@@thaluna3555 the city...not wanting to pay for a stadium for a billionaire's sports team? Oh the humanity... To be fair, the Giants built Oracle on their own dime
@kjorlaug1 bruh fr, how tf people mad that the taxpayers don't wanna pay for multi million dollar projects that only billionaire owners of the sports teams benefits from.
@@eliice1715 to me if municipalities help with the land, I'm cool with that. We do that for other industries and developments. But the stadium? We wouldn't split the cost with GM or Toyota for a new plant.
As a long time Niner fan, I can say Levi’s has grown on me over the years. It definitely has much to be desired tho. The one thing I really do hate tho is that the private suites are on one side of the stadium while the the other side gets baked in the sun. I feel like that creates a “division” between the stadium, almost like a rich vs. poor type of feel. I wish they didn’t do that with the design.
It's like you need a game as in December last year, the Tampa Bay game, with snow on the tops of the nearby mountains, to have any sort of "coolness" on that side.
They spent 1.2 BILLION to build Levi's, just one question.....where TF did all that money go? You'd think with all that money, they could have made it look better on the outside. It looks like it's still under construction with the scaffolding still in place.
@@SilverBack-xi3lnthey were offered to buy the grass lot to the left of 101 and the right of bayshore(just next to candlestick) The city of Brisbane owns that land and they offered it to the niners for cheaper then Santa Clara lot. They never wanted to stay and part of that is also to blame on Gavin newsom who was against putting a stadium in the city when he was mayor.
I find it funny that 49ers management says a roof is not possible because of its proximity to San Jose Airport, and yet SoFi is right next to and under the flight paths for LAX (a far busier airport) and still has a roof. Of course, they also built SoFi into the ground in order to achieve this. If 49ers management had done the same with Levi's Stadium, they would be able to add a roof.
I live within about 5 minutes of the stadium, and they absolutely could've done the same thing SoFI did. Right next to the field, there are a couple of soccer fields that are dug into the ground. They could've built they field on top.
Maybe they intentionally built the stadium like that knowing they would ultimately have to build another one in a few years? Those big developers love these massive projects. The consultant fees alone are insane. Levi's does not seem like they thought - "this is going to be here for decades to come."
@@DesignRhythm It's an erector set, like at Stanford. That's not going to last very long either, and they will wish they'd kept Stanford as it originally was.

I went to Sofi and Levi stadium recently and holy crap, Sofi is a thousand times better then Levi stadium in so many ways. How did they F that up so bad?
Chargers fan here, went up to Santa Clara for SNF last year and I have to say aside from me, nobody brings the noise like the 49ers fans! They deserve way better than what they have over there.
Lotta bandwagon fans just like the warriors now that the 49ers are good though. It'll die down if things turn south like most bay area teams not the sharks
I was a bartender at Seahawks games for 10 years and I have to say the 49er's fans were the rudest of all 32 teams. Cocky smug dbags who tipped like children. Even almost got in a fight when I went down to Santa Clara for accidentally sitting in a guy's seat (in a entirely empty row) who didn't even arrive until the 2nd quarter. Again, dbag. I found Packers fans to be the most generous tippers / friendliest (and I'm a Bears fan). Steelers fans were 2nd in best behavior. I do love the 49ers history though, historic franchise with some of the NFL's goats and possibly the finest uniforms in all of the NFL.
To be fair everything about the layout of the bay is weird because of how expensive SF is. Oakland airport is actually closer to san francisco than san francisco international airport
@@ButterBro2002no its not, take 101 South and the airport is 15 minutes away. Oakland airport is like 30 minutes away from the last sf exit. Sometimes when you factor in traffic tho things get a little messy

That drive is a bitch tho, the stadium sucks and santa clara as a city fucking sucks compared to sf. Also the south bay has hella raider fans so everything is all fucked up
@@josephchavez1489 and that area remains vacant which makes it even more maddening that Candlestick was torn down and that the Niners didn't build there
I think they all make much better profits doing what they did, as opposed to rebuilding Candlestick. If it's all about money, and it is, then how is doing the most profitable thing a travesty and a crime?
I think the worst part of Levi Stadium is trying to leave. If there's an emergency or evacuation it's basically designed to crunch the crowd. A giant ditch cuts the stadium off from the town around it with just 2 walking bridges to get over. I was staying at the Hilton, literally one or two blocks away, and it took an hour to leave the stadium because crowding was so bad at those bridges. Plus, they dump you off right in the parking lot so I saw lots of people in cars waiting for a couple hours because they couldn't leave with the crowds around them.
And just to think...This is one of the main reasons that Ownership gave San Francisco for leaving. When they lied & scapegoated SF/Candlestick for being a problematic place to have a stadium. The problem is the York Ownership is from Ohio. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that the Santa Clara/San Jose location was just a piss poor choice to relocate a historic NFL franchise.
I’ve been to candlestick and Levi’s, the latter several times. Levis on average can take like 20 minutes to an hour to leave, it can be hell but if you know where to park and what you’re doing it’s not so bad. Candlestick took a flat 2 hours to get out of the stadium and over the immediate bridge. Levis is better. Still not good but San Fran actually was problematic they didn’t lie about that
I went to a pre season soccer game at Levi's between Man Utd and Real Madrid back when it was brand newish. Sold out. I had paid for reserved parking but the staff around the area would not allow me to get to the lot. They kind of forced us into an underground parking lot at an office complex about a qtr of a mile from the stadium. Whatever. At least we're there. But trying to leave. Holy crap. I swear I'm not exaggerating when I say it took 3 hours to back my car out of my parking spot. 3 hrs. 1 car length. From there it took another hr and a half to get back to get to 101 North. I swore I'd never go back. I have been there several times since. Never had to deal with that again, but it's never been easy either. I can't stand the place. It's a dumpy soulless place essentially in an office complex park. And the team should change its name ffs. It's no more San Francisco than the Sharks are. Call it San Jose if you have to, but in no way is that a San Francisco related team anymore.
I guess in their defense, San Jose/Santa Clara County is the most populous city/county in the Bay Area, and that sunshine probably feels good later in the season. But, yeah, I think the 49ers will be back north when this lease expires.
Levi's stadium is a disgrace, when compared to other new NFL stadiums. It has no "wow" factor and is actually ugly. The 49ers Faithful deserve a stadium that would make all other fan base envious. Levi's stadium was quickly forgotten by the NFL world, after it's inaugural season Shame on the York family for catering to corporations over blue collar fans. We should have a stadium that makes a statement!
You can tell that even the on air pundits calling the games are complaining about the area that Levi's is in. There is No there, there. Because it is the Suburbs, located 50 miles away from SF, & 2 Counties away from San Francisco.
@@DaveShow None of the other 31 teams wanted the SB...lol?! They are all vying for other events to hold at their stadiums. Because the Viking Stadium, which is new surely could have held the event.
@@DaveShow Just because the NFL brass awarded a Super Bowl to Levi's stadium, doesn't make it a fan favorite around the league. It's never mentioned compared to So-Fi or Mercedes Benz stadiums. So, you see, my point stands. It was forgotten by NFL fans around the league, just as soon as it opened. There's nothing special about it, other than being fairly new.
I liked going to games more at Candlestick than at Levi’s. It was a longer drive for me but I just looked at it as part of the experience. It was cool tailgating by the water and not by a bunch of tech companies. I now prefer just watching niner games on tv.
We loved it, and looked forward every game with the parking access close to the entrance!! The giants nfc championship game was one for the books.@@juandoe2994
Im on the opposite end of the spectrum. I fucking hate driving 45 minutes to get to techy ass santa clara. I much rather would drive through double rock and risk getting shot because at least it felt like home.
I have attended 3 games there. They did not get their money's worth. The Stanford stadium cost 1/10 of the Levi's Stadium and Levi is nowhere close to 10 times better.
When I heard the 49ers were getting a new stadium, I had two hopes. It would be easy to get in and out of and it would be designed to be loud on the field to give the 49ers as much of a home field advantage as possible. Neither of those things happened... Not to mention it is one of the least aesthetically appealing stadiums in the league. I went to a game at US Bank stadium in Minnesota this year and was blown away. Us 49ers fans deserve better for how much we love this team
It’s baffling to me how one of the top 3 most iconic and successful franchises in the league, with fans beyond loyal and invested for DECADES, can crap out this atrocity worse than stadiums for teams two decades old and with just enough fans to keep a 747 light 💀
Yall really reaching. The stadium beautiful and way better than candlestick. The only downside I agree with is the heat problem. Other than that, the stadium is great
Been a niners fan since 1980 and I was at US Bank stadium for the 49ers/Vikings game. That stadium is GORGEOUS. From the giant doors that open on nice days to the luxury sections, there are so many great vantage points. Also there is plenty to do around the stadium both before and after the game. 49er fans got shafted with levi stadium.
I live in the Silicon Valley. I go to several 49er games each year at Levi's Stadium. It's not a "terrible" stadium. It's just baffling that the Silicon Valley couldn't build a more unique stadium. It's in Santa Clara. With the "microclimates" of the Bay Area, it is often 15-25 degrees WARMER in Santa Clara than in San Francisco. Plus, the sun hits the eastern side of the stands -- and it is relentless until the sun goes down. This makes afternoon games (even on a 60-degree day) feel like an oven. When I visit, I always (seriously, ALWAYS) feel that Levi's Stadium should have cost half as much as AT&T Stadium (home of the Cowboys). Yet, it cost considerably MORE. I just can't help but wonder where the money went. The food is, uh, okay. Nothing really stands out there. However, the food is crazy expensive (as opposed to Oracle Park where the San Francisco Giants play -- where you can even bring outside food into the stadium). Views are great in the stadium. However, Levi's Stadium feels like a good college stadium or low-end NFL stadium. I always wish that the 49ers could have had a new stadium built in San Francisco (either at Candlestick Point or at the Presidio). After all, both the Giants and the Warriors were able to get their places built in the city. Yet, the City politicians balked and Santa Clara decided to build. It's still disappointing -- even if it is closer to my home in Palo Alto. I still go to the games (and I'm not really a 49ers fan -- but a football fan in general). In fact, I take the train and light rail directly to the stadium. It's very easy -- and cheaper than parking. I just always feel that it's the stadium that we got "stuck" with instead of the one that would have better represented the team and area.
The views from the SF Giants MLB Park are so freaking beautiful. You can see the bay, the east bay hills, & I even saw a ship sail by the last time I went. This is what we all wanted for the 49ers, the 5 time super bowl champions deserved better than what they got in Santa Clara.
Must you call it “Oracle”? I know, they bought the naming rights after AT&T decided they’d rather snuggle with Jerry Jones…but I miss the original name…Pacific Bell Park. I guess I’m old, feeling nostalgic…
Could have been done much better , and in downtown San Jose . Why didn't they build it there ? The Santa Clara location id disappointing , the stadium is set in the wrong direction , and the corporate suite section is way too big .
Couldn't agree more!!! I remember all the talk about how much was spent on this stadium, but it ended up feeling like bragging that you paid $100k on a Camry. I really wish it was a convertible dome stadium
I’m not a Niners fans(Rams fan) but truly feel they should’ve built a new stadium on the Candlestick site. There’s was just to much history to walk away from the city of San Francisco. As a football fan today’s stadium need to be fan friendly and especially if a team is asking there fans to dole out a lot of money😉

San Francisco has football weather in the summer and baseball weather in the fall. The unintended consequence of these new "corporate" stadiums in SF, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, etc. is the elimination of home-field advantage.
Exactly 👉! Even Jerry's world get swarmed by opposing team's fans................these new stadiums have made them travel destinations for visiting fans. Me as a 49er fan would never think of visiting the Washington stadium but would love to visit Dallas.
Try selling out games lol. This never happens in Pittsburgh or Buffalo cuz they actually have fans and they actually sell out every game no matter what. Has absolutely nothing to do with “corporate” stadiums, has everything to do with having small fanbases that don’t really care.
@@frdjr2527 Not to get off topic but until the Local/Regional NFL Home TV blackouts was basically almost eliminated a few years (there are still some exceptions)the NFL would usually schedule at least 1x a season both the Giants and Jets in the last 2 weeks of the regular season with Saturday Afternoon games either at Old Shea (Jets) or Old Giants/Meadowlands Stadium(Giants and Jets.)
I agree with everything in this video except for only three things: 1. The Light Rail system for Levi’s makes it SO MUCH EASIER to take Bart to the games. Public transport was a nightmare on candlestick considering the fact that we had to take a bus at hunter’s point (one of the notorious neighborhoods of SF) 2. Having Levi’s in Santa Clara isn’t “moving away from the fans” considering that it borders San Jose which is the most populated city in Northern California and a lot of die-hard Niner fans live in SJ (At this rate there are more fans in SJ than SF) 3. You forgot to mention how in Santa Clara you’re a lot less likely to get Bipped (slang for having your car broken into) than in San Francisco. Especially in Bay View/Hunter’s Point
Bippers target tourists, crowds and unprotected areas. You’re just as likely to get bipped in SC if your car is unattended, unprotected and near the stadium, since that’s exactly what they’re looking for. Ppl get their cars broken into at Levi’s all the time.
WIth SF being the worst city in america, santa clara by far way better for the 49ers. You would hve to pay me good money to go to Garage SF for anything
Moving to Santa Clara is moving away from the fans... it's like saying, "It's ok to move them to Sacramento because there's lots of 9er fans in Sacramento." The South Bay is boring and soulless
@@pitech4446 Being honest, I don’t know if agree is SF is the worst big city area for crime/affordability. Only been to the Bay area 1x in my life in summer 1995 saying this. IMO in no order, Memphis, St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, etc. all have much worse crime stats than SF. Not saying that in past 10-15 years or so that SF has gone down hill i.e cost of living, extreme homelessness etc. With that said, there are other Big Cities in America that are much more dangerous IMO.
As someone who lived close enough to the old Candlestick I could hear the air horn blast whenever they scored I do miss the team not being here, I looked into public transit to get there but an hour+ long ride on a crowded train, and then having to take another light rail that takes another 30+ minutes to get to the stadium, really just says "stay away" to me. The lack of local places really means any "economic impact" that sports teams and politicians like to say a team brings to the city will be relatively inconsequential. Plus the "new stadium tax" for tickets makes going to a game simply out of the question for me, especially if they're doing well.
As someone who’s a pilot, and flew out of Daytona Beach with the race track there, yeh it can be very distracting when your on final and see a huge amount of lights
Great video. The stadium isn’t horrible, it’s just bland and doesn’t look like a new stadium. It is one of the worst newest stadium. The location is also awful. There nothing around. You can walk before or after the game to a store, restaurant, bar etc. It is not walkable, traffic is horrible, parking is horrible, transportation is horrible, there is no meaning to the location, no scenery, it gets hot, fans burn, nearby airport problems, it’s very expensive, fans want better than this. You are correct sir. I have been to a hand full of away games and the stadiums are always way better than Levis. Home games are not the same since the stick days.
Candlestick park was the only place you could get frostbite and heatstroke in the same game. Levi is the only place you can feel like you got kicked in the balls without actually being kicked in the balls.
On point. But should have also talked about the horrible parking too. Different lots spread out for miles. 2+ hours to get out if you stay til the end of the game. Just terrible. My season tickets have gone up 2k+ since 2012. Yorks suck, period.

I've been a niner fan since John Brodie days. Just when they moved to candlestick, the place was a second home to me. I enjoyed it immensely. It was 20 minutes from where I lived at the time. And it was great and of course that incredible history of the park and the stadium itself. Maybe the location wasn't that great. but the place could have been redone better and of course, building the new place down in Santa Clara. Never really made sense to me. I haven't been there yet. It's so expensive in such a long drive now and everyone I talk to complains about the heat and the access. I have yet to go there. And I'm as big a niner as you can imagine emotionally.
You're Right ! People in Buffalo, Philly, Cleveland, Chicago and Green Bay don't even like football. They just enjoy sitting in sub-freezing stadiums a few weekends as year. Ram fans think a cold weather game happens when they set the A/C in the stadium below 75 degrees.
Getting financially booted from our seating area was expected but the lack of shade in the early months is shameful. This year, our parking passes were pulled from us with no explanation or warning. So uncomfortable conditions and no more tailgating is really making us question if it is worth it to continue being season ticket holders as we have been since 1990.
I was a season ticket holder at the Stick and gave them up the 2nd season after Levi’s opened. SBL kept rising and couldn’t sell a parking pass because the limitation zones for tailgating. I miss Candlestick.
First and foremost Eddie D loved San Francisco. He had a Staduim deal done in the late 90s. But after he gave up his ownership to his sister the plans went to crap. I hate the Yorks. I wish they would sell the team
Amen...You & me both! If the 49ers ever win a Super Bowl, I can't even imagine the team having a parade down Market Street in San Francisco. Because ownership has Sold Out to San Jose?! And personally, I don't even want them to have a parade in SF, because the Yorks effed us over when they scapegoated the city to move to Santa Clara/San Jose.
This guy gets it. How dare anyone ever speak ill of the Don Eddie D? The Don even bought the goal post from the Catch and had Clark's ashes buried by the right post, he is the embodiment of our team. The Yorks can go back to Youngstown and manage a lacrosse team or whatever they do there. With the recent U-turn in success and franchise management over the past few years I can't help but assume the Don is back to pulling the strings behind the stage. With that in mind, I wouldn't want anyone else to buy managerial rights to the team, cuz we've been going in the right direction.
@@hadlee189 If the Niners win a Super Bowl, the parade would be in SF. In SF, a Niners championship parade would be like the Giants 3 championship parades last decade and the Warriors championship parade in SF in 2022.
I went to my one and only NFL game (on holiday from Ireland) in Levi Stadium and thought it was the most unenjoyable stadium I have ever visited. It was impossible to get to/from, it was absolutely freezing on a Monday night (which was our own fault admittedly). Getting to the stadium was a pain (we had a car) but getting out of the $50 (which seemed insane to us) parking lot was 2 HOURS! Not really knowing the area, it seemed like a stadium in the middle of nowhere with nothing worthwhile even close to it. Myself and now wife wondered if we were missing something, but this video proves everything we thought at the time. In Europe stadiums tend to be built close to cities, with public transport a key focus. I said to wife at the time NFL owners must just take fan support for granted because a stadium built in such a poor location in Europe would have fans up in arms before a sod was turned. Enjoyed the game, but that stadium is terrible. SF fans and the city deserve better than they got here I felt, but I haven't been to other stadiums to compare either.
Detroit has 3 stadia (for the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings) all within 4 blocks of each other and all within a 1/2 mile downtown to the south or mid-town to the north. You can walk back to a hotel, apartment/condo or to dozens of places before or after the game. It is a fantastic urban environment, but Detroit is not a tourist destination.
As a Bay Area local, I can tell you that the majority of Niners fans are NOT from SF proper. The move to Levi's probably made it more convenient for more fans than Candlestick was. Another example that has been made more evident recently is with the proposed move of the A's. Even though it says Oakland on their jersey, most of the fans don't live in Oakland. However, all of the stadium political dealings were done with Oakland itself, despite it affecting far more people than within the city limits. This is the problem with the Bay Area, in that there are so many jurisdictions, whereas somewhere like NYC is still NYC, be it Brooklyn, Bronx. etc.
That's a great assessment. The problem with Bay Area teams in general, in sports is that leagues are so hell bent on having multiple teams in the region and expect it not to be a strain on both the teams and cities in question. You put a team in NYC, it can just be New York. You don't have to fuck around with "but is it Brooklyn or Queens, or Manhattan?" because the answer will be "who gives a fuck". The only league that did the Bay Area thing right, ironically, was probably the NHL. And that's with the hindsight of how the Seals flopped, they recognized that it was equal parts an ownership and marketing issue with the Seals, and didn't allow that to repeat with the Sharks. Now the Sharks, who play in neither SF nor Oakland, have a solid share of hardcore fans in the ENTIRE bay area, and the team isn't constantly dipsydoodling between cities (which are more like municipalities in one big metropolitan area, not dissimilar to New York). The Sharks not only did it, they did it first try in a sport with less money and less attention. Meaning the A's, 49ers, Giants and Warriors have zero excuse by comparison to be doing the same thing... and all be doing it worse in some form. The issue from the very beginning was treating Oakland and San Francisco as such separate entities- I wouldn't put the Dolpins in Fort Lauderdale, call them the Miami Dolphins, then expect the entire Metro area to give a shit. Just doesn't make sense- why is the Bay Area doing it?
@@N_manMETA11Well the A's at one time were looking at the South Bay for a stadium, but the Giants supposedly had territory rights to the area. This still makes no sense to me, eventhough the A's gave up the rights for them to build a stadium in Santa Clara in 1990s, which we all know didn't happen.. Also, distance between Santa Clara and San Francisco is longer than the distance between Citi Field and Yankee stadium. A stadium could have been built there years ago. So I put half the blame on the Giants. The other half are the owner. I do not believe that these cities should have to pay for stadiums. The last place they talked about building a stadium was at Howard Terminal but it doesn't have the great mass transit that the Oakland Coliseum has. The best place would have been were the parking lot and arena is. However, like the man with the worst $200 haircut, the A's owner was never going to stay. The Coliseum is a dump. The team is bad. Attendance is abysmal. I'm really suprised they didn't leave awhile ago. However, the owner will have to actually go out to field a team once they are in Las Vegas.
Some of this video is spot on (the heat issues for example). Much of it is complete bullshit. The entire discussion of being "40 miles away from residential centers" reflects a complete disconnect with the realities of the Bay Area. Santa Clara County has 3-4 million people. Santa Clara is actually far closer to the population centers in the Bay Area than any San Francisco location. San Francisco's population of barely 800K never fully supported the 49ers. More importantly the entire discussion of public transportation is completely wrong. Getting into and out of Candlestick point has always been and will always be a disaster. As someone who has been a longtime 49er season ticket holder, my drive to and out of Levi's is now 25 minutes while it was 90+ minutes to Candlestick. The complaint that "there's nothing to do other than attend the game" was ALSO an issue in San Francisco -- and one now, in the post-COVID world, would be even worse. That said, there has been a development plan to create an NFL / 49er themed destination across the street from Levi's on the table for a while now. To circle back to the glaring sun / heat issue, the video doesn't even mention that the 49ers struck a deal that no pre-season home game starts before 5:30 / 7p at night. This largely mitigates the biggest heat issues for 49er fans. For all the complaints and issues that this video raise, there are no solutions or mitigations included at all suggesting that these issues have been ignored and not at least acknowledged.
In my very humble opinion, Ownership lied, & scapegoated SF/Candlestick. How...Because Levi's share some of the same issues that Candlestick had! The weather, access to the stadium is "not" right off of the freeway, the stadium is in the flight path of the SJ airport, parking is piss poor at Levi's. And FYI, go look at a map of California, what major city do U see at the center of the state, San Francisco! Santa Clara County is a very LARGE COUNTY. Made up of the smaller towns of Sunnyvale Mtn. View, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose! San Francisco is a City and a County, SF didn't gobble up other smaller towns. This is the problem with outside Ownerships, they do get the dynamics of the Bay Area. And it is why I am a advocate of local, or somebody from California having Ownership of sports teams. San Jose, & SF are night & day, one is Suburban, the other is Urban. Even the pundits calling the 9er games are complaining! They see the issues with being located far away in Santa Clara/San Jose, yet showing pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge?! The Yorks need to change the name of the team, but they want their cake & to eat it too.
Have you ever been to the Giants game? Many people think it is the BEST baseball stadium. Meanwhile Levi's maybe the WORST NFL stadium (at least worst NEW one). How can one city have both the best and worst stadiums?
Great video, Im a rams fan I hate NorCal and the niners but Ill admit the Niners deserve so much better. Look some aspects I really like about Levis stadium but it’s just not good enough for one of the most important historical teams in nfl history. The niners deserve so much better
This is on Ownership...This is why I am always a big advocate of local ownership. The exception was Eddie DeBartolo, who is the brother of the current owner. They are all from Ohio, & don't understand the dynamics of the Bay Area. San Jose & San Francisco are Day & Night...One is Suburban, & the other is Urban. When SF was called the New York City of the West, San Jose was just a small Farming Town.
At least the Niners stayed close to SF and you can still go to a game and not spend a lot of money for hotel rooms, flights and other stuff, unless you're coming from out of state. As a Raiders fan, fans lost their team to Vegas. There is no home team atmosphere, tail gating, and its super expensive to watch a game in person.
As a native SFer and life 49er fan moving the stadium to the South Bay totally changed the fan base to a bunch of sloppy, overweight people. Sure Silicon Valley is there but that isn't really who comes to the games. The SF Giants fan base probably reflects the more historically authentic fan base of San Francisco.
BS...Look at a map of California, San Francisco is at the center point of the state?! San Jose & Santa Clara County is nothing but Suburban Sprawl, made up of several smaller towns, that make up One big County! Such as Sunnyvale, San Jose, Alviso, Cupertino, Mountain View etc...Santa Clara County is TWO Counties away from the City the Team is named for, my gawd! Now I don't really give an Eff if you, the South Bay/Central Valley Fans, & Ownership believe the 49ers belong in Santa Clara/San Jose....But "PLEASE" change the name of the damn team, so that maybe San Francisco can get their own team. And stop pimping my city's name out for San Jose.
Guess I need a new map too from Hadlee. Mine also shows WAY more people live South of 'Frisco than North. You'd think those Google people would know their Map is wrong since they live there.
@@KaisasDad Bruh go buy a freaking clue?! The South Bay is "not" where the 49ers legacy & history is! San Francisco is, do U not know what a Forty Niners are??? And the city they came to when they struck GOLD? Hint, is was not the South Bay. And I could give a flying fig less if Suburban Sprawl has a larger population?! That's yet another bs talking point the Yorks made up, that doesn't mean shit. Later Bruh, done with ya!
Live in SF, went to a game there a few years ago. Two hrs to get there using public transit. 3 and a half hr game . Sun was hot and glare made it hard to see the ball. two and a half hrs to get home. Not again
Well, Houston has a beautiful stadium for the Texans. Should do a stadium about the Ravens. The open air stadiums are the best overall quality, & it can show what the visiting team is made of in unfamiliar conditions.
Been going to Niner games since 87 and I got to say, I miss candlestick. When I go to Levi's I have to sit in the shade so basically half the stadium is cut off for me cause of the heat, unless I go to a night game. It's easier to get free parking at Levi's though since there's a Walmart about a mile away and an apartment complex just over the levy about a quarter mile from the main gate. Went to the Vikings playoff game in 2019 and parked at the apartment complex with no issues. Saved $100 in parking fees which paid for my hotel stay and even got a few steps in.
I hate all the same issues mentioned in this video- even as a Canadian-American originally from New England who's never actually been to one of my 49ers games. But I do love that Levi's is the only simple stadium of the West. Like with Qwest, Levi's is like the Buffalo Bills' stadium of the west. A venue built for football on the west coast, whereas SoFi is like a venue meant to be an entertainment spectacle. I don't really want a super stadium.
It was a major mistake not working something out to keep the stadium in San Fran. Making a day of it in San Fran for a good meal then hitting a game after is what people like to do if not tail gating. I don't want to eat at a cookie cutter restaurant in Santa Clara...
Playing games in the elements is part of the intrigue of football! In LA, if it is raining, fans will still stay away just so they don’t get wet in the parking lot!
I had season tix at that lovable giant urinal Candlestick Park for years. When they invited me to visit the Santa Clara site to see if I wanted to have season tix there, I took one look at the seat choices offered (in the direct sun) and it was a no brainer not to buy them. No way I'd travel down to Santa Clara from The City 10+ times a season and deal with heatstroke and a commute nightmare.
You wonder why the 49ers didn't consider the location of the former Southern Pacific Bayshore Yard in Daly City to build a new stadium. It would have been perfect, because there was plenty of land for parking and close access to Caltrain (and even possibly a MUNI Light Rail extension). Maybe the cost of environmental mitigation before construction was way too high?
If its anything like the old Souther Pacific rail yards here in Sacramento.........I understand why they didn't build there. The land here in sacramento is still contaminated. The city of sacramento has been trying to get the federal govt to clean it up for decades.
I can see that too. It seems like the Niners and Santa Clara always have issues. A few days ago I saw an article where I guess there's an issue over employees in Santa Clara working on Christmas Day because the Niners will be playing at Levi's on Christmas night or something like that? At some point, there's going to be a breaking point between the Niners and Santa Clara, and maybe the Niners look to move back to SF, or closer to SF. Hopefully the Niners do move to SF one day. It would make sense to have the 3 most popular teams in the Bay (Niners, Warriors, SF Giants) play in SF, the epicenter of the Bay.
You can’t do too much because the planes flying over from San Jose airport. If you go to the games you can really see how low the planes are so that me a no roof. But all for a better stadium.
The stadium itself is great. I don't get all of the hate it gets. I love that it's not a SoFi, Allegiant, or "Jerry World" type stadium. It's football and should be outside in the elements on natural grass. I love the look of Levi's Stadium too. It's very different than all of the others. Yes the weather sucks for games in Sept. But guess what? It sucks for many other teams that time of year too.
I agree with you on the outdoor elements being a positive and I really dig the interior design of the stadium and how easy it is to navigate within it. The only thing I really dislike is the exterior of the stadium, it looks so plain. I wish they could cover up the white beams with some heavy duty plexi glass or just cover them up completely with a solid wall.
Totally agree. Open-air, seats close to the field, real grass, what's not to like? Much better than all of those tacky indoor stadia. It seems that most of the complaints have to do with ancillary issues like location and transit.
The most glaring problem with Levi's is that there is no There, There...Even the on air pundits are complaining about it?! The doggone stadium is located in the suburbs, a business park, & an amusement park. And nowhere near the city of San Francisco!
@@hadlee189i used to feel this way to but SF is a shithole now and isnt necessarily a "family friendly" enviroment when u compare it to the south bay. Hence why the raiders left and the A's as well.
@@tj5779 Apparently you have bought into the hype about SF. Most of the issues are located in the Tenderloin as far as homelessness & drugs. The crime basically comes in from the East Bay, aka Oakland. But I have to tell you that the South Bay isn't no pray book either, they have their crime also.
04:48 i do not agree ! The stadium WAS designed for santa clara and the owner wanted us to think it was done for SF to get the impression their intention was to stay in SF. And that they simply copy it for santa clara. Why am i so certain ? Because the design had no sense at candlestick park were you have all the land you want. In santa clara they had to deal with the railway on the west side, the road on the north side, the power grid on the south side and their HQ on the east side. So the only way to deal with that was to have an unbalanced stadium with all the suites on one side. I went to Levi’s and to Allegiant. Boy our stadium seems already old and not up to par…
Lifetime 49ers fan, i was there for the opening game at Levi's Stadium, as well as the third and then the last game of the season that year. At first, the city transport was not ready for the events. Now, its such a great place to go. It's actually easier to get to now than candlestick was, lots of room for talegates, and the stadium has great layout for visuals. I don't know anyone who has any problems with the levi stadium in 2023
This why Lumen field did it right. It’s huge, has so many things to do nearby, has amazing views all around, and there’s not one bad seat in the venue.
I have been to Lumen field several times and it has a ton of bad seats...I sat in the hawks nest which was fun but the top section is awful everyone looks like ants, the stairs are very narrow up there too...Felt like I was going to fall backwards. *Though Lumen field is a great place for the experience because it gets so loud.
I miss candlestick I basically grew up there. I started going to games when I was four years old with my family and we have a season ticket games until the last season. I’ve been to Levi a couple times and for every playoff game that’s there I can say with confidence that has a fan I feel like I wasn’t seen. The new stadium was just a reason for them to make money.
I’m a die hard Niners fan. I was super young but I’ve been to candlestick twice loved it right off the bay always perfect weather for me atleast I’m from Central Valley ca were the weather is dry heat all the time. First game at Levi’s I was probably 13 years old and was very disappointed. Over the years I’ve gotten to love Levi’s but it will never compare to candlestick. I’m predicting in about 20 years the 49ers will make the move back to San Fran possibly on the same lot as candlestick since they haven’t built the office builds they’re yet they said. I believe this is the plan after they realized how bad this stadium turned out.
Have never been to Levi, but have been to Keisar and lots of time at Candlestick. I agree they should've redone the Stick. They are the San Francisco team , not Santa Clara.
Levi’s was built too quickly without much due diligence. Hence the ignorance of the heat, lack of traffic flow, overall terrible architecture, and amenities. They should have built it on Treasure Island and offered high speed ferries from all around the bay in addition to the two arteries via the Bay Bridge.
They built it fast because Jed York thought somebody outside of Santa Clara was going to sue him. Because Santa Clara was suing at the time too. But of course, he had bought off the city council of Santa Clara, & the mayor also.
@gogreen7794 why would they give a fuck? Those ppl chose to live where its cold, and these ppl live where it's hot. Stick to the subject, stop making it about you. Damn Packers fans
They need a new stadium back in San Francisco not in Santa Clara, if you have to move it to San Jose. But it needs to be back in a city, It would be so beneficial
Owners should pay for their own stadiums. Why have the cities foot the bill? San Francisco has bigger issues to deal with. If fans don't want to go then by all means, boycott. See if the owner/league will pay. The Chargers left Sand Diego because their owner didn't want to pay and neither did San Diego. Now they're second fiddle in LA. 3rd if you count being behind a more prolific USC squad.
i dont think they or the league have ever said this, but ive noticed in recent years they have sort of tried to escape the heat by having more away games early in the season and the home games they do have the first half tend to be primetime games which are played at night (well 5 pm) so theres less heat in the evening
I am a season-ticket holder at Levi Stadium when the stadium was first built we were so excited until we went to our first game. I know two people there. Got heat stroke. Goodness my side is on the side with the shade just by left didn’t pick out or anything just happen to bethey should’ve never built the stadium. If they knew that this airport would be a problem. I use this airport as well. Very busy and it is real close 49er executives did not think it went through but we love our team goers we got the number one seed
I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with Levi’s, I’ve been there a couple of times. But I do think that as San Francisco is the land of Big tech, and insane wealth, they should’ve done some crazy futuristic and Bay Area inspired stadium. Not a standard advertising unit.
Relative to other stadiums, it's garbage. No one is saying there is inherently wrong, it's a soulless multipurpose stadium created with greed and no love.
I am a season ticket member and I sit on the sunny side of the stadium. The pre-season and early season games are hot as hell!!! Maybe they should be night games early in the season to help with that. Also I drive from Los Angeles to attend the games the lack of anything to do around the stadium after the game is a drag. We try to kill time to let traffic die out before getting back on the highway but there is nothing around.
Yeah, I don’t even live in Cali, and I’m sad about Levi. Missed a great opportunity to build a great stadium. I’d have been happier with them playing at Stanford for a couple seasons again and watching them rebuild where candlestick was as opposed to what we got.
I’ve been to both candlestick and Levi’s for niners games. Candlestick was like a Mecca experience every time. Levi’s fucking felt like I was in prison. The engineers really botched this one. I could’ve designed a way better stadium experience. It’s like they tried to make it suck as much as possible. Not going to any games because it sucks so fucking much. Hella damn far away, nothing but industrial or commercial properties nearby, overpriced tickets, parking sucks, hot as shit in the sun, no real tailgating. Miserable experience.
York and the architects visited every stadium in the NFL to glean the best ideas. Yet they failed to put a roof on from the blazing sun. The architects said they don’t normally do an environmental study! Talk about stupidity!
Thanks for putting this together, as a former season ticket holder at candlestick and San Francisco native. I went to the open house at Levi Stadium and would never go back. I got out of my season tickets and prefer to just watch them on TV now. Congratulations to the greed of the 49er organization. I am a fan of the players however, the ownership can go screw themselves.
The biggest drawback to Candlestick was that there was literally no room to navigate on the concourse. its was two lines and was super slow. Levis is way more spacious and very easy walk around without any hassle. the suite for sure is the worst part. they could easily flipped the stadium 180 and have tinted windows for the suites and everyone would have shade. if you gonna pay for catering, tv, and ac then the sun is the last of your worries
I hate the place ! First time my wife and I went to an early season game and fried in the sun on the east side. It is also a long drive for us and there is nothing to do in Santa Clara. When the games were at Candlestick you had the city right there, shopping, museums, great choices in food/dining, and it was fun for us to make a week end out of it. The games at Levi's now is a get in-get out deal. And it's ugly on the outside. I now limit my games to one or two away games only. We plan these trips to follow the niners to different cities to support the team but go to Levi's,.....Never again.
Ugly looking stadium, long drive from SF, no roof, too many corporate boxes, traffic, parking, wrong location. Shocking how they messed up so much with this stadium.
They should've done what Denver did and built the new stadium in the parking lot of the old one and then turned the old stadium into a new parking area. Eddie LOVED the 49ers and did everything to make it a winning franchise. His sister however, HATED her brother and actually stated that she wanted to destroy everything he built with the 49ers. But she's smart, she learned from the Rams owner that the NFL is the ultimate boys club, so she put her husband and then son out as figurehead leaders, SHE is the one making the decisions NOT them. But she saw in this new stadium a way to make a lot of quick money. She reminds me a LOT of the female owner in the movie Major League. Because she also could care less about the fans. As far as the stadium, its ugly and plain. doesn't stand out in any way or make a great impression. Almost dangerous upper deck stairs that are so steep you feel like your going to fall over just walking down them and for a stadium in silicon valley has horrible wifi and tech, except of course for all the rich people in those special areas like the boxes and clubs. For the attendance, it just shows how stupid fans are. They can be insulted (the kneeling and disrespecting the flag), taken for suckers (the super high prices for season and regular tickets with less offered to them vs what they had before), and taken for granted (as shown in this video by the location, position and the rest), and they'll still show up and justify the callousness of this owner towards them. I went once to the new stadium and will NEVER go back, I do miss Candlestick.
But when you build something new you would expect a upgrade right. This case they went backwards in my opinion. One thing I miss about Candlestick is partying after a win. Now you just party in parking lots lol
I never liked the new location or the design. To me it was penny pinching corporate greed that led to such bad decisions on location and design. How could any builder and architect not know that the proximity to the airport would prevent a roof being added later. How could the City and the FAA allow a structure to be placed right in line with the landing pattern and how about the constant noise of landing aircraft during games. The fans do deserve better than that garbage heap. Oh - not to mention it's bloody ugly.
It's an elitist stadium. It was made for the wealthy, and the Silicon Valley elites. It's an abhorrent stadium. A slap to the fanbase as a whole. But the large majority of the 49ers fans are mindless sheep, so it works out.
Levi's Stadium is a shit hole. The location is terrible and the stadium itself sucks. The club sections like United Club and Yahoo Fantasy look like a homeless shelter. Every stadium built after Levi's stadium or around the same time completely shits on Levi's Stadium. Anyone that says they actually like Levi's Stadium should go to Mercedes Benz, SoFi, US Bank and sit in their club seating and come back and tell me you like Levi's. Stop it😂
When you are tight asses like the York's. You get what you pay for. And please do not throw Eddie in there with them. They are not the same. The Faithful love, and honor Eddie.
The Rams kept their home name as "Los Angeles," even when they played in Anaheim (which is just as far away). Also, the Jets and Giants are still branded as "New York," even though they now play in New Jersey.

There were two minor league hockey teams that played in the Cow Palace, but neither team lasted very long. The MLB Angels rebranded from Anaheim to LA, because many So Cal baseball followers may have seen them as only representing Orange County. The name change may have been an attempt to compete with Dodger and Padre fans throughout the rest of So Cal. Did this move accomplish that objective? I don't know.
I went to Levi’s for the first time and I and many other people in my section immediately noticed that too
Really. They should have built it east to west, not north to south.

You think its quick to evacuate the stadiums like Sofi or the Meadowlands?
You're right, regardless of the stadium, we're talking about thousands of fans. In an emergency, people can and will get hurt.

It was definitely a vibe. Sucked for the residents I'm sure tho
True that homie
Yup. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.
Other than that, the stadium is great
The acoustics are terrible for concerts also
Been a niners fan since 1980 and I was at US Bank stadium for the 49ers/Vikings game. That stadium is GORGEOUS. From the giant doors that open on nice days to the luxury sections, there are so many great vantage points. Also there is plenty to do around the stadium both before and after the game. 49er fans got shafted with levi stadium.
Jed, is that you?@@josephchavez1489
Just say your rich
I’m not a Niners fans(Rams fan) but truly feel they should’ve built a new stadium on the Candlestick site. There’s was just to much history to walk away from the city of San Francisco. As a football fan today’s stadium need to be fan friendly and especially if a team is asking there fans to dole out a lot of money😉
Candlestick was across the street from the projects in the worst neighborhood in the city. Also, traffic was a nightmare.
@@-NFiN8- And the traffic, weather, parking, & access to the stadium is that much better at Levi's??? Lmao!!! According to reports the Tenderloin is the worst hood in SF?!

I feel like they at least large canopies protecting fans from the elements
And probably did more research on where to build a stadium
Try selling out games lol. This never happens in Pittsburgh or Buffalo cuz they actually have fans and they actually sell out every game no matter what. Has absolutely nothing to do with “corporate” stadiums, has everything to do with having small fanbases that don’t really care.
MetLife sells out for Giants and Jets games but I'd say 25-35 percent of crowd is visiting fans.
Fantastic content! It's wild how they just used the same San Francisco design without changing it.
I agree with everything in this video except for only three things:
1. The Light Rail system for Levi’s makes it SO MUCH EASIER to take Bart to the games. Public transport was a nightmare on candlestick considering the fact that we had to take a bus at hunter’s point (one of the notorious neighborhoods of SF)
2. Having Levi’s in Santa Clara isn’t “moving away from the fans” considering that it borders San Jose which is the most populated city in Northern California and a lot of die-hard Niner fans live in SJ (At this rate there are more fans in SJ than SF)

45 miles from San Francisco is ridiculous.
On point. But should have also talked about the horrible parking too. Different lots spread out for miles. 2+ hours to get out if you stay til the end of the game. Just terrible. My season tickets have gone up 2k+ since 2012. Yorks suck, period.
Greed caused this and fans deserve better! But, if the fans keep attending, then the greed will never end.

Give Levi's Stadium to the Athletics and go back to SF!
Yup absolutely correct! Tailgating on gravel, hot as hell with no breeze, basically in the middle of a suburb. Hate it so much
At least the Niners stayed close to SF and you can still go to a game and not spend a lot of money for hotel rooms, flights and other stuff, unless you're coming from out of state. As a Raiders fan, fans lost their team to Vegas. There is no home team atmosphere, tail gating, and its super expensive to watch a game in person.
As a Niner fan that’s hella sad bro. I see that shit on TV all the time. That would never happen in Oakland. I love the old Oakland Raiders.
Just out of curiosity was this video made based on personal experiences going to any of the NFL Stadiums mentioned, or just Google searches?
As a native SFer and life 49er fan moving the stadium to the South Bay totally changed the fan base to a bunch of sloppy, overweight people. Sure Silicon Valley is there but that isn't really who comes to the games. The SF Giants fan base probably reflects the more historically authentic fan base of San Francisco.
Here comes the smug… like there’s no fatties, weirdos, sloppy folk and vatos in SF right?
The population is significantly higher in the south bay and San Jose than San Francisco. The 49ers actually moved closer to their fan base
The city of sacramento has been trying to get the federal govt to clean it up for decades.
the seahawks may completely suck, but at least we have a good stadium in downtown Seattle
As a Niner fan I have to agree with you. The Seahawks have a beautiful stadium in the downtown area.
I think they will move back to San Francisco! They're looking for a deal like G.State Warriors!
Might as well be known as the San Jose 49ers for all intents and purposes now...
Thanks for this video! Super informative and condensed into 11 minutes - from a die-hard 49ers fan.
I don't know anyone who has any problems with the levi stadium in 2023
Should have revamped Kezar. That's the REAL area where the 49ers belong.
Everytime i go to that stadium i wonder why those chose this place.
This makes me so happy to be an eagles fans where the owners of broad St teams work together and rep the city for the fans
Meanwhile, Giants and Warriors stadiums are within walking distance from each other...
They built under the flight path to SJC and the FAA sensibly won't let them dome it.
They wanted money.
Hunter's Point would have been better and easily remediated.
Been there won't go back.
@@toomanyuserids Superfund sites aren't easily remediated
Why do they want a roof? Because it gets hot? Poor babies. What about those fans who sit in the snow and cold and revel in it?
@gogreen7794 why would they give a fuck? Those ppl chose to live where its cold, and these ppl live where it's hot. Stick to the subject, stop making it about you. Damn Packers fans
They need a new stadium back in San Francisco not in Santa Clara, if you have to move it to San Jose. But it needs to be back in a city, It would be so beneficial
They paid 2 Billion dollars for a 10 cent stadium
Owners should pay for their own stadiums. Why have the cities foot the bill? San Francisco has bigger issues to deal with. If fans don't want to go then by all means, boycott. See if the owner/league will pay. The Chargers left Sand Diego because their owner didn't want to pay and neither did San Diego. Now they're second fiddle in LA. 3rd if you count being behind a more prolific USC squad.
Levi Stadium looks like it was designed by a high school intern. Its stunningly ugly
i dont think they or the league have ever said this, but ive noticed in recent years they have sort of tried to escape the heat by having more away games early in the season and the home games they do have the first half tend to be primetime games which are played at night (well 5 pm) so theres less heat in the evening
very well put together video. its clear 49ers left their hardcore fanbase in favor for rich nerds who know ZERO about the sport.
Same here, SF native, long time Niner fan. But I'm definitely not a fan of the 49ers Ownership, they did San Francisco dirty.
It is also a long drive for us and
there is nothing to do in Santa Clara.
When the games were at Candlestick you had the city right there, shopping, museums, great choices in food/dining, and it was fun for us to
make a week end out of it. The games at Levi's now is a get in-get out deal.
And it's ugly on the outside.
I now limit my games to one or two away games only. We plan these trips to follow the niners to different cities to support the team but go
to Levi's,.....Never again.
Ugly looking stadium, long drive from SF, no roof, too many corporate boxes, traffic, parking, wrong location. Shocking how they messed up so much with this stadium.
Most of the fans were from the San Jose area.
I love Levi's, definitely don't want a dome
Edit; i did cry when they knocked down Candle Stick 😢
Perfect place for the Lions to crush the 9ers and to NEVER win a Superbowl ever again. 🦾🦁🤳🏽 Go Lions!!!
@@GTek-ew1wh didn't age too well
If they were going to move they should've made it in Fairfield Ca. Plenty of land cheap and close the the Suisun, Napa and Sonoma Wine Country.
A stadium is just a stadium, the fans make it home 🏡😎 THEY give it character.
Clearly the owners and most of them don’t give a shit how fans feel. It’s a business for them
Levi's Stadium is a shit hole. Stop it😂
You're 100% Right!
When you are tight asses like the York's. You get what you pay for. And please do not throw Eddie in there with them. They are not the same. The Faithful love, and honor Eddie.
It's The San Francisco Bay Area, so the whole argument that they should no longer be called The San Francisco 49ers is just ignorant.
The Rams kept their home name as "Los Angeles," even when they played in Anaheim (which is just as far away). Also, the Jets and Giants are still branded as "New York," even though they now play in New Jersey.
@@robertlindey2538 Hmmm....Seriously? Were those teams located 2 Counties away, & 50 miles away from the namesake city the team is named after??? Were any of those teams located 3 blocks from city limits of the 3rd largest county in California...San Jose? That be like the SJ Sharks moving to the Cow Place on the boarder of SF, & STILL calling themselves the San Jose Sharks. I'm tired of my city's name being Pimped Out for Santa Clara/San Jose. All because SF is more famous that San Jose. Change the name to San Jose, for gawds sakes!
@@hadlee189 Actually, the Sharks DID play their first two seasons in the Cow Palace while their SJ arena was being constructed. I realize that their fans knew it was temporary. Were most people attending those games from the South Bay and willing to drive the extra distance for those two seasons? There were two minor league hockey teams that played in the Cow Palace, but neither team lasted very long.
The MLB Angels rebranded from Anaheim to LA, because many So Cal baseball followers may have seen them as only representing Orange County. The name change may have been an attempt to compete with Dodger and Padre fans throughout the rest of So Cal. Did this move accomplish that objective? I don't know. A snarky compromise might be "the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara." This is in response to "the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim."
@@robertlindey2538 U are correct, but I believe they all knew the SJ Sharks were not a permanent thing at the time. But the 49ers in San Jose is a permanent thing. Remember there is a huge fan base up north also. That lives in Stockton, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Marin County. & SF. SF was more centrally located for everybody.
@@hadlee189 Heck. The 49ers also have strong fan bases in Southern Oregon and NW Nevada. They even had a decent fan base in Southern California when the NFL was vacant in LA.
