THESE ARE THE BAGS I STILL LOVE & would still buy in 2024 + the specific reasons they suit *my own tastes.* Since my taste tends to operate outside of the trend cycle….so they are usually lower priced 😉 Chanel Perfect Edge - link.kwshops.net/Pod2yP large chunky chain with top handle, also like the size, this is the smallest size bag that works for my needs and it’s perfect. Will likely be my next big-ticket designer buy! 🖤 Chanel Graphic Catch Shopping bag - link.kwshops.net/GVUzQ7 like the handle detail, generally cool shape 🖤 Chanel CC You Flap - link.kwshops.net/TY2uMJ woven chains with logo hardware on the strap 🖤 Chanel Vintage Timeless Shopping Tote **link.kwshops.net/laPQEQ** 🖤 Chanel Chevron Shopper - link.kwshops.net/PIgEhA I think the double style of this bag is aesthetically cool, and I like the chevron quilting 🖤 Chanel Vintage Diana link.kwshops.net/hnp24W - I have alwaysssss loved this bag! it has similar lines to classic flap range with fewer of the bells and whistles that I didn’t like about the CF design.
🚨Btw - plz refrain from referencing Coco Chanel’s ….ahem…. Political affiliations, I don’t want the algorithms to get the wrong idea over here!!! Thank you 🙏🏽
For me it is the ballet shoes. I am a taller girl and often wear flats. Other brands of ballet slippers do either not fit or not wear well. I have a wider toe box and I had at least 20 pairs of ballet flats that just were not comfortable or were so worn out looking after a month of wear that they sat there. I finally broke down and bought the classic black flats. They are at least 7 years old and still look really good and are mega comfy. I have them now in the classic nude and black combo and a pair in a gorgeous dark pink suede that I received as a gift. I likely won’t spend money to replace them should I need to, mainly because I am nearing a full time remote work life and won’t need to wear them as much. The other items from Chanel don’t necessarily appeal to me.
I briefly owned ballet flats in the late aughts while I was in high school. They’re not flattering on me at all! But they definitely look great on some
Good information. I am a tall "girl" with uber-narrow feet. I don't need a wide anything when it comes to my shoes...the Good Lord gave me skis for feet.
Like the chains, tween, ballet flats, pearls, structured bags, and pink and red. So, Chanel and Dior both work for me. Very feminine and structured. But, I prefer top hand or short shoulder bags. I don't do crossbodies.
Glad they work for you! I too, do not love crossbody. But lately since getting the puppy I’ve been dragged into wearing them- but IM NOT happy about it 🫠
I think you hit a really good point. I've tried so much to like chanel. I had a mini square for two years and wearing it twice before I decided it's just too flahy and not appropriate for my look. I do have a vintage backpack that works perfectly. But would I have purchased it wihtout the logo - not likely.
You said something at the end of the video about not liking the direction all of fashion has been going in but personally I think I might feel that way if I defined fashion only by the big fashion houses. There are so many amazing contemporary designers that are not these old brands, who put out amazing, high quality, innovative and beautiful collections, and I think they’re the ones driving fashion forward.
❤😂 Sorry guys! I only buy it if I can’t stop thinking about it and will use it for at least 5-10 years. Sometimes you have to save up to get stuff. It has to be worth it. I still love my Chanel items and will still buy a few things if they come out in another color I love. Here’s why though: I love to be carefree when getting dressed. My Chanel bags , shoes, & few RTW garments are all neutrals. Black/Gold, Gold/ w/GHW, Beige, and white. They match everything. After 6 years I recently purchased the Hermes Chypre sandals to replace the Chain Slides. I abused them and wore them way too much and you can only tell on the slides in the corner. I prefer to not look so flashy so these are better for some places. I no longer find myself buying budget friendly shoes that get worn down quickly and tossed. I’ve had no issues in quality and avoid most seasonal items except espadrilles, and certain bags. My only frivolous purchase is the Chanel bag umbrella. I justified it by using it on Boys and Jumbos. I love it so much . The simplicity of the quilting is beautiful yet just enough. The chains are like jewelry. I got a tweed phone case today with a pearl and camellia on AliExpress. I was also raised by my Great Grandmother so my taste may have been influenced by this.
that's great that you're able to blend the brand seamlessly into your wardrobe! That's so important. And I love little pieces like that, the frivolity of luxury is my favorite part! That's literally what it's for for me.
I enjoyed the video. You were being honest, and it was refreshing. 🙂 I still have my pair of Black Riding boots from 2004, and the Black Combat boots from 2013. I purchased my last bag in 2015. Those days are over now. 😉
Chanel is probably the only brand that I really like and feel worth to spend on just because it makes me happy. I agree the prices are ridiculous now, but so are all other brands recent years. Having said that, I don't think I will continue to spend like that anymore. Would enjoy what I already have and refocus on paying off my Mortgage for now xx
Totally hear ya, I’ve been a lover of Chanel vintage bags for 20yrs. I’ve reached fatigue point even tough I still admire them. However I still shop their beauty range.
We’re all different and our priorities change. It makes me really sad that they’ve put so much effort into excluding potential customers…rather than fixing or even maintaining quality. THERE I SAID IT 💀
Great video! I agree that ppl should buy what they 💗 and not what is hyped. I 💗Chanel! I am a Chanel girl forever! I 💜 the quilted classic flap and leather woven chains. I color palette and tweed is my thing! I feel the same way about Hermes. It’s just not my thing.
I like the brands woven chain detail, i love the edginess of the boy bag style and loveeeee tweed but styled right , i love ballet flats and they are amazingly flattering on me and i love the style becuase my style is classic with a mix of trends the classicness and history of the brand is a pro but i do prefer the vintage styles of the bags rather than the new ones because of the issues with quality or longevity but the style suits me a lot
Love this topic. I've always disliked Chanel, Hermes etc. I just don't like preppy/grandma/equestrian stuff. I like edgy shapes and things with lots of metal, but exposure to something day in and day out with everyone telling you it iswhat you should be liking can mess with your mind. I think we're just all susceptible to advertising and repeatedly seeing something is a stealth form of that.
Ugh absolutely! It was 40 hrs for like 10 years. I picked up a lot of great info and skills but apparently there were some other ideas mixed in as well 🫠 I’m still trying to figure out what my “style” is but I’ve kind of gotten off of the idea of that being a priority for now. I’m somewhere in between girly and edgy…or maybe on some other planet away from both of those things. Edgy rijngs false on me, but super preppy or feminine is all wrong too 😵💫 Maybe I just don’t have a box
Maybe many people who are willing to buy expensive bags think that this is also an investment, because a very few bags will increase in value, but it is very difficult to really maintain the value of buying the right time, price and style. If you buy wrong, you will lose money *condup*
I agree, there are different kinds of luxury consumers-the ones who are into personal style and design and the ones who are into fashion trends or status. To be fair I do think some people have a so-called “classic” personal style that overlaps heavily with status. But you’re so right that being bombarded with images can sometimes start influencing us.
I know people who own so many really luxury brands, but they live in their mom's house. I own a house, drive a Lexus, and I do buy stuff *condup* to put money in my pocket.
For a long time I thought the Chanel classic flap was my dream bag. I recently started to really take a look at it and realized I don’t even love the quilting that much. I do love that style of bag (especially the woven chain strap), but I have found that style of bag from other brands and now I don’t even care for Chanel anymore. This video put into words what I’ve been feeling. Thank you for this!
Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad it resonated. Like a mother commenter said- I tried so many ways to make it work and eventually I came to realize that it’s just not for me
So, this video may be controversial….but, I have always tried to spread the message of intentionality + reality (from the ground) with these purchases. Luxury is supposed to be a fun hobby, nothing more - and in the last few years the hype around designer bags has spun out of control. And while I do contend that there is a sort of dogma around the Chanel brand, part of my upbringing into the industry just accepted that there was a hierarchy and all these years later, I just want to poke holes and see if that actually needs to be the case. Maybe if we all just buy things for our own taste and needs, more designers will be able to flourish, and just maybe…this will go back to being fun. Just a thought!
I can usually find seasonal bags I like from every era...except now. The Chanel sport line is very cool and both the pink hologram bag and red giant beach tote were from 99-2000
I love this video and appreciate your take. This is how I feel about Hermes it's just not my thing. But I love Chanel. I love tweed for one, I love chains and yellow gold. But the main thing about Chanel is that it always gave feminity. However, I do not agree with the pricing at all. I have one bag and a few perfumes, and it will probably stay that way.
I feel this way about Hermes as well! It really made me question my future in luxury for a while. I hope you enjoy what you have, but there are bound to be bags and other items out on the preloved market hopefully!
traditional or otherwise, it's not for me! One of the factors is that the texture is too similar to my hair, my hair is already a lot. Wearing a matching jacket with sequins would feel ridiculous
Agree on the shoes. I do own ballet slippers and loafers that I love but all that other stuff I can pass. I also don't get the coco chanel worship. But the bags and brooches - I do LOVE. I love the chains, the cc's , the various nuetrals, pinks and reds. Basically everything you hate. 😂 But again- if you look at my closet, there is a pattern there. I buy those colors across the other brands also. It can be a bag from target and I still gravitate to those colors and style. So I just like what I like. Def not buying into popularity. I have a small chanel collection- 3 bags and I still want 2 more that I'm hunting currently on the preloved market to complete it. I can move on with life after that lol.
That’s great that you’re able to establish a pattern with your wardrobe , I can too! But with my collection the Chanels stood out like a sore thumb! (Remember that pink bag? 🫠) Super cool to be opposites and still enjoy in the same hobby though ❤️❤️
I couldn’t agree more. I’ve got a dark red classic flap and a wallet on chain. Do I use them often? No. Why? I feel a bit embarrassed, to be honest. I feel like it’s giving off “trying too hard” vibes. I like the 31 bag though, I might get that one at some point, but I’ve been thinking about it for a year now and not pulled the trigger yet, so who knows.
Great job on this video! I know it took a while for you to pull old footage together and incorporated into this video. I like this topic and appreciate it. I agree with you, Chanel is considered a higher tier, but I don’t know why except for the name. Also, I have had a similar experience with their shoes. I tried on a pair of their ballet flats, and it felt like I was standing on top of wood.I thought why am I going to pay $700 for these shoes that are not padded and uncomfortable when I can pay for a pair of Sam Edelman flats for $200 and they feel 100 times better. I think I still want a vintage or or pre-loved piece from Chanel, but definitely not a classic flap.
you make videos so you know! It was a labor of love lol 100% agree on shoes. But I stopped buying designer shoes a long long time ago (with the exception of preloved on TRR for $200 or less!) Outside of comfort, the styles just look old to me!
I have to be honest and admit I have dreamed of owning a Chanel classic flap for so many years, however their prices have been always crazy when I was able to splurge to justify it, so I haven't bought any. Then with time I realised I didn't want the classic flap, because I liked it, but because it was everywhere on TH-cam as an investment bag and a classic and deeply believed that. I figured out it wasn't the classic flap I liked, it is not my style, the 255 reissue is my vibe and I am hunting one on the preloved market. Regarding shoes, I like some of their ballerinas, I own mainly flat shoes and many are ballerinas. Everything else they sell like tweed, brooches, etc, it is just not my style or taste and as you said it would make me look like an older woman. With having said that, I still don't own any shoes or bags from the brand. The 2 blockers are the ones you showed at the beginning QUALITY & PRICE.
It was the seasonal print from 2008! I believe all of the CFs were a part of it and I've definitely seen Jumbos before! Just a warning, it's perforated lambskin with white fabric underneath. It can be a bit delicate and my WOC had a stain on the flap on the material underneath!
I still have a couple of pieces of costume jewellery. In the 90s, a friend gave me a Chanel necklace which looked good at the time but was such poor quality it literally fell apart within a few years, and I probably only wore it a couple of times. I have to say the Chanel vibe is not me. It’s kind of dull, I don’t dress classic anyway. I feel like people might buy it as a status symbol these days, but I find it quite matronly and boring.
Dull is a great word for it! The costume jewelry has been bad quality for a long time but I noticed a sharp decline about 3 years ago...however, I don't like that it's mostly just the logo lazily slapped on. + I don't like logos on or near my face
Love this topic! I am a Louis girl through and through have been since the 80s I have had 2 Chanel bags a beautiful 2.55 in crinkle metallic grey ruthenium hardware and a beautiful single flap jumbo in crinkle patent black with silver hardware. both bags bought preloved in perfect condition came with the full package so just as if bought from the store really fun bags but where I live there really was no place for me to wear them and like I said Louis is my love so the bags sat in my bag closet looking pretty for years I sold them both and am very okay with that because Chanel is just not my style but because of TH-cam in 2014 I thought I too should have Chanel in my bag rotation. UUUUGGGG not a good choice in the long run.
I can so relate. That gorgeous bronze bag I showed in the video…I ended up wearing to a July4 barbecue 🙈 I too typically have nowhere to go with a truly nice thing. And old LV pieces are way more my speed
Spot on. I do not like Chanel as a brand and will not be caught dead with the cheesy logo. However, I do own one item from them and it’s the classic slingback heels. I like them enough but the quality is mediocre so the slingbacks will be the only item I ever buy from them.
That’s exactly how I feel about Hermes but not for Chanel for some reason. I don’t gravitate towards the classics though because I agree-that stuff looks old lady to me! I tend to like the edgier black/gold seasonal pieces though. Not into all their pastels though-ick!
For me it is the tweed, both chains, and boucle. The jackets are amazing and completely resonates with me. I am a 90s baby and that 90s is completely my vibe. I think 90s Chanel is amazing and unmatched. I agree about the shoes with you though they are mostly a little tacky.
But I’m so glad that the brand resonates with you cause I’m sure it resonates for some people just not everyone, and that’s OK. We all like what we like.❤️
To love Chanel you need to love the mythology and literature. Chanel no5 is the best perfume I’ve ever smelled and i have a collection of 600 bottles and make perfume. Coco has some controversy but the message is what stuck. They’ve turned it into something crazy with these prices. It has always been expensive but it was within reason previously.
Yep, I need more than a cute story. Also, I’m not a perfume wearer, and I specifically don’t like Chanel perfume. Specifically-specifically no.5….i like cool bags and cool products that fit into my life , and taste. Also, I don’t need fashion brands in beauty… but that’s a different video
@@KWSHOPS the story is kind of sad. A orphan turns into a mistress to multiple men that refuse to marry her so she pours her sadness into turning herself into something respectable and made some classic creations that bleed into multiple generations long after her death. It’s haunting
For me, buying Valentino rockstud on 40% sale due to close down kind of scratch the itch. Also taking off the handle makes the bag more modern. Just wanted to share the tip. Omg the Bunny Mac Dougal comment 😂. I agree, tweed kind of ages the impression of the clothe, i also for some reason think of tweed like infested flee and bedbugs sofa and carpet in a worn down hostel ...for me it seems poor, like you needed to use the fabric ment for house inventory, example using old curtains to drag them out for clothing..huff. Also i think the cut and style is from a time when women was very repressed and became bitter after staying home with kids while their man got a career and found a young woman to ditch the mama with...much like in the Netflix series Dirty John and Betty. Betty is very much the kind of women i associate dressing up in Chanel psychological speeking. Strict, bitter, narsistic and trying to be charming....
Whoa whoa ….fighting words with tweed only for old people! 😅😂 too funny but yes I agree with the video mostly I’m just tired of seeing the same same from Chanel it’s like no innovation at all and I feel like Coco would set it on fire if she saw what’s been going on with the brand LOL her early dressmaking clothes were stunning. There’s no way she’d stick to same old same this long. It really should just be a couturier more than a handbag place IMHO.
Chanel novelty bags are my Roman Empire. Am I using the phrase correctly? lol but seriously I’m obsessed. I love the rocket ship, the life preserver, the giant hula hoop bag, the ice cube, and the jerrycan. I just love them. Unfortunately Even if I were rich I’d be too poor for those bags lol There’s something almost gaudy about the Chanel suit, especially the modern versions. As if someone who hated women’s suiting made a suit just to spite the entire idea of it. I Stan lol And the Chanel duffel bag that occasionally makes its rounds around the algorithm calls to me. I have no real use or need for it. I don’t even like duffel bags but I do like THAT duffel bag. 🤷🏾♀️ That’s it tho. I truly don’t understand the classic flap/ boy bag craze.
Wait, I agree! The novelty bags are fun 🤩. But I think I like those bc they’re not meant to be taken seriously…they’re cool and quirky . I really like the video camera version a lot ! ….however, I never understood why they were so expensive
The main character is how they humanize an object and appeal to the customer. People aren’t buying bags. They aren’t buying objects. They’re buying an idea. And a person an icon sells that idea. That’s also why they give classic designs female names. They are appealing to the customer by humanizing an inanimate object.
Interesting! I get that conceptually but I guess I don’t understand why it’s compelling. I buy bags and items for me (with a couple of obvious exceptions) every single time I’ve bought a ‘consensus item’ I felt too conformist, or that it put a spotlight on me that I don’t want.
Ditto. I finally sold all my Chanel. As much as I thought I loved them, nothing works for me. I see guys rocking the bags and it looks fire, I am just not that cool LOL
Omg so relatable! I’ve bought so many bags that I’m just simply not cool enough for! My ombré Givenchy as an example- love looking at it, but I look silly wearing it
It's "grandma chic" but people like these european brands due to 1. These are status symbols to women at the top of the financial/racial caste system 2. Coco Chanel was a somewhat a feminist Icon. Never married/had boytoys and created a brand/perfume when that was hard for women 3.Price and supposed exclusivity 4. History/heritage of the brand
Call me shallow, but I’ve never been intrigued by the actual history of the brands. I figure (and I’m mostly right) that it’s largely just marketing or spin… which is fine, but not a reason to shell out $$$
Love Chanel my favorite brand. I’ve moved into ready to wear it’s fun. Chanel is a classic and always will be. You have to be a classic lady to appreciate it. Love the shoes. So gorgeous on get so many compliments when I’m out. I don’t really buy the bags anymore as I have 12. I’m done. Don’t like the costume jewelry. Or the tweed don’t like their belts.
I agree on tweed but that’s also why I love when brands like Sacai play with it in unexpected ways and make it anti-stuffy. Dislike Chanel’s take on tweed though for sure.
I've seen it done many ways. Idk the texture just bothers me. It looks like arts and crafts or that home insulation material (not sure what it's called) I cut this out for time but, now especially that I wear my hair curly (it was never that straight to begin with!) The fuzzy texture of tweed is just too close to my hair...it makes me feel like a walking fuzzball!
I agree the ready to wear and shoes are wack i always hated their sneakers like how y’all make sneakers ugly 😫😒 I only like the classic flap bags thats it.
Designer sneakers will forever be a waste to me. There’s nothing innovative there at all. I thought the espadrilles were mostly ok on others, but past that-Chanel shoes are a no for me (I have now owned like 3-4 pairs )
I think you would enjoy Dana Thomas’s books about the luxury industry. In her books, she details how the luxury industry moved away from providing luxury goods that are made with the finest materials to luxury goods that represents a history of unassailable quality but often do not live up to the Heritage that they still rely on to market consumers.
I LOVE her books. I’ve read how luxury lost its luster so many times! Another book I’ve started reading is called The End of Fashion by Teri Agins from 1999. I’m about halfway through but the story of how fashion got from A to B from the 70s to the beginning of the 21st century is fascinating
Dana is an excellent reporter! I’m currently reading deluxe. I recently finished her book “Gods & Kings: the rise and fall of Alexander, McQueen and John Galliano” I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well.
One thing I have to disagree with you is that ALL luxury is because of some sort of status symbol. That is the only reason anyone would pay luxury prices for anything.
Thanks for this perspective! I will say that in my own introspection, I made myself realize that no one is actually paying all that much attention to me or what I’m wearing, so I don’t hold the compulsion to try to communicate status.
I don’t hate Chanel but have never been a super big fan. I find most of their stuff fairly redundant and not very innovative. I have one small camera WOC that I like but don’t have plans to add any Chanel any time soon. There are other brands that I much prefer over Chanel.
Thank good I never spend money on anything from Chanel. I liked Lagerfeld, the history of the brand and got sucked into the hype one day… Just could not bring myself to buy something from them bc of some weird feeling a had… years later I realized that I actually never liked the design, just the name. Most stuff is too conservative for my actual (not fantasy) life. Whenever I see the runway models in their early 20s wearing CC head to toe, I think they look like they played dress up in their mothers closet. 😮 Don’t feel that way when seeing other luxury brand‘s runway shows.
But I’m glad to hear that you thought objectively rather than accepting the reputation without question . I definitely liked most of the things I’ve bought and kept, but no more or less than other brands. They’re just not special to me anymore
Thank you for bringing that up. Chanel is effing outdated and impractical in every sense. Kate spade, Micheal kors, Kurt Geiger, guess, and even a brand like saint Laurent do much better products and designs than Chanel and don't get remotely the recognition they deserve, but I am optimistic one day people will wake up and realize they don't want this freaking dated brand any more.
Absolutely!! TBH I still like and appreciate some of the older seasonal styles, but I’m off them being at the top of the hierarchy. They seem to want to be shedding all of us ‘plebes’ anyway, so….
Also I would not necessarily say she was an anti-semite she was in business with 2 Jewish brothers who took MAJORITY stake in her perfume brand that she created she went to the Nazi's because and "enemy of my enemy is my friend" still not giving her any praise but just stating what it is.
I think her true persona has likely been lost to history, but she has been documented as being intolerant, and perhaps not a “girl’s-girl” 👀 More influencer than innovator, perhaps
I mean she was definitely an anti-Semite, she just liked money more than she hated Jewish people. And the Wertheimer family was much better than her at actually selling product.
i think that people romanticize coco chanel and her business acumen. Some or most have never really looked in to her history, As for karl , he was another piece of work, the only plus sizdd women he would dress are the rich . He made that clear when he did some clothes for macys and said he didn't want large women wearing his clothes that is why did not have any plus in the collection. For me all the he saved chanel is odd all he did was keep reinventing what coco ahd done, and some of the things he came up with her just ugly.
Absolutely! They say “never meet your heroes” but I think it’s better to just not create them in the first place. I’m in my shallow season with consuming fashion atm
Hermes is another one we’re expected to like. I did a similar concept video a few months ago th-cam.com/video/eRbBL5gXBKk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uqucDeBVbWQtbXdO
Several of the top brands I just really don’t like. There may be one or two offerings they have that I like but I’m not willing to pay that much for something that I can find elsewhere that I like even more.
I wouldn't say I don't like it but I am just indifferent to Chanel style. I think, the appeal of the brand is its timelessness and perceived value that rich people wear it. I walked away from purchases a few times in the past when the prices weren't so steep, and I don't have any Chanel products because I don't see it matching my style. Hermes bags both look modern at any time, but Chanel looks like stuck in the past of flapper era when rich ladies wore Chanel jackets with pearls and hats for afternoon tea or charitable events at church. Of course you can wear Chanel classic bag with tshirt and jeans, but there is no harmony and style in those looks. Chanel bag looks good only with Chanel jacket and Chanel shoes but the whole Chanel look feels dated and pretentious to me.
I’ve always preferred the seasonal styles to classics. But like I said, I don’t have them on any hierarchy anymore. They’re just another brand, and this is all just stuff. If it suits me, I’ll like it. Maybe I’ll make another purchase eventually but I’m done revering any brand
I find Chanel old lady and grandma….I’m nearly 60 and a literal grandmother! Who brainwashed the masses to convince them that those hideous cap toe sling backs are stylish?
For me, the slingbacks (while still very matronly) are like…ok. For me it’s the ballet flats, sandals, heels, pumps, sneakers…ok everything bc else. I’m blaming them for everything looking orthopedic today as well
Never liked the classic flap. It looks boxy and too stuffy. Looks ugly as a crossbody and as a shoulder bag. I like the WOC but only as a clutch. Chains interwoven with leather tend to be too heavy and give me shoulder pain if I use the bag for hours. I love the turnlock of the reissue, but not the CC clasp. The thing that totally turned me off Chanel was when I saw a TH-camr wearing a giant dangly "CHA" on one ear, and "NEL" on the other. The earrings were huge. It was like she was wearing billboards. It's the tackiest thing I've ever seen and so when I think of the brand, this is the first thing that automatically comes to mind. Maybe someday I'll associate Chanel with something beautiful but only if they design a totally fabulous, incredibly unique bag.
Ugh, my shoes had that awful “‘CHA NEL” 🫣 and they were white tweed. Part of the reason I bought them was that they came in at my old job in * my size* and in my area NOTHING ever came in in my size. Added bonus was that they were a not egregious price (they were white and the toe box was lightly stained) I swiped before I could think. They’re not me at all
@@KWSHOPS shoes aren't as bad as the CHA-NEL earrings because one has to look down to see your shoes. But earrings are near the face. They were inescapable. The fact that the word was split up into two was somehow worse than if both earlobes had sported the Chanel logo.
It is WILD that in 2024 Coco is still considered a positive for the brand. She was not a good person. Knowing who she really was is a big part of why I dislike this brand. I can’t stand that products are named after her and she continues to be celebrated.
Definitely! My taste has changed slightly over the years but not too much. I think what has happened is that I'm done shopping along with the consensus.
Gosh, I feel you, trust me. BUT in furtherance of our own sanity I wouldn’t read that as anything other than being a fellow consumer….and I don’t love or agree with all of our fellow consumers in luxury (by a long shot!) So many people that may share in my interests may not share in my values (or just be general sh*t-heels) but that’s life. If only the ‘right’ type of person can consume this in order for me to feel good about it- then I would have to hand sew my clothes out of tree bark !!! 😂
I have never ever liked Chanel and Hermes. Hermes because I find the bags really boring and ugly. Chanel has never appealed to me and the prices are absolutely ridiculous
Coco was a Nazi but her work was revolutionary. She brought wearing black for women outside of funerals and maids. She retired corsets, and brought masculine details into women’s clothing so we don’t all look like frilly dolls all the time. I like how masculine the quilted leather goods are, especially the leather chain. A chain by itself is not comfortable, a leather strap by itself can look frumpy and boring. The combination is edgy but classic. Also like the tweed jackets for corporate, for a dominant and professional feel that’s not quite like a man’s wool suit. Love pearls, but real ones, so not into Chanel jewelry. I buy pearl/gold jewelry from an actual jeweler still for less than Chanel costume jewelry. Not into the shoes except their classic black toe, but wouldn’t actually pay the insane amounts since shoes wear out. Would maybe buy a pair 2nd hand if come across new condition for a good price.
Not only was she a part of that, but her sentiments around a particular ethnic group I also found very disturbing. But I kind of don’t buy that she is credited with all 20th century fashion innovation. Maybe she was just famous and well placed in higher social circles.
Coco was not the main reason women stopped wearing corsets. There were several other designers that design silhouettes that did not require corsets. However, corsets were still commonly worn for many decades after Chanel introduced the little black dress.
It’s coach and LV that I truly love so much . 💯 I don’t own Chanel. Not sure if it’s truly “me” I was at the Chanel boutique last week and the classic flap is almost $12K now with tax. 🫠🫣😱 horrible. Telfar would never do that, just sayin 😂
I'm not really loyal to any one brand- none of them really encapsulate my look that well. I happen to like Givenchy, but lately I think the lines are too streamlined for my current silhouette...but I digress. If I liked Chanel, the price would be an obstacle, but if I really wanted one I would work and save and prioritize it. But as it happens I just don't. Vintage Gucci for me!
THESE ARE THE BAGS I STILL LOVE & would still buy in 2024 + the specific reasons they suit *my own tastes.* Since my taste tends to operate outside of the trend cycle….so they are usually lower priced 😉
Chanel Perfect Edge - link.kwshops.net/Pod2yP large chunky chain with top handle, also like the size, this is the smallest size bag that works for my needs and it’s perfect. Will likely be my next big-ticket designer buy!
🖤 Chanel Graphic Catch Shopping bag - link.kwshops.net/GVUzQ7 like the handle detail, generally cool shape
🖤 Chanel CC You Flap - link.kwshops.net/TY2uMJ woven chains with logo hardware on the strap
🖤 Chanel Vintage Timeless Shopping Tote **link.kwshops.net/laPQEQ**
🖤 Chanel Chevron Shopper - link.kwshops.net/PIgEhA I think the double style of this bag is aesthetically cool, and I like the chevron quilting
🖤 Chanel Vintage Diana link.kwshops.net/hnp24W - I have alwaysssss loved this bag! it has similar lines to classic flap range with fewer of the bells and whistles that I didn’t like about the CF design.
But they definitely look great on some
It's just another way of saying "ghetto" for poor people wearing imitations. BUTTTTT It's a smart investment when rich people do it *condup*
Good information. I am a tall "girl" with uber-narrow feet. I don't need a wide anything when it comes to my shoes...the Good Lord gave me skis for feet.
can we do these brand deep dives with other brands. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Please do YSL, and Gucci
Great idea! Thanks for this suggestion
That’s a great way to express it! “Trying to like Chanel” that was me 100%
You said something at the end of the video about not liking the direction all of fashion has been going in but personally I think I might feel that way if I defined fashion only by the big fashion houses. There are so many amazing contemporary designers that are not these old brands, who put out amazing, high quality, innovative and beautiful collections, and I think they’re the ones driving fashion forward.
Yes of course high fashion is just a tiny sliver of what’s out there, but I still look around and am not really loving what I’m seeing anymore.
Honesty always! Others can continue to purvey but I think I’m mostly out on Chanel
Exactly!! I’m glad that it works with your style 💕
I picked up a lot of great info and skills but apparently there were some other ideas mixed in as well 🫠
I’m still trying to figure out what my “style” is but I’ve kind of gotten off of the idea of that being a priority for now. I’m somewhere in between girly and edgy…or maybe on some other planet away from both of those things.
Edgy rijngs false on me, but super preppy or feminine is all wrong too 😵💫
Maybe I just don’t have a box
Like a mother commenter said- I tried so many ways to make it work and eventually I came to realize that it’s just not for me
I’m here for it! Love your take! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Just a thought!
i like the y2k chanels! i have one coco handle that i hardly use and just sitting in my closet
I can usually find seasonal bags I like from every era...except now. The Chanel sport line is very cool and both the pink hologram bag and red giant beach tote were from 99-2000
@@KWSHOPS i think my fave is the eastwest style from chanel. i was able to get one for 800 dollars it was a steal
Feel this way about Hermes.
Totally! I made a similar video about Hermes last year th-cam.com/video/eRbBL5gXBKk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BROlu1uFY5TpDq2R
It’s not traditional tweed, it’s “bouclé”. I happen to like these fantasy bouclé’s I just can’t afford it.
traditional or otherwise, it's not for me!
But again- if you look at my closet, there is a pattern there.
Super cool to be opposites and still enjoy in the same hobby though ❤️❤️
@@KWSHOPS absolutely 💗💗💗
I couldn’t agree more. I’ve got a dark red classic flap and a wallet on chain. Do I use them often? No. Why? I feel a bit embarrassed, to be honest. I feel like it’s giving off “trying too hard” vibes. I like the 31 bag though, I might get that one at some point, but I’ve been thinking about it for a year now and not pulled the trigger yet, so who knows.
The 31 is cool! I love bags like that and it has multiple ways to wear it.
Cool to see a fellow Prelove luxury enthusiast, sustainable fashion is the way forward. Liked & Subscribed👍🏻
Preloved has been my life for 10 years! It’s way better in my opinion
@@KWSHOPS yes & yes! It’s been my passion for 20yrs! 🤩
This was a great video. I do love the story behind Coco, but I find the bags hard for everyday use.
Check out the video I linked in the description! It seems like a lot of the legend has been fabricated or exaggerated 🫣
It was a labor of love lol
100% agree on shoes. But I stopped buying designer shoes a long long time ago (with the exception of preloved on TRR for $200 or less!) Outside of comfort, the styles just look old to me!
I love your honesty ❤
I really appreciate that. Thank you so much
I have to be honest and admit I have dreamed of owning a Chanel classic flap for so many years, however their prices have been always crazy when I was able to splurge to justify it, so I haven't bought any.
There are great deals on the 2.55 - not to mention, I much prefer the 2.55 size range , there are SO MANY more options.
For me the problrm is that I live in a small town in Germany. Everyone would think my Chanel bag is fake anyway
You might think that, but I find that passersby are generally unphased by our bags IRL real or fake
A really good topic. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. That perforated blue woc tho… 😂 I love it
Yes it was beautiful! I ended up selling bc I don’t like wocs, or small bags
@@KWSHOPS I don’t like wocs either! But that perforated leather is stunning. If I came across a Jumbo I’d 👀🤣
@@KWSHOPS I remember in a video you did you said you wore that bag to the bbq and felt weird about it....Have a good weekend : )
Spot on. I do not like Chanel as a brand and will not be caught dead with the cheesy logo. However, I do own one item from them and it’s the classic slingback heels. I like them enough but the quality is mediocre so the slingbacks will be the only item I ever buy from them.
The slingbacks are fine to me. I like the low block heel… but they’re still just not me. I won’t knock them though!
Good one. And so pleased to see "The Slides" up in there.
Haha I had to! It’s been an ever winding journey
Since I do like the woven chain detail, my favorite part of 90s Chanel are the chain belts. I had one on my wish list for so long.
But I’m so glad that the brand resonates with you cause I’m sure it resonates for some people just not everyone, and that’s OK. We all like what we like.❤️
I don’t like Chanel, never did and most probably never will. Great video!
Thanks so much for sharing! Not enough people realize/admit it out loud
Totally agree. Like a few of their bags. Otherwise ready to wear is sooooo overrated.
I like stuff too, but not more than any other luxury designer
Ok, I clearly need to look into this show 😂
Whoa whoa ….fighting words with tweed only for old people!
Unfortunately Even if I were rich I’d be too poor for those bags lol
There’s something almost gaudy about the Chanel suit, especially the modern versions. As if someone who hated women’s suiting made a suit just to spite the entire idea of it. I Stan lol
And the Chanel duffel bag that occasionally makes its rounds around the algorithm calls to me. I have no real use or need for it. I don’t even like duffel bags but I do like THAT duffel bag. 🤷🏾♀️
That’s it tho.
I don’t like tweed, I hate chains. I would never have a pink bag. And I don’t like quilted. I like the smooth leather like Celine 16
Thanks for sharing! I recommend checking the preloved market for the Celine 16, you might find a great selection at great savings!
Do you Sell Is purses
I’m out of the business on a professional level, but I do still sell items from time to time!
Ditto. I finally sold all my Chanel. As much as I thought I loved them, nothing works for me. I see guys rocking the bags and it looks fire, I am just not that cool LOL
Omg so relatable! I’ve bought so many bags that I’m just simply not cool enough for! My ombré Givenchy as an example- love looking at it, but I look silly wearing it
I feel like Karl is the reason we loved Chanel and now that he’s gone the allure is gone for the post Karl era
I absolutely agree! And I regret not mentioning that in the video
@@KWSHOPS your points were 100% valid It was a great video and made me question a lot of things about the Chanel brand and aesthetic
So true⚡️
It's "grandma chic" but people like these european brands due to
1. These are status symbols to women at the top of the financial/racial caste system
2. Coco Chanel was a somewhat a feminist Icon. Never married/had boytoys and created a brand/perfume when that was hard for women
3.Price and supposed exclusivity
4. History/heritage of the brand
No that’s Hermes darlin
You listed the same two things twice!
You said it right, “You have to be a classic lady to appreciate it”.
I agree on tweed but that’s also why I love when brands like Sacai play with it in unexpected ways and make it anti-stuffy. Dislike Chanel’s take on tweed though for sure.
I've seen it done many ways. Idk the texture just bothers me. It looks like arts and crafts or that home insulation material (not sure what it's called)
I cut this out for time but, now especially that I wear my hair curly (it was never that straight to begin with!) The fuzzy texture of tweed is just too close to my hair...it makes me feel like a walking fuzzball!

This is the book! I highly recommend amzn.to/3X5KIhk
Dana is an excellent reporter! I’m currently reading deluxe. I recently finished her book “Gods & Kings: the rise and fall of Alexander, McQueen and John Galliano” I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well.
I’ll add Terry Agin’s to my TBR list as well. I’m currently obsessed with this topic.

Don’t feel that way when seeing other luxury brand‘s runway shows.
Omg 100% and it’s not in the cool”I found this in my grandmother’s closet” kind of way
But I’m glad to hear that you thought objectively rather than accepting the reputation without question .
I think her true persona has likely been lost to history, but she has been documented as being intolerant, and perhaps not a “girl’s-girl” 👀
More influencer than innovator, perhaps
I mean she was definitely an anti-Semite, she just liked money more than she hated Jewish people. And the Wertheimer family was much better than her at actually selling product.
i think that people romanticize coco chanel and her business acumen. Some or most have never really looked in to her history,
As for karl , he was another piece of work, the only plus sizdd women he would dress are the rich . He made that clear when
he did some clothes for macys and said he didn't want large women wearing his clothes that is why did not have any plus in the collection.
For me all the he saved chanel is odd all he did was keep reinventing what coco ahd done, and some of the things he came
up with her just ugly.
Absolutely! They say “never meet your heroes” but I think it’s better to just not create them in the first place. I’m in my shallow season with consuming fashion atm
Hermes bags are too heavy.
Agree! I thought I’d be able to find the right one for me and alas, I was just trying to make it work for myself and it was too much of an effort

Omg I know! I don’t want to idolize any person bc no one should be idolized- they’ll inevitably disappoint
Everyone tastes changes
Definitely! My taste has changed slightly over the years but not too much. I think what has happened is that I'm done shopping along with the consensus.
@@KWSHOPS makes sense
Nikki Haley wearing Chanel sunglasses in that photo has tainted by perception of the brand.
Gosh, I feel you, trust me. BUT in furtherance of our own sanity I wouldn’t read that as anything other than being a fellow consumer….and I don’t love or agree with all of our fellow consumers in luxury (by a long shot!)
So many people that may share in my interests may not share in my values (or just be general sh*t-heels) but that’s life. If only the ‘right’ type of person can consume this in order for me to feel good about it- then I would have to hand sew my clothes out of tree bark !!! 😂
I absolutely dislike Chanel tweed!🙁
Thank you!!! I have never understood the appeal
Chanel looks very simple yet classic. Their ready to wear looks very feminine and timeless. It is too expensive though😢
I’ve never really been attracted to it 🤷🏽♀️ that’s just not the brand of femininity that speaks to me, I guess.
I have never ever liked Chanel and Hermes. Hermes because I find the bags really boring and ugly. Chanel has never appealed to me and the prices are absolutely ridiculous
I’m so glad that you are sure of yourself and what you like and the hype didn’t get to you!
Who cares what you like or Not . Do you hair first 😂
…do what with my hair, specifically?
I don’t like Chanel
I hope it didn’t take you 5 bag purchases to figure that out 🫣😂
Coco was a Nazi but her work was revolutionary.
I hadn’t thought of the corporate idea of making a suit more feminine!
