That would be impossible for my school because they encourage us to use our phones. Our homework isnt on paper, it's on a phone. Want to research?Look it up on Google, on your phone. Wana ask your teacher something? Email them. That is my school.
Exactly like obviously I’m not going to meet up with my friend to ask ‘Want to come round to mine’ but I’m not gonna text them if I’m 2 metres away. The only time I text my friend in a circle is when I’m trying to say something I don’t want someone else to hear or something private
alex day it would remove distraction. It would be a habit they would have to get used to again. To begin with, it isn’t that hard to take away a phone when a teacher sees it, no need to invest money.
So your gonna blame suicide on phones and not the schools that give more work than a paying job & also the toxic eco system made by students and suedo zero tolerance
@@memescentral9287 it has. The standards have dropped. All this bickering from lazy Americans is funny, when the country i went to school at had 10x times more homework and different classes and stress, but we didn't whine about it. As soon as I graduated, they began doubling the amount of homework because our goverment wasn't pleased with our grades enough. Teen me was jealous of how incredibly easy American schools are, adult me is glad I was challenged because in the long run, it taught me how to handle stress in real life better.
Why spend money on this when we can spend money to actual better our school system and to protect us while we’re at school before they try to take phones away.
Because it's a "one time purchase" that permanently solves a problem. That IS improvement. As stated, they cost about $30 or less per student to maintain. A school with 1000 students would only spend 3 grand. Name another problem facing education that can be solved so easily, permanently, and cheaply.

@@ghostboyss4331 Google classroom is a website where teachers post assignments/projects/homework so if we Don't have our phones or other devices we can't do the work
At the school I work at, we use Google Drive and other classroom apps to do schoolwork and submit homework. This sounds like a parenting issue. Embrace technology, don't fear it.
No because we’ve already embraced it too much now that kids at the age of 4 are being handed cell phones now that never happened back when I was 4 hell smartphones didn’t even exist it’s either you play outside with friends or play inside with toys and maybe a little on the computer but the games we played were learning games with math and morals not games like fortnite and pubg the news always blames the internet for everything thing that children see on their smartphones but the real culprit here is the parent that handed them a device that gives them access to practically anything
@@slapshotjack9806 I completely disagree. The world revolves around technology. Schools should embrace that; my school does. They use Google Drive and Google Classroom to help teach.
I wish I could post the swerving car meme here. “Stopping School Shootings” would be over the main road and “Stopping cellphone use” would be over the exit
True, my school has ok teachers, they can be annoying but are generally caring and nice, but horrible upper administration. The bathrooms never have soap and are often broken, they don't recycle, they keep trying to ban things (ex: non string bags, phones, all bags, "wandering the halls (really just using the library or exercising during lunch and study hall)", restroom use, library use, complaints, earbuds, etc.). Honestly I'd be fine if they were tastefully implemented and made the banned object/action obsolete, but they just ban it with a weak explanation and then nobody cares
Tyler Hansen they are addicted. I had a roommate which was 18 and we were in a group chat with 50 people. He didn’t even had the phone on vibrate, all day I could hear notifications from his phone until one day I had to assault him because it was driving me insane and he didn’t care
@D. Steven No. I'd say blame the schools. They aren't 100% of the problem, but they are certainly a larger portion of the problem than phones are. Phones help kids learn. It gives them access to knowledge and resources that would have been extremely expensive and difficult to find not only a few decades ago. The real issue is schools not teaching students when and where using phones is appropriate. Don't you think the people who are supposed to prepare us for life and educate us should also teach us some rights and some wrongs that actually apply to real life, such as phone use in class? Locking them up is just lazy, and doesn't make any sense, AND it costs the school more money that they could be using to further improve teaching practices. I think this is an absolutely ridiculous scheme that not only stresses out kids more but prohibits them from learning more.
@D. Steven What about my school? My school had block lunch (fusion of study hall and lunch to open up more options with a longer time block), but recently the principal decided to ban it because "fights." Fights still constantly happen, the change from open ended lunch to closed lunch has only depressed the atmosphere. Or take the bathroom for another example, less than half the bathrooms have soap and many lack even essentials such as the basic dispenser, I keep reporting it to the office like everyone I mention it to says is the right course of action, but it is rarely improved. Or take the low quality food options, every school in the district serves the exact same food, it doesn't even have any slight changes like in shape, color, flavor, appearance, etc. The other day I got an apple, I picked it up and saw what I thought was mold, then since the line was long, put it back to return later. Picked it up after the line was shorter and I ate everything else I bought, turns out it was frost. I have 2nd/3 lunch and the food had frost, it is irrefutably not fresh. Further annoying is the awful internal communication. I have a 504 so I take tests in a different room, one teacher wasn't notified. Speaking of those tests, one day I had a science test, my test was supposed to already be in the testing room, it wasn't. Half the testing time was spent waiting since it was still in the front office despite being planed in advance and some other classmates with 504s went to get it.
"there have been massive amounts of stress and anxiety that many students commit suicide from and it's because of these little devices" ..maybe it's because of the massive amounts of homework, bullying, abuse, and not phones that many teens commit suicide?
Most bullying happens on the internet. Plus, why you need to have your phone at school? The school provides computers for school work. You don’t need your phone. School is for learning, doing work. Not texting, playing games, etc. Phones distract you. You need to learn how to live without them. I set a time limit on myself for screen time and let me tell you what, I’ve felt way better. Maybe you should try.
@@milanilla1573 You're definitely not wrong - however, sometimes I have emergencies to deal with. Yes, I'm texting, but if I'm texting in class, it's because someone needs me. Whether because they're having a panic attack, they need help with homework, or they need my help for something else. some people abuse the responsibility they're trusted with, but some don't.
I go to a private catholic high school so I don’t know if it’s different but they don’t need to lock up our phones. Their policy is if you have your phone out at school, then you have a detention no questions asked. There’s no need to go to these extreme lengths when you could apply some discipline and some self-control will follow
Lisanne C Really? In a day I have 6 classes that go for 50 mins and overall I have 9 classes (two are electives which swap to different electives in the next semester).

same time but students spends extra time to study and do homeworks overnight also you get money when working so I guess you get some kind of reward while school just put a score on your paper
Lol my phone died before school one day so I had no transportation home and no contact with my family or workplace. My parents got so freaked out they called the police. Nowadays, in my situation, homework and study is impossible without my phone. We don’t have a computer at home, we don’t have a library membership, and the school computers aren’t open long enough. I don’t want to be dependent on my phone, but in order to get by day to day, I practically have to. Edit: I don’t live in the U.S. or an urban area.
Just like kids selling Juul pods to their friends. Same same: a willing buyer and a willing seller. A $5 neodymium magnet from Walmart or from an old hard drive would also work quite well. Schools have filters on Internet traffic so kids just use a VPN. Yondr is as effective as those web filters. They make school administrators feel good while the kids laugh and view anything they want.

StolenMemes the teachers already went to school and went through more school to have this job. they’re kinda giving you an education?? they’re also adults lol
So a teacher that's already learned everything to teach you is a hypocrite for answering their phone if their kid, husband or there is an emergency at the school? Interesting I guess your right I'm sure Becky's message to Todd that he's super cute is way more important than any call an adult might get.
y’all are actually dumb. Your at school to learn (this is coming for an 11th grader btw) and to get you ready for college where you’ll then go to get a degree of some sort. Teachers can answer the phone bcz THEYVE ALREADY GRADUATED COLLEGE AND GOTTEN THEIR DEGREES! have a career! So if I were u id turn ur phone off try to pay attention in class so u can make it in life too
My school: - Doesn’t let you have phones - Allowed is to have 4 tests in one day - gives so much frickin homework - Targets certain students - One teacher FORGETS to tell us about tests except for the day right before one But sure, they can blame having phones for stress.
All of this is moot. The teachers are educators. part of educating is to attain the attention and respect of the student body. if the kids phones are more interesting than the education staff the school has much bigger problems than the kids using phones. kids are not stupid, they can innately tell when they are of little concern or importance to the teacher. be it how the student performs or feels. My understanding is that the major factor here is the metrics in which education is tested and judged. I was taught that when a student does not do well on a test it is just as much the fault of the student as it is the teacher.
Yeah they are reading old newspapers and maxims and playboys. all the TI 89 calculators have been converted into game boys. and some ex students will throw Twitter updates over the fence for 5 bucks .

To fit the generation, you need a lot of money. Most schools don't have that much money, and also this generation is like 'brainwashed' to their phones..
That's so irrelevant because in the real world and in the workplace you arent suppose to be on your phone. Our generation needs to learn theres a time and a place and alot of kids are just glued to their phones
I use my Samsung tab S7 as my phone the teachers complain because it’s literally too big to take my phone don’t worry you don’t have to buy a tablet to use for your phone you can just wait another 20 years your phone will be so big that you can’t even fit in your pocket
legit 99.99% of kids in my school use phones to just pass time on school breaks or to use a calculator (when they are allowed to) or to actually just look at notes about a project@@pebble1181
people say "they need a phone for emergencies". how did people of other generations get on? they never had "emergencies" like what's considered emergencies now. sure it makes things convenient but i was too busy playing soccer after school not on snapchat.
Nisheet P i get that, but a lot of people in my school and many others who aren’t in advanced classes waste their time doing nothing. hell even a lot of people who are failing their advanced classes admit they don’t do anything but play video games and go on their phones in class. This seems a little weird and you could def buy a big magnet, but i understand why they did it.
Ok but having my phone actually helped me in school. My teachers would let us use our phones for assignments, studying and essays cuz I know some people who didn’t have computers at home! Listening to music also helped me a lot
I'm old but having a smartphone absolutely would have helped me in school: recording lectures, taking notes, collaborating with other students, reminders/alarms, communicating with teachers/staff/students/parents, listening to music for anxiety or sensory issues, etc.
mobile phones are important tools, even in a school environment. need to take a picture of the board? phone. need to submit an online assignment? phone. your school uses google classroom (or some version of that)? phone. need to message your parent/s for whatever reason? phone. there is an emergency? phone. etc. etc. etc. not all students use their phones for the wrong reasons. on top of that, phones are great sources of education (duolingo, mathspace, etc.).
@ViperSA Phones are really helpful and teachers have changed too (in a lazier way). They usually put up important stuff on the board in the last minute, telling kids to just take pictures of it. High School now, almost every thing is online including textbooks. Teachers would put up online assignments and would not give any paper (notes or worksheet), expecting you to submit online. This is not the 20th century anymore. We are in a era where education system is relying students to have internet at home and phones/laptops/tablets/computers. If you have none of those, expect some 0s from your grades.
Guys in years this won't even be a debate because the future is technology. So many teachers in my school use phones as a way to interact with students outside of class. And during class you can use apps to further teaching. Pen and paper is dying anyways because typing is much faster and easier to take test on and grade. I don't know anyone who still does cursive and I don't know anyone I'm my school who actually takes social media seriously? Online bullying is solved quick with a tap of a button. Questions I don't know I can look up. I can't understand why schools hate phones when they're a small step into a technology filled future that we can't stop. And if anyone dares argue that at their age they rode their bikes and hanged out with friends instead of watching TH-cam and texting.. times are different? So many parents don't even let their kids ride bikes because it's too dangerous and half my friends can't hang out because they've got too much work to finish.
Plus taking pictures is super helpful. Sometimes you don’t get s good view or you don’t write fast enough. I’ll still write them in iPad (because writing helps memory) but I like to take my time. I listen and take photos and take time out of my day to copy notes. It’s hard to listen and copy something word for word. And when I rush I cannot read my handwriting so notes become useless.
sarah haras yea I’m not allowed to leave my house or go over to my of my friend’s house cause my parents are over protective. The times are different and so are the people
if kids aren’t gonna pay attention, taking their phone won’t do anything, also nobody plays sports at lunch, that’s the whole point of being on the school team
What if a school shooter comes to the school? No one can call 911 since all the phones are locked up and the telephones probably wont work if the school shooter turned the power off. :/. And instead of blaming suicide on technology, you should blame it on schools that take up about 80% of a student's day including homework, which all it does is make it more stressful for students. Stress = rage, rage = depression, depression = suicide. Technology is not the cause, it is school and their excessive prison-like standards. Like if you agree
lovdusk same, my school is a prison, the food sucks, they banned phones, we can’t listen too music, they said music doesn’t help which it does, we have 5 mins too go outside or social rooms in recess or we get detention, we are not aloud in certain places, if they hear or see our phones we get them taken away and we can get them at the end of the day at 3:40 but school ends at 3:30 wtf. I wanna switch schools so bad!
People need to realize that just because suicide is at an all time high doesn't mean phones are causing it. Many it is the large amount of homework, projects and expectations that is making this happen and creating anxiety and depression in teens.
If you can manage your time and create a less stressful environment, then no one would have those problems. People always like to blame homework, but we all know no one would study if schools didn't put out homework, especially in our generation which is full of lazy people who procrastinate all the time.
Phones are the only time I get to take a break from school. School has always been so stressful, all those projects, homework, papers that are due in like what? A day?
Why are kids so anxious and sad at school? Could it be the fear of being homeless one day? Could it be their worried about getting shot in a classroom? .....no....its those damn phones
ninja fam ikr in my school of 250 people ages 4-13 about 40+ have phones and we’re meant to turn them into the office every day but only like 3 phones are actually in the office ever I stopped turning mine in ages ago because when schools ended and we were meant to collect them the principal forgot about us and went to a meeting and her office was locked with our phones inside
This is a load of BS. School is what stresses us out, phones are what keeps us calm and happy. I love how they just fake this and put some random ass graph that doesn’t represent any real info
Suicides rates were lower back in the 20th century. No wonder its gone up by a ton every since social media rolled around. Stop whining like britches because you get homework. Face it, life is not meant to be easy. You can't become very happy with social media. You can watch it but there's a limit where kids are upset because they don't have much popularity on Instagram, blame that. There's other ways to be entertained rather than watching "self-righteous" kids in school their story. Internet is useful but is not an excuse when it comes to hard work Also you said the graphs are fake. You have no real knowledge of a thing rather than spitting on PROVEN studies made legitimately. This is the definition of ignorance
This doesn't work, my school stopped using it because all of the students were still able to gain access to their phones. Students aren't dumb, they'll find a way to get their phones out. You can stress the pack and your phone will pop out. With the tougher pack, you can pop it open by pressing the locking pin against a chair, and it will unlock without it breaking. Stuff like this doesn't work, but creating a better learning experience will work in stopping students from using their phones.
I know. a kid I sat next to told me some stories of him being high. He got so high during lunch he was sick and throwing up all 4th period. Another kid came into class high (this kid even vaped in class once). two others got drunk and got into a fistfight. It's not the phones, it's the drugs and this is just a couple of the stories I have
my school: has an assembly saying that "screens are bad for your eyes." me: doesn't go on a screen my school: "ok kids we're gonna have a 4 hour long survey on your chromebook on what you thought about the assembly!"
Y’all think it’s a screen that’s causing stress? Think about how many assignments u stress kids with! Stop blaming it on phones, phones are our future!
Uhm it actually is because of ur phone... btw im a 13 yr old, so the phone emits radiation and if u stare at it for prolonged periods of time, ur body will tell u to stop by headaches or even feeling nauseous :V
QC Kelly exactly. it’s annoying when students are punished for using their phones when teachers are free to use them whenever they want. they say it’s because they have emergencies but some students do too. there are a lot of students who are the parent of the household or have someone at home who relies on them. it’s just not a great solution lol
Nayla Alvarez yeah my our backup teacher or sub for the whole school during the time she just gives us work to do and takes her tablet out and looks at twitter
Your dumb. The teachers already went to school. They don’t have to pay attention to the material, you do. You haven’t learned it. Plus, they are in control of you. What if there was a fire? The teachers need to call the police. Your only job at school is to learn, and you still won’t do it right...come on. You know your too lazy, you play fortnite all day, never do work. Think about everyone and not just yourself. What will you do if the internet goes out? What will you do when your in a emergency without your phone? Actually, suicide is because of stress and anxiety from school. The phones are not the problem. Having 3 tests the next day along with a lot of unnecessary things we don't need for the rest of our lives. :)
General Grevi0us Actually social media is not damaging. It lets you communicate with your friends across the world. It helps me escape my thoughts and I feel better (which is my opinion).
ViperSA “Depends ok what you see on it”. That’s not even English, hypocrite. I know English more than you. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people that are 10-24. School doesn’t care about our mental health. They don’t teach us how to manage our lives or how to get a job. They teach us how “mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell”. Who needs that information when people are committing suicide over anxiety and depression? They give us information to memorize and to get A’s but that’s not what school is for. Search up “What is school for by PrinceEA”. Watch the entire video and realize how bad the education system is.
I swear does no one see this ok this might be long but how we tamed wolves are we pretty much just kept teaching them to not attack humans thrue several generations until they became our friends soo we brainwashed them and guess what schools are doing they are just making us get up very early sit in poor conditions for over 24 hours over the 5 days we go to school and we only have 2 day weekends soo don't u see it they are brainwashing us too they are just trying to turn us into mindless slaves that will just go to school withouth caring about anything and soon enough expect schools to be even longer and our weekends to shorten and eventually there will be none of us left we will just end up as mindless slaves who just go to school work die
Blue Jay Yes, they don’t teach you life lessons or anything to do with your future. They don’t reach you how to get a job, file taxes, earn money or how to buy a house. They should teach us that in middle or high school but instead they teach us useless information.
students are still going to be stressed with or without social media. some people think social media to be therapeutic because it helps with all the stress put onto them from the schools.
lucy honestly social media helps me destress, a lot of the time when I get a ton of home work and get really stressed and mad doing it I’ll just walk away sit down and watching something on social media that makes me laugh and feel happy, then I’m ready to go back and start my homework again.
we aren't depressed because of cell phones. we're depressed because of climate change, discrimination, bullying, abuse, body issues, the political climate, the ever-looming threat of nuclear war, the broken school system, etc. cell phones help us communicate with like-minded people and get our thoughts out in non-destructive ways.
... Ok i agree with some things but... What kinda student is depressed over climate change😂. I mean yes it's bad that climate change exists but like literally no one is depressed because of climate change. Also were depressed because of anxiety and personal home problems. Agreed and I suspect a cheap neodymium magnet from Walmart or Amazon could open it up in a heartbeat. The cow is out of the barn and she isn't coming back. Unless social media companies start age verification like Juul does for selling pods online kids will be on social media. Want a social media account? Require a scan of the front and back of a government ID proving your age and address. All the tools are there. While draconian schools could start seizing and not returning any smartphones found on school property also like Juul vape pens. Again, that's a draconian suggestion.
@Nano EVERYTHING can be an advertisement for something. We have to look if the product has a purpose and it has but TBH with you, I do not think this system will work.
In what way? If it truly was a problem, then these should not be in use anymore. Magnets are only usually a problem around Hard Drives as they rely on magnetism on all time, whilst your phone uses flash storage. Flash stores data electrically.
Damn while the rest of the world progresses towards the future, schools are progressing towards the past.. what a shame. Not normal that some schools in the modern day looks exactly like schools 50 years ago
The "modern" school system was developed during the industrial revolution and was meant to crank out people who would follow orders, etc., skills that were necessary then. So...yea...it really isnt any different from 50 years ago
Instead of dealing with bullying, abuse, depression within the students and trying to help them go on, they blame whatever new gadget and claim it is the national enemy. Way to go, embracing the fear of technology 👍
Seneca he probably means that school destroys creativity and gives you a piece of paper at the end that decides your future that you can achieve by making standardized test and cram stupid facts in your head that you’il probably forget and won’t help you in the real world.
Linux causes stress more than "homework", because of all those commands you have to learn. And remember. Luckily for me, the scripts and lines of codes are already embedded into my kernal.
but they don't think about bullying or insecurities when students compare eachother or their urge to be "popular" cause most of schools are too lazy to solve these problems so they blame it on their phones ofc

Maybe, for a minute, just look at schools themselves. Specifically the social aspects of them. Theres an obvious social hierarchy that schools try to undermine but they just define it even more. From my experience all the popular kids who didnt do any work and go on there phones all day have zero social anxiety, zero stress, they didnt commit suicide. Meanwhile me, who never went on my phone and did all of my work, have been diagnosed with social anxiety and a stress disorder, and have contemplated suicide many times. Explain how phone’s induce this. I have researched the so called “correlations” and realized that its not the phones them selves, its a combination of yes phones(yes but for a different reason than you think) and bad parenting that led to gen z, which has led to the destruction of all good in society. Im am part of gen z myself and i look down on most of them. The phone problem was an effect of the high divorce rates and overflow of single parent families in the us. This in turn sent there children to the only place where they felt safe-there phones. This has caused a butterfly effect so great that removing phones actually makes the problem worse and we really should just fix people in general. How? Idk. But we will have to try.
Well maybe having 2 week long standardized tests, hours of homework, and projects is what’s causing kids to have anxiety, stress, and possibly killing them selves. I am in 9th grade and school is really stressful for me. There is so much homework and things to worry about. But, when I go on my phone, I feel like all that is gone. It is a spot for me to relax and not have to worry about school. I think if they want kids to stop committing suicide they should make school less stressful. Btw I am from the USA, and this is how it is here. Not sure if it’s like this in other countries.
well here in my country, i have to go to school at 6.30am (yes 6.30) until 3.00pm.. and after that i have to go to the extra course from 4pm until 7.30pm every tuesday and friday. anf by the time i came home, still had to do homework....
@@renebaebae0600 lol, when i went to high school, i had 30 hours of school weekly, where i basically had 0 homework. really big diffrence between countries huh
I think the problem is phone use IN school. Outside of school, that's the student's choice to make. While at school students should be interacting with one another. Time management which also creates stress is also an issue due to mobile devices. So many kids use their devices and end up losing track of time, then they get stressed out over how much work they have to finish. While there is a lot of work to do in high school and school in general and yes sometimes there is too much, it is also the responsibility of the student to learn how to track what they need to get done.
In Europe the kids graduate at 16 ready to start UNIVERSITY. Our students aren’t even ready to start college when they graduate... there’s too many distraction that prevent them from doing their jobs as students...obviously cell phones (ie social media) are one of them... it’s the only thing that has changed from previous generations.
Almost every parents now days. I didn't get my first cell until I was 17 and that was back in 2003 also was a cheap flip phone that you get for free with 2 year contract. Now parents buy flagship phones for their 9 year olds.
And what is something happened, whether a kid got seriously harmed or a school shooter. And you need to call 911. Most people would say “the teacher will” but what if the teachers phone is dead? Then what? *Let me just run down to the office from all the way down the school and get a HUGE MAGNET* and with some scenarios you couldn’t even run down to the office to get your phone unlocked.
During carpool, we stand outside of the school building and talk to each other and mess around until our car comes by. I don't see phones out unless you're alone or calling you parents. 7th-Highschool kids are in their lil cliques talking and walking around or talking to teachers for help. Who texts in a circle... seems inconsiderate. Then again I go to a charter school where if they see someone vaping, they get kicked out or suspended. I play cards on the bus with kids weekly. (We have to share buses w/ the elementary across a soccer field) I guess other schools are really messed up.

It isn’t your job to call the cops during a school shooting. Being on your phone during a school shooting can increase the chance of someone being hurt. Your phone could go off and you could die because of it...
This was my first thought too. I want my child to have her phone. We are in FL where we do one lockdown drill a month since Parkland. Having her phone meant that she was able to text me to see what was going on during a recent lockdown. She was scared out of her mind. We've even found an easily-accessible spot in her bag for her phone. It's turned off during school hours, per policy.
@@crashharmonyroberson5076 phones could be really useful for kids to text their parents what's going on or if they weren't in class at the time of a shooting they could text a friend where they are or call the cops

Cookie my school doesn’t allow phones, but they don’t take your phone during the school even if you have done nothing, nor should they. @@gman7167 they think phones make the problems
But they dont think school is the problem
Same

All of this is moot. My understanding is that the major factor here is the metrics in which education is tested and judged.

People need to realize that just because suicide is at an all time high doesn't mean phones are causing it. Many it is the large amount of homework, projects and expectations that is making this happen and creating anxiety and depression in teens.

This is a load of BS. School is what stresses us out, phones are what keeps us calm and happy. I love how they just fake this and put some random ass graph that doesn’t represent any real info
It can do both. I've heard a few stories of even elementary kids committing suicide because of social media on their phone.

Actually, suicide is because of stress and anxiety from school. The phones are not the problem. Having 3 tests the next day along with a lot of unnecessary things we don't need for the rest of our lives. :)
Very true but looking at insta and other people's lives is pretty damaging for self esteem unless u use reddit,4chan and 8chan
