    About This Video:
Have you been diagnosed with Primary open angle glaucoma? Well if you are researching the treatment of glaucoma or how to treat glaucoma then this video is for you. There are many different glaucoma medications out there and with these different drugs for glaucoma you and your doctor can reduce eye pressure and hopefully delay vision loss. Treating glaucoma can be very difficult and there is no glaucoma cure, but with glaucoma drops such as latanoprost eye drops eye doctors are able to help control eye pressure. In this video I review latanoprost, a glaucoma medication, including latanoprost side effects. I also review a few glaucoma surgeries.

@@BrokebackBob narrow angle is a different cookie to crack. Most people with narrow angle require a laser treatment called an LPI to create an extra drainage Avenue through the iris to prevent angle closure and high eye pressures. Oftentimes early cataract surgery can solve this issue as well.

When I was first suspected with glaucoma, I feel my life is changed. It was a very down time. I then went to see specialist and was told having high risk but not yet develop it. I hope, really hope, there will be a way to reverse and regenerate the dead optic nerve. I hope everyone with such disease, can be treated efficiently.

I have been offered laser, and am due for my next appointment, where I will decide what to do. Although the diagnosis has changed my life, I am glad that there are treatment that can save my vision.

Excellent presentation. I recommend this video as the first introduction to Glaucoma treatment options. I have used prostaglandins for many years. Each time I change eye doctors they put me on different drops. I am now on Rhopresa and Lumigan drops at night. They do lower my pressure. Now a new eye doctor is pushing SLT treatment. In the past I had tried Latanoprost which did not work though it was cheaper than Lumigan. Also tried Alphagan 3 times a day with Lumigan and it worked but was too difficult to manage the eye drop routine.

In late March I had a marathon 7 hours where the surgeon did EVERYTHING in BOTH eyes:
    1. Cataract surgery--regular lenses.
    2. Small stents for glaucoma in both eyes.
    3. Removed mesh work in both eyes.
    4. A big drainage pipe in the right eye.
I can see all the way to China now. No more bifocal progression lenses, no more correction lenses. I got 20/20 now, where I used to have 20/950. No more eyeglasses!
I got pressure down to 11 and 10 in my eyes. I am still on post-op drops, but it is amazing to have normal eye pressure as that will arrest the deterioration of my optic nerve dramatically whether I have to continue some drops--or not.
I have never had any surgery before of any kind. This is a phenomenal result, and I am very grateful.

Western medication forever can't effectively treat and reverse high tension
POAG (primary open angle glaucoma). Why?
The culprits of high tension POAG are:
      a. oxidative stress, free radicals
      b. AGEs (advanced glycation endproducts)
      c. lipofuscin
God's mercy nano-grade eye drops should be the last-ditch treatment for
      high tensiion POAG.

In college you have to work hard and do your work and come to class so you don't fail. Just a comment about brimonidine. Using these eye drops caused a decrease in my blood pressure of about 30 numbers(?). For instance,if my bp was 150/76 the medication would lower it to 120/60 (which was great - but if my bp was 120/68 the medication would lower it to 90/56). Unfortunately, it wasn't effective in lowering my IOP and medication had to be changed. Dr. is still working on trying to find an effective med. The "expensive one" is the next option. And I nearly fell off my chair when $400 was mentioned, Working with my insurance co. for an affordable price. Thanks for the information which you give us. It's most helpful.

I have open angle glaucoma ROP ( Retinopathy of prematurity )
I got the OAG due to sudden eye pressure rising four times
    First 94
    seconded 66
    Third 64
    Fourth 55
Fun fact the eye pressure that is safe is 20 or below
Anything above that means it’s going up slowly

I am 63 with open angle glaucome. Right eye controlled with drops and left one controlled with a in-focus microshunt, which provoked a bleb that causes me pain and gave an ugly appearance and deformation of a eyeball. Even though the microsunt is working well, I am not happy with my aspect now.

Has a trabeculectomy last month on one eye. Recovery is way more difficult then I thought. Dealing the stitches scratch the eye lid drove me nuts for two weeks. My next follow up is in a few day. Drops and laser was not doing the trick. Pressure dropped from mid/high 20’s to 4-5. Still healing. Keep up the vids. Would like to see one on recovery’s after surgeries and what to expect.

Hey thanks for sharing. I hope things continue to improve for you and the pressure stays low. I have been hoping to make more videos about surgeries too, will probably start with more common ones like cataract surgery. But hopefully in time I will have ones about more complex surgeries such as a trab. I wish you the best and thanks for watching.

@@joanneramsey7723 ended up getting a Trabeculectomy done in both eyes. Right eye first and left eye 2 months later. You can’t even tell I had the surgery. My eye pressure before surgery were both in the low 30’s. Because of Covid and not knowing if and when the surgeon would get an other chance they did them both close to each other in time. But I had massive multiple vision. Example when I looked up at the moon I would see like 9 of them. The way my Dr. describe it to me is a balloon over inflated and now is under inflated and the back of my eye was all crinkled making me see multiple. Been about 2.5 years since both eyes were done. Currently eye pressures at sitting at 9 and 8. I can still see, but one eye is not the best. However, my eye dr said if I did not get the surgery when I did they would have pulled my drivers license. I can work and still drive just took about a year to feel comfortable enough to get back to normal.

Treatments I have heard of? Well I have had a Lazer treatment on both of my eyes that didn't drop the pressure enough. I was put on Zioptan and it did well for about 9 months. I was put on Rocklatan and had a horrible reaction, really itchy eyes. So I am now back on Zioptan and timolol. Hopefully when I go back for a pressure check this is working.

I deeply resent that I wasn't warned about the loss of periorbital loss of fat with prostaglandin eyedrops. My eyes are all sunken in, and I look like a zombie. And watch out for the eyedrops with preservatives. They'll cause corneal erosion.

In the past 7 months I am using timolol, but I still see rainbow halos in the light, for almost 1 yr now, what is a posible cause of that? Hi Doctor, I had a laser treatment on my eye for diabetes and two days later when I woke up I wasn't able to see for about 10 min and my eye started to feel irritated and had headaches, so I called retnal specialist and went to see him the next day and said my pressure was super high 45 (I have never heard or new anything about pressure in the eyes) and after a month of trying to lower the pressure with drops and wasn't able to. he referred me to a glaucoma specialist which tgey had to perform a emergency surgery..and thank to the doctor that did the first laser now my life changed, haven't been able to drive or see well and soon I will need another surgery because my body is rejecting the valve and my pressure is way high again😭😭

My glaucoma started when I had a myelogram that went sour before a proposed 2nd back surgery. Headaches for 20 years. To me, a direct correlation, but I could not find any information on this situation.
Do you have any information on this, probably infrequent occurance? The headaches were in the back of my head where I believe the optic nerve also has presence.
Been using latanoprost (at night) and timolol (2x/day) for years but my pressure still hovers in 18-20 range.
My ophthalmologist just retired. Looking for a new doc in the Tom's River, NJ area.
    Your vid was very informative.

Unfortunately we have experienced abusive treatment at our local hospital eye care clinic as post op. treatment for Trabeculoctomy. This feels dehumanising and leaves us with no faith in the public health care system in Australia. Ironic as stress is also a cause for high eye pressure and high blood pressure in general.

In England we don't pay for treatment but saying that there is a long wait to be seen. My optician referred me to the eye hospital because the pressure was high in my left eye and it took a year before they could see me I know these are difficult times but by the time I was seen the pressure in that eye was 36 and damage had been done although my sight is still good in that eye I wish I had gone to a private hospital and payed and probably would have been seen in a week or 2. I am now on Latanoprost
