A lot of it just comes from a misunderstanding of what we are based on all the bad press we got over the years. Thankfully our community is growing and with that so is the understanding of what we really are.
If we do more good things the public and alter the media will see as we're not as bad as they think we are I think it all started with CSI especially with that episode

This is interesting as always there will be a good side and bad side of everything the fandom has been trying it's best to tell everyone what a furry is on a positive note but still there people who still has negative view of the fandom rather than take the time to know and understand is like they are too lazy or don't care I don't understand why there are people who are irked by other people interest and are bothered when nobody is bothering them we should an effort to strengthen the positive side of the fandom and show everyone what a real furry is
I think we are seeing a lot more positive coverage overall which is super nice for our community. But we still have a fair bit to go.

I joined r/furry on reddit and I can confirm, it is BY FAR the most welcoming community I have every joined. And as for the art segment, I can confirm that I am treated with far more respect on r/furry than in any other comunaty.

I've never used reddit before but I NEED a community to hang out in cuz I'm honestly not sure if my bestie would support me as a furry and my siblings and parents actively talk about how they hate furries so I think that community would be a good spirit lifter! Is there like a friend system? Can you show me how to get there?
Honestly, the wholesomness of this fandom scares me. I have no idea how it's even possible, like no other large community comes even close to it in my experience XD
Guess I show my age when I say Lana Del Who? “Ewww furries” has been a thing long before anyone had heard of her. Oh and as a side greymuzzle note, the blue fox suiter at 4:52 is John Cawley. He and his wife got married in fursuits and he’s been a huge part of the fandom since forever.

Hey Chip I was also a furry back in the 90s, I did not get to any of the cons but I did go to several meets. Back then I went by the name of silver fox.

@@ChipFox I was in Irvine ca, there were a few, at least enough to have a nice fur meet, and play a few games, even back then kids loved the hugs,and people wanted their pics taken.
I wish I still had that old fursuit even though it was cringy it was still a nice suit, but alas my ex doused it in gas and lite it on fire.

I was like del ray when I found furries but I reacted like Johnny Bravo "I'm sickened yet curious" but the other fella just sad and as a former brony yes the pony fandom was good before it fell in early or mid 2019 when hasbin (hasbro) announced the end on the FIM show I left it in late 2018 or early 2019 tho

I really like the furry episode in Lucifer season 3 I think it was. Really puts the fandom in a light spot about it being a completely wholesome group of artistic people.

19:20 the creativity is honestly one of my fav parts of the furry fandom. When I first became aware of furries, I didn’t even know the fandom was really a thing, it was just some stuff my friends in high school were interested in, and the creative side to it drew me and it’s a big part of why I stayed. But I’m also an artist who really loves art so I guess that makes sense 🤷🏼♂️
Gosh it annoys me how most of the people who hate furries are misinformed, well, it's better to ignore them, or help them understand.

I am glad! I know some of it can be a little repetitive but I tried to expand on it a bit more too.
Society just wants us to follow the norm and to be “normal” when anyone does anything different they are called out for it and are called “odd” or “weird”
I like being weird because who wants to be normal, sounds boring. I bet allot of furries can agree, I also agree that normal people say normal is good.
But Ash, what about Snake Busters? The Furry Juggalos in my opinion, have been a fairly large merging of fandoms/groups that lets fans express themselves ten-fold. Maybe something for another video.

I am working to build my first fur suit myself. I was going through a depression and just fell in love with this one fur suit I'm modeling mine like (shape wise) thinking about dressing up and allowing my inner personality to show makes me feel better and is helping me get over being a depressed antisocial hermit like I had become. I've always had an issue of not thinking highly of myself, looks, and how people normally react to me. But the thought of dressing up, going out and just being a goofy friendly neko has me putting in tons of time researching and planing to make the best suit I can make. Also if things go well and I feel comfortable building suits I may even go public as a new maker. Tho I haven't decided if I'm gonna go by Cy or another name when I'm in character.
Life is to short so we do something we love and the media is angry about that!? If I have to I will fix this here and now

My mom saw the csi episode and claims she saw this show called "My vacation from Hell" where a family with young children booked a hotel where there was a furry convention going on at the same time and they were yiffing in the lobby. I looked it up and not show apparently does not exist. I tried to tell her even if it did with the name like my vacation from hell they are purposely going to look for stories of bad things. she also wouldn't believe me about the CSI episode purposely being written to make all furries look bad. She's extremely conservative and was like "it's a gateway to being gay!" Uh, no mother. Gay is something you're born with. Furries are no different than people who dress up for Star Treck conventions. She was a Star Treck fan and tried to say that dressing up for that was wrong too. She has memory problems due to a childhood head injury and claims not to remember very hurtful things she said.
Being a furry is fun so that's why I do what I do

I do feel that when it comes to politics, Furries aren’t accepting of one another, but this fandom is pretty accepting for the most part besides that!

It seems it is a thing not specifically tied to furries but still something to be very aware of
It does seem like bad publicity can bring ridicule to the fandom, but it can also bring some of the more open-minded people to seek out and possibly join the fandom. I joined because I heard about the fandom through friends. I only seemed to hear people hate the fandom, so I decided to research furries and see if they deserved the hate they got. I saw that the fandom was truly an amazing place, and I decided to join. I'm really happy with my experience so far, and I hope there are others out there like me who have joined the fandom or might consider it.

Ive been a furry since i was a kid in the 80's, lol. No internet back then, but i always chose an animal to be instead of like, She-ra when playing with friends. I remember being a furry in the 90's and for me it was all artists online and there was waaay more adult themed art, which made it hard for people like me to find more...vanilla art. i didnt know anyone who was into furries or even anime, i was pretty alone and had no one to talk to about these interests. I just took it as another reason i was weird and grew up feeling like a total outcast.
Lana DelRay seems like one of those bandwagon people-one person says furries are gross because it seems like the cool thing to do and then suddenly it's something u say to look cool, and isnt based on any knowledge. Speaks to her maturity-or lack thereof, honestly.

Making ocs for canon worlds and series can be just as personal as Furry (“non fandom” ocs)💕 But I guess I can see if they mean that the fandom itself isn’t all ocs, which they don’t have to be to be personal and fun, or inclusive or welcoming. I hope all fandoms can be seen as something positive, and being a part of such a diverse bunch of fandoms, I have to say that each one really plays up their own positivity, even when not so great things happen behind the scenes. I would be lying if I said I didn’t hide my other fandom interests from each particular group!

I wouldn’t usually drop my opinion in the comment of a video, and am only saying something because the video encouraged it. In my OWN opinion, to have different interests and hobbies from someone else is great, as long as it isn’t harmful. Dressing up as a colorful cartoon character doesn’t hurt anyone, and doesn’t deserve to be discriminated against. Yet, if someone makes the choice to voice their own opinion to say “ew gross” they are also free to their own opinion as long as they’re not encouraging harm. If they’re inherently malignant, and encourage others to harm the community in the name of their harmless interest, that’s when it becomes an issue. I’d also like to add onto the end here; it’s okay to be “normal”. There shouldn’t be a pressure on people to “change themself to be ‘unique’”. Even if a ‘ normal’ person is forced to change to be more ‘unique’ it’s still inherently discrimination. At the end of the day, do what you love. As long as it motivates you to do good things, you can have any hobby under the sun.
