To all the 50+ year olds... I'm in my early 40s and was always jealous of you guys back in elementary, middle school and high school. Shit, I still am!!! I had teenage "new wave" cousins who got me into Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and New Order, at such a young age. I always wanted to be older and be a teen in the 80s. Sadly, I was not but being so young with all this 80s music, formed who I am now. My kids know all these bands and their songs. A couple of days ago, my 9 year old was on the verge of tears... "Why couldn't I have been in the 80s! It was so much funner and not so boring like now". Sad but true. Good times... Good times... We sure were lucky and especially you 50 years olds!!!

I'm a Millennial in my 30s, and my parents are Baby Boomers who can't stand New Wave/80s pop (they're more into 70s rock), so I wasn't really exposed to it growing up. Well apart from some of the mainstream chart hits. I discovered the more underground/alternative stuff myself online in the early 00s and fell in love. Now in my mid 30s and it's my favourite era musically. I also wish I could've been a young adult in the 80s, especially in the UK scene.

Social media and 9/11 changed everything.
Somewhat related, but I watched a video on here earlier that had me in tears.
It was a family holiday video filmed in the 60's on my small home island, and in it, the island is still green and lush, the roads are nearly empty, the beaches are covered in colourful deckchairs and filled with people enjoying their holidays, and now?
Steel and glass offices, and rich cnuts in suits attending board meetings and the never ending enactment of legislation and red tape.

I can’t believe how addictive this series of videos has become today for me. I’ve literally been teleported mentally back to 1986 when I was 19 years old and living the dream going to a club like this on the Southside of Atlanta at a place called Jitterbugs. I was only able to go from Summer 85 to June 86 because I was paralyzed in a car accident June 26th and spent a long time in recovery. I assure you from Fall of 87 until the early 2000’s I was dancing my ass off in my wheelchair at some club or another. Life can sometimes throw you a hard curve, but if you lean into it just right... at minimum it’s a base hit. So stay young, live your dreams, and remember the 80’s may have been the best time to be alive, but life is better than death, if you don’t believe me ask any dead person they’ll tell you I’m right. For the record, the auburn haired hottie in the devil horns 0:25 would have been the object of my desires back then, apparently I’m not alone in this notion either. 🥰😉🖖🏼🤙🏼

All this footage is a gift from the gods! I'm an OG club DJ (I started my career in 1981) and I literally played 90% of these songs those same years. But it was the club MAN RAY in Boston/Cambridge, and the crowd looked exactly like this too. But the sad part: NO footage was ever shot of the club. And I'll tell ya: no other decade will ever best the 80s for the sheer breadth of creativity and various genres that ruled those incredible 10 years!

I was once one of the people in this crowd. This is my era. I loved the 80s! But don’t any of you think that it was that much different than it is today. Whether it is social phobia, social butterfly, or social media-every era has similar insecurities and desires: to be desired, popular, and accepted. Nearly every person in this video was self-conscious in that way. (I didn’t think there were that many good dancers, either. They’re all doing the same arm swing and two-step. Lol) In every era the good dancers are the ones who dance from the heart with no self-consciousness, imho.
I may be totally wrong comparing the 80s to current times, though. I haven’t been out to a dance club since the late 90s. Lol

Unfortunately that joy and freedom doesn't exist anymore.
Just few 80s party's here and then, but is not the same.
All we can do is keep those memories alive in our mind and heart.

And they will back after this period of human kind.

People still do it in NYC depending on the place.
