    I am in my early twenties and was having ocular migraines. I went in to see my eye doctor for those (just because I read on the internet that it's a good idea to get them checked out lol), and walked out with a diagnosis of glaucoma! I had no idea I had it at all!! I didn't even know anything about it until a few days ago. In fact, if it wasn't for the migraines and the random internet info, I may not have gone in for an eye exam at all (I just never really got my eyes checked much before now)... so lesson learned! Regular eye exams are so important no matter what age you are. We caught mine early and can start treatment now, but there's already been a lot of damage done. Anyway go get your eyes checked! You just never know!
    Thanks for this video! I learned a lot! I have open angle glaucoma according to my doc :/

    I had glaucoma while still in development in my mom’s uterus. Completely lost vision in one eye and have significant damage in the other, had to do many surgeries. To this day I can’t take certain medications because it makes the glaucoma come back. It really is a terrible thing to go through and people shouldn’t ignore the symptoms. Not having depth perception sucks.

    About 2years ago, my optician suspected I had Glaucoma and I did my vision field tests and my results came out bad for my right eye, and I was put on Timolol. Did another visual field test a few months ago and results came out much much better. I’m just confused because I was told once your vision is damaged it can’t get any better. Was wondering if I really do have glaucoma or I was just wrongly diagnosed.
    Another thing is that My eye pressure is always normal

I also have to see a glaucoma doctor for the rest of my life and take really good care of my eyes.

      Doctor Eye Health Thanks for getting in touch! It’s gone well, however the irritation from the surgery does get a bit much at times. Just over a week now since the surgery. On the steroid drops hourly and back to teaching my lovely senior citizens. As several of them have had the op they understand what I am going through. All my friends joke that I have Rage Virus/Zombie Eye (you can see more on that on my channel), so I’m keeping the sunglasses on, particularly as the iris is not closing properly yet. I know it will take some time to heal so I just have to take it day by day.

    I wish more doctors would give appropriate information on glaucoma to their patients... At least here in my country I feel like they don't because a lot of glaucoma patients come to our store for new glasses and their doctor apparently never told them about how severe their vision loss actually is... It is always sad when he have to break it to them that we can't do anything about it with new glasses and even magnifying glasses may not do that much anymore...

    I was diagnosed with glaucoma at age 17. No one even knew I had poor vision until I was 6 and it took 11 years before anyone ever tested me for glaucoma. Being a dumb teenager I thought the doctor was stupid because "glaucoma is something only old people get" so I didn't use the eyedrops like I was supposed to. Glaucoma is nowhere to be found on either side of my family. Fast forward to 2005, I was 42 years old and my first appointment with a new eye doctor, he checked my eyes and then asked me if my teeth were capped. I said no and he said let me see and after a quick look he said just as I thought. At that point I thought the man was a loon but he told me I have Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome and he said it was rare and not a lot was known about it but that it occurs before birth. Funny it took 42 years for anyone to find that! Nowadays if I happen to be at an eye doctor appointment and med students are there I'm asked by my doctor if it is ok for them to come in and take a look, he said it's something they will not likely see in their careers. Of course I always agree to be a guinea pig for them! I'm not so sure it's as rare as once believed though, Have you seen many cases of it?

    I was born with type one diabetes and 29 years old now and my blood sugars have never been able to be under good control in fact they are always out of control and running extremely high constantly and now I am experiencing vision loss such as my left eye is like looking through fog in both eyes in general are blurry but Eye Doctor said my iris is letting out a lot of pigment that’s why it’s like looking through fog

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. Pigment dispersion syndrome is when pigment from the iris gets let go. But this really doenst have to do with diabetes. But diabetes can cause swelling of the lens which can make the vision blurred and diabetes can also cause retinal issues which can blur vision.

      @@DoctorEyeHealth wow he didn’t say anything like this he also g ave me eye drops that is supposed to help hopefully stop the lense from sticking or something like that but the stopes will keep my pupils dilated until my next appointment when I’m supposed to see the high up eye doc I guess but he couldn’t even give me a new script because he said there’s so much pigment that he can’t even see around it my husband said this doctor seemed like a newb and that probably why has scheduled me to see the higher up doc and thank you so much for replying I hope you can understand what I am typing I really can’t see especially now within the last two days my left eye is pretty much blurred out and looks like I’m looking through fog along with being blurry so yeah it’s really hard to do things right now also the issues that I’m with my eyes honestly can it be fixed?

    What about narrow angles, doctor? I still have normal pressure but was just diagnosed with narrow angles. The doctor suggested laser surgery to put a hole in my iris to prevent angle closure glaucoma. But I heard that scar tissue from the surgery can make it where u need to get it done again and again. And one must use steroid drops for 5 days 4x a day after the surgery and steroid drops themselves can bring on glaucoma. So, does the risk of possible angle closure glaucoma make it prudent to get this preventative laser surgery?

      Some people do seem to be more sensitive to dilation drops, however there are different concentrations of those drops and if you let your doctor know beforehand they may be able to use a diluted form that wont last as long. FYI: we do have drops that last over a full week!...if you wanted 😜

However recently when the doc used the ganiscope (i think so, the round thing that is put into my eye) on my left eye, i now felt slight pain on my eyeball and slight itch in my eye whites. So shd i still continue my laser which is another 3 days. Am i now having an eye infection from the ganoscopy? Please advise me. Thank ye.

      Glad to hear your doctor is being very thorough and it sounds like you understand what is going on. Gonioscopy with a gonio lens is used to better assess the drainage structures inside the eye and can suction onto the eye and cause some irritation and redness. If your having issues it is best to consult your eye doctor and their clinic because they can get your the medication to help. Best to continue with the laser as planned by you and your doctor. I wish you the best!

    Hello Doc.. You're awesome.. 1 Qs. I suffered a blunt trauma and corneal abrasion after I got hit by an exercise resistance tube/band on both my eyes about 8 months ago.. Now I feel like I need spectacles to focus..
    So, can a blunt trauma also lead to Glaucoma ??

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question and sorry to hear about the accident. But yes, trauma to the eye can cause glaucoma. Trauma can cause a tear in the iris/angle which we call an angle recession. This can cause issues with drainage and change in eye pressure. Have you seen your local eye doc lately?

      @@DoctorEyeHealth Hello awesome DOC.. NO.. I haven't seen..
      Here's the reason...
      Firstly, I know it's a bit longish.. but I'm just hoping you'll look into this.. cuz you're awesome.. : )
      THAT DAY...
      I was rushed to an anterior segment specialist nearby the GYM where I got hit badly.. He told me the band snapped so fast that I didn't have time to blink..
      About 20 mins post trauma.. My lids were all swollen & I couldn't open them.. so he put some anesthetic drops and forced open my eyes and looked through his equipment (IDK slit lamp maybe)..
      Then he did an immediate fluoroscene test and impact wounds were visible on both corneas..
      He put me on band aid for 24 hours on both eyes and scheduled for a check up the next day..
      Next day, 24 hours post injury.. band aid was removed, blurry/foggy vision with halos around light sources observed..
      But I was still happy that I hadn't turned blind..
      He guaranteed that my vision will get back to normal within 2 weeks..
      Also advised me to stay out of the GYM for at least a month..
      He put me on the following:
      1. NEVANAC/Nepafenac (NSAID) drops [BUT WHY THIS? ]
      2. A lubricant drops
      3. Vitamin A eye gel
      4. Multivitamin+lutein+zeaxanthin tabs
      My vision did get better each day, symptoms subsided and was almost back to normal in about 2 weeks..
      HOWEVER, after about a month on the day of the check up (3rd visit) they sent me on the optometrist room and did the regular Alphabet Wall visual acuity test which I did very well... I remember the optometrist telling me "Even though your vision is good now, complications can show up down the road for such eye injuries"...
      Right after the test, they continuously put Tropicamide drops for about 20 mins to dilate my pupils and did a retinal exam with bright light..
      SINCE THAT 3rd VISIT (RETINAL EXAM).. I am suspecting my vision isn't the same as before...
      I felt DRY SCRATCHY EYES.. Stopped using NEVANAC drops.. and lubricating drops too..
      I felt like the more I used the lubricating drops the more it was making me dependent on it.. as opposed to naturally producing my own tears for lubing..
      SO...
      Could the non steroidal NEVANAC/Nepafenac (NSAID) drops have gradually caused blockage.. which they made me use for about a month post injury ??
      OR
      Could the overdosing of Tropicamide drops while trying to dilate my pupils have done some damage to my previously injured anterior part ??
      I trusted the doc and had used the NEVANAC/Nepafenac (non steroidal drops) without reading the leaflet which it came with.. later I found it's used for numbing pain post cataract surgery.. SIDE EFFECTS printed on the leaflet were as may cause slowing down of corneal healing, corneal thinning & perforations.. which is exactly against the nature of treating a wounded cornea.. So why PRESCRIBE that drops ??
      NOW.. I'm feeling skeptical of using prescription drops & frustrated and regretful too..
      I just hope you can clear some of my doubts & this uneasy feeling..
      GOD BLESS :D

    I’ve been scared all my life from this, I have open angle glaucoma in one eye, I used to have two but now I have one cataract in one eye, and I have uveitis. I started developing this around age 4 and now I’m 13 and my vision is pretty bad even in my left eye (bad eye). I just wish I can live normal and not in fear anymore which is why sometimes I feel like killing myself because no one can help me.

    I'm at risk for narrow angle glaucoma. Thank you for explaining the symptoms. My eye doctor didn't explain them too well but he did stress that its a medical emergency. Is narrow angle glaucoma something that develops from normal aging? My aunt had cataracts in her early 50s, should I be concerned about that (I mean do they run in families?)? I have macular degeneration on my father's side. One grandparents with wet and the other with dry. What's the difference between the wet and dry M.D.?

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Amy, All very good questions. Some people do become higher risk of Narrow angles as they get older. That is because the lens inside the eye grows larger as we age and that can push the angle closed. Usually people who are farsighted are at a higher risk because their eyes are smaller.
      I plan to put out a whole series on AMD in the near future. in short, Wet AMD is when the retinal cells degenerate and new blood vessels leak inside the eye and Dry AMD is when there are no leaking blood vessels but the retinal cells still die off

    I am 62 years old and I recently had cataract surgery to resolve my Closed-Angle Glaucoma. I understand that it is inherited very strongly amongst siblings, in fact ten times higher. I have some half-siblings as well, much younger than me and wondered what the rate might be for them, so if necessary I can warn them. Our connection is my father who had no glaucoma in his family, my mother's mother had a form of glaucoma but I have been unable to establish whether it was the same as mine as it was too long ago and she is no longer alive. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this as I cannot find any information online. Thank you in advance.😊

    Very insightful. I went for my eye exam a week ago. Doc took a picture of each eye to view the optic nerve. All seemed in order. I asked for an IOP test at the end as I am only 24 but am interested in eye health. Left eye measured 19 mmgh and right eye measured 20 mmgh. I will go back in a month's time to see if it's still as high. Praying this is not the onset of glaucoma. I have visual snow so all my life blindness has been my biggest fear resulting in me being very sensitive and noticing changes very quick.

    Does topamax cause glaucoma and are you at an increased risk if you have high myopia?

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Topomax can cause a rare condition where the ciliary body will swell and cause increased eye pressure. This is very rare, but possible. Typically this happens when topomax is first started, if it ever happens. Yes, high myopia is associated with increase risk of glaucoma.

      @Jo M I just had glaucoma surgery. On both eyes. Same day. The surgeon removed the meshwork and inserted drainage tubes in both eyes. Then, because my right eye was much worse, she also put a big drainage pipe in that eye. Four procedures. And she also did cataract surgery in the same session, but that's another story.
      Bottom line is that my eye pressure is down to 11, and everything is looking great!

Trends are trends... and ring lights arn't even bad- you just arn't supped to use them in direct line with the lens... but it is a shame to see the lighting hijack the absolute fundamentals of the channel. I love your content... just PLEASE consider not following the trends, it diluted the brand.

    My BFF has low pressure glaucoma. I have narrow angle glaucoma from the WBC of my panuveitis gumming up the trabecular meshwork. My right is able to be treated with twice daily combigan. My left is another story. In July 2017, I had to have emergency surgery to have an Ahmed glaucoma shunt placed. My IOP was 64 when I saw my glaucoma specialist. I had been on 4 optical glaucoma drops and an oral (which I’m allergic to). They weren’t enough. All the symptoms you listed are what I experienced. If anyone wants to know how bad the pain was, I gladly allowed him to put a needle in my eye to release the fluid. Immediately, the pain went away, and I could see again. Unfortunately, steroid drops do increase my IOPs. Thankfully, with the shunt and Combigan, my IOPs are good. I’m having a uveitis flare right now. Yesterday, my rheumatologist told me I’m her special patient lol Thank you for these videos.

    Family history of Open Angle Glaucoma. I have been told since I was in my teens that I was at higher risk of developing glaucoma, that my option disk was enlarged with the edges looked normal. In the last 2 years my ocular pressures have been around 19 and 20. Do you know at what point do you start medication to decrease eye pressure.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Debashis! Thanks for sharing. There are a lot of factors involved when finally deciding to treat someone for glaucoma, much more than just pressure alone. However, typically when pressures remain upwords of 28mmHG on consistent visits then studies show damage to the nerve is inevitable. How often do you see your eye doctor for pressure checks and additional testing?

    Seriously , I am scared to death because of my severe glaucoma . I have been seeing Doctors for 35 years . I have lost sight in my right eye . and now the demon has crawled over to my one good eye and it's serious . My Dr. doesn't want to operate because of my age 89 and for the years I've had it . This is a terrible thing to say but I don't want to live anymore if I lose sight in my one good eye . I now this sounds negative , but I'm sure I'm not alone with my human feelings . I'm not a negative mam , I have tried to be good to people and I don't want to brag about how wonderful I am . I 've got friend's and I consider myself a good decent man , but I just pray to God to not let me go bling for the few years I've got left . I've made this too long already , so I'll close now except to say your doing a wonderful job with your eye info . your good to listen to because of your dynamic personality .
