This was very educational, thanks so much for covering this topic.
As a Chinese born Singaporean, these topics were only mentions in passing, but never explained.
Also my own fault for not finding out more about other religions in my community.

What St. Francis Teaches us about Christian Witness to Muslims
ew Pope has done well to adopt the name of a man famous for befriending the poor and pursuing peace. It is well known that St. Francis chose to live simply when he could have enjoyed a life of luxury. He chose to serve when he could have lorded it over others. He chose to love in a context filled with hatred. What is less known is an account of something St. Francis did, and said, during the crusades.
First, it is helpful to clear up a misunderstanding. St. Francis has been quoted as saying, “Preach the Gospel at all times and use words when necessary.” God only knows who said it but probably not St. Francis. Mark Galli, Senior Editor of Christianity Today and Catholic writer, Emily Stimpson, show that his entire life was characterized by articulating the good news.[i] This does not negate love and good works, but according to St. Francis, living out the Gospel includes verbal proclamation, as the following story illustrates.
The date was 1219, and as the purposeless 5th Crusade was dragging on and on, St. Francis[ii] and a few chosen friends prayed about what most Christians in that day thought was a senseless and foolhardy mission: convert the most powerful Muslim personage in the world. Attempting to win no less than the Kamil Sultan of Egypt was incredible to say the least; such faith and holy audacity.
Francis took a dozen brothers through Syria and then on to Egypt. The Pope had said no but he appealed to Cardinal Pelagius for permission to travel to the Sultan. So radical was the Sultan he had promised a Byzantine gold piece for anyone who brought the head of a Christian. The Cardinal had described the Sultan as “treacherous, brainless and false hearted,” but after some delay granted permission because of the unusual zeal. Where other Christians saw the face of evil, Francis saw a man without the Savior, and compassion welled up inside of him.
For the last lap of the journey Francis and his trusted friend Illumimato left the Crusader’s camp without looking back. As the friars walked straight into the battlefield, they were caught, beaten and brought to the Sultan who was happy because he thought they wanted to become Muslims. “On the contrary,” said Francis, “We have a message that you should surrender your soul to God.” With this introduction, he proclaimed the Triune God and Jesus Christ the Savior of all. When the Sultan was advised to behead them, he said no, and invited them to stay on as guests. Francis said, “If you are willing to become converts of Christ, you and your people, I shall only be too glad to stay with you.”
Such a response to Arab hospitality was unheard of. Francis then offered to walk through fire if it would help convince the Muslim leader. If he would come out unharmed the Sultan should be prepared to embrace Christ. The Sultan demurred, but was impressed, and offered presents, which Francis declined to accept. Kamil became even more amazed and permitted him to preach the gospel in his house, compound, and upon his departure asked the friar to pray that God would show him the right way.
Evidently, the Sultan did not convert for it was he who retook Jerusalem, but had it not been for the dismal failure and frustration of the Christian crusades, Francis would never have set out on his mission. The great historian Stephen Neil[iii] says it was the manifestation of a new era: now by love and good deeds, conversion was to take place, not by force of arms. Soon thereafter, several Franciscan missionaries were sent to the Kingdom of Morocco, where five were martyred for Christ.
In our day, the threat of Islamist groups can make us want to shun Muslims and hate them. We must remember that attitudes toward Muslims during the crusades were hostile beyond what we can imagine, yet St. Francis was motivated to share Christ, and so should we. Few Muslims in our world understand the good news of the Gospel. They wake up with no church, no Bible, and no one to tell them about the Way, the Truth and the Life. Five times a day from countless minarets in their midst they hear God is great but who will tell them God is love?
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
      Where there is injury, pardon
      Where there is doubt, faith
      Where there is despair, hope
      Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O Divine Master, grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled as to console
To be understood, as to understand
To be loved, as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to Eternal Life
      Amen

@@Ccb88888 If we were to split hair (pun intended) there's a difference between "hijab" & "tudung" :D
No, hijab doesn't mean an Arab attire. Hijab, as explained in this video, refers to the attire guideline for a Muslim, in this case Muslim women. It's not wrong to say tudung, but that is specifically talking about the head gear (cloth on the head). When one says hijab, it is to describe the attire of covering not just the head, but all parts of the body, except face and hands, and not be sheer or tight. And I think it is offensive to say "copy the Arabs". If one likes the design of Arab clothing, then it is her choice. Just like it is perfectly ok for one to follow western or Parisian or Korean clothing, if one chooses.

    • @nurhasaely9020

Actually they're equally important. But i guess since the hair stands out the most in terms of the part of body that's seen, it's became kinda more prioritized. but then again, the actual dressing that's encouraged for women in islam is loose clothings that are opaque and the tudung that covers the chest. Some may not adhere to the rulings, maybe becoz of the lack of knowledge or they have yet to take that lunge to passionately follow the religion. So just like any other religion, there will always be a spectrum of believers with different degrees of obedience to the religion, hence the various portrayals of religiousness. Hope this clarifies :)

@@mikailsameerraifmikailsame9436 It has nothing to do with a church. It is a Bible verse. It is true that God does look at the heart, but that doesn't mean that He's okay with women being dressed provocatively. In fact, there's a verse in the Bible (1 Timothy 2:9-10) that says, "I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God". The same applies to men. God said that we should treat our bodies as God's temple and that we should respect our bodies.

It's a commandment of sorts in the quran. Both men and women have coverings. For the ladies part of it includes the head covering right over the chest area. It's done as a command given by god Almighty and addresses modesty.

      @Eworm0008 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

It is in the word itself "hijab". (wld hv beeen better if she had explained).
Hijab is an Arabic word meaning barrier or partition. In Islam, however, it has a broader meaning. It is the principle of modesty and includes behaviour as well as dress for both males and females. The most visible form of hijab is the head covering that many Muslim women wear. Hijab however goes beyond the head scarf.

When you go through the exact meaning of surah noor
You will come to know that,
(May Allah forgive me if I make any mistake writing this)
... women and men both are said to lower their "gaze" :- the word gaze is there, not "sight" then I don't know why many ppl are interpreting it as lower your sight
Gaze may lead to uncomfortable thoughts to the other person
Or whatever the reason it has to be
I also wanna know that in detail
The next to both men and women is to guard their chastity (i-e guard their private parts) according to a certain interpretation
      The next came
      To women
To draw your veil(khimar) over your bosoms
It's a commandment to cover our chests right "with the use of khimar"
Many women wore the khimar and many don't
Who were wearing will wear it and cover their bosoms with it as the commandment and who don't will carry a khimar to cover their bosoms
I hope you got my point
Then how the hijab is mandatory
      Actually the headcover
Coz hijab according to Qur'an in my knowledge isn't a headcover.

1-Islam is political against Your country
(Islam is not a pure religion 100%, this is a trick , islam is political).
    2- hijab VS Porn
3- there are lots of political sheikhs, notice them
    For example:Taliban, Sahaba...
(Islamic hijab is connected with the political Islam)!
4- you can dress the Arabic hijab if you want, this is your freedom,(this Arabic hijab was exist before islam).
I mean: Islamic hijab is by force against the most of girls (the merge between islamic hijab and other things) .
5- Don’t Merge hijab with Allah, Hijab is not from Allah, Hijab is from the pornophobia, Islamic hijab is from the males (the relationship between hijab and sexual thoughts against porn).
6 - The pornophobia: the girls are on the “building A” , and , the men are on the “building B”, why? Because the porn is so scary, I mean: the use of islam against porn
7- islamic hijab causes fanaticism (religious fanaticism , political fanaticism)

    Narrated `Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet) `Umar bin Al-Khattab used to say to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) "Let your wives be veiled" But he did not do so. The wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) used to go out to answer the call of nature at night only at Al-Manasi.' Once Sauda, the daughter of Zam`a went out and she was a tall woman. `Umar bin Al-Khattab saw her while he was in a gathering, and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda!" He (`Umar) said so as he was anxious for some Divine orders regarding the veil (the veiling of women.) So Allah revealed the Verse of veiling. (Al-Hijab; a complete body cover excluding the eyes). (See Hadith No. 148, Vol. 1)
So now the elephant in the room of veiling is because someone wanted some law to be set and resort to peeping Tom/stalking to do it.
When the founder of this religion knows about it , he does not confront the perpetrator but start to implement a certain law to cover up .
Now who would be the prophet in this case ? Umar ?

A few vital information about the people you're talking about escapes you here, thus you say what you've said. I hope to shed some light on this query of yours and hope it will be beneficial.
Firstly, Umar ibn al Khottob (May Allah subahanahu wataala be Please with him) is a very tall individual. It is said, when he sits on his horse his feet will touch the ground. And it is also said that Umar towered everyone when he is seen with them. So here, when he saw Sauda' (May Allah subahanahu wataala be please with her) this isn't peeping. He is so tall in stature even when he sat he could see her and this logically is natural. Secondly, the Quran is revealed to only The Prophet Muhammad (May Peace and Blessings be upon him) however the Quran was revealed sometimes due to a specific situation. For example, verses of the Quran revealed because of intoxicants. Or verses of the Quran revealed due to the actions of a particular person towards the Prophet (May Peace and blessings be upon him) So here when Umar (May Allah subahanahu wataala be please with him) desired a verse to be revealed about hijab (covering) this does not make him a Prophet. He wishes that a ruling from God The Almighty to descend to The Prophet Muhammad (May Peace and Blessings be upon him) for the women to cover themselves to protect them from the eyes of men who weren't their mahram. This also refutes the claim of him being a peeping tom. And God The Almighty Who Knows Everything even the whispers of an individual that is deep in his heart revealed the ruling in Surah Al Ahzab Verse 59 because of His Divine Knowledge and Wisdom. Thirdly, we Muslims know that Umar ibn al Khottob (May Allah subahanahu wataala be pleased with him) often desired for certain rulings to be implemented and it was implemented and this shows the speciality of Umar ibn al Khottob (May Allah subahanahu wataala be pleased with him) due to his uprightness and piety. Fun Fact, Umar ibn al Khottob (May Allah subahanahu wataala be pleased with him) desired that alcohol be prohibited and it was.

technically it's not only specific covering hair. in islam women are compulsary to cover their whole body, and only hands and face can be revealed.
logically, human are created with desire, and covering the body is a protection from any attraction of evil men. i specific saying this to just evil men, bc a good men will lower their gaze.

I suspect they just enjoy being able to sleep in in the morning without having do up their hair. They should ask her how do they manage not to sweat wearing the long sleeves and hair covers. Please don't say it is because the material is cooling, because if so why are those special materials only for muslim clothing?

What do you mean special material only for muslim clothing? It's like dryfit those cooling material la which sportswear also use what. Hahha you think too much la. As a hijabi myself, before donning the hijab i thought, man im going to sweat a lot but surprisingly (for me) there isn't much difference in how much i sweat then and now even when im doing sports. Also, we've acclimatise 😉
Oh i forgot, yes not having to worry about bad hair days is a plus point 👌(no saying we neglect our hair lol)

I think there's a misunderstanding? Women wearing the hijab do sweat. We don't become magic creatures that don't sweat. I'm an educator and how I explain to my students when they ask if I get hot I tell them I do but I wear it because I'm obligated to, just the same as them they are obligated to wear their uniforms to school and they can't wear sleeveless tops or be in their undergarments just cause it's hot.
Regarding the special material maybe it got lost in translation?? but it was probably referring to lightweight materials such as chiffon vs cotton. Again no magic material.
Another point I'd like to make is wearing less doesn't necessarily mean being cooler? People in general don't realise when you are clothed you are insulating your body from outside heat which can help keep the body cooler. Given the right type of material.
Hope this response helps. I think it's very good to ask questions so we understand each other more :)

@@lovestolove93 @peppergirlrocks Thanks for the reply and long explanation. Regarding the "special material" part, it seems both of you missed my intended meaning that the material can't be special only for muslim clothing if it is just because it is cooling.
I do wear cotton or dryfit, but never long sleeves, because wearing long sleeves is warmer and lead to more sweating. Even if it is just quarter-long or half-long sleeves. And I have to say I have never seen a muslim woman really sweating, unless she is doing sports. Long sleeves, headwear, long dress. That just doesn't fit for hot and humid weather in Singapore.

Yeah I agree I don't think there's a special material for Muslim clothing. It's the same stuff available to everyone.
I see where you're coming from it seems illogical to wear more in a hot weather. But to a muslim woman it is justified so they still make the choice to wear the hijab. To understand why they do it you'd have to go deeper into the reasons.
Perhaps for some perspective some of my friends strictly avoid the sun and hot places. 😂They try to stay in air conditioned places. Most of them keep water bottles and umbrellas in their bags. So yeah👍

As a hijabi myself i honestly feel like I'd rather sweat than feel my skin burn under the scorching sun 😂 direct sunlight burns my skin and it hurts! so that layer of cloth really helps to filter the burn a bit if that makes any sense.
"without having to do up our hair" also means we need to don the hijab! So it kind of takes a similar amount of time to get ready in the morning, unless we put on an instant hijab 🤣
