  • "Can I drive my car with a Bad Knock Sensor?" Well, I'm going to try to answer that question for you today. Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I'm Rick Smith, master certified technician. We have a video that explains what a knock sensor does, but when the knock sensor is not functioning, typically it's going to turn your check engine light on, so you won’t be able to pass the emissions test at least here in Arizona. Secondly, the computers gonna go into some defaults, so you’re probably gonna have a little less crisp acceleration and you’ll probably have a little less fuel economy, but it’s not gonna do any damage. You can drive it until you have the opportunity to get it fixed, but for best fuel economy and best performance, you will want to get it handled. So I hope this helps you understand whether or not you can drive your car. Until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.

Mine keeps putting my 2019 Tucson in limp mode and it happens every 2k-3k miles after clearing code P1326. Would it pop back up immediately after being cleared if it was engine issues? I’m trying to figure out if it’s my sensor or if it needs to get into the garage ASAP because it has engine issues. I really can’t afford to put it in the garage right now so I’m trying to determine if it’s safe to keep clearing it and driving it for right now until I can afford to get it in the garage. Any advice is appreciated.

My 2015 cruze check engine light went on for a day then it went out. Then went to Auto zone and the code was P06B6. I think I'm experiencing a slight decline in performance. since the light went out is it still a problem?

I put a $75 knock sensor to my sonata 2014 thinking that was gonna fix the problem but the code and engine flashing light still there so my old knock sensor was still good the problem with my engine is that growls uphill and losses acceleration in a stop light and the engine makes a little noise when accelerating probably that send the signal to the knock sensor and it won’t pass the 2000 rpm ..

Since it runs default settings, is it worse to drive it in the mountains? I have a 4.7 Land Cruiser and haven’t had time to fix it straight away but have to camp with friends for my mental health and fomo.

Typically, when driving with a bad knock sensor, fuel economy will drop and horsepower will drop.

I've tested multiple brands, and at the end of the day you are probably better off with OEM.
