With the history of the Automatic Rolex Daytona needing and borrowing so heavily from Zenith, one could say the Daytona is a type of homage of the El Primero.
But isn’t that typical of any Rolex. A company that started out by piece milling parts together to sell watches. So, who MAKES a watch better than Rolex… everybody, everybody who makes their watches. Oh, and buying up your suppliers who made your watches doesn’t quite make you a watch maker.
@@Not-a-bot222 It's ok though, we can spot them. Ladies with 41mm DJ's or Sports models on their wrists while dressed in pajamas, guys who wear their watch so loose it hangs over their hand. Rolex have some nice pieces yes but horology lovers know there are options if not better options out there. This video is highlighting a prime example of that!
It should be crime to selling luxury mechanical watch without transparent bottom sapphire cover but Rolex mastered to use Chinese manufacturing way and cutting corners/manufacturing cost and time wherever possible.
The Zenith is one of the most beautiful watches made IMO. the design, the history, the precision, all appeal to me. Rolex has nothing I desire and actually turn me off as a group due to the snobbery. you can get everything and more than Rolex offers in other companies as long as your ego will allow.
Don’t agree, put it on your wrist and you’ll change your mind believe me.. i had the sane words as you but once i tried the daytona i changed my mind ( the size, the proportions, the quality is perfect)
There is a reason Rolex is what it is and Zenith is what it is... That's all I'm gonna say.... The first time I put on my Daytona Panda, I knew that none of my other watches will ever compete (Except maybe the Patek 5990 steel but that's 3 times the price so it isn't really a fair comparison)...
The Zenith is too fat and the clasp too trash.. yet again another watchmaker allows Rolex to hold their lead by ignoring wearability I'm no Rolex fanboy and I really want to love Zenith, but it's unforgivable that they still don't have microadjustment on the fly for 8,000 pounds... come on.. Formex and Monta have absolutely nailed this for 1,200 pounds. And it's a chunker. The Daytona is far more elegant and would look good in a tux. The Zenith wouldn't. It would look too sporty. Same with the Omega vs Rolex battles. Why are Rolex the only ones making svelt steel watches? (besides AP an Patek of course). As soon as Grand Seiko, Zenith and Omega join the 40mm x 11-12mm club with microadjusting clasps, we'll have a real fight on our hands
The Zenith with a Black Dial is stunning, I've got one for my Dad - and he absolutely loves it. In the current environment, where Rolex is becoming unattainable, there are tremendous opportunities to seek out wonderful watches. I didn't think to compare the Zenith to the Daytona (despite their history as the movement for certain Daytona models). I was more torn between the Zenith or a Speedmaster, since I think both have quite interesting case designs. The Zenith looks more professional and just felt right, plus (and this is nit-picking) Zenith's packaging is absolutely phenomenal. The box is actually practical, since it can be converted into a Travel Case rather than a plastic box which would need storing somewhere.
The Zenith wearer will be a nice guy but will be somewhat self-deluded regarding Zenith vs Rolex. Same kind of person who gets enthusiastic over Seiko.
I received my Zenith Chronomaster Sport just last week and I love it. It was never a substitute for any watch. I don't think the Daytona has lost anything though. More power to people that still love it and are able to acquire it. For my money, however, I will take the Zenith and used the money I saved (plus what I got for the Rolex) on my new Breguet 7137 - which I did.

If you haggle you can likely get that price down a lot, Zenith dealers give large discounts. Unlike the moonwatch you don’t have to be scared of getting it damp, I read it takes 1200 hours to make an El Primero movement, different league from a standard speedy.
I can absolutely agree on it being beautifully made and worth quite a bit. Maybe it's just a US thing... but Zenith doesn't really have the name recognition here, so the $10k price tag turns a lot of people off. I'd wager if you polled an average watch buyer here what luxury brands command a 10k price tag - none would respond with Zenith. @@mkyhou1160 The Chronomaster Sport apparently has a waiting list, so I'm not sure how much you'd be able to negotiate for this particular model. Usually, you'd be able to, like you said.
@@rousseau327 good point, this model is more of a hit than my El Primero. I’ve noticed the used market is drying up a bit the older models like mine too, hopefully a sign Zenith is turning a corner brand wise. I spoke to a sales rep for them at an AD event, he was a watch enthusiast, a good sign who the brand cares for.
I have 2 questions what is the bezel made of and if the watch experiences issues who can or will fix it?? In Canadian dollars this is a thousand dollar watch and this level of watch can easily find tech support for service or repairs.
I may be in the smaller camp here, but I genuinely prefer the Zenith. The tri color sub dials sitting behind that sapphire are the epitome of class in a glass...an elegant yet understated pop of color. Add in the 10ths of a second chrono on a watch that is available and several thousands of $s less expensive and it's almost a no brainer for me. If the Rolex is the itch you need to scratch, go for it, but for me, the Zenith is the objectively better proposition.
I would argue though that the Omega Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph to have ever existed, Daytona a close second. The Daytona is the most desirable simply because of the crown on its dial.
I have never been a fan of Rolex though I do like the looks of the Daytona, Omega and Zenith are preferred. It is not a matter of the cost but of the overall style.
learning about chronographs, I finally found my future grail! alot of it thanks for your channel the Hamilton intramatic chrono is so beautiful, specifically the off-white panda dial with white trimming this is the watch I'm going to buy when I finally graduate college!
The only thing holding me back with the Rolex, totally missing a date. Two things in live, know the time and knowing what day it is without a smart phone. Zenith, shine ✨ on.
I never understood the rabid lust that many had for the Daytona. I will admit that when I saw the all black version in pictures a few years ago, I was quite impressed with the look upgrade that came with the introduction of the ceramic bezel and thought, “they finally made a version that I can appreciate”. Before the ceramic bezel, I wouldn’t have glanced twice at a Daytona. I even found it unpleasant to look at. A couple of things still annoyed me about the Daytona though. The bright red “DAYTONA”, the dated look of the round edged hour markers that are only amplified by the crisp sharpness of the minute & hour hands (one of the best hands by Rolex in my opinion), the “paragraph” of text with its squeezed narrow font… Not to mention the lack of a date. Something that I find is a must for an every day watch, that is only excusable by an aesthetic so mind blowing or an exceptional movement so as to tolerate that “fault” (the Openworked RO comes to mind). As for the Zenith, I have more respect for the name than I would ever have for Rolex. I have yet to add one to my collection. Even though this Chronomaster is a lovely timepiece from a pioneering watchmaker, I would still prefer my first Zenith to be the Defy 21.
Hello, I was wondering if you could confirm if aftermarket straps that were made for the Dayton such as Everest bands curved lugs would fit well on the zenith el primero?
Imagine You can get Daytona at retail all day, everywhere 😂 no double-triple retail, no waiting list, no grey market bollocks, no shit fake impression! And then You start thinking what do I get from Rolex for 10K and what do I get from Zenith for 10K. Would You still pick Rolex?I wouldn’t, like I wouldn’t pick 136hp 1.33 liter engine Mercedes with bad spec over fully spec KIA with over 300hp 🤣
The Zenith is gorgeous and beautiful, and it’s more accurate. However if I’m looking down and see 1/100th of a second, it seems way to fast and just watching it seems almost to much. I’ll be curious if owners of the zenith would let me know if they felt the same way?
Looking at 2022 with the watch market slowing down, I can see the Zenith on display for sale. Even can get a discount with it. Meanwhile, it is still not possible to get a Rolex Daytona in retail, it's not even on display for most of the AD. This already speaks volumes about the status of Rolex. Panda Daytona is the most iconic Rolex for a reason. At this point, Zenith looks like a brand that is chasing other watches now, first this chronograph, then the AP look alike Defy.
I like this El Primero but I prefer the previous models without the bezel. I their dials , looks classier and seems like a better deal (even after the price increase)
I’m a watch guy, so to me the two pieces do not look anything alike. Perhaps I’m just too keen on chronographs and the aspects of their dials but even the ceramic bezels have different registers.
I love the Zenith and i would wanna buy it some time in the future but rn I’m waiting for an opportunity to buy my first luxury watch and it’s leaning towards the Omega Seamaster diver 300 in all black
@@sdemosi yea i love the seamaster gmt chrono one but i think 44mm is a little too chunky both watch wise and price wise lmaooo. Just turned 18 a week ago and I have some money that I got from the government cus I’m chronically ill so imma take a cut from that to buy a watch that I always can have to remind me I can get through it.
It's a very chunky watch. I got my first Zenith when I was 21. It has the marks of a watch that was worn for years. I brought it with me on adventures all around the world. I played sports with it, snowboarded with it, even climbed with it on a funky kevlar strap. It had to be repaired a few times but it has a history, like those vintage divers you see that were actually worn rather than kept in a drawer. Wear your Omega with pride. It's a tough watch and can stand up to whatever you can throw at it. Give it a history.
Been eying the Zenith El Primero for a while. The reverse panda is absolutely stunning! Rolex is getting their you know what handed to them. Omega is making great strides to take them on as well. But, many people want a Rolex just because it is a Rolex and that will take some time to dethrone.
What bothers me a lot in the watch world is branding... Watches are not so obvious hobby, not everybody even knows that Zenith exists or even Patek or AP. People look at every watch that is a diver like it's a Rolex knockoff (cause they are not into watches and know what they think they see). You can drive Audi, BMW, Benz or Porsche, even old once and people would say it's a good, expensive car if it looks good. But for some people that I know a diver is a Submariner, chrono is a Daytona. You can rock your grandfathers Day Date Orient Rolex look a like with pride and heritage, but they will always see a Rolex knockoff... People act like Rolex invented watches, invented date, day and everythink in the world...
El Primero is a fantastic watch. I would have bought El Primero but for that itch which I know wont go away. They are way too similar to me to look at to buy this. So I wait...
if I want a Daytona then I want a Daytona and not a copy of the Zenith name. That doesn't mean that Zenith is a bad watch, not at all, because prices and availability have come very close at the moment.
All chronograph is like that but rolex With out zenith she didnt know enythink about chronograph as she didn't know what is a tourbillon. What is rolex this moment is because Zenith. If you buy a rolex you must first thanks Zenith. But also as chronograph, zenith is better also.
I believe the El-Primero still has a lateral clutch & single balance cock. Just leaving Rolex cal 4130 aside for this comparison pricewise, we have the Omega 9900 and the Breitling B01which are better chronos in my opinion and less expensive than Zenith as well.
The Daytona’s 60th anniversary is coming up in 2023. I reckon Rolex will finally introduce a redesign to celebrate. And I’m pretty (if not entirely, of course) sure one of the things Rolex will do is introduce a new 4230 movement with a Flyback function and a 5Hz beat rate similar to Zenith and GS too. Allowing for proper 1/10 of a second measurements as well🤞 anyway, out of these two it’s a no-brainer for me…the black dial variant of this fabulous Zenith!
The zenith is a damn sexy looking watch. The ONLY thing I don't care for is the date. It just throws off the dial aesthetic in my opinion. The rolex/zenith history is always interesting to me.
I like the way the Daytona looks but not 30k+ much. I think zenith nails the look with enough original (including a beautiful movement) that is enough for me... Once I have 10k to spend.

I spoke to a sales rep for them at an AD event, he was a watch enthusiast, a good sign who the brand cares for.
@@seansimpson4129 That rather proves cultural stereotypes!
Nice video. Keep up the good work.
I have 2 questions what is the bezel made of and if the watch experiences issues who can or will fix it?? In Canadian dollars this is a thousand dollar watch and this level of watch can easily find tech support for service or repairs.
Never mind I was watching another video
Biggest plus for most is that it doesn't say "Rolex" on the dial 😉👍🏻
Thanks for your episode for Watch.
at 2:24 the rolex crown at 12 does not align as well with the hour marker.
It bothers me that the chrono hand on the zenith is missing a spot of red paint on it.
The Zenith’s chrono measures 1/10th sec/sec/min while the Crown measures sec/min/hr. Not a small difference
Just put and order down for the Zenith. Can't wait to pick it up in a few weeks!
I managed to get the white faced Chronomaster Sport. It’s simply brilliant and shouldn’t be overlooked.
I would argue though that the Omega Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph to have ever existed, Daytona a close second. The Daytona is the most desirable simply because of the crown on its dial.
The bugs life metaphor is brilliant. And spot on !
Well done @watchfinder Keep up the brilliant work/videos
What happens at 4:55 ? Do these gears move at all?
Hi do u know if the chronomaster sport has an asymmetrical lugs like the daytona? Thanks
Just when this zenith watch value is about to drop (slightly), this video pumps it up!
Either way, I can't afford neither. But here I am watching a video about watches that I can't even try on.
Yes... The waiting list will get even bigger!

You and I both.
at 1:16 the minute marker at 12 on Zenith does not align. i have wanted to buy a zenith but the qc is suspect.
2:22 the alignment of the small vertical rolex crown is even worse
you could also say that about the Omega Speed Master which pre-dates the Daytona 4-5 years.
Excellent episode
I have never been a fan of Rolex though I do like the looks of the Daytona, Omega and Zenith are preferred. It is not a matter of the cost but of the overall style.
learning about chronographs, I finally found my future grail! alot of it thanks for your channel
the Hamilton intramatic chrono is so beautiful, specifically the off-white panda dial with white trimming
this is the watch I'm going to buy when I finally graduate college!
Why not both?
The smart money will go with a pre owned Zenith!! I own the RAinbow diver model # 01/02 0471 400 picked up for $3000 usd in near perfect condition 😊
It's nice but a Speedy is my preference👍
Hello, I was wondering if you could confirm if aftermarket straps that were made for the Dayton such as Everest bands curved lugs would fit well on the zenith el primero?
🤣🤣 “Remember when the retailer was the one doing the thanking, not the other way around” Brilliant.
08:48 an inspired analogy. Brilliant.
‘Daytona Killer’ isn’t a clickbait title…
The zenith is a great watch, but please, 0% chance its production/existence reduces demand for the Daytona.
The Zenith has a mystique about it that I have never felt about a Daytona.
Glad I’m not the only one. Daytona’s for the flex. El primero gives you this mysterious feeling you can’t describe.
Give me both hahaha
Still prefer the Rolex. Whenever you put both besides, I always stare at the Daytona. It is just that good!
Is that why they could not give it away when it first came out?
Imagine You can get Daytona at retail all day, everywhere 😂 no double-triple retail, no waiting list, no grey market bollocks, no shit fake impression! And then You start thinking what do I get from Rolex for 10K and what do I get from Zenith for 10K. Would You still pick Rolex?I wouldn’t, like I wouldn’t pick 136hp 1.33 liter engine Mercedes with bad spec over fully spec KIA with over 300hp 🤣
Incredible. Finally comes the day that Watchfinder start comparing Zenith and Rolex again~!
That lume shot b-role was crazy!!! I want it now!!
Please do a review on a Seiko Mod
Yet another top class video. Keep up the good work Mr Wotchfindah ⌚
great vid, 11/10, would recommend
The Zenith is gorgeous and beautiful, and it’s more accurate. However if I’m looking down and see 1/100th of a second, it seems way to fast and just watching it seems almost to much. I’ll be curious if owners of the zenith would let me know if they felt the same way?
Own the zenith. Do not feel the same way. It’s part of what made me want it in the first place..
I tried this on recently, it is a beautiful watch, I would have bought it if I could afford it
Looking at 2022 with the watch market slowing down, I can see the Zenith on display for sale.
A great choice. And I'm a Zenith owner but I love the Omega Seamasters, particularly the chronos
I really really wish that the Zenith did not have a date window.
@Nils Eik put it at 3:00 or 6:00, but you really can't do that with this watch, so I would prefer no date.
People act like Rolex invented watches, invented date, day and everythink in the world...
when such branding is just too powerful, kinda like Apple
Great review, thank you Watchfinder. The Zenith is above my budget, but it's nice to dream.
El Primero is a fantastic watch. I would have bought El Primero but for that itch which I know wont go away. They are way too similar to me to look at to buy this. So I wait...
Brilliant! So impressed I bought the Zenith chronomaster sport.
if I want a Daytona then I want a Daytona and not a copy of the Zenith name.
It’s just that word “Rolex” that people obsess over. It’s a clever marketing scam that almost all of us have fallen for
Can't agree more with this video!
More emotion on the Zenith !!!
Great writing. Love the comparison!
I love this watch but to be honest I'd have difficulty with the judgement of DBs assuming that I really wanted/couldn't obtain a Daytona
You'll be a happier person not worrying about what douchebags think of you.
@@matt554 but you do
@@BobbyDazzler888 Only if you care about that. No-one really knows what a Zenith is anyway, they'll just see a white dial chronograph like their MVMT,
I believe the El-Primero still has a lateral clutch & single balance cock.
And they’ll sell for 250k
Thought maybe this was an Omega Speedmaster video but the Zenith works too.
The zenith is a damn sexy looking watch. The ONLY thing I don't care for is the date. It just throws off the dial aesthetic in my opinion. The rolex/zenith history is always interesting to me.
"Less expensive" not "cheaper". Good review!
I like the way the Daytona looks but not 30k+ much. I think zenith nails the look with enough original (including a beautiful movement) that is enough for me... Once I have 10k to spend.
you need to compare this zenith to the speedmaster equipped with the 9900 caliber.
I just saw the steel Daytona’s are going for £28-30k in the grey market. Madness.
