Leadership Lessons From the Prime Minister of Canada | Justin Trudeau | TED

  • Justin Trudeau has served as the prime minister of Canada since 2015. There's a lot to dig into from his years in office - and from his life before, as well. He sits down with organizational psychologist Adam Grant to discuss lessons learned about leadership and how he navigated early struggles with impostor syndrome. He also shares his approach to maintaining motivation in the face of disapproval and criticism, how he encourages people to speak truth to power, why he considered quitting and what keeps him awake at night. (This interview was recorded for the "ReThinking with Adam Grant" podcast.)

    I love that this video was literally designed to address what this comments section would be like. We vote every 4 years…This man has been re-elected twice and served through completely unprecedented times.
    People are very loud and very angry, and the Prime Minister will always be an easy villain.
    People forget that they HATED Stephen Harper too, back in 2015. (who was the leader of the Conservative Party) There were literally signs that had F**k Harper just like the F**k Trudeau signs.
    As a country we need to take a collective breath, and think a little more critically.

    Being American, I’m not fully aware of Justin Trudeau‘s overall reputation, but given what we usually end up with for a president, he has always seemed like a sharp, well spoken and progressive guy. I’m judging in the comments most people don’t agree. Lol. I’d be curious to hear what it is that makes him so controversial, or is it just that any public figure of his status is going to draw Sharp mixed reactions?

    • @tcintuitivetarot
      @tcintuitivetarot หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@EllisD1249 Yes, he did that, and people like to cherry pick that story from 23 years ago.
      It’s worth noting the world was different at the turn of the century. He also apologized for that Halloween costume immediately, took the blame and made sure we knew it was inappropriate but not intentionally offensive.
      None of us are perfect. None of us. Adults aren’t perfect. Leaders aren’t perfect. What’s important is how we learn and grow and become better people over time.
      If we’re leaders, like he is, we are also expected to set an example in how we respond to our own mistakes.
      In that situation, Trudeau acknowledged his Halloween costume as a poor choice, told the truth about it (including the fact that there was no offence intended at the time), acknowledged it as culturally inappropriate, and apologized for wearing it. That’s what adults do. That’s what good leaders do.
      It’s an example of integrity, humility and growth we RARELY see demonstrated by politicians.
      After the fact, other mature adults need to keep things in proportion, accept a sincere apology, refrain from cherry picking a story repeatedly while ignoring the good he has worked to put forward, including clean water for reservations (finally!) and equity for marginalized groups not the least of which is measurable truth & reconciliation for our First Nations.

    This guy is unfairly hated. He is the best prime minister in Canadian history. Canadians have a bad habit of blaming everything on the prime minister because they don’t know about provincial and municipal jurisdiction. Basically the PM has way less power than they think he does.
