    I got this keyboard after years of only buying 'gaming' keyboards and it opened my eyes to the potential and world of keyboards. I had my wife tried it and was just as impressed and demanded I buy her one too. Now I'm down the rabbit hole of exploring building my own. i've spent so much time researching switches, profiles, stabilizers and everything else since I got this keyboard, lol.

    James Donkey RS2 3.0 is also an interesting alternative for the form factor (a little more expensive maybe), with gasket mounting and FR4 plate.

    Running a price check from the UK, I'm getting £105 plus £8 delivery and 20% vat on the total, so £135.60 delivered. That's still quite good by uk pricing standards. Typically dollar = pound plus they legally have to process the vat (though some Chinese shippers sidestep this). That's without the count code.
    Interestingly it's already on amazon UK for £120 from their regular reseller. (not sure if it's official seller or not). I didn't expect that.

    Got the keyboard, quick tips regarding the gif for the software.
    You can use your mouse wheen to zoom in and out to fit the gif within the screen.
    Also, you can fix the frame rate of the gif so that you'll lessen the screen tear.(till you reach a sweet spot)
    If possible can you make this keyboard sound thocky?
    Thank you!

    Hi! Between RKS98 and the GMK87, what would you recommend?
    Is my first custom keyboard, not too sure how to make the better decision.

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Do you need a numpad? Then the RK S98. Would you prefer a gasket mount, which delivers a softer typing experience? Then the GMK87.
      I have a hard time picking which keyboards to get for myself, so it's tough for me to decide for someone else. Pick the one that you think you'd enjoy best.

    Mark I have not really had a reason to ask too many questions on your reviews. But this one made me wonder 2 things. 1. How do you feel about that strange shaped screen, since I know you prefer to cut screen protectors for yours. Do you plan to make an oval screen protector or does the screen feel more "durable" than the norm to you? 2. I'm surprised to hear you are happy with the price considering how many full aluminum budget units are in this range now. Maybe at $99 MSRP it would be better, then $30 off that for launch?

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I plan to make a rectangular screen protector I just not have one handy when making the video it will over cover the oval but should cover the entire thing, as far as the price goes, I wish it could be a little bit cheaper but because it's so well built has the screen has the knob, as well as the top mount, and sounds so good out of the box I feel that it does deliver a pretty good value. Yes I know there are aluminum kits at this price but not at this size and not fully loaded, I would like to see this keyboard closer to the 50 to $70 range.

    I'm torn what keyboard (mostly for gaming) to pick and I saw this as one of my options.
    Question, how good is its Wireless and Bluetooth connection? Any delays or drops?

    • @MechKeyboards

    I had a question, since this has south facing leds and I have my outemu red pandas in a keyboard with north facing leds if I wanted to put them here could I just rotate the key 180 degrees horizontally so that the cutout is south facing and use it just like that? Or are they not compatible with each other

    • @ghost_of_m403
      @ghost_of_m403 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This board is listed as hot swappable so you should have no trouble swapping in most switches. Those Outemu switches are 3-pin so I think you are very likely pretty safe in terms of compatibility. I have heard that some boards don't work well with Outemus but I have yet to find one myself as long as it's hot swap.

    • @mohammedayaanghugharia

      You'd rotate the switch, the key would still stay upright. And Outemu Panda are 3 pin switches; two metal pins and the center plastic post.

    I have the RK98 and I really love it. So when I saw this S98 I got exited...until I saw that it had south facing LEDs. I know that a lot of people say they are better since they don´t interfere with Cherry style keycaps and all that. But I like to use shine through keycaps on my RK98 and they look great with north facing LEDs. But most shine through keycaps don´t work well with south facing LEDs. So I guess I won´t be getting this board. Sad face :(

      @@MechKeyboards I mean, yeah. But that's only because traditional switches had interference with cherry profile keycaps. With newer switches with updated housing shapes, that's no longer an issue. So south-facing now only has disadvantages, and no advantages. We need to swing back the other way.

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mattmarkham9117 oh, I understand, just saying that it took a long time to pivot to South facing, I don't see the industry pivoting back in the near term. Hi Sir, Should I get RK M75 as it is gasket mounted or this S98. Does being gasket mounted actually improve the experience?
    Also which switches are better in tactiles RK pale green or RK brown?

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly can't tell someone else what to spend their money on, this is an 1800 layout, the RK M75 is a 75% layout. Many people prefer gasket mounted, I like either tray or gasket as long as the typing feel is not harsh. Better switch using what objective values? Both are tactile with the Pale Green being a tad sharper of a bump, I don't know which would be your preference.
