    If you want to take the roadside stand to the next level, one of the things you can look at is the devices that they use at the large box, stores to dispense propane, 5 gallon containers, electronic, pay, and cash, all electronic and automatic

    Joe, I recently viewed the "Home Town Acres" recent video, where Adam asked your advice, about how to set up his wood yard with the potential of starting his own firewood business.
    The knowledge you demonstrated was impressive, and caused me to put out the following comment on the Home Town Acres recent video:
    -----------------------------------------
    "Listen to this dude Rufas (I mean Joe) he knows what he is talking about".
    - - -(Quote from Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure)
    Well Adam, there you have it! Joe is such a "knock out punch"! He is a "wood yard" equivalent to your "EXCELLENT" neighbor (another reference to Bill & Ted) Doug.
    What Joe (Ohio Wood Burner) brings to the table, is a cost effective, automated, and "no back busting", intelligent way of processing and selling firewood. He's got the AXIS for the big logs, an excellent JAPA 365 for the smaller stuff, a tractor for loading the live deck, a couple of new or decent dumping trailers, and a Super Splitter for resplits, without breaking the bank!
    He's also not afraid to evaluate other automated options to reduce the # of touches of the wood, to reduce manual loading and unloading of one's dump trailer. He is also handy with a camera!
    I subscribe and watch your channel because you have "most of the toys" to make the next step in your firewood proposition, and have creativity, and I see a future for you and yours.
    I believe you know, viewers are going to be offering suggestions after watching "this video". Dont get upset with them, they like and appreciate you, and want you to succeed! KEEP AN EYE ON THAT DOUG GUY! He looks kinda shifty!

    I knew the second I saw the stand that you were at Adams'. Funny how a person is known by their firewood stand!
    Adam: You need to put the cash box (& sign) on the driveway side, so ppl dodn't have to 'search' for it. I can't believe you only had this property for only 4 yrs; you've done SO MUCH!
    Joe: You should drop past my place sometime (5 miles from Ellwood City). I've taken 'a roadside stand' to a whole different level - an outside firewood store.
    Oh! and one thing you forgot to do while at Adams'; - "HEY DOUG"!!
    Absolute fun video to watch

    Good Morning Joe and Adam, it’s a great idea for making extra money using a road side stand for the individual home owner. Making it profitable enough as a business model it will be interesting to see how you figure that out. It does have more costs and challenges involved. Joe, you mentioned that firewood is a commodity and I agree with you on that and with the costs of things going up. Especially fuel prices which is a big driving factor on other product costs. Determine a sale price for the firewood that will attract customers and also be profitable will be a challenge in itself. Adam you need to increase your firewood prices at the stand so you can cover your costs of fuelling your tractor and maintaining your equipment as well. Have a great day!

    Great video Joe and Adam. You guys got me thinking on another front, living close to the city, I see a lot of people getting into the out door pizza ovens and smokers let alone fire rings/pits. Now, Joe you might see where I am going here. A nice clean bundle (free or dirt, crumbs, etc.) also is a key element to a good presentation along with what Adam mentioned with the wood color. Think like a customer with all aspects. A nice good looking bundle or rack of wood means the seller was thinking about this wood going in the customers car, the color looks good, and the wood should be properly seasoned so it is ready to burn. A side note would be hitting a niche market of good smoker woods, if you can get it, and advertise that you have it in a road side stand or at a location. Just a thought, I get most people just want fire pit wood but what about a small rack of bundles for smoker/cooking woods or even stock jus that wood if that is possible for you as the seller? Just a random thought but I could see Joe possibly or anyone who has access/ability to do this.

      @ohiowoodburner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great post bud. I think a crucial part of value added firewood is that it is clean and without mud, bugs, mushrooms etc. Hand loading these stands is also an extra step to clean the wood and bang the crumbs off!

    This isn’t a bad idea but another idea I like is trying to sell your firewood at some sort of free standing independent shop of some kind that already has a staff that can handle the transaction. Ir might be a repair shop, bait shop, rural grocery store, etc. A buddy of mine worked for a small town, independent hardware store and was able to sell his firewood through them. The store may get a cut but you probably generate more sales and have less theft going on. Just a thought.

    Great video Joe. Good to hear others views on how to retail their product. I was a bit surprised that you didn't talk about the $5 bundles. Do they sell fast? Faster than the $20 bins? Would be good to hear how he does with them. Cheers.

    Is it better to start off with just bundles and a small stand or make a larger stand to make a rack of wood available. Was also thinking of adding contact info if someone wanted more than a bundle.....

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you sell what can bring you the biggest return. I also think if you are selling bundles to people you should want to keep it at that level. You can make much more money selling bundles than bulk.

    Is a campfire stick longer than a fireplace stick?

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Felix. The standard length of firewood is 16" . The "cord" accurate measurement is based on a 16" stick and most fireplaces and stoves are set up on that length. Camp fire wood, of course, can be any length being it is in an outdoor pit. Still if you are finicky on how much you are paying you would want to see a 16" or close stick.

      The 0.75 USD-stick seemed to be that long in your hand what is the reason I asked.
      I am cultivating flowers and let the people cut them directly on the fields. A Self-Service fire wood stand would be easy to be added to the fields. But during summer time it will be more campfire wood.
