    Thanks for this session sir😊
    According to me the lawyers were bound in professional integrities, which requires them to follow work ethics that is to defend their clients whatsoever.
    When the culprit himself accepted all the crimes, both lawyers also came out & publicly confessed that they knew about the truth behind the case. From this we can conclude that lawyers were highly honest towards the profession so much so that intellectual honesty took back seat. But after fulfilling their duty they showed courage and choosed to speak up .

    circumstances in profession and low awareness about conscience may compromise intellectual honesty . And it's an example of that. However human is a complex product. It is a great lesson to learn. Thank you sir 🙏😊

    Lawyers action were ethically correct. Though morality is in question here, but as accused himself confessed in the court along with lawyers. This justifies telling truth at right time.

    Thank you Sir for the initiative. The lawyers tried maintaining the confidentiality and professionalism only during the process of trial and certainly made it public when the case was disclose. I believe this cannot be professional honesty.

      Hmm, thanks for the perspective. You mean to say that the lawyers had no need to disclose that they knew the details, as the accused had confessed. 🤔

    Informative lecture sir,
    Applying the character quality of honesty, the lawyers concealment of truth is condemnable. They tried to find themselves in Diogenes's lamp but ended up in a soup

    In the case study , I think The lawyers may reveal the information of girls' murder case to the police as they were just representing Garrow on Campers murder case only .
    Thus both their professional and intellectual honesy can be balanced ....

    Lawyer is professionally honest and is ethically justified. However, at the final stage the truth is revealed, so the lawyer's dilemma on intellectual honesty vs professional honesty is kept at bay.

    lawyers had maintained professional ethics instead of falling into emotions ... Bcz, lawyers never wanted to give a misleading information (i.e forthrightness) bcz, a person can be honest in court but that doesn't mean he's honest... And finally being impressed by lawyers bcz, they were rule compliant (by following their professional ethics as they believe in client confidentiality) ;)

    • @ethics101
      @ethics101  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well argued , you used the rule compliance feature of honesty quite effectively. True the lawyers were complying with the professional code of conduct rules, therefore they didn’t do anything wrong. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    It was a highly insightful video..thank you sir..
    And regarding that question wrt to those lawyers' honesty,it was confusing for me to take a stand whether they were right or wrong in concealing all those information related to murder etc bcz they did uphold their professional honesty...but the question is was it possible for them to uphold intellectual honesty while maintaining professional honesty at the same time?

      One of biggest dilemmas in any profession including civil services is making a choice between being honest to profession or to be honest to one’s own values.
      Intellectual honesty is about taking a high moral ground and it requires a great amount of courage. The case I narrated had no easy way out, and I think that’s how ethical dilemmas pan out.
      Must thank you for watching till the end and writing to me. ❤️

      @@ethics101Sir i think in case of moral dilemmas like the one you have talked about in this video,the right way is to stick to high moral values because moral dilemma is definitely not a mere yes or no question.
      And thank you for replying sir.
      Waiting for more such wonderful content.

      Very true taking the high moral ground is a good option, but taking high moral ground requires courage and the willingness to face unpleasant consequences. High moral ground comes at a price that is why individual’s with weak conscience tend to compromise in tough situations.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    Here lawyers gave priority to professional honesty while compromise the intellectual honesty simultaneously, here client garrow was the intellectually honest person ,
    If lawyers would have discussed the matter with garrow to perform their action in honest manner then both of honesty professional and intellectual honesty could be uphold .garrow revealed the whole truth so afterwards there is no relevance to defending intellectual honesty in public .
    lawyers could have transformed the conscience and character of garrow to reveal the whole truth. They could have stopped the chains of dishonesty and crime by performing the intellectual honesty..

    Sir , I personally think lawyer is right according to professional ethics.But at the same time he might be wrong according to the kantian ethics. Here it is the clash between more than one ethical values.
    Sir , please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @ethics101
      @ethics101  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, professionally they did what the profession demanded but at times professional demands and personal values clash. This is where an individual’s character and courage is put to test.
