You're so right. You can tell he didn't really even care much about comedy for this bit. Just cold, blunt truth. There should have been way more silence here.

You beat me to exactly what I was going to say, a week and a day beforehand. Any of his material that I've seen, he has always had his finger on the pulse. Is his language coarse? Yes, of course. It's for good reason. He's trying to get our attention.
That ending line, “the owners of this country know the truth, it’s called the American dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.” Is such a stark reminder of how little has changed since this was filmed. So many people still believe it’s an equal playing field. It isn’t. And it’s not divided by race or religion or ethnicity, it’s divided by those with power and those with none.

Its the same old class conflict that has always been there since the dawn of capitalism. There are definetly divisions of race and ethnicity but they are byproducts of the capitalist system.
One of George's real talents was exactly what you point out. Getting the crowd laughing, and having a good time, and then he would turn to the real point he was making. He always had a real underlying message. Chappelle reminds me a lot of George in that way. And everything he said is not only still relevant, it's actually worse now than it was then. We don't even go to the mall anymore. Now we just sit at home and have all the stupid shit we don't need delivered to us.
Britt, I am so glad that in your more recent George Carlin reaction videos you don't censor out all the jokes but you actually allow us to share the laughter with you! I think it's so much better to laugh together than to laugh alone. Sometimes humor is the only way to impart some of the deepest wisdom.
George Carlin is an incredible talent, observant, and brilliant. He was a wordsmith, a philosopher, a prophet, and a teacher. I've loved him since I first heard his 'Fussy Eater' bit on Dr. Demento when I was 12 (back in 1982!) and have been a huge fan my whole life. He was the GOAT! The sad thing is, as you said, every single word is still relevant.
Hi all, greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Big fan of the great George Carlin, the guy was ahead of his time.Really loved the honest reaction too.looking forward to following you,on your journey.Best wishes 😀
7:14 Good luck finding a Mall. I live in Dallas, Texas. Not far from my house is Red Bird Mall. In early 2000 it was bought and they changed the name to SW Center. Withing a year the mall population dropped by half. Stores and Customers simply stopped coming. The locals got mad because they lived their for the Mall and petitioned to change the name of the mall back. And they won but such a small victory. 1/3 of the mall is still operational. The Food Court is gone. The Movie theatre is gone. A massive amount of shops are boarded up (with plywood). Even the Mall walkers are gone. I used to hike to the Mall every weekend now I just shop online. R.I.P. Red Bird Mall, you got me many dates.
Absolute comedy legend right there! Growing up in the 80's, I listened to George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy. In the 90's it was Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, David Spade, & Dennis Miller. In the 2000's It's Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Daniel Tosh, & Jo Koy.
Carlin has been around a long time. There's an old one where he talks about stuff, your stuff, and you take some of your stuff with you on vacation, and when someone invites you over to another island while on vacation, you have to choose which of your stuff to take with you. I also love his "saving the planet" one. Go look them up! If you haven't already, that is.
George...telling it like it is. People like this are sorely needed in today's 'yes sir, I apologise' world. We don't need apologisers, we need people capable of standing up and yellin "F YOU!!'
Britt, George started this skit over the top. But when he came back to the reality of of the times, he really hit home. Everything he touched on had already taken form 40 years before Carlin did this show. The Great American Lie!
Funny, I actually have a similar musical notes tattoo and at the same spot, but it's on my left hand. I made it back in 2010 when I played piano and guitar. Sometimes I miss playing an instrument...
george carlin was the master of observational comedy, seeing society for what it is and comedically tearing away its veneer for all to see... he wasn't just a comedian, he was a comedic philosopher, he made you have to think about it, in a way you probably hadn't before. if you really want a culture shock, watch the tv show, "all in the family" (if you haven't seen it already), 50 years later, same problems... it also explains why george carlin's comedy connects with young teens to elderly alike, and likely will long into the future.
Well he is definitely painting a pretty vivid picture here and i would lie if i'd say i havent seen that. I think for some people it is healthy to be reminded of reality even if it is painful in the moment. Because only if you are reminded of it will you ever be able to make some changes. You can't deny that it is favorable to be almost anything but the things he described.
Back in the 70's, writer Kurt Vonnegut gave a college commencement adress where he said, "Things are going to become unimaginably worse and they are never ever going to get better."
when other comedians mention who inspired them to become comedians, one name is always mentioned and that name is Carlin. he transcended from a mere comedian to become legend.
As horrible as it may feel and as horrible as he may seem. Nope. Facts. He's a brave mofo. BRAVE. We are owned. It stings to hear his words because there is no denying its truth. Yes!!!! @ Brittreacts LEGEND. TRUE LEGEND!!
I was too far away to go to the mall with my friends. But I used to love going with my grandma. I never knew when were going. We'd get in the car like we usually did to go grab lunch, and the next thing I knew, we'd be driving right past the local McD's headed to the mall 20min away.
I've been watching Britt react to almost all the George Carlin stuff since last night because he is, was, and always will be my favorite comedian and I have to say I wasn't going to but I got to, when Britt TRYS to hold in her laugh and turns into a Blowfish it is so fucking adorable lol
I love the malls. Unlike Amazon they actually pay their employees a decent wage and have unions. No, they wont' get rich, but then amazon had 19000 cases of covid. Malls are great, not like when I was young, but I can actually see stuff before I buy it, don't have to worry about getting the wrong size or when it will be delivered and by whom. Do yourselves a favor, don't buy from Amazon, get out in the real world and see what it's like to do some great old window shopping again. Let that sorry amazon go out of business and do the world a favor.
You should really check out Volker Pispers. He is a German Kabarettist and much alike. He finally gave up his job because the peoples so politics refused to change and he didn’t see the point of showing people the truth anymore. He was more political than anything else. Best we had in Germany

Bo Burnham is another comedian in the same vein...he'll get you chuckling with a funny tune, then hit you with a bunch of existential questions...
Bill burr is the modern day Carlin
George Carlin is a legend in EVERYONE'S book. He was a brilliant commentator on societal ills and foibles.
Yup, he was awarded the Mark Twain-prize in 2008 for his social commentaries.
True story
Cutting the swear words out of a Bill burr and George Carlin Vid is like eating a hotdog without ketchup and mustard .
Agreed
Makes no sense.
TH-cam policy change demonetizes videos with swearing now.
It's just how prudish TH-cam's management has become. The algorithms bury anything with swears in them.
Eating a hotdog with ketchup on it is like kicking George Carlin in the shin. While we’re sharing opinions…. :)

No, we men don't talk about it in locker rooms, we talk about it openly in public.. Well, us European men do.

George Carlin was the best. Always on point.
Crazy to realize this was before social media and google AI algorithms and he saw the controlling of information even then.
Greatest Mic Drop of All Time!
George on Saving the Planet 🌎
Truth bomb
GC is a Legend!, and Britt you are a gorgeous lady!
7:00 Don't think any malls are left anymore, Britt.
BrittReacts, this bits -from -90s' time-.
George carlin was the GOAT!
I'd say it's even more relevant today. Rest his soul, what he would have said now, that would have been something.
In Denmark it's not called benefits. It's called RIGHTS though Unions
No cussing from George is like taking the air out of a balloon
