It’s incredible what I’ve accomplished in my short time being sober & I can only imagine what I will accomplish in 10 years being sober I’m extremely excited for this path through the eyes of sobriety!

Day 38 sober from alcohol 33 from nicotine. No we should say it is bad even in moderation as we have established that ethanol is poisonous to all bodies. The brain fog is 90% gone just a spot right between the eyes. Workouts have continued to increase. I got a call that I was accepted for a job (still waiting on a background check so a few extra days off) but instantly in my head. Yeah you got a job!!! go get a victory drink. I said no why undo those 32 good days and worked out a full hour and then went to the store the next day and bought a bicycle as reward for the job, plus a dvd player so I can watch something other than youtube and the news which is horrid content. I finally slept good the last two nights but with a trick, a full banana covered in cinnamon every night 30 minutes before bed; after four nights of this finally slept good after two weeks of horrid sleep. Right now my body does not want sugar or bread which converts to sugar so mostly protein, and have found out how to make home pedialyte for hydration with minerals all day. Those who knew I was stopping both so closely together said up the vitamin intake and I did; I think I can start stepping that back down now. Well time to go shopping for bananas. If this binge drinker can do it; so can you even though it is hard.

Good job Jay had a video for sober october and I was doing well and fell off the bandwagon the hardest I ever did. Now 38 days sober; we have to convince our brain that alcohol is poison to us and that no matter the commercials and shows it is not actually fun; remember their actors making it look fun like posters paid to smile big with a glass in the hand..... so we feel like we need it to be like them. I hurt for two weeks but it gets better hang in there.

Prove to yourself that it's really happening first. I can't tell you how many times I got to day 5, felt better, and convinced myself that I was fine and could have a drink again.
The way I think of it is, you're on your 4th day of school. You should certainly be proud, but still a ways from writing home 😉
Also, sit with that feeling of being scared. look at it from all angles. left, right, top, bottom, the second floor, the roof, Google earth, and ask yourself what you're really scared of?
      is it:
      -the ridicule of peers?
-feeling like you'll be looked down upon for "having a drinking problem?"
-because you're not confident in yourself?
-because you told yourself you'd get sober before but didn't follow through?
all of these reasons are out of FEAR. Stand up and conquer that fear. You can do ANYTHING SOBER except:
      1.drink alcohol
      2.get a DUI
      3.have a hangover
let truth and integrity be the true north of your internal compass

Good work and I agree with realizing how it’s a crutch. It’s almost a goal for many, where doing whatever they are doing be it going to a concert, going golfing, bowling, having thanksgiving dinner, etc, whatever it is they are doing, it’s secondary to drinking.

I never thought I had a problem cause I did not drink before noon....but except for a few days...I've had 2-3 beers and 2-3 glasses of wine every day for 5 years. I still managed to go to the gym (unless I was to hungover) and be functional but I felt foggy until I had a beer.....at parties things would ramp up and I'd over drink and embarrass myself and my wife. Most recently 5 days ago....so the next day I went to AA...I am an alcoholic and I'm taking control of my life.....SOBER. Thanks for everything Jae.

12 days in and feeling better. I've never been a binge drinker but more of day sipper of bourbon. I drank because I just love the taste of bourbon. Thankfully I didn't drink to get drunk and have probably only had two hangovers in the last twenty five years. But I could feel it starting to take a toll on my body (61 now) do I miss sipping my bourbon, yes. I was going through roughly a fifth every three to four days so basically 6 to 7 shots a day but spread out over 12 hours. Like many it was a crutch. I found a process called hard 75 and decided I was going to give it a try. 12 days in 63 to go. Will I drink again after the 75 days, don't know only time will tell. I just know I wanted to give my liver a break, see if helps my skin and the bags under my eyes. Already lost 4lbs as a bonus. Thankfully I've told all my friends what I'm doing and they aren't trying to hinder my success

You’d think at my age I’d have an easier time stopping I did 5 months last year and my mind raced all of the time, I did counselling too , everyone in this society around me drinks moderation is out mmm maybe those guys sitting under a tree on a mountain feel like I do.

I'm 31, about 3 days sober. I can resonate with my standards being lowered over time. Which eventually I just felt like I was comprising myself...and the burning the candle at both ends drinking on work nights and getting like zero sleep plus feeling sick...and this was working as a behavioral health tech! So I felt hypocritical..but yes it's like a constant go.go.go uphill feeling so exhausted and no tlc for myself

Today is day 1. Sick of sipping wine all night. Wanna get off my BP meds. I had a DUI a few years back which cost me about $10,000 for my attorney and all the other stuff. I clipped another vehicle but didn't stop. So as I was almost home I came around as s curve and hit head on into a sheriff. Then backed up and rammed into him again. Bad memories. But I'm gonna be wine free. My faith is my help. Big time. 😊

Starting over again with sobriety. I keep thinking how much easier life would be IF I COULD JUST HAVE THE OCCASIONAL DRINK. But what happens every time is perfectly described in Robin Williams' immortal words, " I keep violating my standards faster than I can lower them! Just one drink to be social; just one toke to feel less anxious..... I would love to say the weed helps, but it actually leads me to drink. It lowers my level of caring for myself. And it cannot be good for my lungs. Otherwise I am so careful about the (substances) food I put into my body, my environment. I need to think of alcohol and cannabis as other forms of pollution that I avoid. Thanks, Jae, for making me think!

Hi, I want to say I hear things from you that make me feel like I'm hearing myself in my own head. It made me start chuckling in the car hearing you on this one. To a T friend. I'm glad i found you. I have been drinking daily for about 13 years. I have had small time frames of sobriety. 9 days, then a 2 or 3 day period dozens of times. In 2020 with my third death of my closest family in a year I quit for 59 days. Day before Thanksgiving I thought " just one night". I then tried again on and off countless times, I managed 19 days then another death. I went to 12 step, I went to a therapist, I got into quit lit, u tube vids, podcasts, working out. All while still drinking. I even tried medicine thru an online doctor. On and on. I got tired of trying. I quit trying. I am back around wanting to be better. Do better. Feel better. Not die sooner than I am meant to. I want to feel happy again just cause I'm OK. Hearing you say, " I tried everything under the sun except just not drinking". Ah ha! Yep. I decided about 5am this morning, up and stressing out and talking to my sister that I just won't drink today. And see where I go. So I found you again, and this video is what I see. Perfect.
You are appreciated beyond words. Thank you. Another day 1 today.

You really do a great job of explaining this stuff. It really is insane that we do this to ourselves but once you get yourself caught up in that cycle it's hell trying to get out of it. I can't say that I've officially had a day without a drink at all yet but I can say I've felt very sober the last couple days with only one drink to keep me from going off the deep end. The benefits of quitting sound amazing but when someone is that dependent they can't see this better reality yet. Anyway, love the content and I'm going to keep trying. Thanks and keep up the good work you're doing here.

I could completely relate to all of this video. What I can't relate to is drinking in moderation; for me, there's only one reason, and it undermines everything good that I'm trying to do for myself. And just like you can't out-exercise a bad diet, you can't make up for this one detrimental behavior with a bunch of good behaviors. But it's like the old entertainers who would spin multiple plates, each on a dowel rod...they always had to start with the first spinning plate. For me, that first plate is sobriety. (Hope that imagery made any sense at all.)

Happy I found your videos Will be watching more. Like you I would spend half my days doing healthy then at 3:30pm start drinking until I went to bed. Thought taking vitamins and milk thistle would save my body until I started to have a pain in my right side which has scared me into quitting. Today is 20 days sober and taking it one day at a time.

I love that! I also thank God for the lessons that I needed to learn. If you think about it, if somebody told you when you were 5 years old, all of the pain, heartache, and trauma that you would go through in your life and ask to feed want to do it, most people would probably say HELL NO.
but here we are, older, wiser, and more experienced to handle life's pleasures and pains with better focus and more appreciation!

Everything I do is either bringing me closer to God and the man I want to be or taking me further away. I get to make the daily and usually hourly choice which man I want to be.

Is poetry an interest of yours? Idk if you know this, but I write all of these episodes over the course of a few days. I conceptualize the topic months in advance. I do some research and some freestyling.
But at any rate, I am very proud of these episodes, especially starting around episode 90 or so.
It takes a lot to make these videos entertaining and educational. and it's just me, so I don't really have anyone to help me with any aspect of the channel really. including the comments 🫡

@@GettingSoberAgain I'm in Melbourne, Australia and we used to have a really amazing slam poetry scene before the pandemic. Sadly it's kind of fizzled out since then because a lot of venues closed.
I wish I had some online content to share from some of those times, but recording people performing was never really a thing. We just listened to people tell their story.
If you don't know the style of poetry and performing, the poet Andrea Gibson is by far one of the best slam poets I've heard. You can see their stuff here:

At my worst I was drinking up to a handle of Vodka a day. Started off with fun weekends with the boys, to here we go again, to I guess, to "ok I'll just drink at home to save money" to spending more money because my drink intake was increasing, to leveling up to a handle of Vodka (yuck) a day, to hospital visits, to a relapse so bad I wound up puking bile and urinating what I can only describe as coca-cola colored. Went again to the hospital and they said my liver enzymes and bilirubin were through the roof and developed a fatty liver. Was hospitalized for about a week where they detoxed me and watched my levels go down everyday until they deemed it was safe for me to leave. After a couple months of taking very good care of myself, eating clean, taking milk thistle daily, vitamins, intermittent fasting, exercising every single day, I went for a checkup and after seeing I lost 50, YES 50! lbs and also my liver was greatly improved, I went to a show and told myself I would take it light on the booze and control myself. That's where in retrospect I realize I lied to myself. I got hammered, and the cycle began again for a week straight into blackouts. Luckily there was a bed available at a rehab near me and I went for another detox. I was shaking like a sad frightened leaf when I went in feeling the withdrawals. Been sober since. Tomorrow will be my one month mark, and I couldn't be happier. This channel is a channel to freedom! Thank you!

@@GettingSoberAgain I was a big boy. Still am, but I tower over my family in height. Weighed in at 375 in the hospital which I never thought I'd hit. All those drunk grubhub nights and stagnation. Sprinkled in some 24hr water fasts weekly and lots of cardio and some weight lifting. The first 30 of water weight and empty calories melted off quick. I turned my addictive personality towards exercise and health in general. I have no desire to go back💪

Best of luck in rehab. Stay strong and focused. I took myself in last month because with the ridiculous amount I was drinking, it would not have been safe to stop drinking without professional/medical help. It will be a bit like boot camp in the sense that they have strict rules and mandatory activities and meetings, but they have medical staff, 3 hots and a cot. They gave me Valium to stop the shakes and prevent seizures. Much better than the alternative, which is possible death. Alcoholism is a massive epidemic as you will see. You will meet many cool relatable and welcoming people from the jump extending a helping hand. You won't be judged. Unfortunately, the facility I went to was infested with bed bugs which made it hard to sleep, and covid was spreading like wildfire so I left after my detox period which was 5 days, but don't let that scare you. Most places take much more precautions. That was my experience. Sober to this day and loving it.
