In 2018 I bought this: Car Stereo Radio 7018B 2 DIN 7" MP5 Player Bluetooth Mirror Link USB AUX-IN FM. From 'Wish' a Chinese site & installed it into the fairing of my 1981 Goldwing 1100!! purely pose power... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tim, It'll get tedious searching and saving your radio stations every time you turn the thing on. So throw the yellow wire onto the bilge pump +ve at the switch panel mate. Then no need to enter settings each time. Eric
Is there any bloke on the internet who rocks the flannie and the cap as comprehensively? I don't think so. Aussie Man has a challenger!! Tip: use the side of your soldering iron to skim along the heat shrink... works nicely ;-)
Nice job. Oh btw you can use the top end of the soldering iron to shrink heat shrink. Just go careful and you will not melt the it. Not ideal but will work in a pinch. Cheers
Hey Tim, another great video 👍 I'm not sure how far along you are since this was filmed but I thought I could drop a little tip or two. These types of units run quite hot. Make sure there aren't any wires touching the heatsinks on the back of the unit or they could melt. I understand it was just a quick install but I would look at flush mounting the unit. These things aren't really designed for marine applications (as you mentioned) but you might be able to reduce salt air corrosion if you mounted it in the dash. Marine electronics usually have the circuit boards coated in resin. Also on this point, grab some dielectric grease for all the plugs and joins. It helps with corrosion in the plugs and pins etc. You can use it on battery terminals as well. With the camera, you should use some of that dielectric grease on the RCA plugs and then cover them with heat shrink too.....they will rust in a week if you don't. As you said, the camera operates off 12v and is usually run off the reverse light power...same with the camera trigger wire (brown) on the head unit. When the trigger sees 12v it automatically switches the head unit to camera display. A simple single pole switch to 12v+ connected to both the camera and the trigger wire will give you an easy on/off for the camera. A flush mount USB extension in the dash connected to the head unit USB is another cool thing to do. You can get them with rubber covers. Just don't leave the USB stick in there or it will rust into the USB plug in no time. Lastly.....run that bloody 12v constant (yellow) wire to the battery with a fuse you lazy bugger 😂 Sorry for the long winded post....I've been doing 12v audio installs for 30 years. Cars, boats, enclosed cab tractors, caravans, busses, trucks. Shame I don't live closer or I'd come around and rewire the old girl for/with you. Cheers mate 👍
Thanks mate all very good advice. I am going to put the constant power on next time I go out to the boat, your right I was just being lazy lol. The whole dash and switch panel is going to get remade when the new engine goes in and it will get flush mounted then. When I put the camera up I will probably cut the RCA plug off and solder with dual wall heat shrink to extend the wire down to the head unit. That way there is no connection in the elements at all.
very cool bit of kit, does so much, well sort out. I think I see a compass at the helm, you will need a VHF radio and if you are not going to use paper charts that is about it. I do suggest that RMS have a series of maps for inland rivers, bays and lakes. They are plastic covered and good to use for the planning stage of your voyages as they show the big picture.
I have a VHF sitting on the shelf ready for installation next mate👍. I don't intend on using paper maps as a main form of navigation but I will definitely be getting some of the local ones to have as a backup.
G'day Tim Nice,, lookin at same/similar thing for my campa van provided its got a reversing camera. Sound apparently carries over water, my Dad always said. Nice job m8, thanks. If you and your Uncle are usin it, it must be a half way rerasonable peice of equipment.
@@HarpersShed probably the only thing I would change is the gps antenna for an marine one so it’s outside. I actually have my antenna in the space above the helm where the flybridge controls are. Been meaning to buy one for ages. I am doing a electric conversion on a Thomas craft 35

Nice work. I use a UE BOOM for all my sound needs on my cat. Run time on a charge is about 13 hours, no need to worry about flat batteries and you can set em up anywhere, anytime!.
I actually run the same unit in my vehicle. Its kind of pokey (they run a 8 year old budget cpu) and takes a lot of tinkering to get the sound to output decent. Word of warning to anyone putting their main google accounts in: China has backdoors into these units so they can track, keylog and do a lot of other malicious stuff. So just dont keep anything sensitive on them and dont let them connect to a wifi. Anyway, great idea for a cheap chart plotter!
eBay hmm. This has me interested. Good news mate. My boat 1 is a bowl of soggy wieners it got too much rot for me. It’s got a 2000 mercury 150hp on it. I want it bye bye so I can bring boat #2 home. Ask my son want it? Nope. He called me minutes later some guy he works with wants it. ✌️ 👋. Have a nice weekend and visit your mum on Sunday
@Harper's Shed hate giving up that motor. But I am old and a bit broken so new boat is a 19 foot aluminum with a 50 hp. Got my eye out for a 50hp 4 stroke. As long as she can get off a plane I am good. Figure 30mph tops. Ahh that will be good.
If this is for a cabin installation then i agree that this is probably the best solution. But if you need to have any basic IP protection then i dont think this is worth the investment...
Mate I have Ferunos but also a $300 Samsung tablet with GPS. I downloaded NAVIONICS and run that while I’m cruising it works great and you don’t need wifi.
@@paulviles5996 I'm hoping it all works well for me. It's more the longevity of the unit I think I will have issues with but you never know it could hold up well.

Soldering iron will provide enough heat on its barrel to shrink, heat shrink. Otherwise, great job. 🙏
I uses the edge between the iron and the barrel. It sort of raps around it a bit more, if you know what i mean.
Beat me to it. I also often use the soldering iron to shrink the heatshrink if i dont have a lighter around
