Thanks so much, Aaron. For anyone looking to pick one of these up, we are trying to drop small batches of these every single week as we complete them. Please join our mailing list to receive exact details on these drops!
Aaron, I'm so happy you helped out with this knife. It really improved the product, and I think your brothers response is a testament to that. We sold out of our inventory, but we have more on the way very soon!
I’ve had mine for about 6 weeks and using it daily. This is a great knife. Easy to sharping. Very tough. The Richlite scales are very comfy and temperature neutral meaning the handle won’t get cold. It’s been around 40 degrees in Alaska where I live. The price point is spectacular. A custom knife for less than 2 bills with fantastic kydex, handle and steel with 62-63 Rockwell. I’ve experienced no chipping with chopping. I highly recommend this knife!
First non bot comment lol. But seriously GT respect to you because you guided to me to buy my first “survival” knife in the gerber strong arm years ago, which also started me down the whole survival and self reliance path so, thanks.
Hey! I got in on the first run of these. I loved my Overland so much I stayed on the Schwarz email list. Happened to be in the market for a camp knife when these came out. It hasn't seen any hard use yet since I haven't been able to get out but my first impressions are very positive.
Congratulations on the collaboration with TJ! I just had to pick one up, this will be the second knife I’ve bought from him. Looking forward to having this knife in hand and testing it out myself.
Because you were involved in the design of this, and because it's A2, I ordered it. Green and black is sold out. I got the coyote and black, which is what I would have gotten anyway. Great project! Thanks, and congrats on the colab!
Comment from an old dealer who will never be camping again. Yes, you have a winner. The first thing that I did, before your brother's comment, was to look at how broad the blade was. I said to myself, why is the blade so broad? Then it struck me. The broadness of the blade was consistent with the handle and when slicing, it added weight and you simply wouldn't have to make repeated cuts because the blade was narrow. Then your brother essentially indicated the same thing in his comments.
I been looking into this one for about 2 weeks. So glad you dropped the video. You sold me on it. I already own the Overland and it's great. Super happy to check this one out. Great video!
In the past black jack knives and bark river used and still do use A2 I have used A2 for years if heated correctly and the proper profile/grind A2 is a great steel
I am going to add this to my list. I recently bought 4 fixed blades to add to my collection. So can't afford any more right now. Looks like an excellent knife. You make great videos with great information. Saved me from buying a few knives that I realized I wouldn't like. But also showed a few that are must haves. I check out your videos on knives before I buy them. Thanks and keep up the great work.
I can’t believe with all the knives that have been through your hands this is the first A2 knife you’ve had. It’s nice to see more of it available. A2 in my opinion is head and shoulders above 1095, just as easily sharpened but better performance. Better still if you regularly strop A2 you rarely need to sharpen it. The downside to me is I dislike coatings on blades. I’ve never seen a blade with natural patina that looks bad over time, coatings mostly wear and don’t stand the test of time.
Looks awesome! Just wish it offered uncoated. A2 isn’t that rust prone in my experience, far better than 1095. About like 3V in stainless-ness, no need for coating.
Looks like an excellent knife. A2 is a good steel and the Cerakote will help with corrosion resistance, and I'm an absolute fan of Richlite. I like the depth of the blade, which allows a fine slicing edge even with a 5/32 thickness. My question to you is this: which would you personally take given a choice between the Lost Trail 5 and the LionSteel T5 (or T5B)?
Thank u for this. I ordered one right after this video. I hav used it for everything since I got it and I luv it. The handle, the blade, the sheath is grt. One of my favorite Camp knives to USE constantly. Even in the kitchen, the blade & handle works grt. For rocking the blade to slice vegetables works well. Not a dedicated chopper or chefs knife but Jack of all trade. I have really enjoyed using it. Thx
Awesome review! I have been following this knife for a while and knew I wanted one since I seen it! This is in my opinion the perfect camp knife and one of my favorite knives I’ve tested, definitely going to be one of the knives of the year
Excellent looking piece! About time you’ve had a hand in designing a blade aaron! On A2 it’s a great working steel, however it comes with a major caveat. It is by far the most prone to rust steel i have ever used. A good coating or a patina is mandatory. (Even then it may not be enough). I had a buddy who has a blackheart (i think) knife in a2 and it got rusty after a week in a shed in a fairly dry mountain summer. No deep structural damage but a lot of surface damage. (Think back to your cold steel trail knife in o1). This knife is definitely on my list! Especially at that price and quality!
Very happy with mine the past few weeks. Nate was correct, feels like more sweep than it has, a refreshing design to see. Looking forward to some new handle colorways and steel choices.
Best video you’ve ever made! It was awesome incorporating your brother as well! you packed so much awesome information into the length of the video. Much appreciated! This knife is sick for sure!
Congrats on your 1st collaboration. I had to order one. It would be grt to see you take it out & use it hiking or camping. Looking forward to see how performs
while a lot of people look for a slimmer side profile, there are a lot of tasks that a tall blade like that can really increase it's utility. I really like the overall looks of this one. it is out of my budget range, but I can see where this would be a very good option.
I always have to talk myself out of another knife after watching your reviews 😳 but this time i may have to place an order. Knives just like guns piss me off. Lol. I just can’t ever decide which to carry.
Wow I'm shocked at the HRC. Most fixed, outdoor focused knives tend to lower the HRC level just to hit reasonable toughness targets but seeing this run harder is pretty awesome.
Howdy everyone! Well I have bought many knives that you recommended however this time I beat your recommendation by a month or so…mainly cause I buy everything Kevin puts out immediately! His designs(and collabs) are always spot on! 🤠🇨🇱
Passed on my TOPS Tex Creek, Operator 7, Lite Traveler and Desert Nomad. Loved those knives but this/your design seems to bring qualities of those 4 into a single piece, needed to downsize the collection. A great tip for protecting blades that aren’t stainless is food grade beeswax, also Frog Lube which i heard about from Wingman 115. Both of these wont go rancid a limit oxidization and pitting, also completely non toxic as far as using with any food.
The SE five is way heavier and thicker so obviously biting and chopping. It will do better. But for a 5 inch knife I prefer a thinner, lighter blade and this is tough to handle that type of abuse. So I will take the LT5 over the Esee five any day of the week.
Congratulations Aaron on your first collaboration!!! 🙌🏼 Imho you are the best knife/survival gear reviewer on TH-cam ever and I mean that 👊🏼 I just used the promo code to buy one in OD Green and it’s on the way. I hope the cerakote lasts but if not I’ll do a forced patina 💪🏼 thanks brother 🙏🏼
Will it make a spark with a rock? Awesome knife, good to see designers get input from reviewers with the experience to help, like yourself. Good review, thanks!
A2 steel is honestly really nice to sharpen. It’s easy to get a crisp burr and then remove it. That being said, that’s the biggest detriment in my case. I ruined the edge on my Resolute Mk.III from Gough Custom and I haven’t been able to fix it since
A2 is a tool steel...not a 'carbon' steel, it's got 5 times more chromium and as much manganese and molybdenum as it does carbon. Bark River Knives also makes lovely convex ground knives in A2 and 3V apart from stainless steel options. Richlite is Paper Micarta.
Yes, I may have missed spoken slightly. It’s still has enough carbon in it. It can rust pretty easy if not taken care of but definitely better than 1095. As an example, D2 steel is more rust resistant than A2.
Excellent video! I definitely would love to have this knife. The blade profile looks like what I want. And the handle is rounded! I'm curious about the feel though?
One day in and their out of stock, looks like a great knife! Hope the 10% stays around till i and others have a chance to use when it comes back in stock.
@@davidsizemore9640 yeah if they’re out of stock check back in a week he is working real hard to make sure they are in stock almost constantly. I will also also make a post when they are back in stock.
Some knives are like cars that had early aero designs of the '50s-'60s that looked sleek with fins and flowing lines, but weren't actually aerodynamic (gas station knives). Other knives are like cars which have extensive computer modeling and wind tunnel design optimization (Tesla/C8 Corvette). This is the latter
The A2 seems impressive, but it's still what's holding me back from buying it because I'm worried they would release an uncoated Magnacut.. and that would be exactly what I'm looking for.

A2 steel iy one of my favorite non-powdered tool steels. A2 has a good toughness and edge retention, is simply a good steel.
Love this design. Nice work!
Very much like the Survive Knives GSO 5.0 that is my favorite sheath camp knife. Although I like 3V, A2 steel is nice to see on this one.

Overall nice. However, between the weight with sheath (nearly a pound) and the price tag ($195), there are better choices for a simple "camp" knife.
What knives would you suggest instead of this one?
