Weird off topic question but recently fell in love with Octopath traveler and saw your review it was great. But my question is what awards do you think it might win at this year's Goty awards And do you think it might be a contender for goty
Sadly a lot of gamers these days have very short attention spans. They've become accustomed to fast paced rush to the icon type of games where you need to be doing something every 3 seconds so when something like Red Dead 2 shows up that wants people to slow down and really immerse in the world they complain. Obviously at the same time the game itself isn't to everyone's tastes and some people just don't care for slower paced games but I think a lot more people would actually enjoy it if they just let themselves sink in and go with the slower feel the game is going for rather than just wishing it was like so many other games out there.
It surprises you that people complained? I lived for two decades plus some years and most of what I've seen is people complaining about ANYTHING. There's something new? you can be sure someone will complain about it, dontchu worry.
Me too, I haven’t finished cyberpunk but I started playing Red Dead again... I needed some quality to cleanse myself... red dead is leagues ahead of cyberpunk.
Yup, I bought it as a comforter after cyberpunk which I played 14h and deleted. The amount of detail and polish is astonishing. And I have always loved rockstars AI,those god damn NPCs :D
I like them both equally. I like getting into fist fights as Arthur and mostly robbing people and being a badass outlaw and a good person at times But as John i feel like an Anti hero who tries to do the right thing but he is conflicted about his past
I was watching some gameplay of it and my mum walked by and asked what movie I was watching! This game is so incredible in every way. This is what I think of when I hear Rockstar.
I got into a 30 minute fight with the law in Valentine. By the time it was over Arthur was caked in mud and blood and the town looked like a warzone . Corpses everywhere, buildings charred and blackend, and debris everywhere from the fight. It was fantastic!

Twisted Films not hating just saying.. I disagree.. it is very boring in my opinion and the graphics look good but have many glitches that are so noticeable it’s unplayable for me (like I said for me I get most don’t care) it’s just not at all as much of a revolutionary game as red dead 1 or gta5

Other industry officials have all agreed to this: Rockstar has yet again raised the bar for open world games. Even Breath of the Wild can't compare in terms of all the options you have of interacting with the environment.

this game make 95% of other games on the shelf seem shallow and lackluster, so well done in almost every aspect like I've never seen before, they even fixed the heavy controls

I’ve finished the game 100% three times and I literally bought a cowboy hat exactly like Arthur’s. I have never had a cooler airsoft session in my life. I even went out and bought two revolvers (airsoft, not real ones)
@@movielover3416 Yeah, GTA 5 actually had me worried for RDR2. It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was mediocre. 4 was ok, I liked the story but the rest boring. I think kids underestimate how legendary titles like GTA VC and GTA SA were. They were game changers. Like this one.

Literally every game I have tried to play since finishing Red Dead 2 has been so underwhelming. I have tried to move on from it but after only an hour of playing anything else I end up frustrated and back to playing red dead. I've done everything you can do in the game and it's still more exciting than anything else I am currently playing.
I do feel RDR2 suffers as a game tho. Like, RDR2 feels like it was so focused on being detailed that it forgot it had to be a game. Like, you have missions that are extremely scripted and linear that they are less open than Call of Duty levels. So despite being an open world game, you often have very little freedom or agency in missions. You have gunplay that hasn't been improved since GTA4 in 2008. You have movement that is frustrating and annoying. Plus, many of the cool details and features never have cool gameplay applications. For example, in RDR2, many towns have Day/night cycles with towns being more empty on Sundays due to everyone going to church. But in RDR2, you can't ever plan missions or activities to take advantage of them. Like, this is something even Ubisoft had since 2012. It's hard to see RDR2 as a masterpiece or the next gen experience when it's basically a 2010 Rockstar game polished to look better but not play better. RDR2 is a movie that begrudgingly has to be a game.
Two character interaction details I noticed that I’ve never seen before in a video game. When you complete a mission for someone in your camp it doesn’t tell you to find them to complete the mission, but if they just happen to spot you in camp they actually walk to you to thank you. When you have the option to play a game with someone it doesn’t just drop into it but the characters will have a little conversation and then they will ask if you want to play. This happened when I played dominoes with the black girl in camp. It seemed so much more natural.
You get this and then you get a game like fallout 76. Such a contrast! After all these years Rockstar always manages to make awesome and fun games. Ever since the first time I played vice city Rockstar never lost their passion for making video games.
When i tried to rob the guy with the map, he tried to run away (as expected) but i lassoed him, tied him up, took the map, and threw him off the cliff 🙃
I was just riding by there, saw a skunk, went to kill it to try for a perfect pelt, shot it and he went, "Hey, no need for that, pard!" He ran off and dropped the map on top of the rock. :D
Finished game but there are still three speparate endings to play for. My first playthru I got to the top of a mountain and some Spanish explorer offered to sdell me a map. All I wanted was his horse but I gave him the $$ for the map to make sure I got it then put two shotgun slugs thru his Gizzards as he started to ride off. Looted him to get my money back plus his stuff, tossed him off a cliff and rode my new horse for the rest of the game [[A Nokoma, Nokita-Nosomethin' or other of the Race class.]]
If this game aint game of the year. Idk what is. Spider man and god of war were amazing games this year. But no where near as Amazing as Red Dead 2 is . Im sorry this game just feels like a whole new experience
Just finished it.....man i dont think i cared for characters in a game as much as i did in RDR2. So bittersweet too, especially considering what happens in RDR 1

It's interesting that Breath of the Wild achieves the same feeling as Red Dead Redemption 2. Game worlds are now getting more responsive to both player, and non-player behaviors, getting us to think more about how we behave within them.
Was blown away with this game, and it’s hands down the best I’ve ever played. When I first got out of Chapter 1 and got into Chapter 2 in my first run, I saved it and called it a night. The second time I got on the game and started at Chapter 2 where the map was now open to roam, I played for 32 hours straight and only took breaks to use the bathroom, eat, and take a shower. By the time I was done with that 32 hour run, I did maybe 3 or 4 story missions and mostly explored and after I slept for about 10 hours, and then woke up, I got right back on it. I’m ashamed to admit that, but that’s how blown away I was with this game.
Why does everyone feel the need to arbitrarily compare one game to another? Am I the only one who lives in a world where many good games can exist? Am I crazy in thinking that a game being great doesn't cancel out another ones merits?
You're not alone, I think games gets too overshadowed sometimes because of it, for example Xenoblade 1 is different to Xenoblade 2 in gameplay and people sometimes see the first one as superior while the second only borrows a few things from Xenoblade 1, I can enjoy both games as their own thing without comparing it to eachother, that's how my time playing those two are more enjoyable if i don't think about it
I'm 51 YO now and I am a TRUE Gamer. My first gaming system was the commodore 64 at 10YO. I can say with a life time of gaming behind me that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the greatest game I've ever played. The only game that is super close to it, is The Witcher 3
I laughed at that. He does not like the slowness of X2, but does like it here. Funny enough, many don't like the slowness of RDR2 and its gameplay. This game is a case of too much overhyping. Not saying the game isn't good, just in case I get the rabbid fans, but won't mean everyone will like it.
Iv played the first one but not this one. Your review reminds me of what it was like for me to play Skyrim for the first time, there was just so much to do so many quests & side quests. I only have a Switch though no PS4, so I have a real dilemma. To buy a PS4 or Not?
You should there are so many great games on the ps4 like god of war, Uncharted, Horizon zero Dawn and so much more also with the psvr you'll have so much to choose from
You know, RDR2 does kind of feel like The Witcher 3 with cowboys in places, although as a whole, RDR2 is so so much more. EVERY time i gather herbs it reminds me of The Witcher 3.
finally some one on youtube who don't complains about how long it takes to loot a body or always having to re equip your big guns getting off your horse. but instead showing off the sheer power of how much this game had to pac in for you to do in single player and we don't even know how the online gonna be yet thank you my good man thank you
pty80 they're legitimate complaints to people though. It's a cool touch if you're into that a sense of "realism" but not everyone is. Some people just want to see the story through not go through all the tiny details they had to add in.
@@Fencer_Nowa I agree, "objective criticism" does not exist, because games are art, and art isn't mathematics and can therefore not be proven or objectified. In my opinion, this game and many other modern games have way too many animations, slowing the gameplay down too much. I don't need to see my character pick something up slowly, or realistically looting someones body, sure it is impressive, but in the ned it is just frustrating and slows the game down too much. All these little animations add up, into a slow, badly paced and frustrating experience for me. The fact that you can't walk at camp or in some buildings is also a stupid decision, in my opinion obviously. RDR 2 could have been a masterpiece, but too many stupid decisions, too slow pacing and a mediocre story ensured it didn't happen.

i fell in love when i went hunting for the first time, tracking a deer to getting a perfect shot but before i could shoot i hear something to my left and i see a huge bear 10 meters of me. i felt legit fear. I died

I'm so happy to find another person that adores Octopath, it's so great when you find people that have diverse tastes in games, like I assume you enjoy Nintendo games but you also enjoy these kinda games too! I'm getting RDR2 on my PS4 pro since it looks incredibly fun, reminds me of Zelda in terms of the exploration aspect, too :)
Love this review! I also had Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time on the top of my list before playing this. Not only did RDR2 do the impossible by beating BOTW, but RDR2 annihilated Zelda. I don’t think this game will be topped, unless BOTW 2 or RDR3 can prove me wrong

I thought Read Dead Redemption 2 was going to be pretty good, but it was amazing, one of the best videogames ever made on power with BReath of the Wild.

At 13:44 and onwards could have been an easy path for you but you made it harder for yourself. There was a closer trapper to you than the one near Strawberry. It's the one closer to Emerald ranch, it's north of the ranch plus there's a Fence shop where you can sell your gold bars. Could of saved you 40 minutes of gameplay. But that's the magic of this game.
What I like the most about the Red Dead Redemption is. Most of other games sucks when they make a second game but Red Dead Redemption just did something incredible they made us love their new character which was Arthur Morgan for a lot of reasons one of them is the way he talks the way he walks the way he interacts with people the things he says how manly he is and how faithful and how loyal and the way he helps everyone at the end and what I like the most is that he is a good bad man.
I've waited 8 years for this game, and I'm quite confident in calling it The greatest game ever made and I think it will hold that title until Red Dead Redemption 3.
Hmmmmm. I mean, it depends a lot on your opinion. I like xenoblade chronicles 2 a lot because of how far it takes the jrpg mechanics, but seeing if from a realistic point of view, yes, this is the more realistic game ever made. Probably cyberpunk will be as good tho
I was super bored at first. I kept closing the app but i would always re open it. Something about the game just kept pulling me back. I've gotten out of those boring bits and, I've got to say, this game is the best thing since sliced bread
I tried to do the story missions but I often get sided tracked by random strangers I also found a hanging body in the swamp area near saint denis so I cut it down then I got swarmed by zombies that came out of thin air and killed me
That shotgun animation where you hold it in your left hand when you grab your pistol with your right hand is taken from another Rockstar game, Max Payne 3 :)

Funniest aspect of this near perfect game are all the people, uselessly trying to put it down at every chance. And every point rasied to prove its bad only falls flat on the face of the person dense enough to say its a lame game. 😂
the only real faults i've experienced with the game is lack of freedom in missions and the broken economy. i want to earn my money and have to struggle, not make 150 dollars every mission. i think a difficulty slider with harder difficulties having a more unforgiving economy would have been a wise decision, but that doesn't stop it from being my favorite game of all time.
I guess your brother is a young generation gamer. I definitely tried to convince my little brother to play it but nope, all he plays is garbage PUBG, LOL and different sheitty MMO. Young generation of gamers are the worst and definitely they're ruining videogames. RDR 2 is my all time fav game and I'll always play only third person action adventure games.

Right when this game came out I got injured and had to take 2 monhts medical leave from work. Needless to say,I had a lot of free time. It was summer and I had no idea what to do with my time. So I bought myself a ps4 and rdd2. What followed was an insane amount of playing. I would wake up,eat breakfast and start playing. I would play for 12,13 sometimes 15 hours straight. I've never expirnced anything like it before. No doubt,the best game I ever played. I was not a gamer before that and when my feet got better I went back to work,sold my ps4 and never played a video game seriously since than.

BOTW is not over rated at all, its an extremely well balanced game and creative game. RD2 basically walks you though each mission, 'Do this, stand there, press this button' all of the time, its hugely over scripted in large portions of the game. In short its a game for dumb babies. RDR franchise is the greatest game series I have ever seen. The work out of the characters, their evolution, the attention for detail as we all know is magnificent and the music. Also the references to the older RDR game that actually happened later in the story.
The game is too linear. how so? Because you have to railroad the storyline and every single mission. It's not like Rockstar games of old, where you can go mess with enemies stuff like their car and rig it with a bomb. Then during the gameplay when the guy is getting away, you just blow up his car. Red Dead 2 does not allow player creativity to complete missions, you are hand held through every mission to follow a direct line to the objective, if you try any other way but how Rockstar wants you to play their game, you fail the mission. Also the AI wanted system is broken and doesn't work well. If you don't believe me. Go watch Rockstar's Game Design is Outdated by NakeyJackey, he's hilarious and really loves Red Dead, but puts in good points about RD2.
Red Dead 2 has a fair few faults. But that's all it is. Without going into too much detail, story is good. Character development is good. Map and scenery are good. You have a lot of activities outside the story to keep yourself busy. You can kill, skin and eat an animal, craft ammunition and clothes, buy or steal a horse, fish, go bounty hunting, do stranger missions, play poker, drink at a saloon and don't forget just random events that happen during the game. But go on, tell me about how RDR2 is a bad game because it's too linear (which it isn't, the story is). What's so different between how the story works in RDR2 compared to God of War or Spiderman or pretty much any story based game? Just because they want the missions done a certain way doesn't discredit the full game

I went back and played RDR2 after Cyberpunk, and man...it’s just disrespectful that CDPR compared RDR2 to its flaming trash heap.

I’ve finished the game 100% three times and I literally bought a cowboy hat exactly like Arthur’s. I have never had a cooler airsoft session in my life. I even went out and bought two revolvers (airsoft, not real ones)

Literally every game I have tried to play since finishing Red Dead 2 has been so underwhelming. I have tried to move on from it but after only an hour of playing anything else I end up frustrated and back to playing red dead. I've done everything you can do in the game and it's still more exciting than anything else I am currently playing.

I do feel RDR2 suffers as a game tho. Like, RDR2 feels like it was so focused on being detailed that it forgot it had to be a game.
Like, you have missions that are extremely scripted and linear that they are less open than Call of Duty levels. So despite being an open world game, you often have very little freedom or agency in missions. You have gunplay that hasn't been improved since GTA4 in 2008. You have movement that is frustrating and annoying.
Plus, many of the cool details and features never have cool gameplay applications. For example, in RDR2, many towns have Day/night cycles with towns being more empty on Sundays due to everyone going to church. But in RDR2, you can't ever plan missions or activities to take advantage of them. Like, this is something even Ubisoft had since 2012. It's hard to see RDR2 as a masterpiece or the next gen experience when it's basically a 2010 Rockstar game polished to look better but not play better.
RDR2 is a movie that begrudgingly has to be a game.

Two character interaction details I noticed that I’ve never seen before in a video game. When you complete a mission for someone in your camp it doesn’t tell you to find them to complete the mission, but if they just happen to spot you in camp they actually walk to you to thank you.
When you have the option to play a game with someone it doesn’t just drop into it but the characters will have a little conversation and then they will ask if you want to play. This happened when I played dominoes with the black girl in camp. It seemed so much more natural.

I was just riding by there, saw a skunk, went to kill it to try for a perfect pelt, shot it and he went, "Hey, no need for that, pard!" He ran off and dropped the map on top of the rock. :D

Finished game but there are still three speparate endings to play for. My first playthru I got to the top of a mountain and some Spanish explorer offered to sdell me a map. All I wanted was his horse but I gave him the $$ for the map to make sure I got it then put two shotgun slugs thru his Gizzards as he started to ride off. Looted him to get my money back plus his stuff, tossed him off a cliff and rode my new horse for the rest of the game [[A Nokoma, Nokita-Nosomethin' or other of the Race class.]]
After finishing chapter 6..... It became Red Dead Depression for me.
If this game aint game of the year. Idk what is. Spider man and god of war were amazing games this year. But no where near as Amazing as Red Dead 2 is . Im sorry this game just feels like a whole new experience

It's interesting that Breath of the Wild achieves the same feeling as Red Dead Redemption 2. Game worlds are now getting more responsive to both player, and non-player behaviors, getting us to think more about how we behave within them.
It's open world gaming with a focus on emergent gameplay.
I expected insane game but get a game of all time! Rockstar did it again!
Was blown away with this game, and it’s hands down the best I’ve ever played. When I first got out of Chapter 1 and got into Chapter 2 in my first run, I saved it and called it a night. The second time I got on the game and started at Chapter 2 where the map was now open to roam, I played for 32 hours straight and only took breaks to use the bathroom, eat, and take a shower. By the time I was done with that 32 hour run, I did maybe 3 or 4 story missions and mostly explored and after I slept for about 10 hours, and then woke up, I got right back on it. I’m ashamed to admit that, but that’s how blown away I was with this game.

Why does everyone feel the need to arbitrarily compare one game to another? Am I the only one who lives in a world where many good games can exist? Am I crazy in thinking that a game being great doesn't cancel out another ones merits?
You're not alone, I think games gets too overshadowed sometimes because of it, for example Xenoblade 1 is different to Xenoblade 2 in gameplay and people sometimes see the first one as superior while the second only borrows a few things from Xenoblade 1, I can enjoy both games as their own thing without comparing it to eachother, that's how my time playing those two are more enjoyable if i don't think about it

Xenoblade's slow is different from RDR2's slow though. RDR2 just doesn't give you the whole open world from the start, that's it.

In my opinion, this game and many other modern games have way too many animations, slowing the gameplay down too much. I don't need to see my character pick something up slowly, or realistically looting someones body, sure it is impressive, but in the ned it is just frustrating and slows the game down too much. All these little animations add up, into a slow, badly paced and frustrating experience for me. The fact that you can't walk at camp or in some buildings is also a stupid decision, in my opinion obviously. RDR 2 could have been a masterpiece, but too many stupid decisions, too slow pacing and a mediocre story ensured it didn't happen.

Love this review! I also had Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time on the top of my list before playing this. Not only did RDR2 do the impossible by beating BOTW, but RDR2 annihilated Zelda. I don’t think this game will be topped, unless BOTW 2 or RDR3 can prove me wrong

At 13:44 and onwards could have been an easy path for you but you made it harder for yourself. There was a closer trapper to you than the one near Strawberry. It's the one closer to Emerald ranch, it's north of the ranch plus there's a Fence shop where you can sell your gold bars. Could of saved you 40 minutes of gameplay. But that's the magic of this game.
What I like the most about the Red Dead Redemption is. Most of other games sucks when they make a second game but Red Dead Redemption just did something incredible they made us love their new character which was Arthur Morgan for a lot of reasons one of them is the way he talks the way he walks the way he interacts with people the things he says how manly he is and how faithful and how loyal and the way he helps everyone at the end and what I like the most is that he is a good bad man.

Hmmmmm. I mean, it depends a lot on your opinion. I like xenoblade chronicles 2 a lot because of how far it takes the jrpg mechanics, but seeing if from a realistic point of view, yes, this is the more realistic game ever made. Probably cyberpunk will be as good tho

I tried to do the story missions but I often get sided tracked by random strangers I also found a hanging body in the swamp area near saint denis so I cut it down then I got swarmed by zombies that came out of thin air and killed me

the only real faults i've experienced with the game is lack of freedom in missions and the broken economy. i want to earn my money and have to struggle, not make 150 dollars every mission. i think a difficulty slider with harder difficulties having a more unforgiving economy would have been a wise decision, but that doesn't stop it from being my favorite game of all time.

I hope you enjoyed that time! Dude, I played 11 HOURS in one session. This game is frickin amazing. I played it for 30 hours before I got to chapter 3.

This game is great.
Right when this game came out I got injured and had to take 2 monhts medical leave from work. Needless to say,I had a lot of free time. It was summer and I had no idea what to do with my time. So I bought myself a ps4 and rdd2. What followed was an insane amount of playing. I would wake up,eat breakfast and start playing. I would play for 12,13 sometimes 15 hours straight. I've never expirnced anything like it before. No doubt,the best game I ever played. I was not a gamer before that and when my feet got better I went back to work,sold my ps4 and never played a video game seriously since than.
It’s in no way shape or form better than Zelda and I enjoyed both games.
why do people think BOTW is better than this? It's not even a comparison lol, and I say that as a massive fan of BOTW. It's massively overrated tho.
@@Chazza534 Yeah respectfully disagree. Red Dead 2 brought nothing new to the table really apart from amazing graphics. BOTW is not over rated at all, its an extremely well balanced game and creative game.
RD2 basically walks you though each mission, 'Do this, stand there, press this button' all of the time, its hugely over scripted in large portions of the game.
In short its a game for dumb babies.

Karlos how does Red Dead 2 bring nothing new to the table? it has the wanted system, fighting system, and the story. the story and the characters are the best part of the game. its not all about gameplay, only nintendo fanboys say that.

Go here, do that, collect this, but don't ever deviate from the path that rockstar wants you to take in the mission, or you will fail....Yawn.....Don't get me wrong It's a fantastic game and stunning in many ways. It just has little imagination when it comes to gameplay. Just look how limiting the online is.

Watching this after Cyberpunk review. Damn...
RDR franchise is the greatest game series I have ever seen. The work out of the characters, their evolution, the attention for detail as we all know is magnificent and the music.
Also the references to the older RDR game that actually happened later in the story.
The game is too linear. how so? Because you have to railroad the storyline and every single mission. It's not like Rockstar games of old, where you can go mess with enemies stuff like their car and rig it with a bomb. Then during the gameplay when the guy is getting away, you just blow up his car.
Red Dead 2 does not allow player creativity to complete missions, you are hand held through every mission to follow a direct line to the objective, if you try any other way but how Rockstar wants you to play their game, you fail the mission.
Also the AI wanted system is broken and doesn't work well. If you don't believe me. Go watch Rockstar's Game Design is Outdated by NakeyJackey, he's hilarious and really loves Red Dead, but puts in good points about RD2.

Red Dead 2 has a fair few faults. But that's all it is. Without going into too much detail, story is good. Character development is good. Map and scenery are good. You have a lot of activities outside the story to keep yourself busy. You can kill, skin and eat an animal, craft ammunition and clothes, buy or steal a horse, fish, go bounty hunting, do stranger missions, play poker, drink at a saloon and don't forget just random events that happen during the game. But go on, tell me about how RDR2 is a bad game because it's too linear (which it isn't, the story is). What's so different between how the story works in RDR2 compared to God of War or Spiderman or pretty much any story based game? Just because they want the missions done a certain way doesn't discredit the full game
