    • @john8314
      @john8314 4 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Well, they should be more specific. The story, the characters, the dialogue, the writing, the environment... they're all phenomenal. But the gameplay is mediocre, the menu & interfaces are clumsy, the required chores & activities are monotonous, and the pacing is horrid. I can overlook most of these things... but mediocre gameplay... nope. That's a cardinal sin. This game is, at least partially, a 3rd person shooter. And when it has literally the worst 3rd person shooting mechanics of any shooter released in the last five years... OOF! Rockstar shit the bed with the shooting mechanics. Gameplay is still king, and the most important thing in any game, in my opinion. It's why PacMan, Super Mario, Galaga, Tetris, etc do not need stories, dialogue, etc. Because they have great gameplay, and that's all it takes to make a great game. Stories & characters can elevate a game, sure... but they can't compensate for mediocre gameplay. RDR2 will never be in my top 10, or even top 20 games, for this reason. I will ALWAYS see RDR2 as a bad shooting game first, and a great cinematic experience second.

    • @vladscarkovskis8845
      @vladscarkovskis8845 4 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      John how is the shooting bad in this game? The impact is great, the enviroments you are shooting in are beautiful and varied, tons of guns.
      The only thing that is bad about the shooting is how many people play the game. They just sit in 1 place and shoot everyone in the head.
      If you start using multiple guns, move around more it’s better. And even without that there is nothing wrong with the mechanic.

      spoonTUBE - СПУН youre lying to yourself or you never play third person shooters, it’s genuinely the worst third person shooter I have ever played. I got this free with my ps4 pro and deleted after the one hour mark, tried giving it another shot but it really is horrible to play. The gameplay is downright atrocious couldn’t care less how good a story is when gameplays that bad, would rather watch a movie. Gameplay always comes first and this games straight garbage, shame everything else about it seems good. Borderlands 3 has the worst story I’ve ever seen in a game yet I still play it and ignore it because of how good the gameplay and mechanics are

    I love the slower pace and the animations for virtually every little action the character does. For people that want fast paced gameplay, where they can speed through the story, there’s hundreds of games like that already but games like RDR2, where it makes you slow down to take in the world and atmosphere, are very rare to come by and this game does it better than any other.

    I have been playing RDR 2 since June this year and the game, for me, has been one of the most satisfying, emotionally driven and visually breathtaking gaming experiences in my gaming lifetime. While I can understand why someone may consider its "survival" elements annoying or tedious, for me, it only enhanced the game and my personal connection with Arthur and made him seem more real. Roger Clarke gave an amazing performance. Everything from the way he walks, coughs, little gestures when he is tired or the way his posture changes. Animations are one of the best, if not the best in gaming. Writing is perfection, however, Chapter 5, IMO, is extremely flawed in its presentation and direction. There are flaws, sure, however, they are miniscule in terms of a what an achievement RDR 2 is, which proves how much gaming as medium has evolved and expanded. It's a game that should be played, or at least give it a try, by every gamer. While not everyone will find enjoyment, since the game demands patience and reserve, however RDR 2 is a masterpiece and there is no doubt about that.

    12:30 glad the developers also agree with this. I also think that having multiple protagonists is a little unnecessary, and it's somehow it ruins the narrative. I faced this problem with GTA5. I couldn't properly attached with the characters and I somehow just didn't found the enjoyable narrative pace, like the previous GTA games. I hope they don't bring back this multiple protagonist concept in GTA6

      Frog Glen only because of GTA online tho. You’re also completely wrong about GTA games not having great story elements despite the humor. GTA San Andreas is considered by many to be one of the greatest games Rockstar ever made and it had a great story. GTA V doesn’t even compare to what they did with their previous games. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t up to par compared to other games they made you can’t just look at sales numbers either because that can be misleading. People bought GTA V because GTA was popular but just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s actually good.

    I think my biggest problem with this game is loadouts. The game tells you to select what you want on you only to either remove your guns as soon as you're off your horse or swapping one of your guns with the bolt action rifle (which I personally hate) and randomizing your revolver(s). I can't tell you how many times I set up my loadout only to realize I didn't have what I chose or anything at all, having to run a mile back to my horse to grab the things I *needed* IF the game allows you to. Sometimes it's even gotten me killed. It's really irritating. It wasn't a problem in online at first which was the only good thing I could really say about it but recently I've been having those issues in online when I've revisited it.

    While I don't personally feel that way with the Prequels, I personally like them, still, better than any Disney Star Wars movie, I do feel like that with Red Dead Redemption 2. In GTA V, the 3 dudes fought with each other over all sorts of alliances and rivalries but in the end were united by "the big one". On the other hand in RDR2 Dutch and the gang were close to each other already, but the insistence of pulling off one last "big one" and the subsequent alliances and enemies they made is what tore them apart and made them fight

    This is easily my favorite game ever. My biggest complaint is just the wasted space that is the New Austin territory in single player.
    That and the still rather clunky controls at times since they're so dependent on animations lining up. That's the last thing Rockstar needs to perfect. It won't be excusable in their next title.
    I'm never going to be big into the multiplayer design but I won't hold it against those who are. It just saddens me that it basically stopped their dedication to single player expansions.
    10/10 in my personal opinion still though. I played for 130 hours to see credits roll my first time around.

      @807D14M0ND5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a complaint but something I would have liked to see. More things akin to the treasure maps. That is: Things to do in the world without a waypoint or bold letter instructions.
      It's so satisfying when a goal (finding treasure) makes you come up with your own plan of action.
      Example: Treasure map showing a waterfall.
      That made me think about the world and it's rivers. Which of the rivers have waterfalls? What would be the best approach? Is it possible to go up north, find a canoe and row all the way down?
      Had the game told me flat out that was what I needed to do it wouldn't be nearly as fun.

      Ergo the likely reason to stuff it there is to be utilized online.
      Still doesn't mean I don't wish there was more to do there in the single player. It's a tease to get out west in your western game and not have much reason to explore that huge area of the map that R* bragged about being so large.

The mechanics in this game make speculation on GTA6 and future R* i.ps more interesting. R* has flaws as a developer but nobody can honestly say they've lost the plot, they consistently improve mechanics and explore new ways to make the experiences more immersive. Rockstar really nailed the attention to detail on this game. How the honor system affects the storyline, how cutscene dialogues will change based on what you have encountered prior to certain missions, what weapons you will have shown in the cutscene based on your current loadout (I gave Arthur a M1911 pistol as a sidearm and every cutscene will show him using that said pistol) how some npcs will respond to you based on your previous actions (and even your physical appearance!), how you can actually do a chaining conversation (you can ‘greet’ an npc, then get a unique and funny dialogue when you ‘antagonise’ them), post campaign certain npc encounters talking about Arthur, and this... hearing voices at old campsites (I went back to Clemens Point before completing the epilogue as John, but instead of hearing those memorable voices, I spotted an O Driscoll’s campsite there, which one stick of dynamite efficiently eradicated them) I never thought this was possible but this video really proved me even further. Truly a type of game you wouldn’t mind replaying the second time to study the lore of the gang and story even further and in-depth (and of course some of us missed playing as Arthur) if the first RDR was available on pc I would’ve continued John’s story till his death..
    Arthur Morgan is truly that memorable. Even after his death, I tried making John look like how I dressed up Arthur in my playthrough as a tribute (clothing, hairstyle, but somehow John already has that iconic look from the first game, that only a facial hair trim is enough, the rest untouched. And also I think it’s better to just leave John with his preset Cowboy Outfit). And furthermore, it just saddens to remember that memorable protagonist’s tragic death but it pleases me when John is able to use Arthur’s previous weapon loadout in the epilogue story. Dealing that final shot to Micah with Arthur’s Cattleman Revolver (I stuck with an M1911 pistol for my playthrough of Arthur)? Now that’s justice.. the way I see it at least.

      Theyre both insanely good games, its very subjective

  • @FraserSouris
    @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A few counterpoints:
    The Slowness-
    Nothing to do with patience, the problem here is that unlike in real life, you're not actively doing the action. You're waiting for your character to do the action. That's why in most games animation are not realistic but instead as fast as possible, so you don't end up waiting for your character which breaks immersion, it reminds you you're not the character. RDR2 broke that with seemingly zero understanding of why it's that way in video games the first place.
    Other aspects of the gameplay-
    I don't feel the survival aspects were that well implemented. You can ignore them and still succeed. Unlike say Breath of the Wild, the mechanics don't interact with each other. As a result, the gameplay feels the same as any other Rockstar game, especiially shooting

    • @FraserSouris

      >"I don't want to be the character, cause the character is already mostly defined, even if you have some freedom when it comes to certain decisions. It's not an rpg

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JC Denton Firstly, Just because what I state is an opinion nor is it shared by the majority any less reason to disregard it as being any less valid. Being Subjective doesn't devalue anything nor are your statements about that accomplishing anything.
      Secondly, Spare me all the praises of the game. I have heard them all.
      Thirdly, consider the following point: in 5-10 years when RDR2's graphics and animations become outdated and all it has to go on is its gameplay, will the game be as well loved? It's already happenning to GTA V

    there weren't 2 thousand people working on it... not in the sense of DEVS. For example rockstar games has never had more than 400 devs working on a game. When they say more than a thousand, they mean EVERYONE ... including TESTERS and voice actors. For example, witcher 3 had 900 or so voice actors. When gaming companies make public how big is a team, it's only the number of developers, testers and voice actors are not included. So those number don't mean much. It's just how rockstar roles... they like to look bigger than they are and claim everyone, including the testers and the voice actors.

    I have HIGHLY mixed feelings about this game. The storytelling is phenomenal, the overworld is bloody gorgeous, and the game seems to plan for a good deal of unique player choices. That said, it's extremely frustrating to take some guns with you when you get off your horse only for them to be randomly replaced at some point in the story mission, and Arthur feels like you're steering an aircraft carrier
