I was scrolling on TH-cam trying to find new hobbies that would successfully impact my future and career as I'm in college working towards an engineering degree. Watching this video made me understand that trying to find a hobby is about finding something for myself to really enjoy, and not for some sort of competitive advantage, great video man!

I feel as though engineering has really taken the fun out of so many cool applications. I love programming and building stupid/fun designs. I can tell you so many of my peers have no creativity. They get good grades but can’t come up with an original topic nor can they try and implement nothing that isn’t given. No one can make decisions, design choices, etc. This really feels like capitalism removes the joy of doing what you find fun. Sorry for the rant 😅

Im on the path of becoming a part of a software career me where i nurtured huge ambition to work as an IT dude just like you.
October 19th,2024 (Since October 10th,2022). What drives me forward is the fact that loads of works, stress, everything, what life has to throw at you. All memories, sweet dreams, great excitements, they are all boiling down to the success that is gonna be summed up after i graduated from University, and then my job landing as well.
The video means much more than just defining why success isnt enough (as for your opinion). It means a lot, i''ll make sure to save this video for future use whenever i feel like hitting a bump in the road.

Hey, I think you may have misunderstood the point of the video. Kunal isn’t saying that success isn’t enough. Rather, he’s highlighting the importance of being willing to 'waste time', engaging in activities without the pressure of external validation, which allows someone to fully immerse themselves in their own thoughts and do something simply for the joy of doing it.

I totally agree. Another reason why focusing on results and ignoring the process, is dissatisfaction for the consumers/audience, not just the creator. A proper example is the `curl` program: Many people see it as "just another utility" or "a silly program that could be rewritten in a week", but they forget all of the design decisions, all the time and energy spent developing it, and the passion behind it (if I'm not mistaken, `curl`, just like Linux, started as a "hobby project")

    • @kunalpurohit1
      @kunalpurohit1  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

often times we can forget the time & effort dedicated to simple utilities/projects/experiences that we have or others have made. It's always worthwhile to take a step back and have gratitude for said efforts

7:09 so true. this is what i have been believing since my childhood days. [ironically] this view got the validation, hehe. everyone always wondered why I didn't like to play guitar for an audience - and was content with what I was playing; one could see how clueless they were (and still are) at my total lack of seeking validation. I enjoy what I do, or stop doing it - I don't need an Other; if it's there well and good.

Each person has his own unique way of life... we just have to remember that we learn every day in our life, even if we already know a lot. The Universe is infinitely variable in the possibility of the occurrence of certain events.
To get to know different options for life development and somehow to gradually practice this experience in our life with benefit for our life... and do all this with lightness of thoughts and pleasant emotions.
I returned to chemistry after a 10+ year "vacation" while traveling in other "walks of life" - a journey full of stories and experiences. Every task has a lasting result, even if we don't think so; skills transfer, ideas transfer, pain transfers. Every action you make currently matters, even if it doesn't feel like it.
Life is in seasons. This season of my life is work, but if I sit down and do that work, then my life will be better in later seasons. Enjoy the process, you'll never do it again.

I feel like ability of the end result of being ABLE to wipe away the work, is the success.

    • @kunalpurohit1

not caring about the results to the point that any material gain is wiped off is an indicator that you love the process!

Wasting time doesn't put food on the table.
One cant achieve calm in this world internally ever as world is sitting their for taking control over you.
Its the results which matter else their is no meaning of existence.

A minor nitpick; Kobe was by no means ordinary in terms of his physical gifts (being the youngest ever winner of the dunk competition) - otherwise I loved this video essay! A big fan of focussing on process rather than outcomes. Coach John Wooden has some great talks on the topic.

Sometimes the algorithm connects me with brilliant videos like this one. I am watching this while I'm anxious as I have a meeting soon. I burned out and "left" but I can feel the creeping anxiety and pressure returning. How to keep that at bay? While I am in no way the same as a year ago with pressure to be perfect and produce, I need to pay the bills and I guess we're inclined to succumb to the machine. I'd like to find my way back to avoid optimization in the middle of making a living. Thoughts? :c

i would like to hear more about your experience with tech on the early years. Im now with this laser focus you said, and i think you only enjoy this lifestyle today because this journey on the past. But i really dont know if im just setting up a trap for myself

Baby girl, you hit the nail on the head. Art is not about the end result. It’s about the artists exploration

For somehow reason I read artists Explotation /as laboral explotation /slavery... (and well some of them may take as that , and that's the reason of this video i guess...)
