  • Well here it is. I hope you benefit from this video. I likely won't do it again for 1400 miles or so.
    It's hard to believe that the chain go so dirty in just 5 months or 600 miles of street riding.
    I need to find an easier way to clean and oil the chain.
    Please do not attempt working on your bike if you are unsure of yourself and have a shop work on it for you.

    Thanks so much for this follow up review and letting us come along on the tune up. I recently bought the loop after doing a lot of research which would be the most suitable bike for me to use to ride to work and also fit onto city transit (all your videos on the Loop being INCREDIBLY resourceful) Your tune up has inspired me to learn more about how to maintain the bike when it arrives.
    On a side note, this video was bittersweet to watch for me. My late father in law was a huge bike enthusiast-- he was very active but loved biking in particular. While researching the bike I got emotional at times because I wished I could just go to him for advice or get his thoughts on what I was looking at. I also had moments realizing that had he still been around he probably would have been more than excited to teach me how to maintain the bike-- just as you've shown in this video. Your demeanor kind of reminds me of him, too, so i felt I kind of got a small glimpse into what it might've been like had he done so (dad jokes included!). Especially how you talked about stationary bikes being "BORING!" was also very him. So, thanks for kind of filling in a role that you probably didn't intend to fill with this video. Wishing you more miles of happy rides!

      Wow! I kid you not, every time if feel like quitting YT, I get a great comment. No YT retirement for me yet. Haha. Anyways, here is an FYI for you. I had replaced the rear wheel spokes because I guess I am just too heavy for it. Schwinn has been gracious about it and sent me a third wheel. A bike shop replaced the spokes on the new wheel and because they are about 75% bigger, I have hope. I weigh in at 295 and am 6' tall. There is no rating listed, and the bike is as strong as ever. The weak point is the spokes. I wish I could find a Mag wheel for it. That would fix it. I'm pushing 70yrs and still quite strong but have to get this stupid weight off. I should weigh 240 according to my doc. The Loop is my only hope since sciatic issue won't let me walk or run. This is my fav bike of all time.
      Please let me know what you think of it when you get yours. I intend to do a 2k mile review, if it makes it. Almost have 1500 now. Winter has kept me off the streets, but it's warming up now.
      Thanks, Slothpunch for the great comment. I am reenergized again.

      @@Mity_Moose I'm so glad Please don't ever quit YT! These follow up reviews have been so helpful, even after purchase. Mine arrived yesterday and I'm already returning to rewatch the video because I found that the brakes were clamped completely shut against the rim, so it can't actually ride. I have no idea how to deal with that problem. I am returning to this video to see if there were any pointers you gave for how to adjust that (if not, I will be finding another video or taking it to neighborhood bike shop for tune up/ inspection). It's really good to hear that the bike is still working out for you! That instills a lot of confidence that I made the right choice. I was really impressed that Schwinn offered to replace the wheel in your third video. But, Yeah, mag wheel would be nice, I bet. I've also been seeing how other folks have been mod-ing their loops with better parts-- it's really good to see how customizable this bike can be if someone wanted to make it truly their own based on their needs (someone I saw even converted theirs into a DIY electric bike, which is wild!). Thanks again.

    I've had my Loop for about 2 months now. I bought it to commute to work (2 miles, Pasadena, CA). It's a great bike for my 18 minute ride. I think I may need to adjust the brakes, but all else is great. My 17 year-old daughter loved mine so much that we bought another for her. Now my wife is interested in having her own. Thanks the the in-depth video on maintenance. I most likely won't attempt such a detailed cleaning, but I will consider some of the more simple tasks. Please post more vids on maintaining the Schwinn Loop. Really appreciate it.

      Thank you sooooo much for sharing this. It does my heart good. I was going to wait till 3k miles for the next one, but I think I may need a back tire before that. And, when I have to pull the back wheel again, I may as well attempt to properly grease the other bearing which I simply sprayed grease at. Thank you, thank you. MM

    I bought this bike a few years ago for $250. Now it's $450. I hated the thing. It was very heavy, a pain to fold, and very, very slow. The chainring is small and even in top gear it was as slow as a turtle.

    • @Mity_Moose
      @Mity_Moose  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @davidhunternyc1
      @davidhunternyc1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mity_Moose Yes, I can see why people would like it if you had a garage and used it to putz around the neighborhood. The fold is good to have for when you need to put it in the car for occasional weekend getaways. But for long rides, more than a couple of miles, no way. Too many other great bikes. People buy the Loop because of the nostalgia of the Schwinn name and because it's cute, which it is. I had one only because my roommate insisted she have one. I can't argue with that! Now, however, for $450, people would be foolish to buy one. There are many superior step-throughs on Craigslist that have just as cute and far faster.

    To fix the wobble on your time, take it to a bike shop and have them trued. It happens over time naturally on bikes. Its a cheap and easy fix. Also, yes it could be your derailleur causing the chain to get stuck; but also, have you cleaned your chain with bike chain cleaner, lubed your chain, or do you need to replace your chain? All of theses things can make your chain and derallier act out of wack. By 600 miles, your chain is pretty much toast. I would replace it.

    I'm considering one o these. I'm a 67 year old cancer survivor with one bad knee. I am riding my single speed flat bar road bike with 700C tires, but the single speed is tough on me. If was no problem before the two health issues, but it is now. I would hope that the gearing on this bike would give me at least two or three gears that are lower than my single speed to climbing hills, and have some higher gears too. I average about 11-12 mph on my current bike. It is a 2.66 gear ratio.

    • @Mity_Moose
      @Mity_Moose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes-sir Jon! This has 7 perfectly ranged gears. Gear 1 is so low that you will be super pedaling to hit 4mph. I'm not much for hills, but this gear is super. I can't say much for the top speed on 7 because I top out at 14, and it feels dangerous. It's a commuter which meets my needs perfect. I am 1 yr your younger, so I understand. Let me know what you decide. Thanks MM

  • @selliri590
    @selliri590 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should replace the chain anually or else it will wear on all the gears and make you need a new freewheel and derailleur. Chains are cheap just look for a 7 speed chain

    • @Mity_Moose
      @Mity_Moose  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know... I thought the same thing, but it seems the bike enthusiasts here have a differing opinion since they ride 10s of thousands of miles. But the Loop is not a long range rider, and with my weight, the chain and gears get a work out. Especially with only 20 inch wheels. Thanks for the input.

    Hi there, i was wondering how this bike is holding up? Im thinking about purchasing this partiucular bike and I was wondering if this thing would last forever! Can you take this bike off roading(nothing hardcore)?

    • @Mity_Moose
      @Mity_Moose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am turning 1k miles this week, have 991. I think it will last for ever and ever. It is not stable enough for off road. might do okay on gravel camp ground roads. I have it for the exercise it delivers. If I wanted to go off road, fast, or much further, I would get a 26in cruiser. But I am just trying to keep in some form of shape. Sciatica will not let me walk, so its biking only, and this bike is a perfect workout for me. I do not like riding in place in doors, yuk. Hope that help, Kingo.

    I just got a schwinn loop! everything is great, except when I pedal with some force (going uphill or standing pedaling) the chain will occasionally skip/slip. I tried readjusting the rear derailleur, but that didn't fix it; the derailleur performs fine when I'm tuning it (upside down like you are in this video) - it only slips/skips when I am pedaling hard. Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix it?

      Sounds like a worn out chain that is too stretched. Use a chain wear tool to confirm if the chain is too worn out. If so, the solution is simple.... get a new chain.
