As a parent of two teenage daughters, I agree they should be banned from school (switched off), but in the dangerous world we live in I’d rather they have them on when they are on their way home so at least I know they’re safe.
We had the rule of leaving your phone in your locker, but I deliberately didn't follow it. I'm autistic and have ADHD, so it caused a lot of problems for me when I did try to follow that rule. I'd often forget it, and then realise on the train home, or go and get it and miss the train my close friend from another school caught because all the lockers were together in the far end of the school and it was a nightmare having to get to it. Fortunately I never forgot it on the days where both I was travelling alone and the trains were having issues. When I was having sensory issues, I'd listen to some music on my phone during break time, because it really helps. Being able to manage myself was difficult despite this easy solution, because a lot of the teachers just followed the rule regardless. Also since I have very little natural way of filtering out background noise when working, being able to listen to music was great for my my ability to focus. Some of my most productive lessons were with teachers who let me listen to music. Just have your phone on silent or fully off and never leave your pocket without a good reason would solve a lot of "distraction" issues. As for bullying, both cyber and real life needs more help.
HELL NO.....WHAT OF THEY ARE BEING BULLIED, MOLESTED OR IN A SITUATION AND THE TEACHERS ARENT ADDRESSING THE SITUATION? IM NOT FOR THIS AT ALL......HOW ABOUT TELLING THEM TO PUT THEIR PHONES AWAY AND BE PUNISHED IF THEY DONT. JUST A SUGGESTION
Banning phones just leads to a lack of impulse control as adults. I work in a school and we often make use of mobile phones in lessons but only when the teacher explicitly allows their use. I think these guidelines are completely out of touch with modern society, just like everything else the Tories do.
Banning smart mobile phones in schools and for under 18s should have been done 20years ago and prison and heavy fines for their parents and guardians who dont ensure compliance . As much as the basic mobile phones were handy and fun at the time when i was young, however with advent of touch type smart phones. I observed how the social degradation / bullying / harrassment of teachers, etc increased vastly with devices being made accessiable and available widely back in early mid 2000s to present 2024.

They should hand them in at the front door of the school and wait to get them back during last period and morning hand over would be just like registering their name on the phone just like the registration mark Love mum

“Should mobile phones be banned in England- If it keeps them from posting banal racism online then have at it, the rest of the world won’t miss their input?
No don't agree. The state pension age will probably be 113 by the time this generation grow up. Jobs are already scarce, companies dont want to hire people & wages are insultingly low. There's no future for them, enjoy your phone because trust me there aint nothing out there.
@@RaRa-eu9mwthats not the point. The point is that everyone is on their phones rather than actually learning or doing work . I see it EVERY SINGLE day in my class. Cant we ban religion instead? That would be more productive than banning phones Phones should not be allowed during lessons, and social media should be restricted to those over 16 years of age. However, id rather see a ban on religious studies, as that only brings division and conflict.
Surely it wouldn't be difficult to add 'schools' into the title. Is it laziness or deliberate clickbait?
Sly news for a reason
Deliberate for clickbait

they already are (at least at my local cinema), since they can be used to record video
Phones handed in given back at the end of the school day.
For us it’s end of week :(
Yes I think that would be a sensible idea. Why do phones have to be used during schooltime? Not neccessary.
That should'nt even be a question! Schools should get more tough on everything, from bullying to disrepectful students!
C’mon
Bro get a life nobody cares about school

It is not even a question!
Why don’t adults hand in their phones at work to not be distracted same thing innit
Fr
Adults don’t use phones and social media to bully, or they have more impulse control over such thing usually.
Yes it should be banned
Why?
Obviously 🙄 that’s why this country is a mess. Weak legislation. Nobody gets punished for anything.
Should Sky new's spell checking department go back to school?
We already have phones with no social media apps for decades
Don't bring up Nokia's. Many older ppl don't even know how to use a phone.
It is a skill that should be taught not to be banned.

Ban phones and online homework. Pen and paper, reading and using brain is needed.

Just give them regular button phones. Nokia 3300 series.
it should be always turned off in lessons, but mobile phone use like texting your family or playing games should not be banned
