It’s Complicated - 3D Printed Triple-Axis Tourbillon Mechanical Clock

  • STL file is available at Myminifactory: www.myminifactory.com/object/...
The triple-axis tourbillon is considered to be one of the pinnacles of watchmaking technical challenges. Not only are they extremely rare, but they are also very expensive, costing well beyond $300,000, and can only be found in luxury high end watches such as the Girard-Perregaux Tri-Axial, Jaeger Le-Coultre Gyro Tourbillons, Cabestan, and Harry Winston to name a few.
Due to limitations of FDM 3D printing accuracy, this project intended to be more of a mechanical sculpture instead of an accurate time telling device to understand the construction of the intricate mechanisms.
Assembly PDF Guide can also be downloaded in the link below for more details on the project:

ya idk you see something pretty. I see a rudegoldburg duel spring time piece. with a bunch a random flash on it. and at 300,000. seems super over priced. and un necessary. like it still has to be wound. and there are way cooler rube goldberg machines out there... this is kinda basic when compared to them... th-cam.com/video/mTjJzF_Oaow/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=PurdueUniversity....

I'm extremely impressed with the thoroughness of the design, the instructions, and accommodations for real life deviations of 3D printers. The amount of time it must have taken to fine tune everything was obviously substantial. Thanks for all your hard work! I look forward to seeing mine work.
I've made it a point to only print my own designs for the 16 months I've owned my 3D printer. This is the first 3D printed project that jumped out at me as something I needed to build.

Hey Kyle, Im a fan of your channel! Hoping to see more videos on your channel. No I did not go to any watchmaking school but I'm a mechanical engineer by education. It's almost entirely experimental and a lot of time spent watching triple axis tourbillon videos on youtube, similar to how Adam Wrigley did it.

@@mechanistic3d I can see why you did so. The movement is elegant and mesmerizing. It has caused me to want to know the history behind it as well as who crafted the first known. My focus is robotics at this point and I have to say this is an incredible implementation of mechanical robotics to say the least. The mind that first conceived this is just phenomenal. Watchmaking is just an incredible art. I will be eagerly joining in and taking part of the MyMiniFactory launch. Thanks so much for the work and putting it out there!
