREE route and found it a fantastic route. Never desperate but the first 8 pitches are consistently gently overhanging with spectacular situations.

Interesting I did the Comici the same year 1966 in May when were you there? Lothar Brandler was making a film and Denny Moorhouse was helping him ...Leo

I think those ascents in the 1930s were quite remarkable. A Golden age, not likely to ever be surpassed imo.

Lots of pegs here that the sensible will clip. Time the BMC set up a piton fund for the UK.
