It makes sense that elves have a low reproduction rate. If elves lived hundreds or thousands of years and pushed out a new elf baby every two or three years the planet would be buried in elves faster than in rats or rabbits.
I love and hate that people just take Mushoku Tensei at face value and refuse to give it a chance because of who Rudy is at the very start. And because of that, they don't get to see how deep it goes into mental health and the growth of not only Rudy but a lot of characters like Nanahoshi. This is one of my fav anime of all time, along with its Light Novel.
Nanahoshi always on the lone wolf track... Not trying to make friends not trying to ask for help.... Tunnel vision on getting home. Then we get Rudy squad together and she can have a Tony Stark moment to realize what this magic circle tech actually do....
so elfs (or other races that live super long) having children as quickly as humans would basically cripple a world people have kids often because we die fast(40~80) if elfs had kids as ezly each female elf in there life time could have hundreds or thousands of kids depending on how long they live ( typical fantasie puts it between 1000~100,000 years) earths population is relatively sable but not everyone has food now imagine if everyone stopped dyeing of old age the population would grow by magnitudes in just a cuple decades ( like insted of 8*1.3 its 8^3) most likely leading to global starvation
Usually it's biologically that they have less frequent cycles, have some extra required step to conceived, or they simply don't conceive as easily (or the embryo doesn't implant as easily). Tolkien side-stepped by having elves have a lower libido. Greater passions than humans, but lower sex drive. Elves in this setting don't have similar restrictions.
You missed the end credits

Completely agree with you that the slow parts are what makes this show and just the relatable topics they take up.
