Saw this line up in London...was the first time I'd seen Zawinul....& also saw his last London gig at The Jazz Cafe....one of the best nights of my life!!
The preview image is actually not the Syndicate, but the short lived Weather Update, with Steve Khan on guitar. Formed after Wayne Shorter left Weather Report. Good band, I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.
yea - definitely Weather Update, i was there too but i don't remember any cameras, recording it - the loft music stamp -wasn't that the same gig that Joe did the solo gigs - ?
It was a great honor for me to spend some quality time with members of this legendary band during their Black Water World Tour vacation, in 1989, in Athens, Greece, and subsequently even stay in touch with the late Carl Anderson and Joe Zawinul, for years to come. RIP Joe, Carl. (I believe it's "Bill Summers" spelled correctly, on percussion and "Medicine Man" as that tune's title.)
"Wir danken euch dass ihr hier geblieben seid; Einige." Unbelievable! I would have travelled all the way from the Netherlands to that theatre if I knew this band would be performing there!
Thx very much for posting this. Had the good fortune to see this band in Copenhagen. Although I had to admit that while it was always a joy and a deep experience to see Zawinul live I was not sooo keen on the emphasis on vocals ;-)
Wrong opening-picture, mate. That picture with Steve Kahn is from 1986. In 1989, Scott Henderson, who I met in April 2024, was Zawinul's guitar- player.
I like the Syndicate Albums very much but as many times as I listen to them, they just don't measure to the Weather Report Albums but because of the leader Joe Z they remain a great group! I just prefer the overall sound of WR, which IMO is the greatest Fusion Band Ever!
I feel the same way but we have to understand most of the original WR guys are gone and there is no Sax, so the sound is different but great anyway because of Joe Z!
@@stevekatz4372 - even each reincarnation of Weather Report could not really be measured against another, and it's amazing that no one really tried to copy them, I feel privileged to have lived in 'that time' I saw the band at every London gig from 1975 through to Joe's death -he was light years ahead of anyone else...and the people tat worked with him -he never wanted another sax after Wayne but i would love to have head him with Dave Liebman or Bill Evans ( sax ) or Paul McCandless...WR really was a sum of the parts...and of it's time RIP JZ, WS, VB and too many others - I miss you
just a guess . . . Carl Anderson portrayed Judas Iscariot on Broadway and in the 1973 film of Jesus Christ Superstar. Amazing singer either way and this is a great video. Thanks for posting it LOFTmusic.
- yes it's difficult, when Wayne left WR, Joe said he would never work with another sax player out of respect to Wayne, so guitar was an option Steve Khan is the some of a very famous songwriter from the 1940 Sammy Khan, maybe he should have found a trumpet player - who knows...yes but it is difficult to listen too...
'' hats off Henderson ... PURE M / F 'er !!
Unca Joe is too good for the untrained ear! He’s what keeps me loving music as he never rests on his laurels.

That sounds very logical. Thanks, we changed it.
Scotty Mutherfucking Henderson! Badass! And so is the whole band, Joe was visionary musician, prophet of electric world fusion.

Scott Henderson never did learn to play WITH the band. He really stinks it up.
Dont think the guitar player belongs in weather report!!!!!! So really cant watch this it bothers me.😡
