GM Truck Cluster Dead Tachometer or Speedometer Not The Stepper Motor

This video applies to 2003 to 2007 GM Truck Clusters Such as Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Hummer. I show the repair of a cluster that had a dead Speedo and Tacho buth the stepper motors where not the issue. It also was not the stepper driver or traces.

I need help with mine. Dead speedo replaced the motor on board same thing. I can command it with my scan tool. And also have vehicle speed on scan tool.

Hello, I'm having an inop tachometer (completely dead) and so far i've confirmed that the signal is making it to the IPC correctly. After replacing the stepper motor it seems it's something similar to what's going on in this video, where can I find replacement parts outside of the steppers? I'm very new to this, but want to figure it all out myself, at this point I've spent 3x in various tools compared to just sending it in to get replaced, so it isn't to save money, more just to learn. But anywho, I think you're the guy with all of the knowledge I need. I assume I'll need to order an oscilloscope and signal generator, but then those are defective resistor and capacitor you're finding? I can't find these parts online anywhere.

I have a 1998 Camaro board where the speedo is reading much faster than it should. It seams the faster the car is going the more off the speedometer becomes. Ex. @ 30 mph it reads 15 mph fast but @ 60 it almost 30 mph fast. I replaced the stepper motor and same thing. Scan tool reads correct mph. Any ideas? Im thinking a resistor or ic maybe?

Sounds like it's tuned for a different tire size or gear ratio since it's on a curve. If it was a stepper motor or IC it would be linear

How do you fix a completely dead cluster ?

Depends on what's exactly is causing it to be dead. If you want to send it in for repair I can take care of it.

Why not replacing the caps with new ones? You could measure the value from a working board, couldn't you?

Without a high end lcr meter I can't get close to exact value. I could use a universal parts tester to get a in the ball park range. Then you still wouldn't know the voltage rating. You could guess that since that circuit normally goes to 12v volts that it would 20 volts. Having seen some GM designs before I know they really over rate stuff so the cap is actually 50v rated I bet.
Really ceramic capacitors last so long I wouldn't stress about swapping off a parts board. That would be like stressing over the voltage regulators.
Just don't reuse electrolytic caps, bulbs or inrush current limiters. Those things all wear too much to be worth reuse.

Actually on that side of the resistor it only went to 5v so it was probably rated 10v to 20v
