@@ScoutsOut Planning on getting myself a new ninja 4 in the next few months....Loved this little pocket rocket back in the day and love the styling on the new ones.
I own a few bikes including a Ducati 939 Supersport which i love. But i recently bought a Ninja 400 because i liked it that much. The handling feels telepathic. I just think the line i want to take and the bike just goes there. I enjoy it for totally different reasons then my 939. There is something about riding a less powerful bike that you can rev out and easily handle that is a joy. As apposed to having a really fast but bigger and heavier bike that you are always holding back on because the bike is more capable then your riding ability. And i say that as an experienced rider who's been riding for many years.
So true! And funny as I bought my ninja 400 when my 939 was my primary bike. I got it back then mainly to slow down the miles I was quickly stacking up on the Ducati and pleasantly came to the same conclusion of the n400. I then started getting into track days with it, such a great bike!
As a guy who planning to get license and having been watching a bunch of reviews, now I’m taught that it’s the best “beginner” bike. But, almost all who say that are such “experienced” riders like you ! It’s hard to tell the worth for a beginner and the rotation from lower cc to higher to lower again isn’t avoidable ?😂 Such a money spending hobby but I’m thrilled to jump into it !
Hello Kuraki! Reading your post 10 months later, how did it go with you bike choice? I am also going to learn motorcycling this year and it seems this bike or Yamaha R3 are nice beginners bikes. I am 50 yo, never rode any bike but my 16 yo is learning his A1 (125cc in Europe) licence and I want to ride with him this summer! Tell me about your first year! We are from Norway, which means most motorcycles don’t drive from october to april and it’s a seasonal hobby! We can’t wait to begin! (Writing this on jan. 31 2023)
@@enrage6073 I hope Kuraki doesn't mind me replying here, but my partner (who is also a new rider) just got the Ninja 400 and I cannot tell you how good the bike is. A wonderfully responsive engine, fun to ride, the chassis and handling is beautiful (you think and it turns). You have a nice riding position (it's comfortable) and it is more than fast enough for the roads - overtaking in the countryside and going from 40/50 to 70/80mph for a quick pass is easy, but it's also not so powerful that you can scare yourself too much. I'm commenting as a (part time) motorcycle instructor, I've ridden a lot of bikes over the years and this is probably one of the most well-rounded. Certainly I found this a much more comfortable and easy to ride bike than the 650 equivalent (I don't like the engine on that bike, which is very agricultural). That the 400 is a very reasonable price is a great bonus too!
It has the same dash, tank and sound from the 2018. I rode friends Kawa 400 from the dealership. I'm gonna buy one to do Postmates. It's perfect. The price, power and size.
Im on my 9th bike and im back on the ninja 400. Love it and you are right i wouldnt do a 250 or 300 again but the 400 is a great commuter if you are a sport bike rider.
@@ScoutsOut All of us like acceleration, but if folks have to be going 200 mph all the time, to enjoy motorcycling, they're missing out, in my book. The little Ninja is just a great all around bike.
Dude, pushing a 1000cc bike hard is fun for 2 seconds. Then the fuel consumption and insurance really get annoying. This Kawa 400 has the power and the economy, along with the cornering abilities to make you get giddy. It is more often that you will wish you were on a 400 than the times you wish you were on a 1000
I'm actually looking at one for my 3rd bike I started on a 300 and then got a 650 when I went down on it I miss my 300 more than my 650 so I'm going back to a little bike
you won't regret the 400 over the 300 and honestly it has enough power and lightness to make it the best of both worlds. I loved my ninja 400. I put more miles on it than any other bike ive owned through the years
Love mine! I don't know if I would part with it even I got another motorcycle (have a 2018 KRT), its that good and fun. Sips gas, and so easy to maintain too.
I must be the weird one.. I started out on a honda cbr 600.. then 900rr.. just bikes that were all wrong to honestly learn on.. I'm picking up my ninja 400 on Saturday and can't wait to learn how to ride better
Not weird at all, I did the same thing. CBR 600/Ducati 939/zx6r. I’ve learned so much more from the smaller bikes and now prefer them for track riding and tight backroad knee draggin
Nice dude, glad the video was helpful. I personally prefer to use shoei helmets. They are generally expensive but so worth it imo. They come with an internal pin lock that won't fog up, so cool
That would be super fun on the track! At thunder hill they used to rent the 250’s or whatever they were and certain parts of the track were faster then me on the 1 K. Small bikes just make things easier. Maybe flipping the bike line up? 😂🤣 🤙🏼
Haha yea dude the little bikes are rad. Did you see kawi announcement today? They finally popped a small cc inline 4 the zx4rr that bike will beat my r7 gonna be such a rad little track bike
I practiced Z125 in MSF, first time in motorcycle and felt at 20 mph it was already a lot of fun. Any reason to upgrade to Ninja 400 if plan to ride mostly on streets when I get my license?
Good Video man! Almost started on the ninja 400, but ended up on the R3, now on the R7 since last month, just started riding last season and stumble on your channel last month, glad I did! Have you seen the new yoshimura parts for the R7 yet?
I've modded my Ninja 400 KRT about as much as I'm going to do. Not sure if I will move up to a higher-powered bike. The Ninja 400 does pick up the pace pretty quickly, especially after getting the ECU flashed. :)
Love this review, I get my 2023 Ninja 400 within a month. Been looking forward to it, been riding an electric bike, can do 100 kmhr, but legally, I can only 30 kmhr....I think... anyway, I LEGALLY do the speed ..........
Hello, enjoyed your video, I’ve been riding for 30 years +, and I want a commuter daily runner, and maybe mire, do you think I would like it?? I’ve had everything from a 125 Suzuki to a Honda Valkyrie, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, thanks!
I commuted mine for about 9 months 45 miles each way and it was great. If I was to get another one I would want to put a bigger windscreen hand guards and bags and I think it would be the perfect commuter
@@ScoutsOut got it, took it to a parking lot. On the way there I stalled like 4 times and all the cars kept passing me I was mad nervous. Got to the lot, practiced for an hour, and drove back home a lot better lol. Still pretty nervous on it, gotta get used to the shifting and brake position as apposed to the bike I rode at the msf. @@hades_cbr I love it, have over 400 miles around 12 days in. Did a tail tidy and am practicing freeway driving. Though I know that in about a year I’ll be trading it in for something bigger, probably a zx6r, im very happy that I chose this as my first bike as it is safely teaching me the fundamentals. Last night I went in a 2 hour joyride all around my town at 2am listening to my favorite albums. Don’t regret it at all. The only thing is I wish it had slightly a bit more torque at higher speeds, but I weigh 250 so that may be it. Either way it’s tons of fun
got my first ninja 250 last year and i'm looking for something just slightly more powerful but i'm also looking for a bike with an automatic transmission for city riding, is this bike auto?
I have a 2021 Ninja 400 ABS, that was the first modification I got. The stock exhaust does not actually sound terrible at speed, but at idle it's meh, plus it is heavy! The other issue is you constantly hit the back of your foot on it. I have Lextek headers and muffler, along with the ARacer RC Mini 5 ECU. Now the bike is unrestricted and much faster than stock, plus I lost about 20 pounds off it with the mods I have.
It’s not hard just takes time to learn how to do it, you apply throttle and slowly let out the clutch until you feel the bike start to move, once the bike is going keep slowly letting out the clutch until its all the way out. When riding to change the gear you pull the clutch back in, change the gear with your left foot and let the clutch back out again. Hope this helps, if you have a MSF course in your area i would recommend taking it as it will teach you all of that. Best to due before buying a bike
Just left the dealer with mine. Still sitting in the bed of the truck. My first bike. Gotta call the friends and see if they help me lift it off he bed 😬
I have a bad lower back, this is a much more comfortable sport bike than most. There is no such thing as a versys 400. Kawasaki has a versys 650 and 1000, and they are touring bikes ber comfortable for long rides and nice to have bags to put stuff in. I want Kawasaki to make one out of the 400
Great bikes, i have a 400 myself. My only 2 issues are the stock seat slopes forward to the gas tank. Any little bump and i slide forward crushing my man parts against the gas tank. Constantly had to reposition so got a corbin seat and that helped. Other thing is this bike is stupid light. Any little wind and this bike is all over the road. Forget super windy days!! Very unsettling!!
Yep same issues for me, I got used to the wind but for a while it was sketchy as the way home for me is usually really windy. As for the seat it drove me crazy too, I bought the ergo seat from kawi and it worked out great. Thanks for watching
Would you recommend this as a first bike? or the 2023 R3? Been looking at both\, going to sit on a 400 on tuesday, R3 was cool. 5'11 and 270. Lost 40 and going to 200, but what would you recommend?
I will always recommend the ninja 400 or z400, the power difference is worth it. I think the 400 had the potential to be a forever bike even if you get a bigger one later it's worth keeping
@@ScoutsOut Do you think there would be any issue with my size? or no. Personally I feel the 650 and 400 have a big front end but thats just me. And R3 styling imo is better but I want whatever is safest/best to learn on and will keep me awhile.
Yea I hear ya, the r3 styling is better. I do think you get board of the power faster than you will with a 400, but you might get board of the power on a 400 too. As for safety they are both good bikes
@@ScoutsOut Just got the 400 today, ran it around my neighborhood "100% legally dont ask" and its pretty fun. Gotten the hang of it pretty quickly, havent ridden a bike in years, first time ever riding a motorized bike. I dont mind the display but it could be Full LED,and I miss traction control and quickshifter for this price. RC is more complete, I imagine the day KTM will make a twin to compete 🔥
Is it normal for this bike's heat gauge to run high? (Like 5 bars out of the 6). I bought a brand new one in February, rode it maybe a dozen times, then noticed one April 80° night, it was at 5 bars. I took it to a shop, and they're telling me that Kawasaki says it's normal.....if it's running at 5 bars during 80° weather, how is it gonna be in 110°??? Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Far left and right options lol, the gsxr 750 is basically a liter bike, it’s got more power than a 600 and less weight than a liter bike, not a great beginner bike imo. The rebel 1100 would have good grunt but a safer starter imo is you are leaning more towards a cruiser style bike
Appreciate the feed back, and yes I’m leaning towards the cruiser style I’m not trying to race or want to show off and look like a power ranger. I just want to cruise in the summer time and ride to work when it’s nice out
@@ScoutsOut I had one of those 2013’s that has some small issues, feedings didn’t stay on, kickstand switch kept triggering while riding (scary AF when the bike just dies for no reason while under throttle), and ECU had to be replaced. First year teething issues. That is how I ended up with a ZX6R. The dealership bought the bike back because I was in Alaska and had it for a year, but it meant I was going to miss the riding season in 2014 because we couldn’t get the ECU in time.

So true bro, I've had Ducati, Aprilia and KTM wether it's finding parts or not getting completely ripped of when you do. You can't beat Japanese bikes.
Yea I had the supersport S with qs up and down all the fancy electronics and it was white with red rims... thing was so sick. But the price of oil changes and valve jobs and the need for specialized scan tools to reset the maintenance lights just drove me crazy. Never again lol
what are your thoughts on the zx4rr? I was thinking of getting the r7 but the zx4rr was always in the back of my mind if they released it. now that its here with an estimated 70-80n horses and 10k, what do you think?
Yea bro I've always wanted a small cc inline 4 for a long time. I'm honestly really excited and plan to get it when it's available. It's going to be a weird compromise as it's going to be faster than the r7 up top but isn't going to have as much torque down low. I can't wait to ride one
I'm 5'6 and i was wondering if commuting in this is comfortable. Around 40-50 mile trip. Also I'm a beginner so i was wondering how this would do. Thank you
The bike is low so the height shouldn't be a problem. As for commuting I commuted mine for 42miles one way for a year and other than fueling up every other day it did it really well imo
Does it have a quick shifter? I have the same bike here and I am able to shift without the clutch 1-3 gear. I am a new rider, so I don't know if it's suppose to do this Anyone know?
No it doesn't have a quick shifter but the slipper and assist slipper do make it much easier to shift. If your quick on and off the throttle Between shifts you can clutless shit quite easily
@@ScoutsOut if i remember correctly, I was on the throttle and was on first gear then shift up . I did not do anything fancy. even without the throttle, it was possible! Any idiot can do 150mph in a straight line, playing in the twistys and the bends is where the fun is and this little pocket rocket excels at that.
Couldn’t have said it better myself! These little bikes are a total blast. I still regret selling mine but I’m really enjoying my zx-4rr and r7. So playful and just pure fun to rip through the corners!
It’s hard to tell the worth for a beginner and the rotation from lower cc to higher to lower again isn’t avoidable ?😂
Such a money spending hobby but I’m thrilled to jump into it !
Haha so true, I have way to many bikes lol dang this hobby
I've been on all types. This Kawa 400 is in fact the perfect beginner bike
I was once told the correct number of bikes is N + 1, where N is the number of bikes you currently own :D
Yea still the same great bike, I'm probly going to get another one one of these days such a good buy!
Im on my 9th bike and im back on the ninja 400. Love it and you are right i wouldnt do a 250 or 300 again but the 400 is a great commuter if you are a sport bike rider.

Do you still have it 10 mo later?
Same HP as an 883 which was cool for me but I’m ready for something bigger
That's fair, what bike are you thinking for the next one?
Dude, pushing a 1000cc bike hard is fun for 2 seconds. Then the fuel consumption and insurance really get annoying.
This Kawa 400 has the power and the economy, along with the cornering abilities to make you get giddy.
It is more often that you will wish you were on a 400 than the times you wish you were on a 1000
Im getting a red one in a few weeks. Coming from a 250cc so it’s gonna be more than enough power to make me smile
Nice, good for you. Yea it will be a nice upgrade for you
Get mine Tuesday! Can’t wait! From a Honda grom to 400

I put more miles on it than any other bike ive owned through the years
This is my first bike getting a street triple this summer and keeping my ninja 400
nice, its a good one and I agree too keep it. track it if your interested its a ton of fun and a great learning tool

Yea man i still regret getting rid of mine, such a great bike
I’m so happy these don’t sound like a scooter anymore.
Yea for sure
I must be the weird one.. I started out on a honda cbr 600.. then 900rr.. just bikes that were all wrong to honestly learn on.. I'm picking up my ninja 400 on Saturday and can't wait to learn how to ride better
Not weird at all, I did the same thing. CBR 600/Ducati 939/zx6r. I’ve learned so much more from the smaller bikes and now prefer them for track riding and tight backroad knee draggin
I’m making this my first bike because of this video! I pick it up next week. Thanks for the review. Real quick: what kind of helmet do you have?
Nice dude, glad the video was helpful. I personally prefer to use shoei helmets. They are generally expensive but so worth it imo. They come with an internal pin lock that won't fog up, so cool

Last night I went in a 2 hour joyride all around my town at 2am listening to my favorite albums. Don’t regret it at all. The only thing is I wish it had slightly a bit more torque at higher speeds, but I weigh 250 so that may be it. Either way it’s tons of fun

Nice, I bet that was a blast to ride
It’s not a terrible looking bike for a Kwaka but that exhaust looks like a complete afterthought.
Yea, they are good lookin bikes but that exhaust gotta go lol
I have a 2021 Ninja 400 ABS, that was the first modification I got. The stock exhaust does not actually sound terrible at speed, but at idle it's meh, plus it is heavy! The other issue is you constantly hit the back of your foot on it. I have Lextek headers and muffler, along with the ARacer RC Mini 5 ECU. Now the bike is unrestricted and much faster than stock, plus I lost about 20 pounds off it with the mods I have.
@@ricsim78 Nice!
Can someone please tell me how hard or complex clutches are to use??
It’s not hard just takes time to learn how to do it, you apply throttle and slowly let out the clutch until you feel the bike start to move, once the bike is going keep slowly letting out the clutch until its all the way out. When riding to change the gear you pull the clutch back in, change the gear with your left foot and let the clutch back out again. Hope this helps, if you have a MSF course in your area i would recommend taking it as it will teach you all of that. Best to due before buying a bike

Is u have a bad lower back, would it still be ok? 8:22 What is a versus 400?

Haha yessir!
Yea I hear ya, I just got the rc 390 it’s fun but it would be cooler if it was competitive with the 400
Is it normal for this bike's heat gauge to run high? (Like 5 bars out of the 6). I bought a brand new one in February, rode it maybe a dozen times, then noticed one April 80° night, it was at 5 bars. I took it to a shop, and they're telling me that Kawasaki says it's normal.....if it's running at 5 bars during 80° weather, how is it gonna be in 110°??? Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Interesting, I don't recall mine running that hot but the gauge isn't the most accurate either

Thanks for the quick response.
So I have it narrowed down to a gsxr 750 or a Honda rebel 1100
Thoughts?
Far left and right options lol, the gsxr 750 is basically a liter bike, it’s got more power than a 600 and less weight than a liter bike, not a great beginner bike imo. The rebel 1100 would have good grunt but a safer starter imo is you are leaning more towards a cruiser style bike
Appreciate the feed back, and yes I’m leaning towards the cruiser style
I’m not trying to race or want to show off and look like a power ranger.
I just want to cruise in the summer time and ride to work when it’s nice out
Ok then yea the rebel would be a good choice, let me know what you end up getting

@@ScoutsOut nice, an all white Ducati is my dream bike.

what are your thoughts on the zx4rr? I was thinking of getting the r7 but the zx4rr was always in the back of my mind if they released it. now that its here with an estimated 70-80n horses and 10k, what do you think?
Yea bro I've always wanted a small cc inline 4 for a long time. I'm honestly really excited and plan to get it when it's available. It's going to be a weird compromise as it's going to be faster than the r7 up top but isn't going to have as much torque down low. I can't wait to ride one
Only thing that bikes needs is a better digital display they should of given it the same as the 4RR one! love my 400!!!
totally, I was hoping they were going to add it in 2023. Still not a bad dash but same since 2018.
I am a new rider, so I don't know if it's suppose to do this
Anyone know?
No it doesn't have a quick shifter but the slipper and assist slipper do make it much easier to shift. If your quick on and off the throttle Between shifts you can clutless shit quite easily
@@ScoutsOut
if i remember correctly, I was on the throttle and was on first gear then shift up . I did not do anything fancy. even without the throttle, it was possible! I tested on 1-3 gear but haven't test it on 4th-6th since it's within my uncomfortable speed.
I don't know if this is good or bad for the engine
Without getting on and off the throttle depending on up or down shift...it isn't bad for the engine but will damage the clutch
