      Definite yes for me, having driven both the Renault 5 and 4 it's definitely more comfortable than the 5 and much more usable for rear passengers ! (It's obviously less fun to drive as the 5 though)
      Not sure how the front fascia will age and cope with all the dead insects on the wide plastic lit up "grille"

The engine will be unfixable and the worst part is the engine (ev) will be replaced (price ¾ of the car)

    These new EV R4 and R5 are very sleek and retro modern stylish cars. Very good job Renault. Although, I wish they could be cheaper, like 20.000 euro for R5 and 25000 euro for R4 for the top range models.

      @merlin2627 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Was kind of expecting the R4 to come in cheaper than the R5 (because history) but I was dead wrong, maybe bc the barebones EV is already being made at Dacia. Also Renault seem to be aiming at the Mini crowd with these latest models.

    • @botbotconnection
      @botbotconnection 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Man they are more expensive, but depends on the version you choose, the lowest version with as few options as possible of the R5 [starting price in Five finish and without bonus should be 25,000 € depending on the brand] then the full option version [Iconic Cinq] costs 35,490k €.
      Even Dacia has difficulty going below 20k € [entry price without options: 22k € (and what's more, not even electric)].
      That’s so much so, it’s very complicated to still hope to have car models under 20k €

    Original 4L, 5 and all other 70s. 80s classics, where HONEST, PRACTICAL, AFFORDABLE vehicles. Now, desperate OEMs jump on the retro-nostalgic design to hide their anxiety over to what is coming. They present expensive, complicated, non-sense-branding-driven designs to "excite" people.
    Instead of re-inventing the essence of these cars, they create soulless vehicles dressed like something from the never-coming-back past.

    I don’t mind the design too much; just regular small SUV stuff I guess. I was hoping for it to be a lot more utilitarian and simple. The interior is way too plush for a Renault 4. They should’ve priced this similar to the 5 but stripped out the interior, given it a phone holder and removable seats. Also the range in the 5 has been so so; how bad will it be in a larger heavier version of this platform?
    As it is, it’s just another electric SUV. I get this is a market segment that Renault needs and the Twingo will probably fit into the small and simple gap in the market …. I guess.
    Let’s hope Dacia can get their hands on this platform and make the Renault 4 we’ve been waiting for.

    I like this retro Renault 4. Renault seem to be taking on Citroen ‘s bold styling challenges for a change and the 4 (and the 5) have worked out well. The biggest shame is that all these cars (and those retro cars and bold designs from other manufacturers) are purely electric. Why couldn’t they have been made with Ice which will probably give better life span as BEV still seems to me to be a stop gap solution or will end up mainly for cities.

    One of the more attractive offerings in the EV world, but they seem to have lost the raison d'être of the original R4, that of a bouncy go-anywhere, cheap, capacious runabout. Now hugely sophisticated with it's screens etc and therefore reflected in its £35k price, which is a shame. They won't be selling 8m of these. The original 4s and 5s had the engine / gearbox from earlier rear mounted Renaults, just swung 'round by 180º to drive the front wheels, with a dashmounted gearchange that just ran a shaft over the top of the engine bay to the gearbox (and gear lever) at the front behind the radiator. So simple, and so much fun. All scarily technological now.

  • @chrisogrady28
    @chrisogrady28 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Talking about proportions being better with an EV, not when you are sticking with these flat skateboard platforms, as they jack up the height of the vehicle and make the seats uncomfortably high. To actually get these benefits you need to be more creative with the battery pack shape in order to keep the car lower, seeker, more aero, and better seating position (especially for tall people).
    Sports cars with 2 or 4 seats should by default use an I bar shape with a tall thick transmission tunnel style battery going through the middle (which also makes the cockpit nicer), with larger battery lumps at the back and front.
    Less sporty cars that need a flatter floor/ a middle seat in that back should use big cuboid batterys a similar volume to an engine under the bonnet/hood, maybe with a central tail between the front 2 seats.
    Both of these would increase the centre of mass but the tradeoff for better experience, style, aero, and space is absolutely worthwhile.
    At this point it feels like the companies have realised customers are cool with these clunky messes with their half-arsed battery design so they don't have to bother with more advanced engineering. What's the point if people buy it anyway? The skateboard chassis is much cheaper to prodice so obviously they'd rather do that AND charge more money becuase it's a big SUV

    I don't know about this one. It does have several elements from the original model, but it just takes them in directions that don't entirely make sense.
    I absolutely despise Crossover SUVs and yet this one kinda makes sense, as the original was meant for farmers who lived in the country and therefore needed a car that could go off-road. I just don't believe this modern one ever will however, literally every SUV and Crossover that's being pooped out by manufacturers is made for nothing more than asphalt and will fall apart and get stuck the moment it encounters any mud.
    I also don't like the gigantic screen on the dashboard and the general "Premium" feel the car is giving out. The 4 was born as a simple vehicle for everybody, not as an accessory for city dwelling hipsters and soccer moms.

    I don't think it is as good a retro take as the R5, but how could it be? The R5 is probably going to be the best launch of the decade. That said, it's a more subtle take on the original and is a good blend of looking modern and still paying homage to an earlier car. I'll be having an R5, in green or yellow, but I wouldn't be embarrassed to buy this in the way that I would with any of the current Fords that are trashing the heritage of their previous great names.

  • @petervanderkruys7461
    @petervanderkruys7461 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    As much as I think that the new R5 is indeed the retro version of the original, this retro R4 is not. Renault succeeds in presenting a practical and functional R4, but it's much too far away from the original 1963 model. That goes for the exterior as well as the interior. Dashboard and ceiling are more comparable to the R5 than the R4. So, in my opinion it fails as a retro.

      @yunova 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@takecourage92 I like your comment, but somehow I wholeheartedly disagree with it at the same time. I believe that there were choices made here. The choices they made was mass appeal over what the original product was so they put SUV elements in there wasn’t like it was a mandate and I’m not even talking about size there was some easy targets to capture, but was ignored in order to make it an SUV so everyone would like it more. Some of the cut lines were sacrificed the height of the grill, the set of the headlights, and then the extra window after the passenger compartments in the rear seats, these were committed choices that really had nothing to do with mandates the Mazda Miata is proof that modern cars can’t exist and not be bloated by these mandates

    • @takecourage92
      @takecourage92 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@yunova appreciate the response and mutual respect. Disagreement is fine. All I would say in response is I think the original was aiming to be mass market too in its time, albeit it perhaps was bolder than the remake is. I agree that the Mazda is a great car but it's easier to be a pure car when you're not trying to produce a daily driver for a family and can focus on doing a few things really well. I accept that this 4 is not really a true copy of the original, but Renault are aiming to do something different, which is create mass market electric cars inspired by the principles of the originals (low cost, versatility etc...) rather than strictly copying the driving experience, weight, appearance and so on.
      You might not agree with some of the decisions and that's fine. I'm not a fan of SUVs myself either, but that is the family car of today and this is one of the nicest looking ones I've personally seen.
