Thank you for the good advice, as a petite lady from Australia, I started bouldering without knowing what to expect. I have learnt a lot from watching U tube videos like yours. So once I fully recover from a horrible cough and the weather gets warmer, I will get to a bouldering gym and start again.

Trying problems that you think might be impossible is a way to progress pretty fast. Been climbing a little with my brother since December last year. And now consistently doing 6A's and above. Completed my first 6c+ alongside my brother. Took 2-3 times of coming back to the gym and finally got it 🙏🙏

I get a lot of help from your videos. Something I very rarely see discussed, probably because it's not very visually appealing, but is very important is how much rest time and how to use it between send attempts.

  • @deschain1910

For tip #2, I'd just say that I agree but maybe after you've been climbing for a bit already. My natural inclination was to do this when I first started out (try to climb things as hard as I could), but very quickly my skill and muscle strength were overtaking my skin and tendon conditioning because I was (and still am) basically a beginner, and I don't know if this is common but my skin and tendons were definitely lagging behind the rest of my conditioning. So I had to dial down the grades that I was attempting just for a while until my conditioning could catch up.
What I'm doing currently is limiting myself to nothing above a V2 unless they're higher grade due to technique only rather than just bad holds...
Not saying it's wrong, just something to keep in mind for beginner climbers if they run into a similar issue.

agree, and would add that especially for heavier guys/gals a slower approach might be advisable.

@@TarabulusI’m realizing this as a 95kg climber in my first 6 months, my fingers really HURT after a good/longer session.

  • @Fallenangel_85
    @Fallenangel_85 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I think for the part about "pushing your limits" it's also about learning to find out what is just hard and what's impossible because of lack of strength.
For example by trying each position. Can you hold the individual positions? Then you can finish the climb with enough work, it's that simple.
I also can't recommend too hard projecting for beginners. The skin, the tendons etc. all take a lot of time to devlop. Technique also tends to take some time to develop, as does precision. So it might be better to focus on a climb you can do but do it well.
If you have good technique and higher precision you're less likely to wear off your skin early or injure yourself.
There is also a funny thing to consider, which is very easy to do. If the first move feels hard the way you do it, try crossing your hands or even your feet.
Especially on slaps that make foot swaps impossible this might help you do something you otherwise wouldn't be able to do.

Climbing a year now. Recently i started trying two grades above my skill level towards the end of my session. I enjoy the mental challenge but its sooo satisfying to hit a move/position after like 30 attempts over a few weeks. Pretty cool

Hard projecting is definitively something I should incorporate more.
Don't think strength is my main problem (directly), but me being on the heavier side puts a lot strain on my feet, and makes friction a challenge in some cases.
Technique is always the main challenge though😅
