Springfield doesn't seem to have a canon real life state, but all the evidence I've been thumbing through makes it obvious that The Simpsons live in a fictional state. Then again I am going off of a page that's calling jokes canon.
This was one of those episodes that really resonated with me as a kid, I love how accessible Simpsons was to both kids and adults, even if a few episodes went over our stupid children brains

Looks like 28 residents of Shelbyville have seen this. This was a great episode. I always liked the different comparisons... -Apu at Kwik-E-Mart, the other Apu like guy at Speedy Mart -Moe at Moe's Tavern, Joe at Joe's Tavern -Groundskeeper Willie at Springfield Elementary, female groundskeeper (who someone told me was named Wilma) at Shelbyville Elementary Then of course you have Bart & Milhouse of Springfield & then the kid I call Anti-Bart & the other Milhouse of Shelbyville.
There were (at least) 5 episodes of the 25 from season 6 that I'd say were top 10 all time episodes. I'm pretty sure it ended on the cliffhanger 'who shot Mr. Burns?'...season 6 is definitely my favorite. Dang...I wish I was as cool as the guy above me though...making fun of people online discussing a show they like. I bet he gets all the chicks...
