    My question is. Can I actually live off rice and beans? I’ll eat it for a year if it keeps me alive but will it?

      Add an egg for a bit of protein+cholesterol.

    • @ggwoman
      @ggwoman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grains + legumes = complete protein. Add a salad or steamed/stir fried vegetables and fruits in season every day, egg, poultry or fish and you will have great complete, healthy nutrition at the least expense. Cooking simply from scratch is key.

    Dave didn't say tithe? I've been having an internal battle in preparation for July's budget.

    • @alladreamwedreamed
      @alladreamwedreamed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tithing doesn't come into the picture when you're in this much money trouble. They're in as much debt as they earn in annual salaries, and they've had bad money habits for decades. They need to get caught up first, it would be irresponsible to do anything but pay down those bills.

    I guess this makes sense being 5 years old, the amount taken out of paychecks to make the net take home so low is not that far off of my household's paychecks, and we dont get huge refunds, im lucky to get one, hah, but only because of my son now, but 5 years ago it wasn't that bad so i get it. Now though, ughm it's ridiculous, the amount that is taken out. None of it for insurance nor 401k either. State of hawaii sucks. I officially think weve been priced out of paradise in every area now. I was raised and had my kid here, cant imagine moving, heck the dang flights are a fortune to begin with, but might have to. Hmmm.

    $800 for food for 2? I can eat like a king on that budget especially if I actually listened to Dave on not eating out.

      That's about how much I wasted monthly on McDonald's in the past from ages 18-25. I'm 26 with much better habits now thankfully.

      Add these costs to 'grocery' shopping cart, you get closer to $800 for two.
      Household cleaners, paper products, pet items, OTC health, hygiene & personal care (sunscreen = $$$.)

    • @patriciaikeda2608

      I spend 800 a month in food, but we eat really healthy. Most of that cost is buying bulk meats when they are on sale and freeze them, but 200 a week for healthy fresh meals at home worth every penny

    • @ThePeterDislikeShow
      @ThePeterDislikeShow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@patriciaikeda2608 That's good. I see so many people who "can't afford to eat healthy" but they sure have a lot of money to spend at McDonalds and Starbucks. Isn't it funny how quickly they can adjust the excuse? But then I don't have time to cook!

    This type of scenario is where the Ramsey Baby Steps can really help someone. I disagree with a lot of the Ramsey stuff, but he was spot on here. The main thing here was this caller's attitude, he was sick and tired of being behind the 8-ball.
