I want proof of the lies she is telling. They simply want to force people out to spend money on petrol and shops. Really helpful when people are doing it tough .. add more costs!
I dont think this has anything to do with the Govt wanting people to spend more. They just want govt employees to show up at work every day like the large majority of other working Kiwi's. When it comes to govt departments and its services, most Kiwis want better value for money and more accountability. There is better value for money and much more accountability when all Govt employees are at work than when many are not at work, quite simple really.
Do you have peer reviewed research to back this up, have seen plenty of studies showing most are more productive and work more uninterrupted hours when WFH. It lowers roading costs and emissions, as well as office rents for organisations.
All these years of Govt Departments downsizing their office footprint, expecting the employee to pick up the tab for power, heating, internet etc, then the CEO of New Zealand and his offsider want everyone to rush back into the office - to buy coffee? How many public servants are there, compared to desk availability in offices? I'm hearing that hot desking and being packed in like sardines are on the menu. I wonder what cold and flu season next year will look like when all the Govt workers will be sitting on each others laps, just to get the job 'done'. This announcement sounds like smoke and mirrors to cover up a deeper problem.
Get back to work. Sitting in your underwear stuffing your face from the fridge isn't going to get this country moving. Turn up show up. Entitled laptop class disgrace. Cleaners, receptionists, shop workers have to turn up. Loser.
How many more public servants did Jacinda hire again? Yet, we have no increase in the performance of service. Most people realise that govt departments are never as effective and efficient as most businesses. Even less so when they can choose to work from home. It's time we ban all govt employees from working at home, period!! I want value for money from my tax $$ ...and I want better services. Go to work!!
tl;dr; Willis doesn't trust Govt staff to know when it's appropriate to work from the office. I wonder if this will come with unlimited sick leave as well? I really hope they track staff illnesses and the type of illnesses.
One wonders how much the commercial building owners will be rubbing their hands together with the news that occupancy rates (and therefore costs) will go up. How much is it per square meter these days? Over $600?

It's much more productive having the flexibility of working from home a few days a week minimum. Especially for parents of young children. To remove this sensible option is autocratic, just to force more people into the city to spend their hard earned cash. It's a very backward step. Wasting time travelling back and forth into the city, all the office chit chat. Get real Nicola, it's a bad bad idea.

As a public servant Im looking forward to actually using sick leave now after years of working from home if unwell - guess ill just be on sick leave instead. The Govt only sees the side of the argument they wish to and for every "fact" they speak there is a counter fact (aka: the truth).

This is a massive new reporting expectation. Plus the paperwork of setting up agreements. This coming when most agencies will have lost some HR staff due to baseline cuts.
Sounds like administrator Willis is pushing for more collective contracts across the public sector, standardizing conditions across the workforce. Hmmmm this doesn't along with their IEA philosophy of people being able to negotiate their own terms and conditions.
Public servants should have gone back to the office a long time ago - at least 2 years ago. Not possible for management to monitor performance, and parents do not have the right to work from home and look after kids at the same time. If they want to look after the kids, then quit your job
Really, private sector worker here. With a great team across the country, allowing the regions to inject city job incomes into the economy. These backward looking administrators are trying to re invent a world that a large part of world have moved on from. Most public sector collectives or IEA already include the hybrid working agreements. These administrators pretend HR in these sectors have no idea, which is not true
Covid also proved that a lot of people cant work efficiently from home. There are a lot of people who abused the privilege of working from home and basically took the piss. Its the employer who end up suffering from slack employees.
What is it to her? If companies want their staff to work from home then its up to them to do what they like and government has no say in it. This country is not a dictatorship, or is it?
