@@dystopian2153 True. I think most of it was because of the drug culture in music and the Pacific NW where so many of the 90s bands got their start. Most of the musician had already gotten on hard drugs right as they blew up and there was an element of darkness to a lot of the different genres. I think most of it was misdirected anger too that made it so sketchy. But the optimism from the later 80s was still there, at least on the street and in other entertainment. Ahh the 80s. When you went out you had a good time with no phone bothering or distracting you. We actually talked to each other.
We still do. If you don't than that's really on you. I just went for a 5 hour walk with a friend (in Berlin) and am now chilling on youtube. There were so many people outside, sitting on the riverside laughing, talking, having fun. Every single café, bar was absolutely packed, every bench was taken. Basically everyone left their home. It's not the times, you live it, it's really just you. If you miss it... do something about it.
Its bland because when people try to have their own style and be “unique” society shuts them down and looks at them ugly. Telling them to be like celebs of today who are mostly plastic and fake
To some people today this might look a bit pretentious - strange outfits, big hair, girls all gussied up, but it wasn't at all. It was a very fun, welcoming, positive time. People did their own thing, not try to imitate, or one-up each other. If you did, it was with your friends, and fun we'd laugh at. I was young, shy, and honestly barely went to any clubs like this, but the times I did it was such a great experience.
My father was born in the 1960s. 80s was his era. He told me about his time while showing pictures when he was in his 20s. Best years of his life. People back then were much happier. Now i am in my 20s, i wish i could live in that era.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful I can just say it’s all good that is beautiful. We live in that era 80s on 54 and it was just beautiful.
Wonderful footage. What strikes me is that everyone is at their peak here. They would never lookor feel any better. My time was about a decade later and there's often a temptation to look back and cringe at how you looked back then. I don't think these people need worry about that. They look fabulous.
Dude I'm about to out of my mind. Everyone has their own style. Each fckn person has its own unique style and it's so fckn original. It's amazing. All em re killing it. This era will never come again. Damn.

She was 25 and she had to babysit my azz lol. She dropped me off at the neighbors house instead and went to Stratus club. I wasn’t mad lol , cuz I had Zelda
Your Aunt was Very Cool. " l got my little nephew here with me, babysitting; but l wanna Disco Down; HOW? " " I KNOW; buy that game he's on about and drop him at Vicky's "....TAXI...
They were genuinely happier. People in the 80s actually lived and had a great fucking time. I wish I could have experienced these times. I hate how life is today. Too much technology and people can’t even live in the moment like these people did
FUCK! I would have given ANYTHING to have gone there back in the day! And I say that as someone who fully experienced two clubbing eras - the 80s and the 90s! Brilliant!

I went to this club back in 1986 and it was super fun. I can't say it was more fun than the regular Club I used to go to in my own Hometown. Now that I think about it I can't believe how careless I was to have met some guys in Los Angeles and then drove them all the way to San Diego to go to this club the next night. These years were the best years of my life and I wish I could replay them again and appreciate how great they were.
@Yungrexy not to all of us, one of my buddies died from liver cancer from too much alcohol and another committed suicide after his kid and wife died, we were all 80s generation, times were a lot harder back then

We were. Not as much junk food, no internet (so we COULDN'T be occupied by that), walked and rode bikes wherever we wanted to go, cooked healthier foods, and we did alot more physical activities. Alot easier to be fit back then.
@@mikek0135 This is SO VERY EXACTLY TRUE Mike! I was a Mobile D.J. during this same very era (not at the Stratus Club in San Diego however, but at venues in the Los Angeles areas) and young people out on the dance floors wanted to BE & LOOK their VERY BEST; that was so SUPER important to them. Indeed, perhaps a number of them took it to extremes, like in any society or in any era, but your observations are CORRECT; in the 1980s, particularly in the latter part of that decade, the guys were lean & slick and the gals were the prettiest ever; both in dress, hair & cosmetics. Call me A 62 YEAR OLD FART, but THAT'S the way it was back then during that unique time; I WAS there...I SAW it, and those 17/18 year olds in this here Stratus Dance Club video...which are about 54/55 today (here in 2024) I reckon would totally agree, without doubt...without reservation nor hesitation. Peeeeerfect song for this! Great times. Those of us who got to live in the 80’s as youth were so lucky. Imagine being one of these kids onky to come across this video as a low older adult and seeing yourself back then. Hell yeah!
Born in 1971, Graduated in 1989. I remember these times like they were ten years ago! It's funny how I can identify so much with some these people...I remember the music, the sweat, the "runner's/dancer's high". Sneaking into some clubs, getting your buzz on, the friends, the after-parties..the choice music. No internet, no cell phones, just good people, fun and release!! Thanks for posting this my friend! These were the best times of my life! No regrets, ever!! 🤩💜💕💟🤙
This footage looks great and so clean for its age. I would’ve been 16/17 at this time, but wasn’t able to go to clubs yet. Got my dancing in at all the concerts I went to instead. But this is so fun to watch and remember how many different styles there were.
Hit the clothes boutiques, dye, hairspray, mix and match, hit the clubs and f*c*ing have it, sweat, grind, flirt, talk, chat up, oh my oh my the best and most exciting decade, miss so much!
For those that don’t know, Stratus was an under 21 club, along with Distillery they were some of our favorites. If you travelled south of the boarder, we went to Tequlia Sunrise on Wednesday nights. By 86-87 all of these kids would have been two to three years younger than our crowd. We had progressed to 21+ clubs, Emerald City, Manikin, Piranha Room. These peeps are my peeps though, we danced the night away every chance we got! Love the video!
I loved the 80s. That was the disco scene, then there was the rocker scene and growing, Hangover from the punk mod and rocker scene. Things were hard, they got better, but it was a learning curve and a brilliant time, we reinvented ourselves because we had to and it was brilliant!! All the best from Scotland!
Loved the 80's while I was in it and missed it terribly when it turned to the 90's, but as time has passed, the memories are more bitter than sweet. I have found this feeling to be strange and surprising. I am quite accepting of it though and feel relief.♥
I was 15 through 24 through the 80s... How lucky was I. A previous poster said it best I never met any of those people but I feel like I know them all! Best times of my life. It was so awesome being a part of the last uncomplicated decade.
I was 17 years old then and it was brilliant times. I use to dress like boy George. I went out with no make on and put make on in a friends house. Parents would go mad if they saw me like that. After the night was over, take all the make off and go home. I had a boyfriend who wore eyeliner my dad banned him from the house 😅
Wow the memories this brings back! We had an 18 & up dance club in Clayton County Georgia called Jitterbugs back in 85 & 86 that played techno and pop music. It may have stayed open longer but I was in an accident in June 1986 that left me paralyzed so I wouldn’t know exactly because I had a very long recovery time. Coincidentally I was driving home from the club Jitterbug that evening. Life is full of surprises, so keep your eyes open, wear your seatbelts. LL&P MTFBWY 🖖🏼🤙🏼🇺🇸
Wow, thanks for sharing your thoughts and your story, so sorry you had to go through that, at such a young age too. Full of surprises indeed, bless you and thanks again. Rex
Good gods this is absolutely glorious. This was a time when I wish I wasn't a little kid but actually old enough for this to be my own memory, which is why now at 41 I listen to synthwave, retro, and synthpop. At least my brain can take me their even though my body wasn't. 💔
80s were great in my life too! I missed out on the disco 70's, was too young, but that sure looked like fun in it's own way. I can only imagine what the 1960's were like. Everyone I met from them, whether they were a true Hippie or not, seems to have mostly rich, positive memories, unless stuck in Vietnam. 1990's were actually pretty positive to me, economy seemed to be good for almost everyone. Things have slowly turned to shit since the early 2000s, if you ask me. In almost every way. Even the "big economic growth, jobs" of 2022 seems only slightly better than recent years, and nowhere near the good feelings of years gone by.
Yup! We would go and there were the the super cool regulars we knew but most everyone was pretty likeable back then at these clubs. I keep looking for myself and my friends who were twins and we usually went together. Fun times, beach day and party nite, Mission Beach to Torrey Pines, Valhalla and Granite Hills all us hanging out, so many good times. We sure did party back then.

It's not the times, you live it, it's really just you. If you miss it... do something about it.

@@Ritff666l-e9e whatever is "too many". why does it look dumb? Are you projecting?

That is glorious, absolutely glorious. Everyone had their own unique style and look. Today is bland and uninspiring in comparison
Its bland because when people try to have their own style and be “unique” society shuts them down and looks at them ugly. Telling them to be like celebs of today who are mostly plastic and fake
@@brieg8355 yeah and anime and gaming is so natural
It was a great time to be young.
Why can’t u admire the past without bringing down the current
Haha, let’s not go there now. You don’t want to 😅😂
In 1986, I was 19 years old and in my 2nd year in college. This was every weekend. Boy do I miss those days.
All you 80’s Babies… giving you a big wave ✋🏾
Didn’t realise how glorious we were.
Uh, They are not 80's Babies
My father was born in the 1960s. 80s was his era. He told me about his time while showing pictures when he was in his 20s. Best years of his life. People back then were much happier. Now i am in my 20s, i wish i could live in that era.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful I can just say it’s all good that is beautiful. We live in that era 80s on 54 and it was just beautiful.
Ah yes, I was 23 back then and looked forward to the weekends to hang out in places just like this one!!
Man did we have creativity, style, we where unique, we where us.
what a time to be alive absolutely beautiful expressions of individuality and joy and the music what more can i say !!
We were so lucky. Talk about having the best of all worlds. We saw the 70s, 80s and 90s. Incredible music in all these eras.
Damn.
Yeah. I miss the days before social media and everybody striving to be the same :|
@Yungrexy you mean Different; don't you ?
Such great memories in one vid. Goth, Jocks, Preppies and nerds all coming together to have fun. Really miss the Unity we all shared together.
The 80s was all about getting along and having fun. It was a wonderful time to be alive. ❤
We were so happy! We would just get out there and dance our butts off! We had it all…The 80’s will never die
Everyone could express themselves and enjoy it without being judged ❤ this era, blessed to grow up in this ❤️❤️❤️
*WHAT GREAT YEARS & GREATER MUSIC* 💜
1980's.....enjoying youth and life.
2020's....taking selfies and staring at their phones.
I feel sorry for todays youth.

Seeing it on here and actually getting to live through it, man, I'd give anything to go back again and stay there. The 80's were the best decade ever! What a wonderful time to be young and carefree!
This was exactly my time, my music, style and scene.
In Chicago it we danced at Medusa’s on the north side. Some of the best memories of my life!!

Best damn decade ever !!!! Hands down . I was 10 , lol my aunt shut me up when she took me to Fedco in 1986 to purchase “ The legend of Zelda” gold cartridge Nintendo 8 bit. She was 25 and she had to babysit my azz lol. She dropped me off at the neighbors house instead and went to Stratus club. I wasn’t mad lol , cuz I had Zelda

Is it me or do people look genuinely happier?
They were genuinely happier. People in the 80s actually lived and had a great fucking time. I wish I could have experienced these times. I hate how life is today. Too much technology and people can’t even live in the moment like these people did

And then down to TJ and then back to LA.
No cellphones..only genuine people dancing all night long. I miss you so much 80's
God, how I miss those days. I’m 50 now 😢
Happens to us all unfortunately, just turned 51 myself.
Glad to have grown up when the music was still good though.
@Yungrexy not to all of us, one of my buddies died from liver cancer from too much alcohol and another committed suicide after his kid and wife died, we were all 80s generation, times were a lot harder back then
I would have loved to experiance this era but was only a child in the 80s. It looked such a happy time. Good video love the music. 👍💖🤩
These were truly fun days. So sorry for people in 2024 w no clubs to go dancing on a Saturday night.
Вы не одни такие ,Мы тоже любим 80-90г. Лучшие хотя у нас они были тяжелые , особенно 90г. Но это лучшая , музыка , столько энергии, драйва, жизнь кипела, бурлила, всем Добра!!!!
Dancing nights of the weekends of the 1988 to 89 recall those days yes! Miss Club Image!
no smartphones. Just pure Enjoyment !
OMG!!!!! Look at all those fit, friendly, and happy people all getting along. Just having fun. Without their cellphones. 😏
Young people looked much healthier back then.
No 300lb hippo's who think they have the only V in town....

This footage looks great and so clean for its age. I would’ve been 16/17 at this time, but wasn’t able to go to clubs yet. Got my dancing in at all the concerts I went to instead. But this is so fun to watch and remember how many different styles there were.
This looks like it was an all ages club.

Hair sprays like "Aqua Net" and "Studio Line",Clairol was our favorites i think we destroy the ozone layer....
I agree, wish I could go back as well. The music was pumping, styles were funky, & things were popping. Dancing meant something.
I love the 80s. What a great time to be a teenager.
That means they're very close to my age, if still around. What's weird is I feel about the same, personality the same, etc.
The 80s were a blast! Sometimes I wish that I could go back!
To go back to the 80s surely you just need to find a *GMC Delorean* and get it up to 88 MPH :p
Thx for this channel! We need to bring back dance clubs everywhere like this. Love "Jolene" by Strawberry Shortcake.
80s hair was iconic. I do miss that look (and the music) - although I'm a child of the 50s and 60s.
There was a time , where everyone could smoke on the dancefloor😁
Loved the 80's while I was in it and missed it terribly when it turned to the 90's, but as time has passed, the memories are more bitter than sweet. I have found this feeling to be strange and surprising. I am quite accepting of it though and feel relief.♥
I am a 65 year old disco queen from the 70's. I truly enjoyed watching these kids dance, but wow, I was shocked at how many that smoked!!!
Yeah clove cigarettes were an accessory in the clubs and at concerts even if you didn't normally smoke. My clothes would reek afterwards.
I was 15 through 24 through the 80s... How lucky was I. A previous poster said it best I never met any of those people but I feel like I know them all! Best times of my life. It was so awesome being a part of the last uncomplicated decade.

Used to drive to Santa Monica to the 18 and up clubs..oh such fun!!
